    Fried Chicken Sandwich
    Ryan F.

An awesome fried chicken sandwich with the right amount of sauce and flavor to satisfy your hunger. The fries are OK however they probably taste better at 2 AM if you know what I mean. A decent overall experience.

    Fried Pickles

I order a 10 piece wings and Fried Pickles. Wings are perfectly cooked, flavor is spot on. Fried pickles, are stale, way overcooked, One man is running this place at night. The neighboring night life is keeping him busy. Which probably why my pickles are overcooked. Good for late night drunken eats.

    Just admire the size

This is my first time trying this place, and let me tell you! It did NOT disappoint. I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich, 10 wings with flavors of spicy lemon pepper, and hot garlic with a side of fried okra. Their prices are affordable and the food is magnificent!! It was such a basic meal but was so good! Made my night! The chef knows what he's doing! 10000000 our of 10! Also, they are NOT stingy with the ranch!!

Honey Mustard Chicken Sandwich with Fries

I had the honey mustard chicken sandwich as well as spicy chicken sandwich here with fries and both were pretty good!

    Wings! To go!

Look. This is probably more of a three star place but I'm feeling generous and they definitely get bonus points for being open late and up north. A dark horse challenger to Pluckers, they are not, however someone picking up the phone and making me wings at 11:45 deserves a nod. Honestly the wings were not bad. The sauces are not as good as pluckers -- that's a real thing but I was happy with my decision. I got the Hot and Mercury Hot. Both sauces were a little lacking in real flavor but had some heat to them. The Mercury Hot isn't crazy hot but does look angry and is more heat forward and less flavorful. Maybe another pro tip would be to ask for your wings naked with sauces on the side. The bleu cheese dressing is a bit funky. I suggest sticking with ranch. After the fact I tried to put my finger on it and I figured it out. It IS FUNKY.. like bleu cheese! I mean a strong funk. Cheese forward. Maybe great on a salad but I think people who are combatting hot sauce are looking for something more akin to "Marie's" rather than something more flavor forward. I can't say that I'll be running back but in a pinch, I'm in.

I guess they maybe listened to my bad review and went back to serving the food that the previous owners had. It's back to being great.

Not a fan, the Cajun cheese fries were cold, the Cajun ranch made the whole order cold. The Philly cheese steak is made with ground beef.

A friendly gentleman, who I presume was the owner, greeted us at the front counter. He mentioned a couple of things they were testing at the moment and while we studied the menu, he brought out some samples. We ended up loving the cherry bbq sauce and my boys both selected that for their chicken. I chose to try their maple gochujang. Caspers has a few two top tables where the boys played a game of connect 4 while we waited. About 15 minutes later our food came out, including some house made cherry limeade and peach lemonade. We took it to some nearby picnic tables and dug in. I'm happy to say, the chicken was outstanding! All three of us were very impressed. I'd like to get my hands on a bottle of the sauce! That cherry bbq would be amazing on a smoked pork butt or some ribs. The maple gochujang was sweet and mildly spicy. The crinkle fries were also crispy, hot, and delicious. We washed it all down with those homemade drinks! Home run! They were perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of vinegar and cooked to that ideal tender texture without being mushy. The fried chicken and catfish were outstanding. Both were well seasoned, incredibly crispy, and tasted like they were fried in fresh grease. Every bite was hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The baked macaroni and cheese was good, but it leaned a little more toward a Velveeta-style cheese sauce than my personal preference. Still a solid 9/10. I also ordered the Peach Passion Fruit Hennessy margarita, and it was superb. Smooth, flavorful, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the prices were very reasonable, and the portions were generous. If you're looking for authentic soul food in Austin, The Rolling Rooster is absolutely worth the stop. I'll definitely be back.

Would you pick a fried chicken spot for a Father's Day brunch? Probably not...but that's exactly…read morewhat my husband chose for his special day. I don't eat a lot of fried food, but sometimes you just go with the flow. Every year, we go through the same routine. Two weeks out: "Have you picked a restaurant yet?" Not yet. One week out: "Any ideas?" Still no. Then, three days before Father's Day...bam...the decision is made! Luckily, this last-minute pick didn't require reservations. This year's winner? Drum roll...The Rolling Rooster. Honestly, you've got to love the name. The Rolling Rooster is located in a strip center at the corner of Mopac and Wells Branch Parkway. It looks small from the outside, but once you step in, it opens up into a surprisingly spacious dining area. It's not fancy, but it has a warm, homey feel. We were greeted right away by Edna, who handled both hosting and serving. She was friendly and welcoming, embodying that classic Texas Southern hospitality. The atmosphere was cozy, with a smooth R&B playlist spinning in the background. As you'd expect, the restaurant focuses on Southern comfort food...think fried chicken, wings, and waffles. The standout for me was the catfish: crispy, flavorful, and coated with a slightly heavier cornmeal crust than usual, which added a nice texture. We both went with the 2 | 2 combo...two meats and two sides...choosing fried chicken wings and catfish. For sides, we had yams, fries, Mac n cheese and my favorite...grits. The food tasted like something straight out of a family kitchen...comforting, hearty, and satisfying. Portions were generous and reasonably priced, so much so that we didn't have room for dessert on the spot. We did, however, grab some banana pudding to go and I'm glad we did. It was absolutely delicious and the perfect sweet ending to the meal. The hubby and I got to enjoy some quality time while he enjoyed one of his favorite meals...a win-win! Happy Father's Day!

Today, I finally got an opportunity to taste this highly rated BBQ. People...the hype is real!!! We purchased a turkey leg, sausage, brisket (what they're known for) and chicken. We also got two sides of potato salad and dirty rice. I am not a big fan of brisket. However, the owner allowed me to have a sample of the brisket. I fell quickly, madly in love with the brisket. The brisket is so flavorful, tender and moist. So, so good!!! Next, I tried the turkey leg. The meat literally fell off the bone. Yummy to the Nth degree!!! Now, let me talk about this sausage...I have never eaten sausage this good. The sausage was (yes was...we ate it all!) dense, yet moist and super tasty. This sausage did not have a spec of grease. I think I ate most of the sausage. The chicken was also super moist and tender...made you want to slap yourself. The sides were good, however, the standouts without a doubt were the meats. The owner/chef was very personable, and highlighted the preparations associated with his menu items. He created a welcoming and chill environment... I highly recommend trying Bigg Belly BBQ...you will certainly enjoy your dining experience. Pro tip: Sunday and Monday Bigg Belly BBQ is closed. Also, the number listed on the Yelp website is for their catering business. I submitted corrections to Yelp today.
