    Pepperoni Pizza

I really, really wanted to love this place, but the food was just mediocre. The service was pretty good. My daughter was begging me to get soup with my pasta, but I wanted a salad, so the waitress surprised us with a small bit of soup for my daughter along with my salad. We ordered mozzarella sticks and they asked if we wanted marinara, ranch, or both. We said both, but had no clue we'd be charged for the ranch (which tasted like the bottled stuff and went uneaten). The pizza was delicious. Nice thin crust, wonderful crispy cupped pepperoni. The dogs and fries were served stone cold. It was truly shocking. The fries were bland and tasted like refrigerated fries. Couldn't eat them. The chili on the dog was not great. The flavor of the Chicago dog was good, but the beef dog was so cold. The burger was tasty and the tots were served warm and crispy. The pasta was just meh. Not bad, but just lacking that punch of flavor. I found myself wishing we were at another establishment that we knew had good pasta. We were dining at 6pm and they were out of a lot of items, which seemed odd. All-in-all, not terrible, but quite a trek for us and nothing stood out to make us want to try again.

The salad is very tiny. Tiniest I've ever seen. But it was loaded up with lettuce so it's not as tiny as it appears. The salad came out about 5 minutes after ordered which is fine but it took....20 min later for food. Bathroom was very clean and beautiful. Service was excellent !!! Menu was big! This place was designed with love. To increase that star ... bread... bread needs to be chewy sourdough. Please ditch the white hot dog level bread and Put some olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the table for dipping .... And if you want to really wow them.... Put out some crushed fresh garlic soaking in olive oil for dipping.... Mmmm Thats Italiiano. Now the egg plant should have been rolled in bread crumbs rather than just egg. This is the first time I've ever seen paper thin egg plant. I thought it was bread.

Tried this new place out for lunch. Called to make reservations as recommended on their FB site. Arrived a little early & waited a bit, but seated as soon as a table opened up. They were busy! Service was friendly. The interior is really cute. They had a few large groups having lunch. The food was delicious! I had the lunch special with the small soup (French onion) and 1/2 cheesesteak. The soup was amazing & the size was generous. The cheesesteak was so tasty! My husband had the Maxwell Street Polish & tots, which he enjoyed. Can't wait to return!

A very fun restaurant! There is a whole speakeasy Rat Pack vibe. Food was red also had clever names for the dishes food was well priced. Staff was responsive and courteous, one of our party was disabled and they were very helpful.

We went to The Red Door for lunch and ordered the half sub and half salad and it was the perfect portion. The dressing on their ceasar salad is the best one I have tasted so far. The garlic taste is so good and just right and so creamy. The service is good. The ambience gives off a vibe of a small Italian kitchen. A nice place to meet friends and enjoy a meal together.

Ordered our favs and split them - Chicago dogs in honor of National Hot Dog Day and Italian beef with peppers and gardiniera with salad instead of fries or tots. Yummy. Took home a slice of Italian Cream cake and another of lemon cheesecake. Delish for all of it.

First time and it was very tasty. Our service was excellent and our waitress actually seemed like she enjoyed her job. (Which seems rare these days.) She was so joyful. We got the lasagna and the Italian beef sandwich. Both were delicious. I ordered the sandwich "wet" which I probably would do the au jus in the side next time. The lasagna side was a side salad. It's a very very small side salad but given the serving of lasagna, that was okay. It was very large. Not a typical pretty layered version but it was delicious nonetheless. The sandwich came with fries which while very nicely cooked lacked flavor and seasoning. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and decor. I grew up not too far from Chicago and Detroit so it was a nice throwback to those times. We'll definitely be back and can't wait to try whatever else they have to offer. Oh... almost forgot. The butter cake was delicious. I recommend it to satisfy a sweet tooth.

These are supposed to be meatballs! Not even close!

Lunch special - 2 of 3 - select beers, slice of cheese or pepperoni pizza or house or Caesar salad. Also happy hour special was $1 off select items. Bartender initially took our order but then shift changed and another person took over. She was covering tables in another area. Salad and pizza delivered at the same time. Pizza slice was NY style - very thin and cold be folded up to eat vs knife and fork. Decent amount of pepperoni which was tasty. I prefer a crispy pizza crust so found this awkward to eat. Knife and fork provided. House Salad was just ok. Black olives, mushrooms, cucumbers, shredded mozzarella and croutons clustered on top and lettuce underneath. Salads obviously premade. Mushrooms were dried out and slices of cucumbers had shriveled edges. Greek salad looked better with fresher ingredients but wasn't included in the lunch special. There was more variety in the overall menu but didn't have time for a lengthy lunch stop. Second server worked with prices and lunch special offerings with us. Beer was $7-10 per pint glass so lunch special at $10.99 w select beers is a good deal. Not a priority to go back between parking hassle and food was just ok.

