Must must must have their mozzarella sticks. Burgers was good. Fun energetic ambience. Great service for food. Tots were good but surprisingly I didn't like the fries maybe because they were little cold. And with this Cold weather they started surging chilli. They don't take reservations but they are quick at their service. Waitress responded to every thing with smile. I definitely recommend this place. (I was there for lunch with my team, so could drink beer but this place has good beer and pool options to hangout with ur gang in evening).

The food was good me and my family all got wings and fries and it was the 8 dollar special witch made it pretty cheap for 4 people. Our waiter was very nice so good service. The order took about 10 minutes so me and my mom played at the pool tables during the wait. Great time and good food

Delicious food! We weren't even drinking and still enjoyed the bar food so that should say a lot. The menu has a really great variety for a bar. The service was pretty good, friendly staff and quick turnaround on our order. Randy's is definitely old school in that the air is smoky, it's dark and dingy but in a cool, retro sort of way. Not so sure how clean it is though. Our table wasn't totally clean and from what I could see in the kitchen it seemed like an expected bar kitchen. Overall pleasantly surprised by the food here! The hangover burger was great (even not hungover) and the chicken tenders tasted homemade which was a great surprise.

Awesome food and service . The size of the food for price is reasonable. It's a hole in the wall worth stopping and getting your fill.

It's a cute nostalgic space with old-timey instruments displayed in the corners and has a really unique feel. The wait staff is friendly and funny and very knowledgeable about the menu. Personally, I've had the big thick burger and the pulled pork sandwich. Both are delicious. Others have had the chicken fried steak, the lasagna, and everyone I've gone there with loved it. Great comfort food and delicious pie for dessert. Try it, you'll like it!

The fried green tomatoes are great here but for me, almost everything else was a disappointment. Not as kid-friendly as you'd expect. It pains me to leave such a low rating (and I rarely do) but this was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences I've had in a while. And it didn't have to be that way so hopefully my review can grab someone's attention. This place has so much potential because it's in such a cool location -- the band hall of an old high school (fun decor and cool nostalgic vibes). I had really high hopes for this restaurant but it let me down. Here's what went wrong. THE FOOD: First and foremost, the food was disappointing... except for their vegetable appetizers. The fried green tomatoes were fantastic. Nailed it in terms of texture and flavor. My husband and I were both surprised by how good they were. Their Brussels sprouts appetizer was really good as well. After that, it was all downhill. I had the Mom's Meatloaf with two sides: Cowboy Caviar and green beans. The meatloaf wasn't bad but it wasn't exactly a loaf -- it was like meatballs connected together? I didn't taste the bacon in the tomato sauce and the portion felt tiny -- same size as the sides. The sides were a real letdown. The green beans tasted like they came straight from a Jolly Green Giant can. The Cowboy Caviar (which I usually love) was so bland. It was like they just poured beans and corn and pepper and onion in and that's it. I didn't taste any seasoning. Cowboy Caviar needs to have that zing (many simple recipes use Italian salad dressing). Moving onto my husband's dish which was probably the worst part. His tomato soup tasted like marinara sauce but we were hoping the filet mignon would deliver. It was simply not good. It wasn't as tender as filet mignon needs to be -- it was chewy. It did seem to be cooked as requested (medium rare) but it didn't taste good and seemed flavorless -- almost as if the meat was poor quality. Now, I know that filet mignon is a much more mild tasting cut and less flavorful than a ribeye for instance, but still, something felt very off with this steak. Neither of us enjoyed it and that's a bummer (especially at that price point). KIDS: Usually restaurants like this one are more kid-friendly so I was a bit surprised. Our kids are 3.5YO and 2YO. They brought a booster for my youngest. It had no straps at all (which I'm not even complaining about because those straps are broken at literally every restaurant). We were in a booth so it worked okay mostly. What I'm unhappy about is the lack of coloring options and kids menus. We were not brought any crayons and coloring paper upon seating so we inquired. The waitress said she'd look and ended up coming back with crayons and some paper placemats to doodle on? I respect the ingenuity but I was confused. They have crayons on hand but they don't offer them to the kids? What's the deal with that? They didn't have a kids menu printed anywhere and the waitress just told us the offerings out loud. So is there an official kids menu or not? I'd like to be able to see the prices as well. Also a bit perplexing. We went ahead and ordered one grilled cheese for the kids to share and I'm glad because it was big but also not very good. The bread was too dense so it was more of a bread sandwich. My kids weren't that into it. Almost forgot -- the fries that came with the grilled cheese were actually very good (got to give credit where it's due). TIME: Our food took forever. It wasn't a fun wait -- the kids were getting super restless. The waitress stopped by a couple times to tell us that "our food is just around the corner." Even though it ended up being untrue -- I appreciate her checking in.

