My family and I don't usually write restaurant reviews, but Hacienda Tapatio absolutely deserves one. The food was authentic, flavorful, and easily some of the best Mexican food we've had in a long time. But the real reason I came back just three days later was Oscar. From the moment we sat down, Oscar made us feel genuinely welcome. He listened, paid attention, and somehow picked up on exactly what we liked without us having to explain much. My mom, brother, sister, and I are pretty particular about spicy food. We never asked for anything special, but Oscar came back from the kitchen with a full assortment of salsas, pickled jalapeños, carrots, and different levels of heat for us to try. It turned into its own little tasting experience, and honestly, that alone won us over. He also helped guide us through the menu and made sure everything matched our tastes. The food did not disappoint. It was fresh, full of flavor, and felt genuinely authentic. In the Calabasas area, that is not always easy to find. The experience stayed with me, so 3 days later I brought my wife back. I was lucky enough to see Oscar again, and somehow he remembered me, what I liked, and even the spicy tasting plate from our first visit. That kind of care is rare. We also got to meet Oscar's wife, Yadira, who was just as warm and kind. The whole experience felt personal, relaxed, and welcoming. Hacienda Tapatio is absolutely worth visiting for the food alone. But Oscar is the reason it became a place we'll keep going back to. Great food. Genuine hospitality. A true neighborhood gem. Parking lot is open. Plenty of space. Arrived 6pm , no reservations. No problem, got a table in a minute. The drink was OK. Watermelon something. Seafood tacos. One with fish, another with octopus. Very good. Rice and beans OK. Table side made guacamole ... was nice Three types of salsa with the chips. Good service. A bit far from chatsworth...but worth checking out at least once. I've been here a handful of times, and the ambiance is fun. My kids love the life-like animal statues at the entrance, and I like that it's kid-friendly. Plus, they have some happy hour specials (which they will do anywhere in the restaurant, no need to sit in the bar if you don't want to). However, while very kid-friendly, their vegetarian options are fairly limited, basically a cheese quesadilla or a tostada salad is what they have for non meat-eaters. The complimentary bean dip that comes with the chips and salsa is also made with meat (chorizo), which the server may or may not warn you about when they plop it onto the table. read more

The Sunday brunch with Mariachi ambience was happy and lively although we didn't have their brunch , the three Taco combinations were delicious. Delicious Mexican restaurant in Calabasas. The Birria dish amazing and hearty enough to split between two people or have enough for leftovers. I recommend the flour tortillas with them. Finally got around to see how the new management at Hacienda Tapatio is doing. To start their drinks are stiff. Tried the happy hour margarita and Cadillac margarita. No cutting corners here. The food is good and plentiful. Fajitas Tapatio came with steak, chicken and shrimp. I think the steak and chicken can use more seasoning/marinade. Burrito Tapatio with carnitas was tender and juicy. Tasted almost like lengua. Finally we tried the pozole, which was a little too light for me. Can use more seasoning. Service was very friendly and prompt. Updated decor and furniture also freshened up the restaurant. Overall a 3.5 star experience. read more

We had to ask other people. Food: 3 stars just ok with some dishes being better than others but the hot Buffett items were cold and unappetizing Variety: 1 star. The Buffett selection was very thin unlike other buffets in the area. Keeping offerings stocked: the desert station was empty and we were told they ran out of food. We were there at 11 am. Came here a few weeks ago with a party of five on a hot summer day trying to enjoy some cold beers and good Mexican food. That clearly failed us, the service was NOT good, they ran out of certain Mexican tap beers and the rest were warm cuz their fridge didn't work. Also, the AC didn't work in the middle of summer for a fairly new spot with lots of potential. Oh, not to mention the food was horrible. When's their last night with my husband who is Mexican and we love Mexican food. The place we loved the ambiance the service was excellent. I have to say though the chef needs to be changed Mexican food is full of spices and flavor in this unfortunately had none of that. We had tortilla soup which is my favorite It was literally tomato soup. We have the carne asada steak and it was all right but nothing to brag about. Shame because we really loved the place. I am currently sitting at my table at the restaurant, just finished eating, and couldn't wait to write this review. Everything was perfect. The customer service, the chips and salsa, the atmosphere, the super crisp Diet Coke, and my amazing dinner. We got the birria plate and the carne asada burrito. They were both so delicious and very large portions. We ended up taking half of our dishes home (probably because we ate 2 baskets of their fresh chips and salsa). We will definitely be coming back. We're new to the neighborhood and happened to drive by and decide to try this place and we're so happy we did! The service was amazing from start to finish. Owner personally came over to welcome us and walk us through the menu since they've just opened, which was such a nice touch. Everyone was incredibly sweet and accommodating. Ethan was our server and he was fantasticsuper sweet, attentive, and knowledgeable. He recommended the Pepino Picante, and WOW... SO good. Ethan absolutely nailed that drink. What a disappointing soft/grand opening. The renovation inside was nice but the food was terrible. My hubby and I ordered guacamole to go, mini flautas, and a chicken burrito. They didn't have 10 oz containers for the guacamole so it came in 2 small containers. It's tasted good but I'm not sure if I got the right size for the price I paid. The small amount of chips they provided were stale to boot. Then the chicken burrito was gross - old and burnt chicken cut in small pieces, did they use left over food from lunch to get rid of it? I also wish the burrito came with a side of rice and beans but it didn't because it was inside the burrito. The mini flautas came with a side of sour cream, green sauce, pico and lettuce. We won't be ordering flautas because there was cinnamon or some kind of sweet spice we did not care for. What a terrible opening to showcase their food. I want them to be good. Food is bland no flavor. The albondigas soup had one small piece of pasta toe, a few carrot rings and three large chunks of zucchini in a thin salty broth. Not good. Ordered chicken fajitas. Chicken was cut into thin strips hence very dry plus no flavor. Got my order wrong twice in same sitting. Wife ordered crispy taco. Looked like a taco shell from a box! Beans had a metallic taste like they had just opened a can of beans. Place was not busy yet they got both my wife and my order wrong. Worse was the food was bland and an offense to Mexican food. $16 for a forgettable margarita. Order came to $94 for bad service and worse food. I felt very ripped off. I just recently had my bridal shower here and OMG let me tell you how perfect it was, from the costumer service to their food! The new owner Oscar and Renato made sure my bridal shower was perfect! They kept coming around making sure myself and my guest were good and making sure we have evryhting. Their authentic Mexican food is delicious!!! NOW THIS IS REAL MEXICAN FOOD!!!! Unlike when it was La Paz they had more of an American pop in the oven food Mexican that's not real authentic food! At that point you are better off going to Taco Bell lol. I was so excited to try this place since it just opened near my house but it was so not impressive at all. The hard taco shell was more store bought than Taco Bell's and had zero flavor. The enchiladas were ok but nothing special and my horchata had ice filled to the top that I literally had 3 sips and was out. Wasn't horrible but wasn't really that good either. Wouldn't order again. Los agaves isn't much more expensive considering the prices here and it's wayyyy better. read more

I tried all El Tapatio restaurants and I was excited to try an actual restaurant. I came in a Friday night for dinner and what an amazing time I had. Mariachi arrived at 7, bonus. The restaurant is beautiful decor. Reminds me of the restaurants in Placita Olivera or actual Mexico. We started with chicken taquitos appetizer, bomb. The guacamole was perfectly seasoned, I didn't need to add lime or salt like other places. I had 3 raspberry martinis , no added syrups, they nailed it. I had tilapia dish with rice , with corn tortilla. My bf had cheese enchiladas, rice and beans, they came out amazing. The mariachi walks around and takes request.
