I really like Whiskey Cake Kitchen and frequent some of the locations in the Houston area. This was my first time dining at the Round Rock location. They're all set up pretty similarly so it felt familiar when I walked in. Our server was Kayla. She was very nice and attentive. Drinks: I started with the Pineapple Cilantro Smash. I absolutely love cilantro, and really enjoy it in cocktails. This drink was good, but it had a spicy kick to it (from the Scrappy's Firewater Bitters). I also had the Guava Gimlet which is one of my faves. It's sweet and smooth. Apps: I cannot resist the Deviled Eggs! One thing I really appreciate about Whiskey Cake is that the toppings change seasonally and you never know what you're going to get. At the time of our visit (November 2025), the eggs had grilled onions, chives, a cream sauce, and a potato chip! It was different but so creative and delicious! We also had the Fire Roasted Brussels Sprouts which we thoroughly enjoyed. The Boursin and Parmesan Cheeses were so good! Entrée: I had the Fish 'N Chips. Nothing could have prepared me for the portion of this entrée. It was easily enough for two people to share! The fish took up the entire plate. I really enjoyed the malt vinegar and tartar sauce, especially with the lemon juice that I squeezed on the fish. The chips that came with it were tasty! It was so much food! My mom had the Grilled Shrimp Rigatoni while my stepdad had the Wood Grilled Salmon. They both enjoyed their food. Dessert: We had to have the Whiskey Cake (which is the only dessert on the menu). The cake is served warm and it is so good! I love the house made vanilla whipped cream and I like that they give an entire bowl of it for the table. I really appreciate how consistent Whiskey Cake Kitchen is with their food and service. Hopefully Austin will get more locations in the future.

It has been a few years since I have been to Whiskey Cake. A friend who lives in Round Rock, TX invited me to the Whiskey Cake happy hour aka Social Hour (3-6 pm). Whiskey Cake has a warm, homey and rustic feeling. The happy hour menu has a variety of items to choose from. The Social Hour has reasonably priced menu items, which are primed for sharing. The Social Hour features small plates including Wagyu corn dogs, BBQ spiced pork rinds, blue cheese kettle chips, grit fritters, and meat and cheese boards. Social Hour usually features discounted classic cocktails such as margaritas, martinis, guava gimlets, and house wines and select draft beers. That is the good news regarding Whiskey Cake. Now for the not so good news...The focal point of this Whiskey is the three long high-bar tables in the center of the room with folks on both sides of the tables. There is a small partition separating you from the guests next two you. The noise level was so high in this Whiskey Cake I could hardly hear my friend speak. It felt like we were yelling and not having a normal conversation. The likelihood we will return to Whiskey Cake is extremely low.

This was my second time at Whiskey Cake, and the vibe is warm and fun, and it was definitely busy, so I'm really glad we made a reservation. Without one, the wait would have been rough. We decided to make a meal out of appetizers and ordered four to share. Everything came out of the kitchen crazy fast and was served hot and fresh. The charcuterie board was the best one. We also had the deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, and the onion dip, and all of it was really tasty. We planned on sharing the whiskey cake for dessert, but we were completely stuffed and couldn't eat another bite. Portions were generous, and we still ended up bringing leftovers home. Service was friendly and checked in just enough. Overall, it's a solid spot with good food, a lively atmosphere, and it's a good idea to book a reservation ahead of time. I'd definitely go back again.

Wow!! We were looking for a brunch spot in Round Rock and this place surpassed all of our expectations. The food was superb, everything we ordered came out hot, super fresh and absolutely amazing! Service was quick and efficient, even for a busy weekend day during brunch. If you visit, you MUST order the jalapeño biscuits - they are incredible. Also highly recommend the short stack pancakes and the steak & egg hash - both were to die for. The indoor seating is vast and the decor/furniture makes this place such a vibe. Highly recommend - I would come here every weekend if I lived in the area!

