    Mofongo de Chuletas

Mofongos is a Puerto Rican staple in LA. It's one of the few restaurants in CA that seems relatively authentic. I recently visited about a month ago. The serving sizes are large, you definitely get 2 meals out of one. The pernil was delicious, moist & flavorful. The arroz con gandules is decent for a restaurant. I'm very picky though, but it's because I have high expectations. There's nothing like abuela's rice. The tostones are huge! Out of the appetizer platter, I enjoyed the pastelillos most. Service is a bit slow here, or at least the last time I came, and it wasn't that busy. Seems like they might be understaffed. Overall, I enjoy coming to this restaurant. It's definitely a great representation of our culture & the PR staples.

Haven't been in a while! Was incredibly surprised how delicious the food was. The service was great I was so invested in tasting everything that I didn't take one photo! Food ordered- Bacalaoitos - super crunchy Sorullos w/mayo ketchup - delish Avocado salad Arroz con habichuelas y pernil - flavorful Red Snapper in lemon butter over Mofongo- delicious Mofongos con carne - delicious Sopa de pollo - delicious!!!! We are DEFINITELY going back!

This is their dining table. I picked the PR flag but there's more than just the flag.

This is an amazing Puerto Rican hole in a wall spot!! I found it the other day and was able to try it yesterday before leaving NoHo. My wife is Puerto Rican so it hit home for her. We ordered the Pernil with Mofongo, pasteles de puerco and tripletas de pastrami. All of which was delicious!!! Will definitely back again when we're back in NoHo. I didn't catch my guy's name at the counter but he was very nice and gave us a little history and explained all the meals on the menu!!! definitely worth checking out!!!!

There aren't many Puerto Rican restaurants in the Bay Area, so I was happy to discover one 6 hours away from home in Southern California. I came across this restaurant on Yelp and I had to give it a try. My significant other, who is Puerto Rican, has been craving for authentic Spanish food reminiscent of his hometown in Massachusetts. All I can say is, FINALLY! This restaurant is located on a busy street and lacks a private parking lot, but we were fortunate to find street parking in front. As soon as we walked in, the decor took me back to the Spanish eateries in New York and Massachusetts. The host, who also served us, was incredibly friendly and attentive. We ordered mofongo with Pernil, chuletas fritas with arroz gandules, alcapurrias, and two coquitos. Everything on our table was delicious, authentic, and tasted just like the restaurants in his hometown. We can't wait to come back!

Cute place just off of Lankershim. Placed order on the phone for a Cubano sandwich lunch special and the Pollo Caribe Salad. When you call they try to send you to the online order page which is sponsored by chow now, which probably means prices are marked up. So I called and waited to speak to someone at the restaurant. Placed my order and she said it'd be about 10 minutes. It takes 10 mins to drive there so I got in the car. Parking was easy - there was parking out front. Don't think there's a parking lot but not sure. The place has a homey feel - has a gate door in front of the regular door. Wonder if this used to be a house? Went up to the counter and told the lady my name for the order. She said it would just be a few minutes, so I paid and waited. Got the food and she said to check it just in case. I like that, because so many times you take the food and its not until you get home that you notice something is missing. All was good so I drove home. Food was good - my cubano sandwich was yummy as was the fries. My hubby enjoyed the salad and shared some with me. There were plantains in the salad and the chicken was tender and flavorful. Overall a good lunch spot. My food was very filling!

Great little spot. Cozy and nicely decorated. My luncheon friend was born and raised in Puerto Rico, and as a regular, he says Mofongos is legit. With that declaration, and his guidance, we ordered the following: Pastelillos (4) - One of each, beef, Chicken, cheese, and pizza. These mini empanadas are so tasty and full of flavor. It's a must order dish. Asopao de Camarones - shrimp soup with rice & peas Pure comfort food Delicious, hearty, and packed with flavor. Mofongo de Pechuga Asada - Mofongo stuffed with chopped chicken breast. A signature dish of Mofongos and a Puerto Rican classic. Arroz con Gandules - pigeon pea rice. Everything was delicious. This is Puerto Rican food at its finest. The flavors were full and authentic. There are few PR spots in LA, and this might be the best one. The service was very friendly and helpful. Mofongos is definitely with a visit.

