Appetizer: The fried pickles were chewy and discolored as if they were old. Entree: The potatoes and chicken fried chicken had no flavor AT ALL and the broccoli had brown and beige spots.. Bread: The cornbread that cost $3.50 was EXTREMELY dry, looked over cooked and seemed old. The buns were actually fresh so that was a plus; the only plus with this meal. I know this is stupid to write a review based off a massive line of cars parked in the tow away zone, but it happens every night. Every. Goddamn. Night. A whole lane leading up to the intersection in a busy shopping center is congested with people waiting to pick up their food, making a two way lane reduce to a one and a half way lane. Sometimes these nincompoops even take up the entire lane and just park at the stop sign of the intersection. I don't get it. You guys have a massive parking lot that's never full. We got our drinks and the maple chicken fried bacon appetizer which is very good !!! Then our food came. I had the grilled cajun duo which was pretty good, but the sauce on top was pretty salty. Overview: The best time to see how good a restaurant is, is when they are about to close and how professional they are to you. I have gone 3 times in a 3 week period, and took the average of the scores. Here is what I can tell you. The Staff: Rushed us out, and clearly made it a point to know we were ruining their evening plans. The younger staff refilled our waters once in a 80 minute stay. The staff were inconsistent and obviously more worried about their closing duties than service. This place literally has 1 saving grace, and it is not that good either. The Good: 3 words. Chicken Fried Bacon. So good. Queso (with chili) Chicken and dumplings flavor, however if rushed is highly watery The Meatloaf. If you have nothing else to order, order the meatloaf it has a good developed flavor. Fried Green Tomatoes: A Must! The Bad: Do Not ever purchase fish from here. The cook is rushed, wrong, and frankly for the price you can get better. The Ugly: The looks from the staff when you come at 9:15 and they close at 10:00pm. Overall it's southern food, and like all good southern food it has some good fried things. Decent family chain restaurant that, in some ways, reminds me of the late Po-Folks. The menu starts off looking like "fried, fried, and more fried", but when you study it for a bit, there are plenty of options that aren't nutritionally challenged. Salads, grilled chicken and fish, as well as burgers and steaks are available. Everything we tried turned out great. We especially appreciated the avocado ranch dressing. Fair warning that the burgers are large and thick, and can easily be a meal for two with an appetizer. Prices are reasonable, and portions are on the generous side, so skip lunch and go here hangry. The orders not coming at same time, my son ordered medium rare steak and he received a shoe leather steak aka well done. Yes, they made more but not improving. Half of it medium rare and the other half is well done! How that even possible? Then the kid's meal supposed to come with ice cream but we never get it. I ordered basket of catfish. The breading such a blah and no taste. Okra just ok. My sister ordered chicken tortilla soup and barely has chicken on it. But it seemed the rest of the ordered came up ok. Though my friend that ordered chicken burger not quite like it too. I only visited Texas, if I ever comeback here again (most likely because my sister lives here) I doubt I'll want to go here again. I think I found my culinary back-scratcher in Cotton Patch Cafe! Their menu is vast. It had so many choices. I tried the Cajun blackened tilapia with shrimp with 2 sides. and a roll and topped it off with a carrot cake. Unlike other chain restaurants, the "sides", black eyed pea and green beans in my case, did not get the step-children treatment. They were prepared with care! This place does have a Cracker Barrel vibe to it., although I like Cotton patch's food better. They beat Cracker barrel on the attention to detail on the "sides". The service was very attentive, polite and courteous. Our server made sure she checked up on us regularly. Really appreciate that!. Everything was delicious. We ordered food to be delivered from this location. The food came completely cold and the portions were significantly less than they should have been. The spinach dip appetizer we paid for was only a few bites and the chips bag was 1/10 full. No way a group could share this, as it was barely enough for one person. This was also true of all of their non-entrée side items. Each was packaged in the smallest container and then that container was only 1/3 full! This was true with the mashed potatoes, soup, and all the sides. Even the gravy! There was barely any in the container and it was not sufficient to cover the chicken fried chicken. It was ridiculous. This location might be good food if you dine in (we wouldn't know), but if you order delivery, you'll get 1/3 of the food you pay for and it'll all be cold! I feel tremendously let down by the food at this location. Granted, I have only had food delivered (and I do understand some food just doesn't travel well), however, when it comes to the meals we have received, everything is either over salted or bland. My fiancé ordered the Mushroom Swiss Chicken Fried Steak and I had the Santa Fe Duo (blackened tilapia and shrimp). Both the tilapia and shrimp were incredibly salty. I also had a baked potato and broccoli rice