After my last poor review for Willie's they reached out to me and invited me to give them another try; which I did tonight. My experience today was a lot better. I did a momma/daughter outing and we got the crawfish, shrimp, and crab boil. We enjoyed the crab and shrimp, but learned that we don't care for crawfish very much. We finished our meal with the bread pudding. It was so good, and I WILL return just for the dessert. The manager (Caleb) came to check on us and our waitress was appropriately attentive. Afterwards, we went shopping and then we returned to Willie's to get take out for my husband. He enjoyed his icehouse burger and loaded fries. I agree that it was delicious. We, also, tried the brisket Mac 'n cheese bites. This was not our favorite, but the dipping sauce was yummy. This is a different approach to the other Icehouses I've been to. You order at the counter and receive a number then a server delivers your food. You can order additional things through your server as they check in throughout your meal. I was traveling and stopped there for dinner. I tried the brisket queso blanco, Texas Fried Chicken Club, and the Old Fashioned. Service was personable and food was delivered quickly. The ordering concept is a little different and admittedly not my favorite way to order. You must stand in line for a cashier up front who takes your order and gives you you ticket. But wait, you don't pay yet in case there is something else that you want while dining. After dining, you settle up with your server. The southern food was really good. I ordered Country fried steak fingers and my wife had the gulf shrimp. The shrimp had that classic gulf flavor and the hush puppies tasted almost like Thanksgiving stuffing. So, good! For an appetizer, we had a big basket of onion bits. The onion bits were like onion rings but chunks of onion instead. In addition, the menu has lot's of other great southern dishes to choose from. I just don't know why anyone would go here more than once. Let's cover the top things: name notwithstanding this is a burger place, not a barbecue spot. There are no ribs, brisket or sausage plates to pick from so don't confuse this place with barbecue. I ordered the brisket hamburger figuring that way I would get some brisket; there was some chopped beef on top of my (undercooked) hamburger but I wouldn't call it brisket because that would be an insult to brisket. I got one side and yes I could have played it safe and gone with fries but I was in a BBQ mood so chose the cole slaw (I first asked for potato salad but was told they don't offer that - what the hell kind of ice house in Texas doesn't have potato salad?). In a word the cole slaw was - forgettable. Mushy, no tang and not sure what all was in it. The burger crappy. The brisket was brisket in name only; it bore no resemblance to actual brisket. The burger, slaw and two (small) draft beers set me back $28. WTF? There are some tv screens with sports stuff on but no sound, so kind of pointless. I will say the service at the counter and by my server was top notch. The people were friendly and fast and I don't have anything negative to say about them at all. But for $28 you gotta do better - a LOT better - than what I got today. read more

If I could give a negative score, I would. My boyfriend ordered a hamburger, and I got a grilled cheese. Very easy order. They brought out a cheeseburger (-he asked for no cheese for a reason). My grilled cheese is pictures. A slice of American cheese on toasted bread. It took 17 minutes for my grilled cheese and 27 minutes for a new hamburger. I really try and be patient, but our entire family was finished eating before we got our food. When i asked the staff, she said she was splitting the burger and that was taking so long. ? I think we came here on the wrong night lol the line was out the door because there was a softball fundraiser today. We still waited and got in and out in decent time but I took a star away for that reason. I only give five stars if I feel the food and dining experience is exceptional. Willi's Cheeseburger and Chicken Fried Chicken were our entree choices tonight. Both were very tasty and would recommend both. The side salad as a side option was decent sized and greens were very fresh. Mashed potatoes were favorable and weren't drowned in gravy. The does that came with the burger were nicely cooked and hot when served. Side order of onion rings were also delish especially dipped in ranch dressing. It is Crawdad season, and Willie's has the mudbugs! Nearly half of my 2 pound order, were ginormous large! Usually don't see them that big until later in the season. $10.99 a pound was slightly high, bit they cooked them perfectly. No dead or smooshy ones at all. Easy to peel and firm tails. After asking my spouse what she wanted to eat, I could not find listed anywhere a restaurant called , "Something Good", so we came to Willy's instead. We ordered the macaroni/brisket bites, the chicken bites and I ordered the blackened shrimp tacos. The macaroni balls were described and the best! The chicken bites were plentiful and filling. The shrimp Tacos come with two, but I ordered a third thinking they would be street taco size. I was wrong, these were full size tacos loaded with delicious "Prawns" not shrimp. So I ate two and picked the prawns out of the third one. The prawns could have used some more blackend spices but they were cooked perfectly and tasted delicious! The only issue were the two sides. Went for lunch today. We have a new Willie's opening in our home town and wanted to give this location a try knowing that the new location will be packed for a few months. The quantity of food was very large. I thought the taste could have been better. Everything was good and was probably more like a 4.5. The service was very efficient. I am not sure why it took me so long to check out Willie's Ice House - what was I am waiting for?? I was craving a burger and onion, rings and willies knocked it out of the park. Warm toasted bun, scrumptious, burger, and big, huge crispy onion rings... Yum... Yum! The burger had great flavor, my only complaint would be I would have loved it to have been cooked, medium, rare, rather than the well done, but I was not given the choice, apparently old burgers are cooked to this temperature Unique concept, you order at the counter, and then go find your table... A staff member will bring your food to you and help with drink refills. You pay for your order with the server. Overall, I enjoyed it and will be coming back again. My dining companion also enjoyed her salad and said her and her husband would be coming back very soon. They live too close not to come and dine on a regular basis. If you have not check this place out, you need to very soon.
