This is a solid spot for bbq and it doesn't break the bank. The Thurman plate came with brisket sausage and pork ribs and two plates feed a family of four for about $40 total. Salt lick doesn't stack up to the flavors of the more modern bbq spots like interstellar or La bbq but it does the job for fraction of the price. The meats were tender and had the typical Texas bbq salt and pepper taste. The meats didn't have a distinctly strong Smokey taste but it was still good. I like the bbq sauce because it was more vinegary and tangy which compliments the fat and tender meat.

I smelled it at the red light! I was craving bbq and decided to swing by Salt Lick. I had to wait to be seated, but the wait wasn't long . I ordered an Arnold Palmer and someone took my order about 10 minutes later. I order the brisket and bison rib plate. The plate came with beans, cole slaw , and potato salad. The brisket was decent, I have to eat it with the fat to get a good flavor profile. The flavor wasn't bad at all! The bison rib was VERY good. I just wish my rib was more tender . Keep the bread next time, it wasn't warm and inviting to eat. The bread taste like an after thought. It was like bread was left in the car while all the other groceries were carried into the house. So yes, please keep the bread away. The beans didn't taste like baked beans/bbq beans . The potato salad wasn't that good. I loved my coleslaw because it had a unique flavor. Overall my experience was fine. I can see myself coming back.

Salt Lick currently has three locations - the original location in Driftwood, Texas, one in Round Rock, TX and one in the Austin, TX airport. For a short time, Salt Lick had a small BBQ restaurant on Capitol of Texas Highway, which was super convenient. Tonight, I was at the Salt Lick BBQ location near the Dell Diamond. I was in Round Rock dropping off some documents, so I decided to ping a good friend to see if she wanted to eat at The Salt Lick, one of my favorite BBQ places. She said yes to the BBQ! Love friends who are spontaneous... The Round Rock location is the quintessential country BBQ joint - casual setting with wood tables and picnic like benches. It also has some uniquely Texas artifacts such as the Texas flag and rod iron finishes. They also have indoor and outdoor seating. Tonight it was quite chilly, so no one was eating outside. They plenty of free parking on both sides of the building. Our server, Patton, was very friendly and welcoming. He checked on us frequently. I love Salt Lick's BBQ turkey as it is super moist and flavorful. Tonight, I planned to get the turkey plate. When Patton said they were out of turkey, I felt like I was in an echo chamber where I heard the word...no, no, no, no, no! After I was resuscitated (kidding), I ordered the rib plate instead. The rib plate came with Cole slaw, pinto beans, and potato salad along with bread and pickles | onions. The ribs were tender with a sweet glaze. We split dessert - pecan pie and Blue Bell vanilla ice cream. The pecan pie was a bit disappointing as the topping was hard and the part in the middle that is supposed to be squishy had the consistency of hard gelatin. The ribs, BBQ sauce and ice cream were the standouts of the meal. I can eat Salt Lick BBQ sauce with almost any meat. Tonight, Salt Lick was super packed, and the noise level was pretty high. Overall, a pretty good meal...

This casual place with long picnic tables didn't have a wait on a Saturday around 11:30am at the end of November. You will be seated and a server will take your order. The server is nice and friendly. There's a nice variety of meat platters to choose. We ordered 2 meat plates and sweet potato fries for 3 adults who are good eaters. The food came out quickly. All of the meats were tender and moist. IMO the meats are a bit salty and not a lot of smoke flavor. Pickle spear from a jar and a raw onion accompany the meat. The sides of beans -and potato salad are good. Sweet potato fries are definitely sharing size and worth getting. Private parking lot. Great location on a main road off the highway.

I've been coming here since they only had their first location, and it's been amazing to see them grow. Their BBQ is always delicious and consistent across all their locations. The portions are generous, and the brisket is always tender, juicy, and flavorful without being too salty. I also love ordering the burnt ends as a treat. The ambience here is peaceful and calm, which made the visit even better. We brought our Australian Shepherd, and the staff were so kind--they even brought him a water bowl! Honestly, this location has won my heart.