This was my first time at Whiskey Cake, a chain of restaurants owned by a conglomerate that also owns Velvet Taco. Others in our group of 5 had enjoyed this restaurant on multiple occasions. We had reservations and were seated on the glassed-in porch on the North side of the restaurant. While the ambience of that location was great, the space was quite noisy, making it difficult to hear one another at times. The area where we were sitting seemed to empty out around 7 or so. With happy hour ending at 6, the early clientele likely finished around that time. Service was excellent, and food and drinks were tasty and innovative. The menu is pretty limited, so it's worth staying open-minded and trying something you wouldn't normally choose. My husband and I did that by ordering the prime rib and gouda stack, a sandwich packing a flavor punch with its blend of ingredients. This came with a choice of a side. Others in our group ordered salmon, fish and chips, and another variety of sandwich with fries. There are also salad and beef options. The ketchup served with the fries was exceptionally good. I was told it's made in house. For dessert, everyone had the only choice on the menu, (surprise!) Whiskey Cake. The chocolately, pecan-topped moist cake was served atop 2 sauces and topped by the waitstaff with fresh whipped cream. My husband and I shared one (it was more than enough for us). Pricing is definitely on the high side for what you get. It's justified on some level by the quality and freshness of ingredients, but between the limited menu, pricing, and noise level, this isn't a restaurant I'd visit on a regular basis. We enjoyed the experience and definitely recommend giving the place a try.

Visited Whiskey Cake with my parents, grandmother, and two daughters to celebrate my birthday lunch. The restaurant offers an upscale ambiance - dark and moody speakeasy vibes. I plan to come back in the evening to enjoy cocktails and dinner with the girls or for a date night. We were seated promptly and received excellent service throughout the course of our meal. Ordered a variety of appetizers for the table to share, and I was very pleased with the quality and taste of the food. Standout items include: - Jalapeño Gouda biscuits served with butter and a delightful house made jelly. - Goat cheese fondue - so unique and tasty! - Mac & Cheese - a classic that this spot does right. We had to try their iconic whiskey cake for dessert, a scrumptious toffee cake served with freshly whipped cream. It was epic.

Lunch at Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar was... mostly a vibe. The star of the plate ..French Onion Burger Brisket blend, whiskey-braised onions, gruyere, garlic-thyme aioli, beef jus, Frenchie bun This burger was really, really good. The bun? Loved it. The brisket blend? Nailed it. Rich, savory, and clearly the kitchen knows what it's doing when it comes to beef. No notes here -- this is the kind of burger you slow down for. The letdown...Crispy Chile-Butter Potatoes ..Fingerling potatoes, smoked chile-butter, fresh herbs..Now listen... these were not crispy. Buttery? Absolutely. Tasty? Yes. Crispy? Not even a little. Is it a small thing? Sure. Is it still a thing? Also yes. Words matter. Crispy means crispy. The sleeper hit ..Turkey Chili..Avocado, smoked gouda, corn chips, spiced sour cream..This chili? Amazing. I honestly could've stopped right here. The avocado, smoked gouda, corn chips, and that spiced sour cream came together beautifully. Comforting, flavorful, and satisfying. Next time, I'm getting the bigger bowl without hesitation. Bonus round Rye Flight-Let's not skip over this -- it was everything. This ended up being the dessert I decided not to have, and I have zero regrets. Smooth, bold, and a perfect way to wrap the meal. Atmosphere & service ...The place was clean, lively, and buzzing -- but here's the thing that mattered most: My server was amazing. Even as it got busy, she never forgot about me. That matters. Especially when you're dining solo and trying not to look like you're waiting on a blanket because the A/C is auditioning for Antarctica. And yes... I wish I remembered her name! But we did get a picture together! Final word, Good food, great service, solid energy. I'd absolutely come back -- especially for the chili, the burger, and that rye flight. Next time, I might actually try the whiskey cake or the pork chops. Just... make the potatoes crispy if you're gonna call them crispy. That's all I'm saying.

