Cotton Patch Cafe is a problematic franchise. Cotton Patch Cafes in College Station and Bryan are downright poor. Filthy. Slow service. Indifferent food. I have eaten in both the College Station and the Bryan version. I totally disliked both of them. * * * I am pleased to say the Round Rock Cotton Patch cafe is better than either of its Aggieland cousins. The Round Rock Cotton Patch is CLEAN. That is frequently not the case in Bryan or College Station. My food was not great. I had a brisket queso. The dish was not well designed. The brisket was lovely - but it all stuck together in one piece. The chips were conspicuously too thin for even for salsa. I couldn't pick up my queso with my cheap superthin chips. Not being able to pick up one's food defeats the purpose of providing chips in the first place. Not that I was missing any kind of big treat. The queso itself didn't taste like much. I didn't die but what I had wasn't great. * Entertainment value was low as well. On TV, two out of the three channels were Cotton Patch's own advertising-itself TV, The landscapes were all standard Texas Highway Department "Texas-Is-a-Lovely-Place-To-Visit-Right-Now". The show didn't make me want to visit any of those places. The frequent ads for Cotton Patch did not make me want to go out and buy Six Cotton Page Gift Certificate cards. I love my friends and family. I know some of the best people in the world. They have not done anything bad enough in this life to justify them being punished with gift certificates from Cotton Patch. read more

The first order the grilled Salmon smelled old and fishy, rice mushy and corn dry tasteless. Service was ok except she kept forgetting things. The atmosphere was old country style. When I sent my order back the manager came back with it (with an attitude) asking what was wrong with it. My friend sent her fried fish back because she asked for extra crispy fried and it was not. The manager appeared agitated about our returning the food received. I will not return to this place. read more

This place constantly gets orders wrong through Uber/Door Dash. Finally talked to the manager and I can see why that place is incompetent as it is. The manager told me he would make me another meal, but was condescending about it and kept suggesting for me to take responsibility for the orders being wrong lol I was going there twice a weak and this guys attitude was clearly a sign to leave that place alone. Comfort food and inexpensive prices along with generous portions. Old fashioned customer service, Dominic, our waiter was phenomenal. He aimed to please and very attentive as well as courteous. He checked on us often but wasn't overbearing. Hard worker. Hostess was attentive as well, positive attitude. Very personable. Ordered the Beef Tips Jr. Beef tips somewhat tough. Portion was just right, I was hungry for this amount of food without having to worry about not eating it all and having leftovers. Green beans tasted like they were straight from the can and Mac's and cheese tasted straight from a box. Was expecting more homemade sides but I settled for it with no complaints. Chicken fried steak was delicious. You can tell the gravy was homemade from scratch. It was sooo good. Had enough portions to make 2 meals. Butter rolls were divine. Straight out the oven, soft and buttery. I asked for a side of honey and dipped the honey into the butter to make my own whipped concoction. The rolls could've been a meal in itself. Ordered the peach cobbler. For $7 you get a humongous slice with a side of ice cream. The cobbler was rock hard cold, so I brought it home and heated it up in my air fryer to get it hot and made the crust somewhat crispy. Indulged at home. Overall, I was satisfied. The quality and the care that they take making their food is top-notch. The ingredients are always fresh. You can tell freshly cut Texas caviar I love it. I had chicken fried steak and it was perfection. Lee was my server and he was so attentive I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Oh, in the bathrooms were pretty clean. read more

I was in town for work and was excited to see there was a Cotton Patch Cafe because I first experienced this restaurant while in town in Granbury, TX and it was absolutely amazing! The food and service once again was amazing and this time I got the Meatloaf with mash potatoes and green beans! I wish we had Cotton Patch Cafe in Atlanta! I highly recommend this restaurant with no reservations, you won't be disappointed. read more

They would have gotten 5 stars if they hadn't forgotten our drink and if the food was warmer. The food (through Uber Eats) was tasty. We got chicken fried chicken and chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, brocolli rice casserole. Squash casserole, and French fries. Kiddo had a kids meal with chicken strips, mac and cheese and fries. They forgot his drink and his cookie so he was pretty sad. The food was good. Tasty and nice portions but not warm when it arrived. The jalapeño gravy was delicious and had a nice kick. We will be back! read more

Food was reasonably priced and service was great. Kids menu had a lot of options. For the adults, you can get 2 entries with 4 sides total for $23. Kids eat free on Thursdays with the purchase of an entree. All the food tasted as they should. I've definitely had better versions of both the fish/chips and chicken Alfredo but they were still decent. I will definitely come back when in this area and try out some of the other dishes that I couldn't try this time around. read more

