As I visited my family in Lancaster CA, we stopped into a cafe that I have driven by for many years and always had in mind to try, Phebie's Cafe. From the main road it may not be as inviting but once you are inside and see the quality of the food and experience the friendly staff, I can see why they have so many great reviews. The old style diner did not disappoint, they have a large menu, including an extensive breakfast menu. We ordered the Chorizo Delight, what a huge serving of eggs and chorizo with an ample serving of hash browns, you also have some flexibility of various options like home fries, biscuits and gravy or pancakes. The chorizo was good tasting, we also noticed that they offered a home made salsa, we asked for a taste, it was amazing. We also ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, the portion size was also huge, my brother loved the dish, it has a pile of gravy, sausage patty, hashbrowns and fruit bowl. The staff was extremely friendly and quick to check in. We would highly recommend this spot. read more

Cute little diner in a great location. First time trying Phebie's Cafe and oh my lord what an experience. Everything was cooked and prepared beautifully. Our waitress and cook was outstanding and very attentive to our needs. The food was so delicious and I enjoyed every bit of it, I even gave the chef a fist bump. The owner Martha is horrible I ordered a Ruben today 16.99 and it only had 2 thin slices of meat on it! This place is known for larger portions! When I spoke to the rude owner Martha she said we are not a deli and that's how it comes!! Last time I will go there, I have been a local for years and spend usually around 70 bucks eating there, and go usually 3 times a month, all she had to do is give me a respectable amount of pastrami! She gets excited every time we park outside & starts ranting about how nice everyone is and how cool the Coca Cola clock is. I went to Phebies Cafe for a quick meal. The atmosphere was pleasant but busy. The waitresses were running around getting food out and serving customers. I ordered the French Dip with BBQ sauce and fries. The Fries tasted as if they were cooked sat out then re-cooked. Which i never had an issue before. I explained my concern to Sue the Waitress who is awesome and she informed the cook/owner. The Cook/owner came over to my table and tried to minimize my complaint saying she cooked the food and it was fine. I informed her That I never had a complaint about the fries but today I did. The cook/owner refused to take responsibility for the complaint and did not want to take ownership of the problem, and instead dismissed my complaint as unimportant saying the fries are frozen then cooked. I am a regular customer here, but because of the cook/owners attitude towards my concern is will not be back. I wasn't looking for a refund or replacement just addressing my complaint about the stale fries. The owner or cook whoever she is needs a course in customer service and learn how to address complaints or issues when they arise. read more

I stopped here today after my sister had told me she was eating breakfast here. I was only going to say hi but I decided to grab a bite to eat and let me tell you, it was so delicious. This place is a little cafe and the vibe is very chill and homey. We were greeted right away and got seated right away as well. The coffee was good. FOOD: Deluxe Combo: The pancakes were cooked beautifully, nice and fluffy in the center with a crispy edge. Overall the cook on everything was great. My eggs were a little over what I wanted but still delicious! Biscuits and Gravy: The biscuit tastes like it is made in house and is very good. Maybe slightly more salt. First time here, Christmas Eve morning for breakfast with my son. OMG! We Were Not Disappointed!! My normal order of sm. slice Ham, Eggs over med., home fries, toast. Figured the normal Oval, 1/8" Ham 'steak', NOPE! What was served was a 1/2 Slice of 1/2" thick, juicy, full flavored, tender Ham Steak! Home Fries were well cooked, no hard Surprise bites! lol. Bell pepper and onion chunks that flavored nicely, but easy to see and pull out. I like the flavor of both, but not the bite. Something that I Always complain about when I order toast, is that I can never tell which side the toast is buttered or it there is any. Not here! Not only could you tell which was buttered, but the buttered side was against the other buttered side of the other piece. No greasy fingers! lol. Little things that make dining out more enjoyable. Unfortunately, I do have 1 complaint. I knew I wasn't going to be able to finish and definitely was going to take the rest home. As I was getting close to the end, I asked for a box, thinking I could continue to finish while waitress was getting the box. WRONG!! Waitress took my plate! I was still eating, when I asked, waitress reached down took my plate and walked away before I could say anything! lol Yes she brought it back eventually, but if I knew she was going to grab my plate, I would have had my hand on it! lol. Well, we finally decided to stop at the side of the road beat up looking diner. Driven past this place 1000 times. Have to say the food was excellent. Biscuits and gravy were on point. The 1 pound ham steak was amazing. Grilled to perfection. My only complaint was my home fries, the onions and bell peppers were undercooked. Very good omelettes, steak was delicious. I visited Phebie's Cafe for the 1st time. I was visiting the Lancaster area. Foremost ,I gave Phebie's Cafe 4 stars because of their cinnamon bun. It is delicious. It is home made and it is shareable ,perhaps 2-3 people. I will definitely return for the cinnamon bun and decaf coffee. For breakfast I ordered the corn beef hash with 2 eggs. I substituted the side for tomatoes for an additional charge. The orange juice is freshly squeezed. I ordered it with the biscuits and gravy. The gravy has an acquired taste. The biscuit was dry and was not fresh. They as well get a plus because they had orange marmalade and blackberry jam. They have salt & pepper , Tapatio, Tabasco/Chalula/ creamers , sugar accessible at the booth. They have booth style sitting. The staff was friendly. However you have to request your server for refills, napkins , etc. Areas of Growth : I had to return my egg because it was spoiled. However they brought me a new egg. The tomatoes were soggy and not fresh. I would suggest for the restaurant to have fresh vegetables daily for the customers since their is added charge.
