Been here three times. First time I had the fried pork chop and pig ears. The pork chop is a good size and so crunchy. Second time I had to come back for the same thing. I love the lady who works here. She's so down it cracks me up. She'll tell you to order soup if it's cold so you can stay warm and tell you if you're thirsty let her know cuz she ain't serving water in this drought unless you speak up. She totally sounds like a loving mom/grandma to every patron at the restaurant. I've only ate here maybe 3-4 times but the food always reminds me of a yummy home cooked meal. It's like eating your grandma's cooking if you're Taiwanese. My favorites are the fried chicken steak rice, the pork chop rice, the vegetarian duo, and the Taiwanese meat tamale. This place has plenty of variety of taiwanese side dishes which you can serve at home with meals. Also they have sausage which is premade for you to purchase. I feel the flavor is a bit plain but maybe because i eat my food too salty. lol. read more

We came here just for the Stinky Tofu. Guess what? We ordered and then they kicked us out of the restaurant saying the stinky tofu smells up the restaurant so we needed to eat it outside. Really??!! Food was just mediocre. Got the pork chop noodle- which taste very similar to the equivalent one at Sin Bala. Their combination noodle wasn't very impressive either, way too bland. However, the reason why I'm giving this such a low rating is because the lady who took my order (also coincidentally the owner of the restaurant) was super rude. it is to my disappointment that my first review ever would be to this overly crammed and small cafe. upon first glance the prices seemed reasonable. they have lunch box sets [without drinks] ranging from 6.50 to 7.50 from veggie lunch box to short ribs. after a tedious long drive back from school, i headed over to try this place w/ my pops. i ordered the short ribs lunch box and chicken cold noodles. my total came out to be around 14 bucks. [not bad for two people i suppose] however when i got home i realized that the short rib portion was only 1/4 of the rice they had given me. in the lunch box set, it included a tea egg, a small piece of tofu, wayyy too much broccoli, 3-4 minuscule slices of beef short rib. and what made my day worse was that these short ribs were EXTREMELY TOUGH. after a few tries, i just spat the meat out. the chicken cold noodle was rather sickening. the sauce was a terrible fail. i mean for the price of $6.50, i expected a BIG O in my mouth. but yuck. there was no taste in the peanut sauce. annoyingly bland and oily. if i could give negative stars.. i would have done so. read more

I would drive over to Temple City's two cheaper and tastier taiwanese eateries over this one, but I did enjoy the lunch bento of smoked duck, egg, tofu, and veggies. The prices are reasonable for the bay area, but unfortunately, I expect better in LA. My ten dollars should stretch a lot longer than it did at this place. read more