I ordered two Classic Cheeseburgers with lettuce, tomato, and red onion, special sauce. What was received was: 2 dry burgers! No cheese, no veggies, no seasoning, with a side of cold fries that weren't even edible! I was so very disappointed that I could actually cry! I love this restaurant! For a long time it was my favorite. The food is still delicious, but the portion size keep getting smaller and smaller. I thought that maybe I had mistakenly ordered a children's plate. I do not know what happened, but please bring back the original portions. Service is still great! This is still one of the restaurants that truly allows for conversation. Definitely a plus. Still tasty food just a little disheartened by the small portion sizes. read more

I ordered the festive feast with turkey for our Christmas dinner. Just got it out to start cooking and it had ham in there, no turkey. We did not want ham and some can't eat it. Well, let's say Sunday evening about 4:45 PM and the place is kind of dead, not busy lots open tables. I'm sitting here waiting for my daughter and grandson to celebrate her birthday that was yesterday. What's she arrived? She was greeted by our server and she immediately ordered an appetizer of chicken, fried bacon, and her drink and kids drink . Our other party ordered a lemonade. here we go so three adults one child and here we go . The appetizers seem like it took forever to arrive once it did it was fresh crispy, and pretty tasty . A few minutes later, we placed our orders and my daughter ordered beef tips with a few sides. I ordered the seafood platter and other Party guess ordered a simple yam. As time went by and remembered this place is not even busy. It's hard to see who's in charge because nobody seems to be taking the lead looking around not a lot of activity among the servers. It's pretty pretty bland. Knowing that our food is taking much longer than expected our server brought over a basket of hot rolls on the house, which is very nice of him and refilled our drinks . Finally would seem like 35 or 40 minutes later are on entrees arrived minus the yam for other party which he said was still being made a baked potato style item that came out last unbelievable. At this point, she did not even want the yam as we were eating our main dishes and it still hasn't arrived. It wasn't until we were almost done that they finally arrived and he apologized. She just took it to go.. As for the beef tips, very disappointing my daughter said they were tough no flavor and there was a french fry inside of it hiding which you can see in the picture. The macaroni and cheese side was nothing greater than typical kraft macaroni It seemed and the mashed potatoes were just kind of hard and not even fresh . As for mine, the catfish and fried shrimp tasted mostly like oil from the fryer. The shrimp were kind of bad they were OK. I guess the dumpling side was actually probably the best thing that me and my daughter both liked the other sides of mac & cheese again weren't that great and dried out . The catfish was very salty and I even gave away my jalapeño poppers so I got no feedback on those to the other party guest who ate them and they were average. Bottom line if you're not in the hurry, then this is the place for you but having a lack of management presence and the urgency of the kitchen to get things out much faster is terrible. Our server did the best I think to handle it as best that he could, even though at the end I had to remind him the kids meal came with a cookie, and I was overcharged an extra Pepsi that was refillable on the check that I caught before I had to pay Total cost $70 probably not gonna visit this place again and head over to Cracker Barrel 2 stars read more

We went in on a Sunday afternoon right before the dinner rush and it was perfectly fine. They have some really good daily specials so I opted to try the chicken and dumplings for the Sunday special which was really good and filling. We also did the fried green tomatoes which I thought was pretty delicious. My husband did the chicken fried steak is absolutely stuffed. We did two kids meals and it was abundant as well. We did enjoy the mac and cheese. The service was pretty good. I really can't complain. We had a good time. During a recent stay at nearby Kalihari Resort, where the food isn't affordable by regular people, my family and I went looking nearby for dinner on a Thursday evening -- and we found Cotton Patch Cafe. We were seated within minutes, and our waitperson (receipt says "Chukwuemek E") took our order quickly and efficiently. He left us alone when we didn't need anything, but seemed to show up any time we needed him. The free hot rolls were delicious (I could have filled up on them and skipped the meal, they were so good) and came with *soft* butter -- unlike many places which bring the cold, hard square of unusable butter. I had the chicken fried steak, garlic mashed potatoes, and green beans -- each of which was *nearly* the best I've tasted. My wife had the meatloaf and said it was just right. Her baked squash caused her to exclaim with delight, as did the peach cobbler for dessert. Our children scarfed down their kid meals without complaint. At the end, I had the pleasant surprise that "kids eat free" on Thursdays, so the bill was significantly less than I'd expected. I can't wait to try Cotton Patch again. read more

