We tried out Plaza Borinquen for the first time and w're not disappointed. The restaurant is small, but cozy and has a very inviting atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive. We started with a beef & cheese empanada each, which was flavors and well prepared. For my entree, I ordered the Plato tipico, which came with some roasted pork, rice with pigeon peas, and yucca. I came here on a Friday at 11:30 AM and it was empty except for me. I ordered a Media Noche and yuca fries. The staff were very nice and the restaurant was very clean. The table did not have any salt/pepper/napkins. My food arrived a bit after 20 minutes and I really liked the presentation. The yuca fries had great flavor and works very well with the dipping sauce. The only improvement that I could think of is that I would've preferred the fries to be a bit crispier. The sandwich tasted great too. The bread stood out for me because I like how thin it was and how its sweetness helps balance out the rest of the salty ingredients. The sandwich was moist inside but the bread stayed crispy. I was happy with the portion sizes for both of my orders. This is a cool place to eat and it currently feels like a hidden gem. I was in the Lancaster area on business and came across this spot on Yelp. What an amazing find. The food was absolutely delicious and you can really taste the love and care that goes into every dish. It honestly felt like I was eating at a good friend's table. The staff were obviously very friendly. A very complete menu with many traditional selections to choose from. I tried the bistec encebollado. It came with rice and beans (habichuelas) and plantain. Been a fan since they had their downtown Lancaster location so I'm happy to see them back. Food is still delicious but now they have better parking. Decor is good and totally has a vibe. Honestly, once you come in to the restaurant it doesn't match the outside. It feels inviting and cozy. I totally dig it. I had the plato tipico and everything about it was seasoned well and each item has its own flavor. They did blend into each other and give one note. Pork was tender and sabroso. Rice was on point not gummy or broken and the yuca was soft and had that amazing mojo on it. Perfect for the pork. My only issue would be that my plato needed aguacate. DELICIOUS everything they serve here is super yummy!! The first time I came here they were understaffed and it led to the food taking a but longer. We ordered rice, beans, chicken chicharrón, meat empanadas, pionono, sorullos, beef steak with onions, a drink that the name is morí soñando (died dreaming), coconut flan and three milks cake. The rice, beans, chicken chicharrón, meat empanadas, pionono and the drink all very good. The coconut flan and three milks cake were delicious. I give them 4 stars because the beef steak with onions was tough and I didn't like the flavor and the sorullos didn't taste good either. Maybe if they put the beef steak in a pressure cooker to boil with garlic, salt, onion and long-leaf cilantro, let it soften for a while in the pressure cooker, maybe that way it will be soft. Then, with this broth, they cook the beef steak on the grill with more onions, so that the beef steak would be tender and will be the show. The place had a great ambiance and there were some very nice mini torches on the tables. Everything was very cozy and familiar. Eramos un party de 8 personas. Baños limpio. Luego con ese caldo, cocinan el beef steak a la plancha con mas cebollas pues así el Beef steak quedaría blandito y de show.
