Its a Jack Allen's. That means good drinking, good comfort food and a nice room. It was lunch on a work day so no good drinking for me. But the massive hand-breaded homemade chicken fried steak was plenty comforting. Usually when I am in Hutto, It is hard for me to turn down the Texan Cafe. Legendary pie is legendary pie. The Texan's mains are perfectly lovely so long as you don't eat so much that you can't have pie. There is nothing like the Texan Cafe in Austin itself. First time at Jack Allen's Kitchen...Hutto, TX (right outside of Austin, TX). I am generally a a big fan of Jack Allen's and have dined at every Jack Allen's in Austin and Round Rock, TX. This location is large with a modern twist. The restaurant also an outdoor patio, which will be great for summer dining. My sorority had a special event at Jack Allen's today. The menu included guacamole, salsa/chips. crispy chicken flautas, crunchy catfish with slaw, smoked barbacoas quesadillas, and fried green tomatoes. Due to my fast the only think I could have was the guacamole without cheese, which was so nicely parsed out for me. With that said, this location food quality did not appear at the same level as other locations. While the event went well, I likely will not return to this location as its very far from home. read more

Been here a few times already, and it's beginning to feel like a wonderful go-to, either alone with my wife, or with the whole family. This time around, I had the Tampiqueña Steak and Eggs (I might've misspelled that). It was delicious, and a little spicy, but it was well done and full of flavor, just the way I like my food. We don't usually do brunch, but this was a good treat. The staff are all friendly, and the environment is very chill and safe for the whole family. WHO IS Jack Allen??? I want to shake his hand and commend him on some amazing farm to table consistency! This is the 5th I've been too of his 6 restaurants aka mouth pleasure centers. When you have a hometown favorite it's always scary when they expand..but the food quality, the service, and the atmosphere somehow transcend geographic separation and they all still feel like home. Starting off with Marvelous Matt, this man not only slings food but is responsible for every tables perfectly crafted drink order, made timely and delicious. Leading his team, he worked with the waitress and their orders, chatted with customers, and made it look like there was no place he'd rather be. Such a great happy hour! All appetizers are 1/2 off and remain their normal huge portion size. Literally a meal and at a price you can some of everything and not break the bank! Always a fav, the Barbacoa Stackers are a meal of their own! Double Stacked tostadas with a layer of refried black beans and another of Barbacoa.topped with their slaw. Pro tip, don't forget their house made Serrano or Habanero Sauce...it's literally fire in a bottle! New to the appetizer menu I had the Shrimp Tostada Bites! Great experience, clean dining room, bright lights, and amazing staff. Ordered the chicken gumball bowl to go and what I really like about it is that the gumbo is not really salty, but it has a great ballad between salt and earthy. Strong tomato, beef flavor, along with shredded chicken and chopped vegetables. Very nice fresh gumbo. I did wish it had thick cuts of sausage to make it a gumbo and more rice but overall great gumbo. I also decided to try the pork tenderloin, soft, tender fall off the fork pork. The meat taste like it was wrapped to make it circular so when you cut it, it falls apart. The brown sauce has a nice moisture add, sweet and beefy sauce, can't really taste the white sauce on top. Capital B for buttery whipped smashed potatoes. Jack Allen's potato game is strong, lovely lovely smash potatoes, thick pieces with the red skin on, love that. The mac and cheese is also yummy, I really like th bigger shell shaped shells, it tends to hold on to more cheese sauce and the shells add a nice soft cheesy taste to the pork meal. The chicken on top of the Mac and cheese was dry, I wasn't a fan of the chicken on top, it isn't a meal it's considered a side but priced as a meal. They should offer shrimp or scallops on top instead of dry chicken. Overall great experience will come back again. read more