I am never disappointed coming here. Coming to this restaurant makes me miss the East coast and my family. When you're here they treat you like family. The food is so good. You really can't go wrong with what you get. I've been here multiple times and have gotten a few different things. Definitely check it out.

If I could give this place a million stars.... I would!! The food was so good that I didn't even stop to take pictures. 10/10 would order the pastries and the mofongo with the pork shoulder

Carne frita...so crisp and again flavorless

The service & ambience is great, the young lady that waited on us today was very attentive and we appreciate that. We ordered the sampler 'un poco de todo' and some bacalaitos. My alcapurria was not cooked all the way, the bacalaitos had no flavor or bacalao. We then added carne frita on the side...and again...no sazon or adobo. Absolutely no flavor and lil crisp pieces that had no meat. I was very disappointed. I'm Puerto Rican so I know what this food should taste like. Not sure if I'll ever go back. But to be fair, perhaps the cook was having an off day ‍ because nothing we ate was good!

Mofongo de Carne Guisada --- half eaten because I jumped in. Tasty.

We were celebrating my husband's fraternity anniversary and reaching 200k miles on our car and popped in not looking for anything spectacular but filling. This spot isn't too far from our home and we wanted to give it a try. It's unassuming and and set back from the street between less fancy establishments. All that being said, I wasn't expecting what I got --- well prepared, well seasoned food that knocked my socks off. We had the chicken soup to start. The chicken was freshly shredded and the soup was brimming with meat --- not watery. And start. We both had mofongo -- husband had fried pork and I had beef stew. I found the pork a little tough and less crispy than I like but that's the toss up of ordering fried pork. The stew was comforting and filled with everything you'd expect. The star -- as the name of the spot suggests -- is the mofongo. I could smell the taste before I put it in my mouth. Garlicky. Carby. Warm goodness. My picture was taken halfway through the meal because when he set the food down...it was on. I basically ate all of it. Recommend. I'll need to come again to be sure the mofongo hits every time: this def gave -- spot to bring friends to. The best of the area.

Un poco de todo-little bit of everything

We've been coming to Mofongos Puerto Rican Restaurant since 2003, right after we visited Puerto Rico and completely fell in love with the food, the culture, and the people. That trip made us lifelong fans of Puerto Rican cuisine, and Mofongos has always been one of those places that brings us right back to the island. It had been a minute since our last visit, but I'm happy to say the food absolutely did not disappoint and neither did the service. We reserved our table by the window, which made for a great, relaxed dining experience, and every dish we ordered was full of flavor and cooked just right. From the warm service to the comforting, authentic flavors, Mofongos continues to deliver after all these years. Highly recommend to anyone looking for real Puerto Rican food and a welcoming atmosphere.

I finally made it in and dined at the only Puerto Rican restaurant in Los Angeles. I've been getting so many recommendations to try Mofongos over the years and decided to come in because of a pop-up I am planning to attend this weekend from a chef who recently moved here from Portland. My cousin from Portland suggested I try the Puerto Rican pop-up in DTLA this weekend. I ordered the mofongo de pernil (crispy roasted pork shoulder on green plantains) and arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas) which are considered national dishes of Puerto Rico. I have always had in the back of my mind someone telling me that she didn't like the food in Puerto Rico because it was "bland." The dishes at Mofongos were not bland. They were comforting and flavorful -- I need every bit of comfort these days! I am now considering a trip to Puerto Rico to sightsee... and eat! The service was warm and friendly. I definitely felt welcomed and would not hesitate returning to try more dishes along with some of the appetizers and cocktails like the piña colada or coquito. Plenty of parking on the street in front of the restaurant.

