We tried City Post Chophouse recently and overall had a really good experience. Food: The onion soup was sooo good--rich, flavorful, and comforting. The burger was cooked perfectly, juicy and exactly how I ordered it. And the fresh bread and butter they bring out at the start... simple but really delicious. That alone made a great first impression. Service: Service was friendly and attentive. The only hiccup was that they don't take tap to pay. I honestly can't remember the last time I was in a restaurant that didn't have tap to pay--it's been at least 5 years--so that caught us off guard and we learned the hard way at the end. First time having a meal at City Post. I've resisted because they are pretty expensive. Went for Sunday brunch today and enjoyed it. They offered a special of eggs Benedict with shaved prime rib and horseradish cream sauce. The poached eggs were well cooked and the prime rib/horseradish sauce were very good! It was served on a biscuit... the biscuit was a bit hard. Also, the potatoes were just a waste. Kind of a type of small steak fry, not flavorful and not warm. Would have been so much better with home style potatoes or a side salad. I prefer a restaurant doesn't add something to the plate just to make it seem more worth the price. Service was good; efficient without being intrusive. Water was refilled often. My friend and I sat longer than the restaurant might have liked, but they didn't make us feel uncomfortable. That was very good customer service. Overall- it's a good restaurant. I might go back for brunch, but based on my experience today, I would not pay the dinner prices. read more

First I'll say this place is beautiful. It's stunning in there and I love the vibe. The service was fine. Nothing spectacular just fine. I'll preface this by saying I've been in and around the Beef industry my entire life. When I go out to a steak dinner, I expect a certain amount of quality for what I pay for.. I ordered the bone-in strip medium rare. The temperature was fine. The quality of the beef was not. I believe I paid $75 for that steak...it was over seasoned and maybe the toughest cut I've ever had outside a truck stop diner. Every other bit was full of gristle. My jaw still hurts this morning from it. I can forgive over seasoning or maybe messing up the temperature. When a place serves an inferior cut and charges premium dollar for it. I can't let that slide. I feel tricked and it won't happen again. I did not say anything to anyone to fix this. I'll never make a scene or put anyone on the spot. They fooled me once, it won't happen again. We just wont be back. I paid a similar amount of money at Aris and it was 10x better. read more

This review is a from a bit of a different perspective! I shoot weddings and my clients had their reception upstairs here. Firstly, I had no idea they had this beautiful private space available! As I was a vendor, I wasn't expecting much in the way of my own dinner, but the staff totally made it such a sweet experience. Even though i wasn't a guest, they made sure I was taken care of, as far as if I needed a drink, a set of utensils or the pass and serve hors d'oeuvres. We often get disregarded to the background and no one really thinks about our day or needs- This staff did! This review is for the Brass Peacock speakeasy, located underneath City Post. I wasn't able to find a location on Yelp so I decided to post it here. The brass peacock is somewhat hidden but once you find it and make your way in you will not be disappointed. This was my first visit and I cannot wait to go again and again and again. When you walk in it has such an old school speakeasy vibe. There's plenty of seating for the small space as well as seats all around the bar and a little stage where there was a band performing live while we were there. This is such a great date night, friend night, solo night location. The greeters were super friendly and the bartenders were very attentive, knowledgeable and also friendly. There is a cocktail menu a sweets menu and a savory menu with small bites. You can follow the brass peacock on Instagram for daily specials and events. We live in Georgetown and love eating local. City Post is one of those places we only ever explore on planned "date nights," and we should probably be coming by more on nights they're running specials. You definitely need reservations most weekends. About that: They called me the day before to confirm my reservation - I was thankful to know they hadn't forgotten it. :) Then, when we showed up, they were running 20 minutes or so behind... not a problem by any means, but they're definitely booking their tables pretty aggressively and anyone not eating at the "average" pace will throw things off. Service, however, was quick and attentive and their exec chef was being present in the dining room, making sure things were running smooth from the kitchen. Food? We'd planned this to be a special night out for the holidays and intended to order every course. We'd thought