It's not a bad place at all...I usually just order the bentos and get an easy meal over with. It's not that expensive but it's not all that cheap either. I've tried their beef noodle soup but I thought it was not all that great. This is just to rant about an experience I recently had with them. I ordered some food for take out and when I got home found that they completely botched my order. So I called them to let them know but to my surprise was given an earload of how I shouldn't have mumbled while I was ordering and that once I left the premise I was completely responsible for the food. Okay fair enough that I could have and probably should have checked my food before heading out but having them basically yell at me for the mistake seriously ticked me off. Our family want to eat at Sinbala, but there was a long line. We were so hungry so we went to Cozy Cafe. We walked in at 8.15 pm. The waitress told us that they close at 9. I got it so I ordered the food immediately by looking at the pictures. I ordered the grill pork chop and chicken bento box for my child. The waitress told me grill take too long. She said I should change to stew style instead. I was like if it is the same kind of meat just the cooking style is different, it should be okay since they are closing soon anyway. I ordered noodles for myself. The noodles came out real fast. My son was waiting, 10 minutes later, the lady brought the bento plate over, it has two combination. One is cow intestine that I don't even eat. The other combination is chicken thigh with so much bones. My son is looking at me why would I even order that kind of food that he doesn't like to eat. I Didn't order that. I asked them to make the grill pork chop and chicken breast again. I told them my son is not going to eat intestine. He only wants the Pork Chop. The other waitress told the chef to cook the food we want immediately. The waitress that serve me said can we put the grill pork chop in a to go box and along with the wrong one they gave me. They want me to pay for it and get out of the store before 9. I get it. What sucks is it only took them 8 minutes to bring the pork chop out. At that time it was 8.38 pm. At 8.43, she bring the check over asking me to pay for all three meals. As soon as my son finished the pork chop and the chicken at 8.45 pm. We are like let's get out of here. What a rip off place and bad service. Don't want to admit their mistakes and demand me to pay for something that I don't even order. I will never come here again. Cozy Cafe has really good simmered items and noodles. The place is very small, so I usually do take-out. My must-order item is the pan fried udon w/ either pork or seafood. Delicious food, fast service, conveniently located and very affordable. My favorites: 1. Soy milk (better than other local competitors), 2. Bento boxes of fatty pork, 3. So I decided to spend my Friday Lunch out .. a work week treat at this place. Brought along a few co-workers to try this place out. The selection of items are good. I had the beef noodle soup my friends had the veg noodle place, and the wonton noodle soup. The beef noodles had a subtle spice to it. The portion size is nice. It was just ok. I was hoping to be a little more wowwed with this place, in the hopes of it being a new kang kang for me, but i don't think that's going to happen. The seating inside is tight. It feels very homemade and it's really hot when the noodles get to you and I love it because I love steamy hot fresh food. I would probably only do take-out at this place if I ever go back.They are super rude! The waitress wanted us to order even before we sat down and kept rushing us. There weren't even any seats available. Then she rushed the bill to use when we weren't even done eating and was pretty much kicking us out of the place. I guess because it's a very small place to begin with so they have to get people to go in and out, but still, I wanted to just chill. I ordered the beef shank on the lunch menu and my friend ordered the Unagi. Both were very tasty but they come on a huge box that makes everything look very big, but then they skimped on the meat sauce with ground meat. There is only one tofu and one egg. I woulda expected maybe 2 pieces of tofu. There was of course more vegetable than anything else. It was bok choy and stir fried with lots of oil. Actually that's what makes it taste so good. The egg was delish! Too bad there wasn't more of that either. As far as the food, I would definitely order from here again. Did not enjoy this place at all. Order the grilled pork chop and chicken. The chop was about 3 mm thick and full of fat. The chicken was also full of fat, and usually I don't mind the skin and fat but this was excessive. Ordered the beef roll and unlike other beef rolls that have beef throughout, they only had a skinny piece of beef encompassed by lettuce and scallions. I was okay with this different version then I'm accustomed too but when I asked for the dipping sauce the lady with the glasses (not our server), yelled at us. She said she put plenty of sauce inside and anymore would be too much. A simple, "why don't you try it first to see if feel more sauce is needed..." would have sufficed. I also asked our server if she could make the seafood noodle soup spicy, again the lady with glasses jump down my throat from the back of the counter screaming, "if u want spicy noodle, u have to order (some other noodle dish that I don't recall the name). We don't make the seafood noodle spicy". Our server tried to be the mediator by suggesting we use the hot sauce condiment in the table. Again, a simple, "no, we can change the taste of our soup" would be the adequate response. Since we were the only table there, I thought the service could have been better too. After bein given tea and cups, we also asked for water. The reply was close to "since you want water, u don't need the tea", and our server snatched the tea and cups away. Simbala was also closed for some odd reason a lot of days this month (sorry, I could give more info if I remembered how to read Chinese). The menu is pretty straightforward Taiwanese with the lunch boxes (rice, pickled veggies, steamed broccoli, and fried tofu) and noodle soups being the cornerstones. I ordered the fried pork chop and my wife ordered the squid vermicelli. The food was a solid 3.5 stars. The restaurant was small but not overly crowded for 8 pm on a Saturday night. The service was fast, but they don't really fawn over you and you have to flag them down if you want anything. There's just something about watching a waitress pick her teeth in the dining room just before she brings you your food (even if you see her wash her hands) that doesn't sit quite right for me. read more

Food is good in general but don't order drinks here as I just tried the kiwi juice salty taste and really spoil the appetite.

I recommend their meatballs, dumplings, smoked chicken. I buy them frozen and it makes a super quick dinner for my family. I just didn't like the fact the their writing are all in chinese with the prices. read more