Great place for BBQ! Picnic tables both indoors and outdoors. Decorated in a fun and lively way. The staff is friendly and informative. The food is delicious! I had Thurmans Choice with baked beans and potato salad. My fiancé had the Bison Ribs with baked beans and macaroni and cheese. Everything was delectable! We also asked for the bread, pickles, and onions. They were soooo good as well. Amazing place to go with friends. Next time I'm in Round Rock, I will definitely return!

The food was really good I had the thurman's choice and it was soo good the food came quick and fresh when you walk in you're able to see the chefs making the food ahead of time. Around the area is really nice kalihari is 4 minutes away which is really convenient. The sweet tea is so good there is free refills and free barbecue sauce it is awesome!

If you want BBQ that has a strong wood smoked flavor this is the place to go. The meats are very flavorful and you really can taste the smoked taste on the meat and it is very tender. We tried the brisket, ribs and sausages and it was good. The server see nice and friendly. The only thing i wish they look into was the sauce they have it was pretty mild even the hot ones. The coleslaw needs a little more sting on them.

We grabbed lunch before heading back to the airport and our server was great. He was very attentive and always checked in with us. Many combos and platters for everyone's taste and their BBQ sauce was delicious that I just had to bring one home with me. Overall I love recommending Salt Lick BBQ to everyone!

It had been a few long years since I had been to the Salt Lick and was not going to miss out while in Austin. We went on a weekday at an off time and were seated promptly. Service was super friendly and efficient. The pork ribs, lean brisket and burnt ends were spectacular, as was the Cole slaw and bread. The beans were a little lacking in flavor and the cobbler was very sweet. Portions were a little on the light side. House BBQ sauces were delicious. This is an Austin institution and not to be missed.

Brisket was dry unfortunately. Barely any beans given Potato salad no taste very bland. Was good last time I came years ago. This time was disappointing.

Did take out on this trip --brisket, turkey, sausage and Cole slaw. The brisket was my favorite--tender, moist and large pieces. Their hot BBQ sauce is spicy!! The interior is casual. Food was ready when we arrived.

Here's my smoked ribs. This is what a rib should look like

Thinking this was actually going to be a ribeye steak, that's what I ordered. The breading was good, not overly heavy, the gravy was tasty, although very peppery... so far so good right? If this was a ribeye, this was the thinnest, most gristley ribeye in the history of the world. I had to spit out almost half of it because it was full of tough, fatty chunks of gristle!! Very disappointed in this and would never order it again from here! The mashed potatoes were mashed potatoes, but still on par. The steamed vegetables were boring, and plain, but still edible. On the other hand, my dining partner's pork chop was impressive and he ate every bite. He said he would be back again for the pork chop! He liked the demi-glaze, as well as the well seasoned mushrooms on top. The people we encountered were very nice and friendly. I try to give places a chance before deciding they are not for me…read more When I first moved to Hutto, I was intrigued by Southside Market and their history. I had known about the historic location in Elgin that claims to be the oldest barbecue spot in Texas. They have updated their processes to keep up with the times and in the last 15 years have begun opening new locations throughout Central Texas, with one in the Co-Op District of Hutto. I have had plenty of barbecue in my time, from chains to Texas Monthly recognized and Michelin star winning locations. I understand that not all barbecue is the same, but I also understand that barbecue served all day like at Southside Market can still be good. I do not think that is truly the case, though. My first experience was when Southside Market catered a holiday party for my work. I thought it was alright, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt, saying that it was catered. You do not judge a meal based on it being kept warm in a pan that was probably cooked at 8 am that morning or the night prior. It is not the same game. I went back a few months later for a birthday lunch and got their combo plate with sausage and sliced brisket. My first thought: This tasted like it was catered. The Jalapeño Cheddar sausage was decent but tasted a little too smoky, and the brisket really did nothing for me. The side of potato salad was good, but you cannot mess up potato salad that badly. Their mac and cheese was good, I think. I do not remember it whatsoever. I went back recently after almost nine months with a desire to get a baked potato with chopped brisket for lunch. I got it without sour cream but kept the rest of the toppings of cheddar cheese, chives, and butter. I took it to go, which I rarely do, but it was a busy day. I cannot describe how disappointing the potato was. First, the potato was smaller than I had expected. The saucy chopped brisket tasted like a smoked Sloppy Joe thrown on a spud. It was really too smoky for me to even enjoy it. I felt like I was eating a chimney. It did nothing to raise my spirits and like that, I was forever out on Southside Market. I am probably one in a million because they have steady foot traffic inside on a frequent basis, but I wonder if the name is doing all the work. The staff was great and the space is well done and spacious, but the food actually has to be good to make that a plus factor. I have no idea if the food is any better at their original Elgin location, but I would rather go to Smokey Mo's across the tracks in Hutto because the potato is a good size and the brisket had a good flavor to it. Here, I just was not impressed. I will not ever return unless I am invited with co-workers or something, and even if I am, I will debate the idea of saying yes.

