It's tucked in a corner of a side street so if you aren't aware that it exists, it's very easy to miss. It was adorable from the outside in. Plenty of tables and TVs prior to entering but it was a million degrees and no one was sitting outside. Once you enter, It's self seating with more TVs and a QR code menu. Definitely kid friendly as there were many there with parents either playing arcade games or watching sports. We were there solely for drinks and decided to grab one of the available board games-of course I won I'll definitely be back and am glad that I've found such a cute spot when in DT GT.

As a Bowling Alley, Mel's looks like it is first rate. The bowling alleys in Austin are fairly lame. As a place to throw strikes, spares and gutter balls, Mel's looks pretty good. * * * However the high quality of the bowling operation does not extend to the food operation. They have two primary bars/eating areas. It being the Fourth of July on "odd hours", one of the rooms was semi-closed. The room where they actually were serving customers was pretty gross. I went to sit at the bar, The bar at literally every single stool was filthy. There were old dishes that obviously had been sitting there for quite some time. Where there were no dishes, the bar was greasy with leftover food and spills. The tables were a little better but not by much. The bartender really didn't seem to care. She was chatting with a staffer. After the staffer left, she was just hanging out. * * * If a food establishment can not be counted on to clean the public areas, How can you be sure the kitchen is not filthy as well? I was out of there, to do my eating and drinking elsewhere. * * * If you go to Mel's to bowl, Check out the food areas before you order any food from your bowling lane. There are areas to play pickle ball, soccer, volleyball and even ice hockey. There's an arcade and adults-only bar indoors and several outdoor seating areas, both open and covered. The entire place is very well lit at nighttime. Toddlers and younger kids can enjoy at the playscape with slides. You can grab some food from one of the food trucks, drinks from the outdoor bar and have a great time hanging out. Some of the outdoor seats also have heaters or a firepit.
