Sausage, cheese, and pistachio pizza with cream sauce
    Mike R.

Recently opened inside the new Barking Armadillo on Westinghouse, they're the food for the bar. Bahler makes good pizza and their crust is the right balance of crispy and chewy. Their recipes are a little different, giving you exposure to some interesting flavors (pistachio on pizza? Yes!). The problem? One size - too big for one. Two or more of you? Great option. By yourself, more than you need (even if you end up taking some home). Come on, guys, offer a smaller, personal size. We're not all trying to be sumo wrestlers.

Opening day and this place hits the spot, even with a giant crowd! Located in the same building as Barking Armadillo Social, with an order at the counter set-up. We got six pies, the Umbertina, Romeo, Godfather, Inferno, Margarita, and Wilbur. All were amazing honestly, with my favorites in order being the Romeo, Godfather, Wilbur, Inferno, Umbertina, and Margarita. We also got a house Italian salad which was good but needed more dressing. I didn't think any place held a candle to Bufalina Due, but this place comes REAL close. With this being three minutes from my sister's house, I can see it being a frequent stop when I visit her.

Wow Wow Wow! Had this pizza food truck when they were parked at Barking Armadillo Brewery one weekend recently. Wood-fired sourdough pizza that has a nice char on the bottom and crust with local ingredients. We had a difficult time choosing what pizza to try because so many of them sounded so good! There is a large menu of options to choose from (bonus for English nerds like me they're all named for literary favorites) and they range from regular flavor/styles to some oddball ones. We ended up choosing The Inferno (pepperoni, tomato sauce, pickled jalapeños, mozzarella, and hot honey). As someone who is only medium good at hot it was just a little much for me, but the honey adds a nice sweetness and helps curb the flames. My husband is a hot/spicy food fiend and this became a favorite for him immediately! Even it being spicy there is so much flavor from the local pepperoni and cheese. Staff was super friendly, up for a chat, and even asked where my husband got his new jacket. I immediately followed them on Instagram to be able to see where they will be parked in the future to try more. If you want to go...invite me with! because I think I could eat this everyday!

Lunch special - 2 of 3 - select beers, slice of cheese or pepperoni pizza or house or Caesar salad. Also happy hour special was $1 off select items. Bartender initially took our order but then shift changed and another person took over. She was covering tables in another area. Salad and pizza delivered at the same time. Pizza slice was NY style - very thin and cold be folded up to eat vs knife and fork. Decent amount of pepperoni which was tasty. I prefer a crispy pizza crust so found this awkward to eat. Knife and fork provided. House Salad was just ok. Black olives, mushrooms, cucumbers, shredded mozzarella and croutons clustered on top and lettuce underneath. Salads obviously premade. Mushrooms were dried out and slices of cucumbers had shriveled edges. Greek salad looked better with fresher ingredients but wasn't included in the lunch special. There was more variety in the overall menu but didn't have time for a lengthy lunch stop. Second server worked with prices and lunch special offerings with us. Beer was $7-10 per pint glass so lunch special at $10.99 w select beers is a good deal. Not a priority to go back between parking hassle and food was just ok.

It's a local mom and pop establishment from looking from the outside, but was confirmed clearly it was from staff. Not sure where I want to begin. I'll start with the food. I got the lunch special. 1 slice, 3 knots and a drink. They were "short stocked" on drinks so only had 3 choices. Beverage was in a bottle and was not cold. I was told they had no ice either. I got the mushroom and spinach slice. The toppings and sauce were very good however the crust was black and burnt on the bottom so I just picked off the toppings. The same with the garlic knots too. You can see in the photo too. The marinara dipping sauce was cold and was told they do not do warm dipping sauce. I do believe if the pizza and the knots were not burnt, they would have been enjoyable. I am not sure if management reads this but your staff does like you very much. However, you might want to let them know discussing other employees and past employees love lives, jail records, arrest records, making fun of someone's disabilities is not ok in the workplace let alone with customers in the restaurant. I learned wayyyyy too much about the "person" that just got fired and their age and why they were arrested and closing up your restaurant an hour early. I felt extremely uncomfortable having to listen to this!