Got menus and waited about ten minutes for someone to take our order. Finally asked a table bus to get our waitress. She comes to take our order. Does not know what a chive is, or a scallop. Wife was having a rare steak with grilled veggies. She asked to substitute the baked potato for extra grilled veggies. Almost positive we got billed for them as a side, but we will never know. I never got to see the bill. More on that later. The meals arrive. My wife's rare steak is cooked to a shoe leather state. As in burnt like an asteroid. The veggies are fine. Waitress never asked if everything was ok when she brought the food. My shrimp and scallops w loaded baked potato wo chives is delivered as shrimp and oysters w a loaded potato w chives. I said nothing about the chives. After eating my shrimp and most of my potato, once again the busboy to the rescue. He gets the waitress who comes over and offered to just take the scallops off the bill. I asked for my scallops. She is gone a long time. She returned and asked if I wanted fried or grilled scallops. Fired I replied and she disappeared. We hear a commotion in the kitchen and someone tells the waitress to come get the oysters. She comes over with a plate and uses her bare hands to take food off my plate. Wtf? She takes them and leaves. Then she and other wait staff are sitting in an unoccupied area looking at their tickets, and watching soccer on tv. About 15 minutes later my freshly fried scallops arrive. My wife has been done for 20 minutes. I finish the scallops and waitstaff is no where to be seen. My wife goes to the car. Busboy to the rescue again. He finds and sends the waitress, who is watching tv now, to the table. She asks if I am ready to pay . I am. She has to go make the bill. As she approaches again I am getting my card out and she she says "paying by card?" And takes the card from my hand wo leaving the bill and disappears. I never got to see it. A few minutes later she drops the card and card receipts on the table. No waiting, no questions, no thank you, no explanations just leaves the area. Christy did not get a tip. All our previous visits had been great. This one sucked. Addendum The following day I noticed the young waitress had decided she was entitled to give herself a tip from my bank account. I brought this to the manager's attention. She refunded the amount the young lady took on her own. I feel her future is short. The manager was very professional about it. I can appreciate the position this put her in and how she handled it. I would give her 5 stars if I could.