Have you ever walked into a restaurant with your entire crew dressed up as Sesame Street characters? I have, and the Jack Allen's in Hutto got to witness it. I've been to Jack Allen's only a handful of times, and this was the first time I was coming for a full meal. Upon arrival at their beautiful pond-facing location in the Hutto Co-Op District, we only had to wait about 10 minutes before getting a table. They had pumpkins made by the waitstaff to vote on, with a lot of cool designs. The clear winner was the Little Shop of Horrors flytrap. We all ordered a drink from the bar, and I got a really great Spiced Apple Farmers Market Mule that had a slice of dried apple in it. Our waitress was dressed as Rainbow Brite and was super attentive to us the entire visit. For the main meal, I ordered the chicken sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries. Upon receiving it, I realized it was not a hand food because it was an absolutely massive fried chicken breast inside the buns. Along with the patty was pimiento cheese, pickled green tomatoes, coleslaw, and their jalapeño mayo. It was exactly what I dreamed it could be, and the sweet potato fries were perfectly crispy. It was a very simple experience but truly enjoyable and sold me on wanting to come back again. I truly think this is one of the best sit-down restaurants in Hutto, and it makes sense why it's always packed in the evenings. Let me preface the 5 stars with the clear understanding that this is rating an American joint in Hutto Texas based off environment, service, and what I was looking for in food. Not a fine dining experience. With that said, they put so much flavor in this chicken sandwich that it's hard for me to explain. I normally order these with the exactly expectation of what this would taste like but this blew me out of the water. The fries were solid and their salsa is delicious. Jack Allen's Kitchen was recommend by a good friend, so I had to go. First thing I noticed was how neat and clean everything was! The surrounding area is well lit and easy to get to. Ray was my waiter and couldn't have been more helpful! He went over the menu and told me favorites and I appreciated it. I had the chips, salsa, guacamole and cheese dip as an appetizer. Very, very good Main course was the shrimp enchiladas. Yep, a little out of my comfort zone, but very good! I think at least 4 shrimp per enchilada. Served with rice, black beans and slaw. Absolutely wonderful dining experience! There's plenty of parking and we were able to be seated right away. Our server was excellent at keeping the mood light as he joked and explained the chef specials, answering any questions we had with no problem. It's a little pricey but with the quality of the food they serve, it's beyond worth it. There's something for everyone on the menu and their non-alcoholic drinks were absolutely amazing! Overall, the place was clean, relatively quiet, and the food was delicious. An excellent spot if you're in the area and want to try something nicer for dinner. Stopped in with a group of 7 of us around 3pm on a Saturday. Their brunch had just finished up so it was the regular menu. We were seated within 10 or so minutes on the outside patio. It's really nice and spacious and they put down the retractable shades since the sun was setting. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive throughout our meal. Literally everyone in our group loved everything that was ordered. The pimento cheese and crackers that they serve you as a starter are always a nice little snack. We got: pecan crusted chicken salad, burger, fish tacos, barbacoa quesadillas, and the crispy chicken sandwich. The salad is huge and filling and the dressing with the pieces of bacon is delicious and unlike any other dressing. The flavors of the pimento cheese, slaw and fried green tomato are perfect on the chicken sandwich. The fish tacos had just enough spice and the fish was blackened and fresh. The only location with a smoker- and a very good meal across the board! I tried the special: Shepard pie. It was delicious. Fried green tomatoes were so yummy with the slaw and dressing. My friend and I had a great first experience at the new Hutto location (April 29th). We were able to grab spots at the bar top upon walking in and thought the two bartenders on duty that evening were great. I went for my go-to chicken nachitos and opted for a new dish I hadn't tried, Sweet Chili Shrimp & Noodle Salad. It was delicious and more than I could hope to finish in one sitting. I have a hard time saying anything bad about the Jack Allen's name, it's always a pretty incredible experience. We've now been to all 6 of their locations and I love the consistency. This was our first time to the Hutto location, it's in an area that I lived about 10 years ago (moved to another area of Austin suburbs) and was blown away at the general appearance of the location, it looked amazing. We went on a Thursday evening at about 5:30, got sat immediately. It was sorta odd because while there appeared to be plenty of wait staff, our table didn't get acknowledged for about 10 minutes. That was my only qualm. After that, our waitress was awesome, food was just as incredible as the other locations, love the happy hour situation. We got a queso for half price and a drink each for a dollar off. Queso was kinda small but frankly it was so good I have a hard time complaining, especially for half off. The Tejana enchiladas are my go-to, always a pain because I don't want to eat that much but they're so good that I can't stop and therefore leave super full (first world problems haha) my wife always gets the pork tacos and she could say exactly the same. My family and I came here for dinner and our experience was amazing. Our wait was 15 to 20 minutes. We were able to sit outside in the patio and enjoy the nice weather and the view of the pond and water fountain. The weather wasn't too hot or chilly. We arrived here during happy hour and had like an hour left to enjoy the half off prices on drinks and appetizers. All of our drinks were amazing and were made just right. We ordered the nachochitos for our appetizer and it was delicious. My wife ordered the chorizo pork chops, my daughter and I ordered hamburgers. Everything was tasting delicious and amazingly fresh. For the burger the meat is normally cooked to medium but our waitress let us know and asked it was okay for us. So be aware and if medium cooked is not your thing then let them know when ordering your burger. Parking is a breeze because there is a huge parking garage right next to the restaurant. It has both elevator and stairs. Also, if you use Google maps, be aware it will misguide you towards the front of the COOP. Just make sure to the parking garage for parking. read more

