A local Cuban spot near where we live! We have been coming to this place in the last few months, first time we tried their sandwiches, Cuban sandwich and the Media Noche, both were really tasty. The staff here at the counter are super nice and helpful. The same person helped us both visits. First time, she helped us, even though she had laryngitis and could hardly speak. This last time she was really helpful too. This visit, I tried the lechon platter or roast pork platter. The pork was cooked really well and had some marinated onions and some raw onions. I was initially put off by the raw onions, as I've had this dish before, but they complimented the dish. Kudos to the chef. First time I had lechon plate was at the Columbia restaurant in Ybor city, that was amazing. This wasn't that, but it totally made me happy that night. Delicious and flavorful. The wife got a Cuban sandwich that was made with pastrami and some other things, different than the usual Cuban sandwich and very nice. We will continue to come back again and again! read more

Think plátanos, black beans and white rice, sandwiches and that warm welcome you feel when you go to a Cuban home. It is a tiny hole-in-the-wall near the post office and a well known sushi bar. Been by twice now, once for lunch and now for dinner. Lunch was PACKED with a long line so we left but made it back for dinner. Still a line but not as crazy. Let me start with saying, Libby was busting ass, get her some help! Cashier, running the food most of the time, and cleaning up is too much. Regardless, of the stress she kept cool and got it all done. On to the food... I see why there is a line. The GuavaQ pork plate was flavorful, and even the rice was made to perfection which is typical not a call out. The jerk sandwich was good, but a little dry. Did not expect anything amazing since jerk is a traditional Jamaican dish but wanted to give it a try. Other notes...their menu needs some updating. No alcohol yet and no croquettes. Well wasn't sure what to expect. Not a lot of room to sit inside or out. The girls working there were friendly enough but slow. They would make a coffee order while people were waiting. I had a large Cafecito hot with 1 sugar. But was it hot burned the roof of my mouth. When it finally cooled down, it was quite good. I had the Jamon omelettle and date it all. Cafecito is one of our favorite spots in Calabasas. The food is always excellent! I love the pressed sandwiches, especially the Cubano, La Costa, Chimichurri and Pollo Chipotle. The plates are so good too. My family and I have tried most of them and everything is packed with flavor. The breakfast food is also a sneaky great find and definitely worth trying. But the coffee is where it's at. This is a Cuban spot and they absolutely crush it with the coffee. Hot or iced, you really can't go wrong. Skip the mass market coffee and get the good stuff! The only downside is parking can be a little sparse during peak times since the lot is small, but it's definitely worth it. Highly recommend Cafecito! read more

This place is always busy, it seems! Small seating area inside (5 tables for 4 and a couple counter-type spots) and about 6 tables outside on the covered sidewalk area. Nice music playing inside and decent AC considering the door was open and it was super hot outside. You get in the long line to order and then someone will bring your food to you; order everything you want at once so you don't have to queue up again. On a Friday evening, Libby was pretty much working alone. She was taking orders, running food, making coffees, and bussing tables. Girl needed some help but did her very best. Was confused by the online menu, as it showed items they don't have at this location (like cocktails and croquettes); apparently byob is acceptable, though. Good to know for next time =) We ordered the Jerk Chicken Sandwich ($13.29) and the GuavaQ Pork Platillo ($16.99). Both were good; the plate was better. The chicken sandwich was a bit dry and lacking in some of the strong jerk flavors I was hoping for. The plate was huge and full of good flavors from the sauce in the pork and the beans. Some of the pork pieces were odd; I would go with the chicken next time. Great value for the price and nice flavors. The breakfast items (served all day) looked really good, too. I would recommend parking on the street (on Park Granada, not Park Sorrento) and walking a little; the lot here is always packed and always crazy. read more

Staying near the Calabasas Commons for the weekend I walked by several eateries but this one was different. Cafecito had a variety of options, including several vegetarian dishes. The restaurant had regulars the staff recognized or knew by name. It was my first time visiting and they treated me with a warm welcome. We loved this restaurant, it's our second time coming here and the Cuban authentic food never disappoints. Service was excellent, the food was excellent. We had their Milanesa sandwich and their Cuban pork plate with fried bananas, black beans, and white rice. I also had a Cafecito with milk and sugar, it was served in a small tiny cup because it's basically a shot of espresso. I love their authentic art on the walls featuring one of Cuba's best Catalogs, Carteles, which was known for featuring beautiful Cuban cultural art from the early 1919 to about 1960. The cortado was incredible. Not overly sweet or bitter, just right. Staff seemed friendly as well. My only knock would be the tres leches pancakes, they were honestly flavorless and kind of chewy. The cubanismo was good but I felt like it would benefit from more chorizo and tots. Honestly though the sandwiches looked amazing. Definitely will be trying those next time I'm back. read more

