The building is adorable the rest is "Meh.". we had a large group and were in the private room. The first thing that didn't seem right were the number of the menu items they were already out of at 7p on a Saturday night. Even some of the items we ordered they came back and said another table got the last one. One person in our group ordered the last T-bone! They do not season their food-we got the mashed potatoes side and they were beyond bland.. Service was sub par-someone from our group had get up and fill everyone's water glasses several times. Service 4.5 Drinks 3.5 not a big beer selection and their michelada was subpar. Food 3.5 clam chowder tasted very good but the temperature was just above lukewarm. The burger was not the great. Buns got soggy from the meat and pickle and the cheese was too thick and didn't melt. The patty was cooked to right temperature though. If you've never been to city post, I'm about to put you on. Firstly, as the name suggests, City Post Is nestled inside the city post office, formerly Georgetown's city hall. But in the 1930s, the building is a historical landmark!! Be sure to ask about their speak easy and cigar room in the basement. The ambiance brims with simple elegance like the high back booths wrapped in a leather like vinyl. Cool colors and a great view of the smoker where all the magic happens. The only thing better than the scenery was the food!! We started with shrimp cocktail and, lobster Mac and cheese. The Bean had their 7oz filet while I had the 10 oz butcher's cut. Medium and medium well, respectfully, with mashed potatoes. Finished off with the apricot cake pudding. Shrimp cocktail was a fresh opener. Lobster mac and cheese was creamy and delicious!!! Would've never thought such pair could taste so good!!! The filet and butcher's cut sirloin was amazing!! Cooked to perfection, seared perfectly and well seasoned!!! Mashed potatoes were a perfect complement. I want to tell you how delicious the dessert was.... But I can't. My wife ate it all. But she insists it was amazing. Five stars easy read more

I debated between a 3 and 4 star rating but decided I'd give the 4, heck it's Sunday so I'll take one for the team. I've been wanting to try city post and made a last minute lunch reservation on a Saturday. Let me repeat LUNCH. When I arrived we were immediately seated but not prior to the host informing me that I needed to remove my hat. I was taken aback as it was LUNCH IN GEORGETOWN and I'm a very feminine woman so my attire was appropriate, well at least I thought it was. I mean there were several others with shorts and flip flops, so if we're going to set a standard for attire - make it make sense IJS After my irritation and shock, I removed my hat and headed to my table. I had the salad and French onion soup and my partner a burger. We both had cocktails as well that weren't bad. I think mine was a raspberry something and my partners was an old fashioned. The initial presentation of the soup was a little off putting as the server spilled some from the bowl, so the saucer was wet. The taste and flavor were great though. We took my parent to celebrate their 70th Wedding Anniversary yesterday. They prefer to have a late lunch over dinner at 89 and 91 so we chose City Post. The staff was attentive as always, our celiac needs were easily met. Wine list is wonderful, as well as, the lunch menu tomahawk pork chop. They were out of their white cake lemon glaze dessert which was the only disappointment. But that didn't deter us from trying crème brûlée and sticky caramel pudding. It was a lovely meal. The Assistant Manager heard we loved the music playing...Sinatra, Lennon Sisters, big band and jazz playing so she gave us a private tour of their new Speakeasy and Cigar Lounge. I came here around noon on a Saturday. There was no wait to get seated. I like the atmosphere of the place, since there's a more classy vibe to it. My server took a bit longer to tend to me, but she was very sweet and helpful when it came to helping me pick what to get on the menu. I got a raspberry drink that was $9 and the wagyu burger was $18. The items were very underwhelming for the price. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there was just something that was missing in the burger. I do plan on maybe coming back but just not anytime soon! read more