    The Pork chop was amazing

It's gone down hill. So basically they keep removing amazing items off the menu and replacing them with mediocre cheaper or just plain old worse items. I don't buy for one bit all the items they have removed over the years weren't selling well enough to keep so they eighty-sixed them. Croquet madam for example was amazing not just by my standards but people used to post it all the time and so what do they naturally do they removed it from brunch and replaced it with more burgers dry scrambled eggs and dry biscuits and tasteless roasted dry chicken. Same with the chicharrones they used to have for happy hour they sold so well they where consistently on everyone's table when I'd go have beer with my wife also a highly posted item on social media and where recommended every time we went. What do they do ? They removed them permanently and pretended they never existed lol. Again I'm just giving a couple out of many examples of why this place is working against its own interests. Most people I ask if they want to eat there or have been there lately have told me it's no longer on their radar because the food they do keep on the menu is just so so and not worth the price. Great ambiance nice staff mediocre to just ok drinks and slightly overpriced for what you get. The place is very clean nicely decorated pretty warm and inviting yet the food doesn't match which makes it a huge missed for me personally. If you read most of my reviews I always consider everything as a whole and rarely nag about stuff because I want to be positive and highlight great businesses not rant and complain like other people with a sense of entitlement do. Meaning you can't just chalk this up to me being one of those consistently negative reviewers that just wants to feel special and important, I truly know this place can do better and have experienced when there where good and know they can come back before it's too late. I want them to succeed and start serving that awesome food I had once enjoyed coming here for. Yet I can't help but feel like the response to this will be something related to how they have never had such complaints and everyone seems to enjoy the hard work they put into making amazing food and sorry I don't also enjoy it ,lol . I really want to like this place yet if I lie to you and say it's perfect and everything is amazing just to flatter the restaurant then what's the use of any of these reviews if flattery is more important than just stating what you don't like about the experience. Either way some people will still like this place for their own reasons meaning my opinion is just subjective to my taste and I encourage others to take these opinions with a grain of salt and see for themselves ,as we all should.

Well this place is great. The vibe, service and atmosphere are great. I had a burger and I was most definitely top tier. Can I say the best, perhaps, but top tier - easily. Wife has fish and chips which were also great. And kids meals were also fantastic. Old fashions here are legit - kinda expected based on the name. And the whiskey cake is really good. It's a good thing too because the place is named after its cake. Overall great experience.

Decent first time. It was busy in the evening ~7pm, but we were seated pretty quickly. The food was good and the ambiance is nice. It's a dim vibe. Service was friendly, but we felt very rushed during our entire visit. We were asked if we were finished with our meal and if we'd like it boxed up, probably about 15min into getting the food. We felt we were checked up too frequently and pressured to hurry. I'll still come back another time!

Fish & Chips. Might be the best I've ever had. Served with your own little squeeze bottle of malt vinegar
    Chucky H.

Starting with the service - it was just right with our server being attentive enough, but not constantly bothering us when we did not need anything. The food - unbelievable. The Fish & Chips were out of this world. The fish was one HUGE plank that was fried perfectly so that the fist was hot and flaky and the batter was perfectly crispy without having any doughiness between the exterior and the fish. Their tarter sauce (or remoulade) was great and they served it with a little squirt bottle of malt vinegar which was fun and a great idea by the kitchen. The fries were some of the best I've every had. Crispy, greasy, hot, and had that homemade taste. My wife had the chicken and waffles and she had nothing but good things to say about it. And of course the Whiskey Cake dessert was off the charts. This is a great spot for a romantic date or a celebration dinner. Not too loud. Tables well spaced. Sort of dimly lit but not too dark inside. We left very as two very satisfied customers that can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!

Whiskey Cake is such a fun spot! We made the mistake of not making a reservation, but since it was a last-minute decision, the wait wasn't too bad. We grabbed a drink on the patio and really enjoyed the view and the vibe while we waited. When we were finally seated, we got a great spot close to the bar, and our waiter was awesome and super helpful, which made the experience even better. I had the steak frites with fries -- soooo amazing! The only thing that was a bit "ehhh" was that it was pretty chilly inside, but honestly, that didn't stop us from having a really enjoyable time. All in all, great drinks, incredible food, and a fun atmosphere -- we'll definitely be back (this time with a reservation ).