Could not believe how good it was! The crust was thin and crisp, and the oil dripping from the bottom. And was told by someone on staff that the water comes from NY, and the recipe has not changed since before the mayor of Hutto took over the business. As I drove home, I struggled to save a piece for my wife to try, but I succeeded. And she was also pleasantly surprised. However, given that she was just in NYC a few days ago, she said it's not as good as the one she tried out there, but if she hadn't tried a slice in NYC recently, she would've said that this one is very good and reminiscent of NYC pizza. This is the first time we come really close. Prior to Anthony's Pizza, we tried Russo's in StoneHill, but this one is much better. Will definitely go back for more, with the family, either to go or eat-in. My only complaint is the price for one simple cheese slice is $4.00 + tax. A legit NYC slice in New York is not selling for $4.00, probably $2.50, but $4.00 is over the top. But if the water truly comes from NY, maybe I could be reasonable. Staff was friendly and informative. The place looked neat and clean.

Any beer connoisseur will understand the technique the demands and the workmanship that goes into creating draft beer and what I really love is I fell in love with the Hill country kolsch, it's a blend of a light beer so I prefer light beers like ultra or Miller so to me it taste like a more full flavored Miller light and what I really appreciate is that it's not like a heavy IPA so it allows me to free up space in my stomach so I can go for the killer pizza. Hands-down, one of the best cheese, breads, high-quality cheese crispy, crunchy cheese bread with what I really love are those crispy crunchy edges that are on the crust it's addictive. And then you're able to dip each cheese bread into that jalapeño ranch or that creamy queso. I'm telling you this right now their house made jalapeño ranch is like crack. They should bottle it and sell it if they decided to bottle it I would buy a bottle should I say I think it's better than Wingstop? Go try the pizzas as you can see. I ordered the works pizza we can see all the beautiful cuts of meats. All fresh meats, all beautifully individually, sliced fresh crunchy crust with melted cheese. Just a great bite. If you're a carnivore this is your pizza. I wanted to jazz things up and go for the honey bear pizza and I requested that they add white sauce as the base and then drizzle on top of the olive oil. I'm happy they made that pizza for me because you can taste the white sauce mixed with the olive oil and the nice salty shavings of prosciutto.

I may visit Obsidian Brewery time after time after time after time and never find out how their beer is. This is because a) They have an outstanding bar and b) They have an outstanding kitchen. For me, beer is a hardship beverage you drink when there is nothing else better available. When I go to a bar, I can sometimes be looking for mix-mastering. Usually I am looking for outstanding top of the line hard spirits. * * * When I walked into Obsidian, I looked at their bar. It was love at first sight. In front of me were twenty yards of three shelves of the most wonderful bottles I could possibly imagine. Half of them I had never heard of before. * * * I settled on a Buddha's Hand Gin. Buddha and Gin rarely appear in the same sentence Never mind the same label on a bottle. I ordered it straight up. I went immediately to Nirvana. Forget the meditation and the austerities. The Buddha's Hand Gin was as good as a trip to the Himalayas. Buddha's Hand is an obscure citrus fruit that grows multiple protuberances the way some horseradishes do. It is golden and looks like a hand. Ergo the name. The Buddha's Hand Gin is a citrus tinged gin with an edge more like orange zest than like orange juice. The additional botanicals make it strong, attention grabbing, fruity and yet combative. I was absolutely fascinated. Note that Buddha's Hand Gin is only one of the many items they have to explore there. I am totally ready to do more exploring. * * * The kitchen at Obsidian is also of distinction. The savvy local guide I came with adored his Thai Curry Wood Fired Rings. I went with a Cheesy Bread. This is open-faced grilled cheese on a thick slice of bread the size of a shoebox, with a wonderful homemade tomato sauce on about 1/3 of it. It is the best cheese pizza you have ever had. It is what cheese pizza is supposed to be if you don't use the standard canned ingredients that institutional providers sell to Domino's. I was as in love with my cheese bread as I was with my citrus gin. * * * The company was also outstanding. Which is just as well because Obsidian is a social place. Lots of Leanderthals having a fine time in couples and groups. This is not a loner's loser bar. You know - the dark rooms with misfits drinking their sixth beer while watching TV. This is a good folks good times full-of-sunlight place. So you definitely want to come with good folks. * * * Good food, good bottles, good people. And if you are feeling chipper, You can even have a homemade beer to celebrate.

The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Our server, Chelsey, was super bubbly and upbeat. My friend ordered a meatball and polenta appetizer as she was not feeling too hungry. We probably clocked 4-5 miles walking the Square and side streets, so I was ravenous. I ordered the Cesar salad and Italian sausage & salami pizza. The pizza was amazing! The Italian sausage was flavorful and well-prepared. The salami was thinly sliced and importantly, not greasy at all. At this juncture, we were pretty full, so we only ate two slices of the pizza.