It's a local mom and pop establishment from looking from the outside, but was confirmed clearly it was from staff. Not sure where I want to begin. I'll start with the food. I got the lunch special. 1 slice, 3 knots and a drink. They were "short stocked" on drinks so only had 3 choices. Beverage was in a bottle and was not cold. I was told they had no ice either. I got the mushroom and spinach slice. The toppings and sauce were very good however the crust was black and burnt on the bottom so I just picked off the toppings. The same with the garlic knots too. You can see in the photo too. The marinara dipping sauce was cold and was told they do not do warm dipping sauce. I do believe if the pizza and the knots were not burnt, they would have been enjoyable. I am not sure if management reads this but your staff does like you very much. However, you might want to let them know discussing other employees and past employees love lives, jail records, arrest records, making fun of someone's disabilities is not ok in the workplace let alone with customers in the restaurant. I learned wayyyyy too much about the "person" that just got fired and their age and why they were arrested and closing up your restaurant an hour early. I felt extremely uncomfortable having to listen to this!

Could not believe how good it was! The crust was thin and crisp, and the oil dripping from the bottom. And was told by someone on staff that the water comes from NY, and the recipe has not changed since before the mayor of Hutto took over the business. As I drove home, I struggled to save a piece for my wife to try, but I succeeded. And she was also pleasantly surprised. However, given that she was just in NYC a few days ago, she said it's not as good as the one she tried out there, but if she hadn't tried a slice in NYC recently, she would've said that this one is very good and reminiscent of NYC pizza. This is the first time we come really close. Prior to Anthony's Pizza, we tried Russo's in StoneHill, but this one is much better. Will definitely go back for more, with the family, either to go or eat-in. My only complaint is the price for one simple cheese slice is $4.00 + tax. A legit NYC slice in New York is not selling for $4.00, probably $2.50, but $4.00 is over the top. But if the water truly comes from NY, maybe I could be reasonable. Staff was friendly and informative. The place looked neat and clean.

Any beer connoisseur will understand the technique the demands and the workmanship that goes into creating draft beer and what I really love is I fell in love with the Hill country kolsch, it's a blend of a light beer so I prefer light beers like ultra or Miller so to me it taste like a more full flavored Miller light and what I really appreciate is that it's not like a heavy IPA so it allows me to free up space in my stomach so I can go for the killer pizza. Hands-down, one of the best cheese, breads, high-quality cheese crispy, crunchy cheese bread with what I really love are those crispy crunchy edges that are on the crust it's addictive. And then you're able to dip each cheese bread into that jalapeño ranch or that creamy queso. I'm telling you this right now their house made jalapeño ranch is like crack. They should bottle it and sell it if they decided to bottle it I would buy a bottle should I say I think it's better than Wingstop? Go try the pizzas as you can see. I ordered the works pizza we can see all the beautiful cuts of meats. All fresh meats, all beautifully individually, sliced fresh crunchy crust with melted cheese. Just a great bite. If you're a carnivore this is your pizza. I wanted to jazz things up and go for the honey bear pizza and I requested that they add white sauce as the base and then drizzle on top of the olive oil. Not a deal-breaker, just a heavy hand. Now, the pizza I ordered a 10" personal pizza with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, red onions, and arugula. The pizza itself? Really good. The arugula, though... listen. It was everywhere. Overkill. I ended up taking most of it off and tossing it onto my spinach salad -- problem solved, no waste, still delicious. I may visit Obsidian Brewery time after time after time after time and never find out how their beer is. This is because a) They have an outstanding bar and b) They have an outstanding kitchen. For me, beer is a hardship beverage you drink when there is nothing else better available. When I go to a bar, I can sometimes be looking for mix-mastering. Usually I am looking for outstanding top of the line hard spirits. * * * When I walked into Obsidian, I looked at their bar. It was love at first sight. In front of me were twenty yards of three shelves of the most wonderful bottles I could possibly imagine. Half of them I had never heard of before. * * * I settled on a Buddha's Hand Gin. Buddha and Gin rarely appear in the same sentence Never mind the same label on a bottle. I ordered it straight up. I went immediately to Nirvana. Forget the meditation and the austerities. The Buddha's Hand Gin was as good as a trip to the Himalayas. Buddha's Hand is an obscure citrus fruit that grows multiple protuberances the way some horseradishes do. It is golden and looks like a hand. Ergo the name. The Buddha's Hand Gin is a citrus tinged gin with an edge more like orange zest than like orange juice. The additional botanicals make it strong, attention grabbing, fruity and yet combative. I was absolutely fascinated. Note that Buddha's Hand Gin is only one of the many items they have to explore there. I am totally ready to do more exploring. * * * The kitchen at Obsidian is also of distinction. The savvy local guide I came with adored his Thai Curry Wood Fired Rings. I went with a Cheesy Bread. This is open-faced grilled cheese on a thick slice of bread the size of a shoebox, with a wonderful homemade tomato sauce on about 1/3 of it. It is the best cheese pizza you have ever had. It is what cheese pizza is supposed to be if you don't use the standard canned ingredients that institutional providers sell to Domino's. I was as in love with my cheese bread as I was with my citrus gin. * * * The company was also outstanding. Which is just as well because Obsidian is a social place. Lots of Leanderthals having a fine time in couples and groups. This is not a loner's loser bar. You know - the dark rooms with misfits drinking their sixth beer while watching TV. This is a good folks good times full-of-sunlight place. So you definitely want to come with good folks. * * * Good food, good bottles, good people.