about their charcuterie platter with cocktails, but they had a special tomato salad that night with burrata, mozzarella and pesto. Easy winner. Recommended with the bread service, but we're eating lower carb. We both ordered ribeyes - mine dry aged, hers not, both medium rare. My dry aged came out closer to the rare of medium rare, hers came out closer to the medium in the medium rare. Neither were over or under-cooked, however, and 100% acceptable for the medium-rare range. It's possible that whoever was on the grill that night cooked them both the same amount of time but with the difference in meat there was a difference in final cook. I added lobster, she added bernaise. We added the portabello mushrooms, which we'd thought we'd had before but hadn't. Beautifully marinated/sauced and perfectly cooked, a good accoutrement to the steaks. We finished up by sharing the sticky toffee pudding, which my wife has had in Europe before and wasn't the biggest fan. Theirs, however, was really good - sweet and flavorful without being cloyingly sweet. The Amy's ice cream paired perfectly and one was enough to share. A note about wine - order a bottle. Their wine list leaves a lot to be desired if you're ordering by the glass but is much, much better by the bottle. They serve into a decanter (for reds, at least), which is a nice touch. They also don't have problem putting any leftover wine back into the bottle for you to take home. Overall? A great experience on a busy pre-holiday weekend night, so five stars with some grace for the patrons ahead of us being slow to leave. The food and service absolutely earned that. read more

After my all-day conference, two of my friends and I we were poised for a nice dinner. So, we decided to have dinner at City Post Chophouse in Georgetown, TX. City Post as the name implies has been transformed from Georgetown's historic 1930s post office into a fine dining chophouse. With its blend of architectural charm and culinary sophistication, it immediately puts your senses on high alert. The moment you step inside, you feel the old (mail boxes, mailbox keys, building structure) and new (modern furniture, dim lighting, and wood finishes) that honors the building's past while embracing luxury. While at most fine dining restaurants in Texas is rather casual, at City Post they have an elevated dress code. The curated menu features prime cuts and fresh seafood. I had the City Post salad and Chilean Sea Bass with grilled asparagus frequently praised as "the best Chilean Sea Bass". It certainly was an excellently prepared...grilled with precision seasoning and an addicting taste. The salad was fresh and different including crisp lettuce, thinly sliced green apples and pistachios. My friends both ordered the lobster roll and enjoyed the rolls to the fullest. We ordered the bread service, another delightful addition, white bread accompanied by rosemary and sea salt butter. The bread was hot and buttery and melted in your mouth. In addition, we had prosecco, bourbon and gin cocktails. Pro tip: If you book dinner in the restaurant, you are almost guaranteed a place in the speakeasy (previously a mail sorting station). My friends and I went down to the speakeasy to listen to some live music. I had the cheesecake and my friends had cocktails. I shared my cheesecake and it was so good one friend and I ordered a piece to go. City Post sources their desserts from Sweet Lemon Kitchen, a sister restaurant. This was the perfect experience from the time walked through the door. We arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation so we took a seat at the bar and had a pre dinner cocktail. Cort took care of us and made delicious a lemon drop martini and old fashioned. The ambience was reminiscent of prohibition era and we had a cozy booth for our dinner being served by Tim. We each got oyster. 1/2 raw and 1/2 bbq. Don't let the bbq in the name fool you because they were more like Oysters Rockefeller and so delicious. I wanted to try this combo after seeing another review mention it. They offered a variety of side options and I was thrilled there was no up charge for this. The chop salad on the side was amazing with crispy lardons, crumbled blue cheese, tomatoes and a delicious blue cheese dressing. My dining companion orders the city breakfast. Stopped in for a nice lunch just because it was a Wednesday. Bread was fresh and perfectly paired with the sea salt butter and the rosemary butter, yum! Bar staff recommended the Founders Club martini and it was perfect, not to sweet! This is truly a hidden gem in downtown Georgetown. Parking is tight so you may be walking a block or two but it's worth it. We had 11am reservations, reservations are not required but encouraged. We were a party of 3 and quickly seated upon arrival. We tried a couple appetizers and each had a different entree. Everything was delicious, fresh and great quality. Pro tip: ask for the brussel sprouts to be crispy and get the onion jam on the side, it's heavenly combo. Our