We've been to Whiskey Cake quite a few times because it's an easy, casual dinner close to home. I love being able to book through OpenTable and skip the wait. The staff tends to be on the younger side. While they are really slow at times and don't always seem as well trained as they could be, they're consistently friendly, personable, and genuinely seem happy. On this visit, our waitress took good care of us. Our first draft beer was the 512 live oak hefeweizen and it arrived flat with an off taste. He drank it anyway, but ordered something different for the second beer, which was much better. We decided to share the fried green tomatoes appetizer, a cheeseburger, and, for the first time ever, the famous whiskey cake. Usually we're too full to try dessert. Unfortunately, our fried green tomatoes came out at the same time as our cheeseburger, and two of the tomatoes were actually yellow, which gave them an off flavor compared to previous visits. The cheeseburger, however, was juicy and delicious. The whiskey cake was served warm with whipped cream. It was a little denser than I expected, but still enjoyable. I came in for Sunday brunch. I had a reservation but at 12 they weren't very busy. I loved the cozy rustic feel of the restaurant. There's in indoor seating area by the bar with comfortable chairs and couches and an outdoor patio seating area with couches. I believe this could be for waiting on when grabbing a drink with friends. They have several seating areas that can accommodate large parties. I got the steak hash and everything about it was delicious. I didn't need the avocado sauce because it was so flavorful. The steak was cooked perfect and tender. The potatoes were well seasoned. The greenery was well dressed with a refreshing light vinaigrette. This was my first time here so I had to try the whiskey cake. The vanilla bean whipped topping was delicious. Returned to WCK to finally try their fish n chip. We saw another patron who ordered and looked delicious months ago and since then I've been wanting to have it. At first, my intentions were to share with husband but he wanted his own and enjoyed every bite. It was very crisp and cooked to perfection however the oil could have drained a little longer but still good. We also started with the goat cheese fondue that was delicious but not much of a portion for sharing but with a generous amount of sourdough that accompanied the dip. I had a birthday slice of sticky toffee pudding for my birthday that I've had a few times in the past. In my opinion, it has not been as good as the very first time. Not as moist. Whiskey Cake has been on my list of places to try. I was in Round Rock today, so today was the day! I entered in, and just to the left, a host greeted me in. I said this was my first time here, and that I was excited to try them. She was super polite, very friendly. She sat me at a booth. She walked away for a quick minute and came back with a water glass and a small pitcher of ice cold water. My server came around. And gave me my menu and said you gotta try the whiskey Cake. Cake? Did someone say cake? Yes please. With cake on my mind. I thought I better balance this out. So I played it safe and got the grilled chicken salad. Also she said everything is house made from scratch, such as the cocktails, juice, salad dressing and so on. I did order a juice from the bar. It was the Jessica Wabbit with mint, carrot, lime, ginger, and some other flavors. The drink was handed to me first. Lovely flavors, could taste the fresh mint, fresh ginger. A little sweetness with the pineapple. Brilliant mix of flavors. The salad was very large. Dressing was fresh, rich with basil and garlic. Chunks of bacon and wedges of hard boiled eggs, avocado chunks, blue cheese scattered around, and the grilled chicken, warm juicy and beautifully chard. Love that charred flavor. The salad dressing was really delectable. Wonderful salad. Next came the whiskey cake. This cake should be its own food group. The cake itself has a beautiful flavor, it's a little dense, in a good way. The sauce is outstanding, it's toffee and sweet. Heavenly really. Pecans on top are spiced. I could only eat half of the cake. I'll snack on that later tonight. The food was outstanding. I would love to come back and try other food items. Service was perfection. I had so many wonderful conversations with everyone I came in contact with. I was wished well by everyone I passed by. Even in the bathroom, the host was coming out and she asked how my visit was. This place is known for providing good southern comfort food. My friends and I tried the prime rib and Gouda stack, the chicken and waffles, their mashed potatoes, their salmon, macaroni and cheese, and their whiskey cake. The whiskey cake is probably this restaurant's saving grace as the cake is decadent moist, and the combination of the pecans with the caramel and the whipped cream all just make it so delicious. It was definitely worth the wait to have it at the end and in retrospect, it probably would have done well to have first since the food that we ordered was a little more on the lackluster side. I found it hard to be impressed by the prime rib and Gouda stack as they were no defining flavors for this rather expensive sandwich and the mac and cheese was also not very memorable. When it comes to the service provided at the restaurant, there were many times where it felt as though our table had been forgotten to be waited upon, despite there not being many other people at the restaurant. Overall, I think my experience at Whiskey Cake was OK and while I may not return for the food necessarily, I would for the cake. read more