Enjoyed a lunch birthday/anniversary meal with Santa Monica kin and all of us were most delighted. The service from front door to table to exit was friendly, professionally precise and complete. The Post Poppy drinks woke up our taste buds with tinges of ginger. The City Post salad was also filled with unusual tastes like tart cherry, feta, pear, and pistacho, The onion soup proved as wonderful as promised with a new broth flavouring. The Tomohawk pork chop was deliciously tender and big enough for two. Waygu burghers received a "California" thumbs up too. Georgetowners love this place. I don't. We will have to agree to disagree. * * * The City Post Chophouse is a steakhouse in the former Georgetown Post Office. The location is spectacular. The architect and project planners did a great job recapturing the grace and style of the original classic building while adding the functionality necessary for a working restaurant. As a place to hang out, the City Post Chophouse is first rate. * * * The City Post Chophouse also deserves kudos on two other points. The bar program is first rate. I was the designated driver, so I had to settle for the mocktails. (Here called Volstead Era Drinks - a nice touch.) The raspberry mocktail I had was excellent. The bottle collection is small but extremely well chosen. If this had been a night to slip into the fog, I could have done so very well with what the City Post bar was offering. * * * The service is also reasonably good. The help are omnipresent and solicitous while knowing when to stay out of the way. Later on, when it was heard that I was unhappy, they did everything to rectify the situation. One small dig ... Once the help knew that I was unhappy, My dining partner apparently disappeared into the sea. No one was checking on him at all and he had his own issues of concern. But overall, the staff is hardworking, nice and means well. * * * So what is the problem? The Food. This is a steakhouse - and prices are sky high. So what comes out of the kitchen needs to be at least very good - and given what you are paying - preferably excellent. Both what I had and what my partner had were utterly mediocre. The partner liked his salad ... But this is where the good stuff ends. I had a filet mignon that was half tasteless. It was tender but otherwise utterly undistinguished. Brussels sprouts are good at nearly every other restaurant in the Austin Metro area. These Brussels sprouts are broiled rather than boiled. But they are just as tasteless and dull as if they had boiled to death old school. Asparagus had lots of melted butter which partially covered for the actual vegetable not being very interesting. My partner's New York Strip was tough. * * * I am not happy when I get poor food at a steakhouse. The staff offered to bring me something else - But that is not the point. On something cooked as regularly as reliably as a steak, ALL the steaks are supposed to be good. * * * Here is a basis for comparison. Bob's Steak and Chop House has never served me either a weak main dish or a weak side dish. They charge about the same amount as City Post, But they deliver good value for what you pay. Candidly - and this will shock you - I have had better upscale meals at the Cheesecake Factory. I never would have believed I would write such a sentence in a Yelp review. However, take away the clown approach to entertainment, the silly decoration, and the marketing focus on high calorie desserts, And underneath it all, the Cheesecake Factory has an extremely respectable kitchen. Everything that comes out of their kitchen is first rate. And yes - you can spend a lot of money at the Cheesecake Factory too. (You don't get the gravitas of a proper steakhouse. But you DO get decent food.) For my money though, if I am going upscale and thinking about meat, I am looking at the Perry's chain and its associated restaurant, Carve. EVERYTHING that comes out of that kitchen is utterly superlative. They do real cooking as well as steak making. They have some of the best vegetarian dishes in Austin. Both plain and elaborate meat dishes are first rate. * * * City Post does not have the A-Team dishes that can compete with this level of competition. The room is great, the bar is great and the experience is fun. If you live in Georgetown and don't want to drive twenty miles for your meal, The City Post will not kill you. But for the prices they charge, I insist on better. read more