service was fantastic- he was very kind and attentive & helped us decide what to get! We went with the bread service (not pictured, but highly recommended!) the bread and butter were great - they had a BBQ butter and regular butter. I would just keep in mind that it's only enough for 2-4 people. We also got the lobster Mac & cheese and the roasted chicken and waffles. Both were really good! Parking was a bit of a challenge given it was a Sunday at noon, but we managed to find parking on the square - the server mentioned that the restaurant owns several parking spots behind the building but we didn't see them. We stopped in here for a cocktail after lunch and I'm so glad we did. The vibe is super cool. I guess it was a post office? I assume? Based on the name and some of the decor? But also a prohibition/speakeasy vibe so idk really know what was going on, but I liked it. Luke was the bartender while we were there and he was attentive and funny and made great drink suggestions. He almost talked us into food despite literally having just eaten lunch. I highly recommend the Post Poppy for drinks, but will have to come back and try the food another time. P.S. I just checked their website and it says this "City Post Chophouse began its story in the 1930s as a U.S. Post Office amid the Great Depression and Prohibition." Took my favorite nurse out to celebrate Nurses Week, and we were not let down! We arrived 30 min earlier than expected and were still seated at our table instead of being made to wait at the bar. This could be due to reserving online thru OpenTable. Either way it set the tone for a nice dinner. The music in the background was a nice touch. The ambient noise wasn't bad now wwre the sounds from the open kitchen. It also wasn't stuffy and we were glad it wasn't quiet like a funeral home as some places can be. Tim was our host, and he took great care of us! He checked on us often but was not overbearing. He answered all of our questions and made suggestions accordingly. The drinks we ordered were the First Class and The Pony Express. Both were good as we were trying something different from our usual. We didn't get any appetizers after seeing how big the sides were on a neighboring table. For our meals, we both ordered steaks. I had the 14-oz dry aged ribeye and added butter poached lobster portions. She had the 10oz cowgirl ribeye with grilled portobello. Both steaks were amazing and cooked to our desired temperature. We shared the brussell sprouts. They were seasoned well and not mushy or undercooked. This is on our list of places to have a nice dinner. We selected City Post to celebrate our 45th anniversary and we were not disappointed. My wife chose the Half Hen entree while I again had the "Baseball Cut" 7 ounce filet mignon and a wedge salad. Last visit the steak had to go back to bring it to medium rare but this time it was perfect! We shared the asparagus and had leftovers to bring home to enjoy. We shared the New York Cheesecake, which was absolutely perfect. Service, food, dessert, and ambiance were spot on. After dinner we were escorted downstairs to the Brass Peacock Speakeasy for an after dinner drink and some great jazz music. I highly recommend asking to visit the Brass Peacock if you have a chance. Came here for anniversary dinner, first time here. We were greeted warmly by receptionist and asked if we would like to be seated early..of course we would. Had the Salmon last time was there and it was dry, husband did not enjoy his meal either. It was our first time here and most likely our last. The service wasn't too bad but there isn't much else to write about which I find isn't a good sign when it comes to upscale dining. The prices were definitely closer to fine dining but the food itself was not. The only seasoning on the ($42) chilean sea bass, mashed potatoes, and asparagus was salt. Zero depth of flavor to any of it. You can get a similarly priced entree at Eddie V's and you'll see stark differences in quality and how it's cooked. I ordered the steak medium rare and it came rare. They asked me to cut into it to check it's doneness which I thought was strange, I don't mind rare sometimes plus I didn't want to send it back so I left it as is. The only redeeming part of this dish was the seasoning of the steak. The restoration of the building to make it into a restaurant was definitely cool, I'd recommend this spot for the experience and not the food nor the service. read more

The building is adorable the rest is "Meh.". we had a large group and were in the private room. The first thing that didn't seem right were the number of the menu items they were already out of at 7p on a Saturday night. Even some of the items we ordered they came back and said another table got the last one. One person in our group ordered the last T-bone! They do not season their food-we got the mashed potatoes side and they were beyond bland.. Service was sub par-someone from our group had get up and fill everyone's water glasses several times.
