For being less than five minutes from me, I have never had a meal at Smokey Mo's BBQ until recently. First things first, their breakfast tacos are fantastic. They have great proportions of egg, cheese, bacon, chorizo, potatoes, and all that jazz. I think they have some of the best breakfast tacos I have had in town. I have had them a few times now. Yesterday, I went to Smokey Mo's for dinner because I wanted a baked potato desperately. I walked inside with only a few other people eating and no line. I ordered a chopped brisket baked potato with all the fixings, with an individual sized side of their pinto beans and a regular drink. They have plenty of drink options from bottled beverages, alcoholic beverages, and their Pepsi fountain drinks. They also have a section to serve yourself with pickles, onions, lemons, and peppers. It was only a few minutes before I got my meal, and the baked potato was excellent. I ate it as quickly as I could for recently having my wisdom teeth removed. It is a pretty large potato, and it was able to fill a hungry guy like myself up pretty well. The chopped brisket was plentiful and was quite savory. I missed brisket. As I finished my meal, I went to get a refill of my tea, and they had already removed the teas from their fountain drink area. There were still other customers inside besides me, and they were still open for another 40 minutes, so that was a little disappointing, but it did not really make or break the visit. I have always been a big fan of Smokey Mo's! I have even eaten at this location since it opened, always trying to boost it up. However, when someone or something shows you who they are, believe them. $20 for a two meat combo is stupid. It's even worse when they get you with the extra charge for your normal meat selections, which isn't listed. If you don't get chicken or turkey, you're probably paying extra. Want brisket? Extra fee. Want moist brisket? Extra fee. You're paying extra. Everything is extra, and the food is not good. I ordered the two meat combo, like usual. Moist brisket. I got the driest, worst brisket in existence. Ordered sausage, which like moist brisket, was extra. Everything is extra and nothing is beyond mediocre. Even mediocre, I come back, but not after the last time. Burnt, dry brisket. This is the flat and not the point I paid $1 extra for. Green beans had zero flavor and the potatoes had water all in it -- it wasn't butter. Just a nasty meal, which could have been better at ANY other place. Look at the portions as well. Just absolute slop that they serve. I sent a message through the app, which I never do. Again, I did eat here a lot. No response. Whatever, it shows what they think of you and me. I'm surprised there's so much mixed reviews. I absolutely adore their pork belly burnt ends! My husband and I each love it so much that we order a pound just for ourselves but yesterday they only had a half pound available so we made due. We also added a pound of brisket which is always good. We also love the potato salad it's one of our favorites probably the best potato salad I've had. I also like the bacon cheddar potatoes a lot and my husband likes the mac and cheese. We also like each of the sausages quite a bit and the BBQ sauce. The service was excellent yesterday, the person at the front was very accommodating and gave us plenty of bread and extra pickles/onions, which we appreciate. The place was clean and well organized. Glad to see some bbq options in Hutto. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was pretty cold in there, but on a hot day it felt great. There is plenty of seating for families or larger groups. The station of pickles and onions and utensils was kept tidy and clean. The baked potato side was delicious, but there was hardly any in the container just lots of cheese and onion toppings which was disappointing. The flavors on the meats overall are a bit plain when competing against Texas, or even Austin bbq, but in a pinch when you have a craving this will do. What a great addition to the City of Hutto. It was our first time visiting this establishment and we were pleased with the customer service, cleanliness, and overall food quality. The cashier who greeted us was an absolute pleasure to work with. I initially wanted to order a family plate with pork belly but upon her recommendation, I went with the pork loin because she's obsessed with it. I can see why. It's absolutely delicious. The ribs and brisket were also delicious and very filling. I thought the brisket was a tiny bit dry but I can be really picky with my red meats. I have always preferred mine a little raw The mac and cheese is decadent. Very rich and very creamy, with lots of cheddar notes. The coleslaw was fresh and nice and crunchy. I wouldn't mind coming back. The family plate wasn't cheap but it's really nice to have enough leftovers for the next two days. In this case, I feel it's definitely worth the money. The first time my dad took me there, the lady at the window gave me a small bowl of bacon--BACON!!! I'm pretty sure I made the happiest dog face