City Post at lunch was perfect because it wasn't too busy and the food was excellent. I ordered the Texas Wagyu burger with fries and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Everything we ordered was pretty good; nothing was spectacular. The service was just right, and the ambiance was good for a date or even a night out with friends. We ordered the tuna poké and four onion soup to start. The soup was my favorite! Our steaks were cooked correctly and were tasty. They weren't amazing, but they were good. Disappointed. We have been here a few times and decided to come here for my birthday. We just left after spending time in the speak easy followed by dinner for my birthday with a group of 4. The check in was good, they took us down stairs in the elevator and walked us to the table. It took us from sit down to drinks in hand 30 minutes. The drinks and atmosphere were good but it took way too long to get drinks. They had 1 bartender and it was not good. At minimum bring waters if that's the situation. The waitress was polite and friendly but not fast by anymeans, we closed out that tab bc there was no way we would have time for more and they brought us up to the restaurant for our dinner reservation. Great soft handoff to the upstairs but that was it. Our server was a pompous jerk. We discussed it and we truly felt like he treated us like we were poor and we couldn't afford to be there. Looking down his nose at us after I didn't want his recommendations. The server who was training was an absolute delight. She was friendly, had great energy and was actually nice. I ordered a glass of prosecco, he recommended a Rosé. I said I don't normally like Rosé and when I asked if there was a way to try it before selecting that, he shot me down and was extremely rude. "I'll just bring you the prosecco." Well ok then. We ordered 3 steaks, a lobster roll plus sides. When the food was brought out I was underwhelmed. It was terrible. 2 steaks were over cooked and plated like a 5 dollar cheap steak. My husband ended up switching with his steal for our friends Lobster Roll bc she disliked it and would not eat it. I added the Oscar style topping to my 7 oz filet mignon. It was bad. I ended up brushing it off all together. I didn't finish my steak bc it just wasn't good. The whole plate was warm but not hot or cold. The staff, outside of our actual waiter were all amazing as far as service goes. The speak easy needs more staff. The food was down right bad. We ordered the 24 oz New York strip, medium rare, as the special. It was overly charred and over cooked way beyond the medium rare. The grill chef allowed the flames to stoke at least 4 inches above the grill . The steak was overly charred and bitter on tue outside. Also, because it was cooked at such a high temperature, it was overcooked throughout. The Brussels Sprouts were undercooked and hard. Overall, the experience is not one that I would repeat. As a steakhouse, I do not mind spending good money for a great steak. I'm this case, our money was not well spent and well will not dine here again. For $100 per person for wine, an appetizer, one steak and three sides, for three people, we left disappointed . I did provide feedback about the overly charred (bitter) and overcooked steak ($95 for 24oz) to the manager upon leaving. If I'm going to pay steakhouse rates, I expect incredibly tasteful and perfectly cooked steaks. The food was mediocre and I can honestly say I can do a better job at home. I can say that the service was impeccable, prompt, and the management was ensuring smoothness operations. I will say that I had the Keylime pie based on our servers recommendations, and it was the best I have ever had in my life. Very glad we were able to join City Post for a lovely evening. We had no reservation, called in and were told that bar and oyster bar were open seating and that a couple tables were available. Upon arrival they let us know they had table available in the dining room, which we agreed to. My fiancé and I always like to share everything so that we can taste it all. We were promptly greeted by the friendly and attentive JP. Started with oysters, they had fantastic selection from the east coast. Then moved on to a French onion soup and a wedge. The soup was great, hot and cheesy! Broth was delicious as well. The salad was also good, can never go wrong with a wedge that has fresh bacon and crumbled blue cheese. They also split the salad for us since we were sharing, very kind of them. For the main, we decided to share the bone in strip and potatoes, the chef asked how we felt about them serving it on a block already slice for us to serve and we loved the idea. Everything was seasoned to perfection, steak was perfectly cooked with a beautiful crust. You could tasted that it was cooked on the open flame grill which we had a view of. Potatoes were fluffy and the perfect accompaniment. We took a slice of the chefs cake home for dessert. Amazing. Overall a wonderful experience, they made us feel very special. Fancy birthday dinner for the wife (no kids!). We started with some cocktails. Unfortunately, they were out of the one I wanted (kinda weird for a cocktail), but, the ones we ordered were tasty (and beautiful). I followed that up with a wedge salad (no Caesar