Thick-cut, almost pork belly style, with killer flavor and very meaty. Eggs - 9/10 Cooked perfectly and tasted fresh. Simple, but done right. Hash Brown Casserole - 8/10 Different than what I expected, but in a good way. Unique flavor and a great addition to the plate. Salsa - 7/10 Very homemade style salsa with a smoky flavor. I asked the employee for their favorite - chicken and waffles - and also ordered Banana Love and Grilled Cheese and Bisque. It was definitely a mix of flavors - sweet, savory, and hearty. The ambiance is upbeat. Playing top 40 type of music, folks are dressed comfortably, and the tables are a bit too close together but can easily to accommodate larger groups. Chicken and waffles. Had this one first. It served more like a main meal. Chicken was juicy, a bit more breading than expected but was easy to take it off. It was served with syrup and some sort of mayo/thousand island type mix. Grilled cheese & bisque. Had this one next. Should've been first because it had more of an appy feel. Waffles were nice and crispy, cheese was perfectly melted. I used the bisque for dipping but the also provided a spoon in case you want to continue on with it. Banana Love. Saved this one a dessert. The Nutella was pretty thick and a bit overpowering. The whipped cream was really good and banana looked and tasted fresh. Overall, very good and will eventually eat my way through the menu. The menu also offers sandwich type meals where the waffle acts as the bun. Those seem good for a real lunch.

Had the order of chicken and waffles. The tenders were HUGE covering my waffle entirely. The…read moretenders were seasoned well, slightly disappointing that they didn't have any other sauce (ranch) other than their custom sauce. Also ordered the Nutella and strawberry waffles for my son and an à la cart order of 2 eggs over medium. He enjoyed his waffle but it became overwhelmingly sweet extremely fast so beware! Unfortunately the griddle or pan the eggs were cooked on wasn't cleaned nor seasoned properly bc he took one bite and instantly noticed a "metal flavor" only for us to flip both eggs over and can physically see metal color covering the bottom of both eggs. Super disappointing but we notified the staff and they offered to remake them. Of course my son wasn't trusting and chose not to have them remade. We were refunded $3.50 for the eggs.

The art, florals and colors are like a Pinterest board come true. One of the bests desserts I have had in a long time is the Ube Blondie. Seriously, outstanding. Not too overwhelming with any flavor, equal parts frosting and cake. The Magic Matcha blends matcha with butterfly pea tea and created the perfect blend of earthy colors & flavors to balance the sweet dessert. The pastry case has stunning macarons of which I tried the Earl Grey and Coconut Espresso. Both had a surprise burst of flavor in the center. There are plenty of reasons to come back including the Saturn's Surprise (in house only drink) or the Afternoon Tea. Treat yourself to a trip into the Unicorniverse and add some color to your world!

We were exited to take my niece to the 'unicorn place' and support a plant based shop. It was super cute and she was excited about the decor and unicorns. Came a little after 9am on a Friday, it was maybe half full, but it took about 40 minutes to get two lemon tofu toasts. I was patient until my niece was getting antsy, she finished her pastry, we both finished our mediocre coffees, still no toast... I checked and the Apple Pay time stamp went through more than 30 minutes prior. I asked staff if our toast was still coming and they replied rudely like I was being a jerk to even ask. Pagers for food when they went off were obnoxious beeping. Just give people a table number and carry it out to them. Maybe they have one little toaster and person in the back? That said once the food came, the tofu was DELICIOUS, and a large portion. We could have split it. Croissant was unimpressive as was their chocolate croissant. Macarons were tasty, but not with the signature chew that ones made with egg whites would have. $$ Two plain lattes, two lemon toasts, a chocolate croissant and 6 macarons with a $5 tip was $88. Pretty ridiculous, and I am used to California, Bay Area prices.