They have great proportions of egg, cheese, bacon, chorizo, potatoes, and all that jazz. I think they have some of the best breakfast tacos I have had in town. I have had them a few times now. Yesterday, I went to Smokey Mo's for dinner because I wanted a baked potato desperately. I walked inside with only a few other people eating and no line. I ordered a chopped brisket baked potato with all the fixings, with an individual sized side of their pinto beans and a regular drink. They have plenty of drink options from bottled beverages, alcoholic beverages, and their Pepsi fountain drinks. They also have a section to serve yourself with pickles, onions, lemons, and peppers. It was only a few minutes before I got my meal, and the baked potato was excellent. I ate it as quickly as I could for recently having my wisdom teeth removed. It is a pretty large potato, and it was able to fill a hungry guy like myself up pretty well. The chopped brisket was plentiful and was quite savory. I missed brisket. As I finished my meal, I went to get a refill of my tea, and they had already removed the teas from their fountain drink area. There were still other customers inside besides me, and they were still open for another 40 minutes, so that was a little disappointing, but it did not really make or break the visit. I have not had their main barbecue, but it looks decent for being a seven days a week chain. That baked potato was delightful though. RIYL: A spuddo in Hutto.

Late posting this review. I've been here twice with my husband now (recent visit was this past…read moreSaturday). I only have pictures from our first visit, but the second time around I got the fried pork belly fried rice as my side to go with the pork ribs. The pork ribs are moist, tender, and fall-off-the-bone delicious! On my first visit, I got the potato salad as my side. It was okay, just not as flavorful as I personally like -- but everyone has their own preference when it comes to potato salad. I ended up adding a little extra seasoning to mine, which is why I decided to try a different side the second time around. The pork belly fried rice paired really well with the ribs! The BBQ sauce could use a little more flavor in my opinion, and the portion they give is pretty small, so I ended up adding some of my own sauce. But the pickled onions and pickles on the side? SO good. Especially the onions -- they had such a distinct flavor that I could honestly eat them by themselves. They reminded me of the pickled veggies you get on a bánh mì sandwich, just without being overly vinegary. Honestly, if they ever made a brisket bánh mì sandwich using those pickled onions and veggies, it would probably be amazing! My husband always gets the brisket sandwich and loves the onions and pickles with it too. The location is tucked away down a small, rough-looking road near some duplexes. Our first time coming, we almost turned around because we were in my husband's coupe, but the second visit we took my SUV instead. Don't let the road scare you away though -- the food is worth it. The staff was friendly and helpful both times we visited. The location is also super convenient for us since we live nearby. Definitely happy we found this spot!

I ordered the 1 Meat Brisket Plate, which comes with a side, sauce, and pickles/pickled onions. Bro... that brisket was like butter. I know "tenderism" is trending all over social media right now, but this right here is the real deal!! It was so incredibly soft. For my side, I got the potato salad. To be honest, it was a little bland on its own, but it actually worked as a nice, solid base for me to hook it up my own way once I got home. Overall, Smoky Buns is a dope spot and easily hands-down the best BBQ in Central Texas!!!! I will absolutely be back.