Service was great.. the food was very good too. We had the grilled shrimp and turkey & dressing. The turkey was a little dry but all & all it was very good. The waiter brought me another tea when my glass was 3/4 empty, without me having to ask. That's always a nice touch. I didn't think the prices were all that bad for what you get. I was greeted very friendly in the to go order side of the restaurant. My order was taken quickly and sent to the kitchen. I watched a steady flow of to go orders came out of the kitchen as I waited. During Lent this is a big to go place for catfish--big pieces, well breaded, great texture, good flavor. Today I got a BLT with a side salad, and fried mushrooms. First, let's discuss the salad. It's pretty sad looking. But they add cucumbers to it, which is a nice touch. As for the sandwich, I was disappointed that it wasn't cut.  It also had nasty tasting spread on it. The menu may disclose that, but I saw the sandwich listed online and it simply said mayo. This was not mayo. The bread is nice and thick, heavily buttered and toasted. I was excited about this--at first.  But the bread tasted slightly sweet. And it was so greasy in my hands. The combination of the nasty spread and the sweet bread made this sandwich a loss. I appreciate the mound of bacon that came on it and the fresh tomatoes though.  I'm going to make my own sandwich with sandwich bread. The fried mushrooms were terrific! The batter enveloped each mushroom and tasted tremendous! I wish I knew what it was seasoned with. Home run! The service, the fish, the mushrooms, and the cucumbers push this rating to 4. read more

Cotton patch and there staff haven't seemed to let me down. The food is always amazing and great portions as well. I made an order through uber eats and sometimes the app doesn't give you many options but when I called up there, the manager Trevor is such a great person he helped me out with what I needed and didn't rush me off the phone or have a bad attitude knowing they are busy. I've seen many mixed reviews, but I had a good experience. It's a good spot for southern eating, which is rare in Austin. I had the chicken fried brisket which came with white gravy and bbq sauce. Absolutely tasty! I also had mac & cheese and fried okra. Each side reminded me of Luby's. It was comfort food to a T. The service could be better, but all & all I enjoyed the experience. read more

Today visited for lunch and the place did not look very clean upon entering doors. No one was at host stand. It didn't take long for a sweaty gentleman to approach and lead us to a booth to be seated. He was kind. We ordered our food and while snacking on our free bread my daughter shrieked and pointed behind me. I look back and a roach is crawling towards me in my booth. I stood up quickly not wanting it to crawl on me and asked the waiter to get it. He says "umm no we have a guy for that" and proceeds to walk back to kitchen. A man with apron comes out (is this the cook?!) to look for said roach that has now crawled behind my seat. Nuff said. No thank you. I couldn't even eat my food I ordered. I ordered to-go/delivery from Cotton Patch via Door Dash. The process was fairly simple and quite fast. I ordered their new Chicken Duo Plate which came with both a piece of chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken. For my sides I ordered a loaded baked potato and green beans. In addition my son ordered a Chicken Tender Basket with French Fries. I have to say that I was just a little disappointed with my baked potato. I know that it's to-go but it was just kind of sad looking and hard. There was a a small cup that accompanied my plate that included the butter, cheese, sour cream, bacon bits and chives. I ended up trying my best to soften the potato by running it through my microwave a few times. The main entree on the other hand was quite tasty with the brown gravy and it was great to have the option to get both the steak and chicken. My son enjoyed his tenders and the fact that he was able to select several different dipping sauces with his order. Overall I was fairly satisfied with our order and may decide to try other options from their menu in the future. read more

We stopped in one of these on the way back into Texas a few weeks ago. It was so good that we were fortunate to find one within reasonable driving distance of the house. So we came back during lunch time and had their lunch special again, which consisted of chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes and jalapeno gravy, green beans, broccoli and rice. Everything was wonderful. The broccoli and rice wasn't quite up to my taste but it was still very good. Hope they build one of these nearer to where we live although a 20-minute Drive isn't going to kill us every once in awhile. read more

The take out food here was very good. I have not eaten inside. Nice home type cooking.

I ordered to-go and I wasn't really impressed. I had the Triple Grilled Cheese with fried okra and a peach tea. It may have been better to have in the restaurant. The sandwich was cold and the okra was soft fried and soggy. My wife had the fried catfish and shrimp. The catfish was fried well but the shrimp was another story. Ugh read more