I loved whiskey cake so much when I lived in Katy -- so much so that I would take everyone who visited me there. but since moving to austin three years ago, I haven't had it + was excited to try this location. we went for brunch and the menu was pretty limited on options. it's almost as if you were forced to select a sandwich because the actual brunch meals made no sense/felt lazy. for example, the chicken and waffles were chicken *tenders*, not regular fried chicken.. that feels very lazy. I order the yard bird. it was an oven baked chicken with veggies. good, but not worth $22. I could've made it at home. everyone else at the table basically ordered pancakes with eggs or French toast because the menu was literally that limited, there was no "oo I want to try that!" moment. The service was great as we were a big party. The staff kept coming to our table to apologize on the long wait times; which was confusing because there was barely anyone in the restaurant... but the parking lot was full? where were all of those people? I don't know. the experience wasn't bad but, it didn't hold up to the standard of whiskey cake that I'm used to. especially for $66. the Katy location was so good, it even smelled like whiskey cake. and I remembered this restaurant brand having more culinary forward items like their blue cheese chips during happy hour. Wow. Just wow. This place is amazing. The atmosphere is laid back. They even have some community dining tables. Music is towards the alt. The servers are sooooo friendly. Everything about this place rocks. The food was delicious! We tried the goat cheese appetizer with sourdough. They mix it at the table which is cool because they explain what each of the ingredients is. I had a steak salad and my friend had the chopped chicken salad. Both amazing. I really like Whiskey Cake Kitchen and frequent some of the locations in the Houston area. This was my first time dining at the Round Rock location. They're all set up pretty similarly so it felt familiar when I walked in. Our server was Kayla. She was very nice and attentive. Drinks: I started with the Pineapple Cilantro Smash. I absolutely love cilantro, and really enjoy it in cocktails. This drink was good, but it had a spicy kick to it (from the Scrappy's Firewater Bitters). I also had the Guava Gimlet which is one of my faves. It's sweet and smooth. Apps: I cannot resist the Deviled Eggs! One thing I really appreciate about Whiskey Cake is that the toppings change seasonally and you never know what you're going to get. At the time of our visit (November 2025), the eggs had grilled onions, chives, a cream sauce, and a potato chip! It was different but so creative and delicious! We also had the Fire Roasted Brussels Sprouts which we thoroughly enjoyed. The Boursin and Parmesan Cheeses were so good! Entrée: I had the Fish 'N Chips. Nothing could have prepared me for the portion of this entrée. It was easily enough for two people to share! The fish took up the entire plate. I really enjoyed the malt vinegar and tartar sauce, especially with the lemon juice that I squeezed on the fish. The chips that came with it were tasty! It was so much food! My mom had the Grilled Shrimp Rigatoni while my stepdad had the Wood Grilled Salmon. They both enjoyed their food. Dessert: We had to have the Whiskey Cake (which is the only dessert on the menu). The cake is served warm and it is so good! I love the house made vanilla whipped cream and I like that they give an entire bowl of it for the table. Holy shit, when are we going back? Some friends were in from Houston and made us a brunch reservation. They were familiar with the restaurant but I was a first timer (first of many I foresee!) I wish I had taken pictures of everything. I ordered the fish n chips and it was the best I've had in austin so far! It has been a few years since I have been to Whiskey Cake. A friend who lives in Round Rock, TX invited me to the Whiskey Cake happy hour aka Social Hour (3-6 pm). Whiskey Cake has a warm, homey and rustic feeling. The happy hour menu has a variety of items to choose from. The Social Hour has reasonably priced menu items, which are primed for sharing. The Social Hour features small plates including Wagyu corn dogs, BBQ spiced pork rinds, blue cheese kettle chips, grit fritters, and meat and cheese boards. Social Hour usually features discounted classic cocktails such as margaritas, martinis, guava gimlets, and house wines and select draft beers. That is the good news regarding Whiskey Cake. Now for the not so good news...The focal point of this Whiskey is the three long high-bar tables in the center of the room with folks on both sides of the tables. There is a small partition separating you from the guests next two you. The noise level was so high in this Whiskey Cake I could hardly hear my friend speak. It felt like we were yelling and not having a normal conversation. The likelihood we will return to Whiskey Cake is extremely low. read more