Either way you order it you will love it. Impossible sandwich is a must for my vegan brother and for the rest of us, we opted for some tres leches pancakes! They were pretty epic! Delicious fluffy and not overwhelming with the sweet touch tres leches usually brings. They were topped with delicious strawberries and blueberries! That was a shared treat. My main dish was the chilaquiles... let me tell you, the flavors all meshed together really smoothly! Black beans, pico de gallo, garlic sauce, ropa Vieja, queso fresco and crunchy tortillas in a decadent sauce was devine! The food and coffee here is amazing. The portions are large and the prices are very reasonable for the amount of food recieved. This was my third time here and I had the 'El Dorado' - Sea Bass, which was fantastic. I live about 30 minutes away (...depending on 101 traffic....) and the food is easily worth the trip. Cafecito offers a very original take on a Cuban-Chicago style restaurant with a dash of California style. My wife had the Milenasa pressed sandwich which was made to perfection. Be aware of the cooler with the assorted pieces of dessert... it gets me everytime... I tried the Tres Leches and ended up eating the whole thing.. During our visit, there was a customer that came in with a 'to-go' order that she had placed and wasn't happy with it. She stormed in and interrupted two guests that were in the middle of placing an order at the counter. The manager stayed professional and kindly asked her to lower her voice and that he would address her once the couple finished placing their order. Once the couple left, the angry customer (gen z/young adult) started berating him about the meal and lack of customer service. The manager stayed calm and collective offered her a full refund as well as a re-cooked meal that she ordered earlier. However, this wasn't enough for her, she wanted blood. The manager kept composure, realized he was in a lose-lose situation, and calmly told her she needed to leave, which she complied. The manager was being rage baited and he handled it like a pro! This is a small 'mom and pop' shop pushing to make it in the tough climate of Calabasas. They are unique and treasure quality. Absolutely recommend this place, and based on seeing how much traffic it had think a lot of people love this place. Very authentic Cuban with some regional adaptations. We had the ropa vieja and the ropa vieja sandwich, and they were very good. The coffee was strong. I would have put a bit more sugar to give it the finishing Cuban touch. A rare 5 star review for me as I only give it for establishments that are truly exceptional across the board and deliver an impressive experience. Cafecito serves up outstanding Cuban comfort food and drinks in a laid back and immersive environment. Tried the lechon plate, which was succulent and perfectly caramelized giving the marbled pork a well balanced umami taste. The mojo sauce was just right without overpowering the toasty pork. The Chivito sandwich may be one of the most satisfying pressed sandwich I've ever had. The light bread was perfectly pressed to a nice crunch, which was the ideal pairing for the quad stuffing of steak, ham, bacon and fried egg. Once you take a bite you just want to keep going and replicate the experience over and over again. Enjoyed a nice iced cafe leche, which is my favorite iced coffee. Last but not least is the super reasonably priced menu. Vast majority of dishes were under $20! I can't wait to return to Cafecito to try their other selections. read more

Some girlfriends and I stopped by here for a late lunch today and wow, what a great little spot! Cafecito is tucked away in a little shopping center. Based on the name, you might think it's merely a coffee shop but they have incredible food. I didn't get to try any coffee but saw plenty of customers order coffee so I'm thinking it's as good as the food. You order at the counter and your food is brought out to you to your table. I asked for a recommendation and the pollo chimichurri plate was suggested. The entree came with rice, black beans, and plantains. My friends got ropa vieja and tilapia criolla. Both of these things plates came with the same sides as mine. So while the food was delicious we were also impressed with the helpful and friendly service. Everyone who worked there seemed happy to be there and so kind! It was a nice surprise that our random pick for lunch turned out to be such a phenomenal place! read more

This place makes me dream of going to Cuba to experience the rich culture and taste all the great flavors of their food. Ambiance: Quaint cafe with vibrant atmosphere. We've been sitting inside because ourside its been a bit hot but it'll be nice once the weather cools. Seating: order first then seat yourself. Service: Excellent. Always excellent. Since we've been coming here they have been so welcoming. We love it here. Baby Tip: They were able to accommodate our stroller because it's small but we make it work and we're grateful. Bring a carrier too so you can eat if your little one won't stay still in the stroller. My baby girl was under 6 months so she likes to be a part of things when we eat ... Nice little hole in the wall we stopped by on our way up to Ventura to escape the heat. It wasn't too crowded and ordering was simple, just order at the front and take a seat and food was brought to us. Gf ordered the Ropa con papa and I got the Abuelita and both were yummy! The cut up churros on the small pancake was nice and filling and balanced well with the cortadito I got! A great breakfast stop along the way.