Today is Veterans Day and I served from 68 to 72. Each year I receive a nice invitation from Jack Allen's and this year I went to the new location in Hutto. My wife and I went with another couple and we had reservations and were seated immediately. Tim, our waiter, greeted us and took our beverage orders while we looked at the menu.. Jack Allen had a special limited menu for veterans to choose their free entrée. I opted for the chicken fried chicken, which was delicious. It was served with mashed potatoes and gravy and mixed vegetables. My wife had a macaroni and cheese with chicken entrée which also was very tasty. I enjoyed an old-fashioned and a beer while we waited for the entrées to arrive. Service was great as usual. If you haven't tried the Hutto location, give it a try. We live on the eastern edge of Round Rock and the Hutto location is very convenient for us. We find that Jack Allen's is very consistent and very good overall. . read more

This was a great visit. I went with a large group and the device was amazing from start to finish. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately and the staff took our drink ordered immediately. They talked us through the menu options and asked about dietary restrictions. They were very attentive throughout even with the restaurant being busy. I ordered a mocktail which was very tasty as well as the braised short rib. It was tender and moist. I enjoyed the red wine sauce paired with it and the mashed potatoes and vegetables. Jack Allen's never disappoints, I go to 4 of them on a regulate base, staff and service is always top of the line at all of them.

Showed up for a weekday lunch here and it seemed quite busy. Hostess explained that it was going to be a 45 minute wait. She explained that they were having some promotion for area teachers. That sounds great, but there were quite a few open tables. Seems they ran a promotion but didn't staff for it. Unfortunate experience. Maybe I'll try again later, I've enjoyed their food before but sadly didn't get a chance to on this visit. read more

Came in for dinner with some friends and another time with some family that was in town. Both times we had a great time! We were sat promptly and the waitstaff didn't miss a beat, they kept our glasses full and were well versed in the options they had on the regular menu as well as the daily specials. The most recent visit Niki was our waitress and while she was super busy she still gave us the attention we needed to make the expierence memorable. We had the chips and salsa which had a good spice and was a bit Smokey. The ravioli appetizer was tasty but missing a little salt compared the the crab raviolis our friends got which had a much better flavor. The charred veggie tacos had fabulous flavor and a perfect Cook on the veggies. The horseradish crusted salmon was light and flavorful (very mild horseradish taste) but I feel it was missing a little something to really make it pop, it was served with a side of grilled veggies and mashed potatoes that were a bit flavorless. We ordered the cobbler and flourless cake which were both fabulous. The cake was more like a fudge but really tasty . Our friends enjoyed thier enchiladas, and the pesto stuffed chicken , veggie burger were all a hit. New in the hutto area with a nice ambiance both in and outdoors. This place is not easily seen from the road since it is obscured by a large parking garage next to it. Plenty of indoor as well as outdoor seating. They do have a decent wine list (a little pricey) along with plenty of craft beers. They also have a full bar with frozen margaritas and mocktails. You do get a little complimentary scoop of pimento cheese and crackers as well as a small fruit bowl to start things off. We started off with a couple of 6 oz margaritas which I found overpriced for the size. We were also waiting for a couple of glasses of water at the table, but they never arrived. Apparently that's something you have to ask for. We had a killer burger and the avocado toast which were very much worth the money. If you're looking for a great burger, add this place to your list. We did save room for their chocolate tort dessert which was good. The service level was acceptable, and the quality of the food was exceptional for the money, otherwise this would be closer to a three star review. They will drop the bill at your table, but they will come by with a handheld device with those predetermined tips for the final transaction. Last Friday, my other half, Selma and I had a 7pm reservation for two at the Jack Allen's in Hutto. We've been loyal customers of Jack Allen's for over 10 years and have always enjoyed great food and service across their locations, until this visit. We were seated at a tiny 2-person table right next to the patio door. The constant foot traffic, opening and closing of the door, and fear of getting bumped in the back made the table very uncomfortable. We politely asked if we could move to the next table over (two 2-person tables pushed together for a future party of four). The staff said they couldn't separate or rearranged those tables and offered us only two options: squeeze together on one side of our current table to avoid the swinging door or be added to the end of the waitlist with a 35-minute estimated wait. There was not an option to give this table to the next party of 2, and wait for the following 2 party table to become available. We felt dismissed, so we left without eating. We ended up at another restaurant nearby and had a wonderful meal. Selma followed up with an email to the Hutto location that same night explaining what happened and asking if this is standard practice. We never received a response. If you're a party of two visiting during peak times, I'd recommend skipping the Hutto location and heading to the Round Rock one instead. We've had hundreds of excellent experiences at the Round Rock location over the years. read more

I went here last Saturday for an impromptu dinner with friends. We arrived when it had just opened for the day. The managers were all there and greeted us with a smile. We were able to get a tour of the building before e were seated. It is a beautiful place. Lots of space and very nice patio area. Our waitress Sam was amazing. She explained everything very well. Her service was great! The good was so delicious. I enjoyed my Chicken fried chicken and the soup had lots of flavor and veggies!