Grabbed lunch here with a big group of family and was pleasantly surprised. We had a reservation, which I would recommend for a large party on a Saturday afternoon. It's gone down hill. So basically they keep removing amazing items off the menu and replacing them with mediocre cheaper or just plain old worse items. I don't buy for one bit all the items they have removed over the years weren't selling well enough to keep so they eighty-sixed them. Croquet madam for example was amazing not just by my standards but people used to post it all the time and so what do they naturally do they removed it from brunch and replaced it with more burgers dry scrambled eggs and dry biscuits and tasteless roasted dry chicken. Same with the chicharrones they used to have for happy hour they sold so well they where consistently on everyone's table when I'd go have beer with my wife also a highly posted item on social media and where recommended every time we went. What do they do ? They removed them permanently and pretended they never existed lol. Again I'm just giving a couple out of many examples of why this place is working against its own interests. Most people I ask if they want to eat there or have been there lately have told me it's no longer on their radar because the food they do keep on the menu is just so so and not worth the price. Great ambiance nice staff mediocre to just ok drinks and slightly overpriced for what you get. The place is very clean nicely decorated pretty warm and inviting yet the food doesn't match which makes it a huge missed for me personally. If you read most of my reviews I always consider everything as a whole and rarely nag about stuff because I want to be positive and highlight great businesses not rant and complain like other people with a sense of entitlement do. Meaning you can't just chalk this up to me being one of those consistently negative reviewers that just wants to feel special and important, I truly know this place can do better and have experienced when there where good and know they can come back before it's too late. I want them to succeed and start serving that awesome food I had once enjoyed coming here for. Yet I can't help but feel like the response to this will be something related to how they have never had such complaints and everyone seems to enjoy the hard work they put into making amazing food and sorry I don't also enjoy it ,lol . This was my first time at Whiskey Cake, a chain of restaurants owned by a conglomerate that also owns Velvet Taco. Others in our group of 5 had enjoyed this restaurant on multiple occasions. We had reservations and were seated on the glassed-in porch on the North side of the restaurant. While the ambience of that location was great, the space was quite noisy, making it difficult to hear one another at times. The area where we were sitting seemed to empty out around 7 or so. With happy hour ending at 6, the early clientele likely finished around that time. Service was excellent, and food and drinks were tasty and innovative. The menu is pretty limited, so it's worth staying open-minded and trying something you wouldn't normally choose. My husband and I did that by ordering the prime rib and gouda stack, a sandwich packing a flavor punch with its blend of ingredients. This came with a choice of a side. Others in our group ordered salmon, fish and chips, and another variety of sandwich with fries. There are also salad and beef options. The ketchup served with the fries was exceptionally good. I was told it's made in house. For dessert, everyone had the only choice on the menu, (surprise!) Whiskey Cake. The chocolately, pecan-topped moist cake was served atop 2 sauces and topped by the waitstaff with fresh whipped cream. My husband and I shared one (it was more than enough for us). Pricing is definitely on the high side for what you get. It's justified on some level by the quality and freshness of ingredients, but between the limited menu, pricing, and noise level, this isn't a restaurant I'd visit on a regular basis. This ended up being the dessert I decided not to have, and I have zero regrets. Smooth, bold, and a perfect way to wrap the meal. Their tarter sauce (or remoulade) was great and they served it with a little squirt bottle of malt vinegar which was fun and a great idea by the kitchen. The fries were some of the best I've every had. Crispy, greasy, hot, and had that homemade taste. My wife had the chicken and waffles and she had nothing but good things to say about it. And of course the Whiskey Cake dessert was off the charts. This is a great spot for a romantic date or a celebration dinner. Not too loud. Tables well spaced. I will start by saying that I've already been here a handful of times in 2025 alone. This has become one of my personal favorite places to dine at. All