option). It's huge and decadent! The bacon was delicious and the blue cheese dressing wasn't too overpowering. Still would prefer a Caesar option, but, this one sufficed for the night. For our main we got the NY Strip special. I would caution that they come out on the rare side - we ordered med rare and it was definitely full rare (cold in the middle). Luckily it was 24 oz so we didn't finish the middle and I cooked it up the next day. The mushrooms that came with the steak were well cooked but needed salt (not on the table). Mashed potatoes were a bit disappointing however. When I come to a fancy steakhouse, I expect decadent, smooth, buttery mash. What I got was rustic, skin on, chunky mash. It wasn't unpleasant, just didn't match with the level of meal I'm paying for. My wife picked out a white cake with lemon honey for dessert. First, the lemon honey was really awesome. I'm going to have to buy some flavored honey - it's not a gimmick. Unfortunately, the flavor was a bit marred by the icing being kind of gritty. The sides were tasty, and there was more than enough for the three of us. The loaded twice-baked potato was a bit tricky to share though. Maybe putting it in a dish could make it easier to divvy up. Drinks - We had a couple of old fashioneds (4/5), the Founders Club (3.5/5), and a non-alcoholic Ginger Spice (5/5). Not too loud but loud enough to have a private conversation. Great seating layout and staff. Where it falls down is the food. When spending $290 for two with juts two glasses of wine and two cocktails two 8 Oz filets and two sides plus a shared salad I will expect a food experience. While the steaks were cooked right and tender I can do that or I can get a similar steak at Saltgrass for a lot less and that is not saying much. The wedge salad was tasty Witt the bits of ham in it. The sides were nothing special. I want a memorable experience and food wise it did not happen. I will give it another try but at this time I can't recommend it for food but I can for service and ambiance. read more

We came here for dinner with another couple that made reservations and I will say it's pretty cool the restaurant is an old historic Post Office that now has turned into a restaurant. The restaurant is decent size. We were placed towards the back corner in a booth and I will say it was super hot. No air at all so very uncomfortable to enjoy dinner and drinks. We ordered Woodford on the rocks, the Farewell which was decent and the Post Poppy which was a very delicious cocktail. We all ordered Wedge salads and had those spilt. It wasn't bad at all, my favorite was the bacon bits! I ordered the chimichurri steak and it came out medium as asked but I was not a fan of their chimichurri. It was sour and you would get the green pieces , I thought it should have been blended so you don't taste the grainy greens. My husband ordered the porkchop and he said it wasn't anything special. He mentioned it should have came out with the char mark like our steaks but looked as it was just popped in the oven. We ordered 3 sides which is family style you can share. The mashed potatoes was just eh, the Brussels sprouts was okay too. And the Lobster Max & Cheese was just okay . Nothing special on the sides. When I say outstanding all around!!!! I'm not exaggerating! But..... let's get one thing clear up front... make sure you have your coins ready... eating good cost! lol! We started out with the clam chowder (contains smoked pork fat), oysters, tuna poke and shrimp cocktail. When I say it was all delicious.... Yo, it was DELICIOUS!!! Those shrimps was on steroid!!! Very large! Loved it. The tuna poke had a nice hint of spice to it. The oysters was very fresh. And the clam chowder, I cleaned the cup!!! Literally! ****My only complaint is to inform folks the clam chowder has pork. I had no idea. It's been 19 years since I had pork *** You would think after all that we were done. lol! Not us! We then ordered the CP Wagyu Burger and Chilean Sea Bass. My husband said the bacon on the burger tasted like they had the pig out back. He said it was the best piece of bacon (and freshest) he EVER had. My husband also never takes anything home from a restaurant, he not only took a 1/4 of the Burger he didn't finish, he also ordered the Wagyu Sausage Roll. lol! For the Chilean Sea Bass. Well it's a lot you can do to mess it up, but Chef Adrian understood the assignment. It was nice and flaky with a hint of lemon. I killed it. Well as far as recommendations goes!!! I definitely recommend this place. In fact, I'm locking in our next date here following this post. We will return for a surprise birthday dinner. My son coming home from the Army next month.