of all time. Then, on our next visit, they actually remembered my name and greeted me like a VIP! I drooled all over my dad as I stuck my face out the window sniffing at the wonderous smells! One day--get this if you think nothing can top bacon--THEY GAVE ME MY OWN LITTLE SLICE OF BRISKET! Now, every time Dad asks, "Wanna go see the Bacon Lady?" I get all excited and start drooling before he even finishes the sentence! I can't help it; the memory of that smoky bacon and tender brisket sends my nose and tummy into a frenzy. As for my dad, he's a huge fan of the turkey and brisket plate. He says it's always perfectly tender and moist, and he loves that yummy creamed corn. It was not busy inside so we got our order pretty quick. It is nice and clean inside. I ordered the pork rib plate which comes with three ribs and two sides. My two sides were the Mac and cheese and green beans. The Mac and cheese was pretty good just missing some salt and pepper. The green beans were good too. We had a very long difficult day and decided to order takeout. After struggling with several other restaurants to get food that fits our diet we decided on Smokey Mos BBQ. We placed our order on the website but the DASHER delivered someone elses food to us, we dont know where our food went but the food we received we could not eat so we returned it to the DASHER. I called the restaurant they were very kind and gracious considering this was not their fault. The customer service was excellent there. I also called the Door Dasher to let them know and for once they offered to reimburse the restaurant since they were remaking our order and we didnt want them to be out any money. Avoid this location. I've been a long time patron of Smokey Mo's since 2004 and this is the worst experience I've had at one. We got three brisket sandwiches with a side of potatoes and a rib plate with sides of potatoes and green beans to go. We waited around 30 minutes, everyone that came in after us had received their food and finished eating before our food came out and several cars went through the drive through. Another patron saw us waiting, checking on our order, looking concerned and asked if it was our first time there and said they are slow like this sometimes. The ribs and sandwiches were good but the potatoes went straight into the trash because they were very undercooked. We even tried microwaving one of the portions for a minute and they were still so firm that they were inedible. Now I'm concerned we will all wind up with food poisoning. It's one thing to wait a long time for your food but another to have it be undercooked. I'm guessing they ran out of potatoes and were rushing to make more and didn't finish cooking them. They could have handled this better by the cashier giving us a warning at the time of ordering that the needed to make more in order to manage our expectations or give us an opportunity to order something different. Or they could have mentioned this when we inquired about the status of our order after everyone in line after us received their food. And if they aren't cooking potatoes to completion, it makes you wonder about their food handling and safety practices for all their food. Overall poor customer communication and food safety concerns make this a no go for me in the future. read more

We were excited to see the 'now open' sign! It's our first time at Smokey Mo's, and we were not disappointed! The brisket and jalapeño sausage were delicious. We tried creamed corn, Mac and cheese, coleslaw, and potato salad- and we loved them all! Probably won't get the bacon cheddar potatoes again. I ordered a three meat plate plus burnt ends for take out. One of the meats I ordered was pork ribs and those were missing completely. They did give more burnt ends possibly as a substitute but without telling me. The bacon cheddar potatoes which i really wanted were missing as well and substituted with potato salad without explanation. The burnt ends and mac and cheese were good. The brisket was a disappointment and the chopper was average. I did ask if everything was in the bag and was told yes so that was a chance for them to explain any substitutions. The first time I tried calling in an order, they couldn't enter my order on their system because what I ordered was marked out of stock in their system...but they told me they had the item. I just went to Smokey Mo's for some brisket sandwich combos. Added some cake and pies. After placing my order and paying at the window, I asked the gentleman if I can get BBQ sauce, pickles, and onions. He says all that comes with the order. A young lady brings my order. I ask her if I'm getting BBQ sauce and pickles and onions. She says, yes, it's all in there. I get all the way home and....no BBQ sauce. I call the restaurant and relay this exact story word for word. His first response is a question. We didn't give you any barbecue sauce? I say, that's what I just told you!! Then he says, if you come back, we will give you extra BBQ sauce. I said no and hung up. So now I know it will be Southside bbq for me from now on.