the times I've been here, I've had excellent service, with the exception of my most recent experience while visiting with a few friends on 10/18/2025. Our server was not very friendly, and also was unapologetic about his behavior with our group. Long story short, we asked for a manager, who tried to make things right. We believe this was a one-off experience, and it will not deter us from coming back. The food!! Tasty, fresh, and satisfying. Their portions are quite substantial, and they are pretty consistent with the quality of the food they put out, especially when you order the same meal more than once. At this most recent visit, I ordered the French Onion Burger. Good quality meat, cooked just how I ordered, and tasted amazing. Lots of flavor, but also very juicy, to the point where it can get messy (My friend mentioned this as well). My spouse ordered the Chicken and Waffle. They make a very good waffle; it's huge, and crisp but not dry. The chicken was not salty, but was still delicious. I sampled some of hers, and I think that's what I will order for my next visit. I almost always order their whiskey cake and it never disappoints. Gotta love how they pair it well with pecans and whip cream. Also, must note that they get their ice cream from Amy's Ice Cream, and so each day could be a different single flavor. On a different occasion, I've had their chopped salad and it was scrumptious and pretty good for a salad. We love eating here as a family and will continue to do so. But we will make sure to ask for a different server if they pair us with the same one as this most recent time. The manager offered us a good deal for our next visit, but we were supposed to do something upon exiting, and we did not. Oh well. Always a great place to hangout and enjoy Whiskey Cake's food. Came here on a GNO dinner with friends. Ordered the goat cheese and bread for appetizers, fish and chips (OMG, it was huge), but oh so tasty. We came by friday afternoon for a post work happy hour with our 2nd date night this year... and enjoyed a HH old fashioned and colada fresca . We also ordered a meat/cheese board, which for $7 was reltively a few bites for one, so next time I'll order 3. OMG was it good. After HH ended (bc we wasted time trying to go to bar louie's and jack allen's) but this place was great. not cheap but great. little rye lies and thyme traveler -were our 2 post HH drinks and i loved little rye lies... thyme traveler was not my favorite but I had to try it. it was a bit punchy at first, but then it mellowed into a great tasting drink. We arrived and there were 2 open chairs but not next to each other. my husband was like well, what's next? The bar mgr (?) or restaurant m gr offered to get us an additional chair if we wanted to sit at the end of the bar bc a patron was just using the extra chair for her purse. yay! Very sweet and accommodating. Our bartender also knew i was contemplating 2 different drinks, made me the first one but said if i didnt like it, she'd make me the other. it was very poblano fwd... so we did indeed scrap that one despite its outward beauty, and went with the Thyme Traveler. great spot and easy way to spending an accelerated evening, time flies when you are having fun. read more

The atmosphere is dim, cozy, and casual with a little bit of decorative tables and middle bar area which I felt was a little to fancy for me. If I had gone during dinner time I would have dressed up a little and felt more in place with the atmosphere. Since I went early before lunch rush started I dressed down and more casual which was okay too. Recommend the devil eggs. Yes they look different. They are made different than devil eggs you may see and a family get together. But they are absolutely delicious. The turkey chili was to spicy for my liking so I had to send it back and ordered breaded chicken sandwich which was delicious. Wasn't a big fan of the bun because I am not a bread person and it over powered the delicious flavor and taste of the chicken. My husband ordered chicken and waffles. Absolutely loved because he different leave anything on his plate and I didn't even get one bite so I could try them. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable when it came to explaining the menu items. Helpful and answered all our questions we had about different menu items. We didn't have to wait to be seated. Service was immediately and we ordered our drinks and food and all was made fresh and hot. Didn't take but about 15 minutes maybe to bring out our order. Saved the best part for last.... The dessert is a must have. At least must try. The size is huge so plan to share with 2-3 people or plan to take home leftovers. Yes they offer a children's menu but because the menu is classy and little fancy I would bring children under the age of 12 especially if you have yourself a picky eater. read more

Nice place to hang out and have some great cocktails. Its a place for whiskey and bourbon of course, but also great food. I've been here a few times and the service is amazing. The place is so big and the ambiance is just on point. Brunch, lunch or dinner is well worth it. read more
