Don't blink or you'll miss it. I drove past because it looks like a residential property. Quaint little place, is around the side. It's like eating at grandma's house. Mismatched plates and display of teacup. Only about 8 small tables inside. There is a nice patio area which is 2-3 times bigger than the indoor area. Food was great! I ordered lavender lemonade, my sister ordered hibiscus water. Both are refreshing and not too sweet. I chose waffles with bacon and added a scrambled egg. Fabulous choice if I say so myself. Egg was well seasoned. Waffle came with berries & whipped cream. No need for syrup. The waffles were close to those I ate while in Belgium. Dense but not heavy, nice crunch of sugar. My sister said her crepe was great. Savory with ham and egg. Only down side is there were flies buzzing around. But they do have sinning things for the table to shoo them away. read more

This is such a cute little brunch spot! I've been meaning to try this place out for a while now and glad I finally did. The restaurant is not really noticeable as it's tucked in the back streets of Round Rock but once you get to the location, there are signs directing you down the path to a back area. It gives off an old timey cottage vibe which I adored. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. It was a lovely day so we opted for outdoor which was this artsy garden area. I'll admit that on the day we went, service was a tad slow but I appreciated the sign on the door giving us the heads up that they were understaffed for the day. Also since it was a nice day out, I didn't really mind. As for the food, I initially had wanted to try their salteñas (Bolivian empanadas) but sadly learned that they only have those on Fridays. Instead I ordered their Quiche Poblano and Lavender Lemonade. Let me just say, the quiche was so incredible that I had a hard time holding myself back from ordering a second plate of it. The lemonade was refreshing and had the perfect amount of lavender as well. All in all, a super lovely spot. What a cute little place! An old Round Rock house, turned into a charming French/Argentinian restaurant. Art for purchase adorns the walls along with birdhouses of every kind which along with the limited amount of seating inside and in their garden, makes for a pretty quaint yet whimsical restaurant. I could easily see myself having tea and pie here but for my first visit, it was all about the breakfast. I have heard tales of their liege waffles and though I was tempted by them, I knew I would be able to snag some bites from my nieces. For me, it was all about the croque madam croissant. It was incredibly flaky and buttery and the egg on top was cooked just perfectly. The bites of waffle I had were sugary and crunchy and indeed, did not need any syrup, though I would've liked to try it! I unfortunately did not get to try any of their famous pies but that's what next time is for! We got lucky in that we came sort of in-between breakfast and lunch, and somehow got the one table that was left but once we sat down, there were at least 4 other groups who wanted to be seated and had to settle for the chilly garden tables. Though I very much enjoyed my meal and the ambiance, I will say, if you are hungry, maybe go somewhere else, or just be prepared to order two meals/snatch food from your nieces when they aren't watching. I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh and tasteful everything was. It was a beautiful day and I sat outside under an umbrella. If you go, park behind Papi's instead of across the street at the bank. I was praying I didn't get towed! The construction is still going on. My daughter and I had lunch at Papi's Pies on a recent Thursday. The weather was perfect to sit outdoors in the shade. There is also seating indoors. Based on previous reviews, the menu has changed somewhat and leans toward French bistro in style. The restaurant had a sign up indicating they were short staffed, and it appeared as if there were only 2 people running things. Since it was not crowded during our visit, there wasn't a significant wait. Had the place been full, anything cooked to order could take a while. We ordered 2 crepes. The crepes tasted good and seemed to be made using fresh ingredients. There was a cherry tomato garnish. My daughter had a lavender lemonade, which was slightly sweetened. Portion sizes are not generous, and pricing is on the high side given those portions. Transport yourself to a quaint English cottage complete with its own garden when you enter Papi's Pies. It's a little hidden from the road which made it even more magical to eventually find the restaurant sign peeking out. The ambiance is casual and feels like you're at grandma's cozy home for an afternoon iced tea and lunch. We sat at a shaded area outside and it was perfect. I had the chilaquiles and the chipotle sauce it came with was perfect and as a spicy food lover the dish had a good amount of kick. 10/10 dish. Tried the croque madam and waffle and all were 10/10. High quality ingredients, perfectly seasoned, texture of the waffle was crispy and tartlets were all grilled to toasty goodness. The chef pays high attention to detail so don't be fooled by their humble cozy appearance. Oh and they brew their iced teas in house and the unsweetened peach one is AMAZING. This is such an adorable and inviting spot in round rock and definitely worth a visit. What really makes me give this a 5/5 is just the charm of the whole place. You can see the love & care of the family restaurant as the owners are the ones serving you and explaining how to properly eat a Bolivian salteña as they did in Bolivia. It's warm, inviting, and has a cottage feel. Truly a lovely place to enjoy breakfast and stay a while! The menu is a mix of European, Bolivian, Mexican comfort foods, reflecting the owners backgrounds. We ordered the chicken salteña, cherry blossom tea, a few quiches, cherry pie. Everything was very good, I particularly really enjoyed the hot tea on a chilly day and the Florentine quiche. I'd love to come back to try some of the other menu items. I give the food and service 5 stars. It was delicious and everyone was nice. They have a lovely small outdoor eating area as well as indoor. The one thing I cannot get over is how ridiculously horrible their water smells. We ate here 5 years ago an I gagged when I tried drinking the water and had honestly forgotten about it until they gave us water. It isn't their glasses because our kid got served in a disposable cup and it was just as horrid. Something is majorly up with their water. It kinda ruined the enchanted experience. This is a favourite spot for my wife and I. It's small and tucked away, just as we like it. The place is run out of a small cottage-like house, and it feels like you're around at your grandparent's house for food and drink. It's also just a minutes walk from the Round Rock's actual Round Rock location, so you could kill two birds with one stone :) The people are really nice, and the Saltenas are great; they remind us of Pasties from our homeland of England. Think of them as a baked empanada. If you decide to have one, you have to wait 20 minutes for them, as they bake them there. Hint: They're worth the wait. My current fave thing to eat is their Spanish Cheesecake; light, fluffy, and creamy. So good! They also sell whole pies to go, so if you need to feed a crew, they got you. The Chocolate Cream and Coconut pies are legit! When they're busy, it can take a long time to get served. That'd be the only downside of the place. Go. Eat. Drink. read more