casserole. Both sides were great. Fiancé said his meal was mediocre. I live across the street from Cotton Patch and decided to try it despite mixed reviews. I ordered the chicken fried chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy on the side. By side, apparently Cotton Patch meant poured into the bottom of the bag. The order was brought out to me by a delightful staff member & I didn't think to check the bag as it was sealed, Covid protocol. I got home to find gravy all over my order as it was all spilled into the bag, the chicken was cold despite it only taking me a couple minutes to get home and the potatoes lacked seasoning. Avoid going during their 30% off Thursdays because they get slammed you'll have to wait a really long time to pick up your very cold food that just sits waiting for the staff to get to each car for curbside delivery. The medium steak was medium well and the grilled shrimp were raw on the inside. There are often items missing when we order curbside. Side orders of shrimp come with 4, but only received 3. None of the side orders came with the meals ordered online. Notified the store of the missing items, they asked if we could return to pick up the missing items, went back and there were still items missing. I explained that I knew they were really busy today, but online orders allow for 45 minutes to ensure time to prep, pack & verify and they struck out in each area. I probably should give it 3 stars, for the service, but the only waitress didn't have a sever, and had way too many tables to service for one person. She really needed roller skates. But you know for all that, she stayed with it, and more than a good job considering the circumstances. My last review was at another location with a full staff and she beat it. I decided to order from this place wanting to order something different here in the area to go. I've had this once to go a while back and it was alright. Decided to give another try. I ordered meatloaf dinner with green beans and mashed potatoes. My boyfriend had chicken breast with green beans and mashed potatoes as well. I also ordered a side of onion rings from the appetizer menu. I ordered online and paid prior to pick up to make things easier. I arrived for pick up curb side. The employee was pleasant and friendly. So I grab the order and feel it odd that the bag of food feels extra light. I drive around and decide to open it. The meatloaf looks 3 days old and dried out. Also the sides are child size portions. Mind you these plates are not cheap! So I was pretty annoyed. I am unable to go inside since there is a sign at the door saying no one can enter. I decide to call and complain and got a busy signal for several minutes. I arrive home and finally get an answer. I explain to to the person on the phone what occured. He gets the manager on the phone. The manager does apologize and offers a free meal. I can appreciate that. I go ahead and order a turkey bacon avocado club sandwich with fries thinking this is something pretty easy. I go back pick it up and arrive home. Its literally a turkey sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes. So irritating. I probably should have checked the bag so that is probably my bad. Also fries were cold. So disappointing and waste of my time. My bf said chicken was fine. Green beans and mashed potatoes were bland and cold. So unfortunately not likely to return. It feels strange to give a restraunt with such good food a low rating, but their response to the coronavirus pandemic has been woefully inadequate. When I went to pick up my order, they were running behind and there was about 10 people gathered around the door, none of them 6 feet away from each other, and some of them coughing. Once I was called up for my order I had to go through the middle of the crowd to pay and pick up my order. The pay online option on their website doesn't work, so I had to use my card, and then sign the receipt with the same pen everyone before me had used. And of course there was no hand sanitizer. And the cherry on top was that while I was inside paying for my food I saw the person in the kitchen coughing. I am on immunosuppressants, so the last time I left the house for non medical reasons was a week ago, and the restraunt I picked up food from the had a number of policies which made it safer for their customers. In case anyone at the restaurant reads this, I will list of the policies I have seen below in hopes that they implement some. 1. Payments are made online or over the phone so that multiple credit cards aren't handled without a change of gloves 2. The door was blocked off by tables so the employee came out instead of customers coming in to remove the choke point. The food was placed on the table and the employee could go back in, staying 6ft away from the customer 3. When picking up medicine, I have had the employee walk out to my car so that there was only a couple of seconds of interaction between two people 4. Food was ready by the stated time. I would much rather be told a later time and the food be cold than have to wait in a large group of people during a pandemic. Calling or texting customers if there are delays would be another alternative, allowing one person to come to the door at a time and the rest could wait in their cars If it weren't for these health and safety issues, I would happily have given five stars, but no food is worth risking your life over when there are so many safer alternatives. read more
