Best chicken fried chicken I've ever had. Got to try it. It was thick and juicy with great gravy. Cold beer was a plus.

My SH and I enjoyed our lunch at Circleville Store. If you haven't been before, don't worry...they're actually open, regardless of how it looks from the outside. Once you walk in the door, you'll find a rustic, western bar-themed space, that's actually pretty appealing. While it was "seat yourself" at lunchtime, the service was very prompt and friendly. The beer on tap was fairly mainstream, with a bit of craft brew character. I didn't check the cold case for bottled options, but there were additional choices. It would have been nice to have a beer list. Prices for draft beer (at least at lunchtime when we went) were very reasonable, and the Karbach Bock draft that I had was delicious. Foodwise, we had the chicken-fried steak and pork chop entrees. Both were very generous portions, and came with a choice of two sides. The CFS was enjoyable...not mind-blowing but good. The mashed potatoes that I had were very tasty, and the green beans were...basic, cook 'em all day green beans. My SH's pork chops were tasty and very nicely seasoned. She found them to be a bit heavy-handed with the pepper, but I thought they were yummy. They were standard, bone-in chops - not big, thick ones, but a nice amount of meat for lunch. The crinkle fries that she ordered with them were basically unseasoned, uneaten, and wouldn't be worth ordering again, but her salad was generous and tasty. The prices were also very (2025) reasonable for a very nice amount of food. Circleville Store is definitely worth a visit if you're in the neighborhood! read more

Quite easily the best burger in the area. Fresh beef, hand formed, hand pressed thin but still a good texture. Wide patty, wide bun, fresh vegetables. What a burger used to be before fast food. Fries or tots are extra on the side. Side salads are also available. Eat in or take out. Easy access at Hwy 29 and Hwy 95 just north of Taylor and east of Georgetown. A great stop to/from Granger Lake or the drag races in Little River-Academy. I didn't take pictures because I ate it before I thought about it. :) read more

Very casual local place for home cooked foods. Entrees are good but slightly pricey - the sides are meh and can become very pricey when alternative sides are added - upcharge of $2.99 for onion ring substitute which conveys into 4 onion rings at a cost of $.75 per ring. The service is good. So for $20+ per plate for chicken fried steak and rings - Texas Roadhouse is a much better option for good food and quantity. read more

First time visitor, was meeting someone from Taylor who recommended this place. Very friendly staff and patrons, who suggested items from the menu when they found out I was a first timer. Couldn't go wrong with the smoked pork steak and cabbage. The pork steak was enormous and should have stopped at half. Veggies were very good and my guest said the hamburger was very good. Decided to give this place a try while visiting friends in Taylor on a Saturday night. The place was fairly busy and almost all of the tables were full. They had specials on a board inside with sides that weren't on the menu, so I went with the special that day, chicken fried steak with sides of green beans and cabbage. My friend had the hamburger steak with fries, with an additional side of fries. We got take out, and when I tried to pay, the girl at the counter tried to overcharge me on the bill until I said that that didn't seem right. "Oh," she responded, "I charged you twice for the hamburger steak." Okay then. We asked a different bartender what the fries were like, and he said, "so-so." Hmm. Now I'm starting to get worried. He later said it was his first day working there. On the way home, I tried some fries, which were indeed "so-so," essentially unseasoned, very bland, and the portions that came with the food seemed pretty small. But when I got home and dig into the chicken fried steak - that was a different story. First of all, it's a big portion, slightly crisp breading, juicy, flavorful, just damn tasty with the white gravy. The green beans and cabbage, though, came out of a can somewhere and seemingly had salt dumped on them, and again, were very small portions, like the fries. My friend enjoyed the (huge) hamburger steak with brown gravy - decent quality hamburger meat, though the presentation was kinda off. It says on the menu that it came with grilled onions but I just saw two irregularly shaped slices of onion resting on top of the patty, which just seemed strange to me. In short - entrees were great, sides were highly disappointing. Not a whole lot of choices for food out in the Taylor area, but it was worth a try. read more

The food was good and the Service was good. However I was disappointed in their complete disregard for COVID safety. No masks worn by Servers, kitchen staff, or the owners. No attempt to social distance. Salt and pepper shakers and a roll of paper towels on the table. Drinks refilled using the same glass. If you are worried about exposure, don't go there. read more

Located just north of Taylor, Tx on Highway 95 in the no stop sign town of Circleville. This is the quintessential beer, bait, ammo, hardware, hamburger, grocery, and steak hole in the wall. In existence for over 100 years they cater to every good ol boy around. Some of the best burgers, fries, and ribeyes in the area. Grab an chair with the local farmers and order a burger so you can taste the history. It's a place where they probably haven't cleaned the grill in a while and you don't want them to. BBQ is served everyday. Burgers, Steaks and the rest of the menu is only served on Friday (lunch & dinner) and Saturday (lunch only I think). Nestled in between two small towns just east of IH 35 its recently been taken over by a Super Friendly Husband/Wife team and after just a short year or so they have managed to really make a name for their themselves. They recently updated and enlarged the outside back area of the store to accommodate large crowds for live Texas Country Music on the weekends and from what I understand still plan on making many more improvements! I really want to like this place. The food is okay and the staff is friendly, but the smoke is a killer. (Literally, lol.) Every time we've gone to eat or drink, we end up cutting our visit short because the smoke is giving me a terrible asthma attack. This place used to be nasty. It was cleaned up a couple of years ago by new owners and reopened with friendlier service. The food is basic. I had a burger and it was alright. I have no complaints. The setting is authentic Texas old school. It is still as it was 50 years ago. If the rustic authentic Texas feel is your thing, you will like this place. If you are looking for award winning food, keep driving. Did not like the gambling machines or the people they attract. read more