After a long day of work, my girlfriend and I were driving around trying to figure out what our…read morestomachs were calling for when we passed this cool little outdoor spot called La Bamba. And of course, as soon as we saw the name, we immediately started singing La Bamba . That was literally what made the place catch our attention. My girlfriend is always quick to pull up Yelp before we commit to somewhere new, so she checked the reviews, saw they weren't too bad, and noticed they served Caribbean food. We turned around and decided, why not? The restaurant itself was a nice little spot. It wasn't overly crowded, but there were enough people there that it still had some energy. Our first impression, though, almost made this review never happen. When we walked in, we stood near the front trying to figure out whether someone was going to seat us or if we were supposed to seat ourselves. There was a woman working at the register who didn't acknowledge us, even when we tried getting her attention. It came across as pretty rude in the moment, and we genuinely considered just walking back out. Eventually, we decided to seat ourselves. That's when David, our waiter, came over and thankfully the service got much better from there. He was attentive, cool with us, and overall gave us a much better impression of the service than how things started. First came the chips and salsa. The chips were a little too hard for our preference, and the salsa itself was pretty bland. We originally wanted to try the ceviche as an appetizer, but after seeing that the price was getting pretty close to entrée territory, we decided to save that money and go straight for our meals. I ordered the La Bamba chimichanga with carne asada. I don't normally like beans inside my burritos, so I substituted double rice, along with cheese and sour cream, with guacamole and pico de gallo on the side. My girlfriend went for the Cuban sandwich, which she was really excited about because she had been craving one. Our food came out surprisingly fast probably within about 10 minutes. My chimichanga was... okay. That's probably the best way I can describe it. It had some flavor, it filled me up, and there wasn't anything specifically terrible about it. It just didn't give me anything that made me think, "I need to come back for this." At around $18, I also would've liked the plate to include some rice and beans on the side. My girlfriend wasn't too impressed with her Cuban sandwich either. She found it pretty dry and thought there was way too much meat compared with the thinner, juicier Cuban sandwiches she's used to having. But somehow, the thing we weren't expecting to care that much about ended up stealing the show: THE FRIES. I don't know exactly what seasoning they're using, but those fries were really good. And the garlic sauce they served with them was even better. We sat there trying to figure out what was in this sauce until one of the chefs happened to walk by. We finally asked him, and after all our investigating, it turned out to basically be garlic, mayo and ketchup. Simple? Absolutely. Did it work? 100%. That combination with those seasoned fries was probably our favorite food of the night. For drinks, I ordered my usual Blue Moon on draft. It was decent, although I've definitely had better. My girlfriend's fruity mocktail was actually the better drink between the two. It was refreshing, a good size, and had this sweet taste with a slightly bitter finish that we both liked. After everything, our bill came to about $73 with tax and tip. That's ultimately where the value started falling short for us. For what we ordered and the quality of the entrées, we both walked away feeling like we expected a little more for the money. That being said, this wasn't some horrible dinner. David was great with us, we liked the casual atmosphere, those fries and that garlic sauce definitely deserve their credit, and my girlfriend and I still had a good time together which is what brought us out in the first place. But if I'm judging La Bamba strictly on the food and experience we had that night, I can't say I'd personally recommend it based on this visit alone. Would I completely write it off? No. There are enough other things on that menu that I'd consider coming back, ordering something completely different, and seeing if round two changes my opinion. For this first visit, 3.5/5 feels fair.

Unfortunately, our experience was somewhat overshadowed by the way our waitress explained the pricing. We felt that the way it was presented was misleading and left us feeling deceived when we received the bill. I have no problem paying for a meal when the pricing is clearly explained. What bothered me was the way the information was communicated. Customers should be given an accurate and straightforward explanation of what is included with admission and what costs extra. The entertainment and food were both excellent, but the misleading explanation about the meal took away from what otherwise could have been a fantastic experience. I hope management addresses this because the restaurant has a lot to offer, and clear, honest communication about pricing would make a big difference