I love Papi's Pies and I have been going there for years. Today's food experience didn't disappoint. My poblano quiche was delectable and my husband's croque mosieur was tasty. The chilaquiles were fine, sauce was tasty but the tortilla chips (homemade), were overcooked, brown, and very thick. We were there when it was about 90F outside and we realized the great need they have for cooling fans, specially considering that getting our order served took them over one hour! The tea refills didn't come often enough, considering the heat, and water was not offered either when we first sat down. When we finally got a tea refill it didn't have ice, and when they brought the ice, we had drunk the tea and there was no other refill offered to us. Overall, food was very good, but the facilities could use some TLC or upgrade to make their pretty patio pleasant, taking into account Texas temperatures. The staff could definitely be trained better to serve guests better and more efficiently. I wish it would have been a better experience since my husband and I were there to celebrate our anniversary, but at least we got a quiet table, with nice music. Funny note, this was my husband's first visit to this restaurant and he nicknamed it "Papi's Purgatory" because of the combination of the heat and the service experience mentioned above. The made a joke saying that he felt like Tantalus when they finally served us some of the food but didn't bring utensils for us to eat... ha ha ha! read more

Directions UPDATE: If approaching northbound (e.g., from McNeil) don't turn left onto Round Rock Ave., continue on the service drive toward Sam Bass Rd. Instead of turning left at the light, you can take the left turnaround to get onto the southbound side and take the next right (Sunset Drive, just past the bank) and one more right to get to it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think I was looking for pumpkin empanadas when I found it years ago, but I discovered something better--Bolivian salteñas. It's now one of my favortie food spots in Austin. As I've reduced the meat, I've appreciated the variety of vegetarian options on their menu. My favorite menu item is now the Huitlacoche Crêpe--a little spicy; a lot of tasty. ;) I still pick up a few frozen portobello mushroom salteñas to store in my freeze for a warm breakfast or a wholesome backup meal later in the week or month. I am looking forward to eating their side salad again, once these braces come off...one of the few salads I've ever ordered intentionally. The place is cute, bright and comfortable. I enjoy coming here to read a book outside after basketball or when I have an afternoon free, and it's also one of my go-to recommendations for a spot to have a nice convo with friends. I miss this amazing tiger painting they had up once, but the art on the walls is swapped out regularly. My palette continues to expand to want more savory things, but Papi's Pies pumpkin pie is still one of my favorite deserts of the fall and early winter. I also like their blackberry pie, apple pie, and cherry pies. I'm a fruit pie person, but I dislike most of the popular flavors, except apple. This place is amazing for that because they usually have at least three fruit pies, so I'm rarely out of luck if my sweet tooth is callin'. Their pie crust is light and a bit toasty. Most pumpkin pies are dominated by the taste of sugar, but their pumpkin pie is a standout for me because as an actual spiced pie. The consistency is on the thicker side, so it's a pretty satisfying slice too. One last thing: Don't know if they'll reinstate the bring your own containers policy with COVID actually still being a thing. It was a big win with me when they had this policy. We really liked Papi's Pies, so I hate to say anything negative about it (but I will a little further down). First the good...the food was delicious, and very artfully prepared. I had the smoked salmon sandwich, pretty much what you'd find on a bagel at most places. Here it was served open-faced on a tasty roll. Lunch was finished off with a slice of cherry pie, which was house-baked and very tasty. Portions on everything (except may be pie) weren't particularly generous, and price/value ratio could have been higher, but there was enough food to satisfy. The ambiance was what I'd call "shabby chic", very cute, and something that looks family-owned. Lots of vegetation outside with a large patio area. As others have noted, inside dining is very limited, with around 8 smallish tables. When full, it's pretty noisy inside too. As far as the "not so good"... when we arrived, there was a sign on the door noting that they were short-staffed that day, and it was certainly true. Our server was friendly, but clearly overwhelmed by having to serve the whole restaurant (about 8 tables), and apparently inexperienced. Service was a bit slow, but definitely confused at times, with questions about orders being directed to the wrong tables, no silverware and no napkins. One other example was that I ordered wine (which she was too young to serve herself), and asked for it several times during the meal process, and it never came (although it was still on the tab when we went to pay, even though we'd finally asked it to be removed).