I think Chicken Fried Steak is one of the best defining dishes of Southern cuisine. I think Chicken…read moreFried Steak is an item that has kept the people of the Southern United States together regardless of interests, jobs, intelligence, and opinions. It is a unifying meal of blue-collared and white-collared people alike. It is a food that unifies the vast cultures of the south. There is no debate when there is a Chicken Fried Steak. Soul food and southern food are so severely important to people who were raised in the south because the overall feeling of those cuisines is that it feels like their Grandma is cooking dinner. Now if you look at my Yelp profile picture for a fraction of a second and maybe stereotype a little, you can accurately assume that my Grandma's cooking would fit in the latter and you would maybe wonder if my grandmother knows what seasoning is. If you have had her chili, you would say no. The famous Texan Cafe & Pie Shop in Hutto is a classic Southern diner that is always a perfect pick-me-up meal and is a truest staple of the area. When I first visited Hutto before moving I looked for places to try, and the abundant and sheer quantity of reviews for Texan Cafe made it clear that I had to try it. That was just over a year ago, and I still remember parking my car in the lot across the street and walking into the cozy diner with wood chairs and booths, red tablecloths, and so much decor on the walls it might be a museum, and I felt right about moving to Hutto. I was seated immediately and almost instantly ordered the Chicken Fried Steak smothered with white gravy, of course, with sides of Fried Okra and Mashed Potatoes. It was not long before the beautiful plate hit my table, and I destroyed everything on that plate. When I thought it was over, I was handed the dessert menu that was two full rows worth of pie and other options. I was mesmerized by the length of it and was overwhelmed by the options. I texted my parents to tell them and suddenly I was going back to San Antonio with slices on slices worth of pie for them to have. When my parents came up to help move me in, they wanted to go to the Texan. They were impressed with how great the meal was alongside the pies. Pies that they bought extra of to take back with them to San Antonio. When I started my job, the first meal they took us new hires to was the Texan. I tried their Blue Plate Special and found out that Chicken Fried Pork Chops exist and fell in love with that. When my brother came and visited meeting my parents and me in Hutto, we went to the Texan. We enjoyed their appetizers and everyone had to have a slice of pie. Options for everyone. When a friend came and visited, she took a solo trip to the Texan while I was at work then told me she took the best nap of her life after. My buddy and I decided to go randomly one day after work to try their Hot Pie with Brandy Sauce. That thing is a tank and is worth a visit to try alone. What a sweet creation. When my girlfriend visited me in Hutto, I took her to the Texan and she will randomly text me about how much she misses the pie. I try to get her a slice every time she comes and visits. It is her favorite thing. It is clear to see why it is a favorite to so many because everyone I have taken to the Texan has left a fan wanting to come back. I brought my grandparents home a full Blueberry pie from the Texan Cafe which my grandma told me "was the best I have even since I was a little girl. Not too sweet with a great crust. Just right. A blueberry pie is my favorite." I know this review is less of a review and more of a collection of vignettes of many stories built inside the walls of the Texan Cafe, but that is what is so beautiful about southern hospitality and southern diners. That is why there is so much decor about the extensive history of Texan Cafe and the culture of Hutto on the walls. I went back this afternoon for the first time in a short while, but I find myself continuously impressed by the quality of the food, the efficiency as a whole, and just how welcoming everyone is inside. Their pies are just truly next level. Today, I went for the Chicken Fried Pork Chop Blue Plate Special which is truly heaven sent, potato salad, fried okra, and a slice of their cherry pie. It is a meal you feel blessed to eat and a restaurant you love supporting because of it. Every pie I have had at the Texan is better than any other pie I have eaten. They could be a full time bakery and still be the monument of Hutto. It just happens they have food that warms your heart too. RIYL: Grandma's cooking if it was not dry

Another old time, home cooking type diner, with generous portions, fast friendly service, and small town country ambiance. The Hop Queen got the schnitzel, which was a solid, stick to your ribs choice. The two sides, homemade mashed potatoes, and the squash were almost like déjà vu flavour, back when we were kids. I got the 4 Alarm burger, and it was tasty, spicy and filling. Great onion rings, which I am partial too, were nice and crunchy, held up well (no "bite and pull all the onion out problems"). Some of the menu can be a little confusing. There are some items that come with two sides that do not mention that. And with the burgers you have to pay for sides separately. We opted for a chips and salsa, meatloaf (with greens and mashed potatoes as sides), a burger (fries cost extra), and chicken strips with broccoli and another side that I forgot. Chips and salsa were bad, but salsa needed a little salt. Greens were not fresh, potatoes were bland--gravy not good. Meatloaf wasnt bad. Burger was just okay. Chicken strips were just okay as well. Looks like they have a beer garden outside and being that it is a German/Texan fusion type spot maybe they do some time of events/entertainment...not sure. Would be interesting though. The food was mediocre and bland and the service not that great. They charge a fee to use card--but also do not give the coin portion of your change--which I kinda feel is another fee just to pay cash. Last I checked they still make nickels, dimes, and quarters. This spot is a little out of the way so I don't think that we would return.
