My friends and I stopped here for lunch during a roadtrip from Norcal to Joshua Tree.The first thing i noticed about this place is that the parking is packed with cars! Always a good sign when trying a new place. The prices here are reasonable and the portions are huge. I got the Eggs Benedict which came with a generous portion of potatoes. I love this place! I have two out of town friends that demand we go here every time they visit! My usual meal is Lonnie's hashbrowns with an over medium egg and hollandaise sauce. This trip, I got the Lonnie's pastrami sandwich with Lonnie's hashbrowns. Apparently Lonnie holds the key to my heart! The sandwich was open faced on a roll with pickles and mustard. The pastrami was not overly fatty and had a great crisp! The Lonnie hashbrowns were as good as ever, filled with onions, bacon, and cheese!! How did we come to eat here? Groupon of course. Was it worth it? Nope. Other than the waitress, who was outstanding, the food was mostly forgettable. The chicken fried steak. Flavorless, breaded crust on a thinly pounded steak. The gravy, thick and tasteless too. The side of green beans with bacon, boiled beyond belief. Flavor? Fogettaboutit. What was supposed to be real mashed potatoes...you guessed it...really bland and overwhipped so it was gooey. The waitress galantly offered to substitute it, so I chose hash browns. Strike out again. Cooked on an old, greasy grill, it was permeated with stale grease. I didn't have the heart to tell her. Mr. B's cup of clam chowder. Nah. Bland. The fish and chips...Friday's special, the fish was beautifully moist and plump, but the crust too oily. The chips, ordinary, nothing to rave about. What did I like? My crispy iceberg salad, with one half of a grape sized tomato, loaded with shredded cheese and a decent thousand island dressing. Tough to find parking. I persuaded my husband to come here this morning for brunch, especially since I had a nice Groupon certificate for this restaurant. We had previously come here about 1 year ago, but didn't get to eat because the place was about to close. This time - we came around 1030-11am and sat immediately at the bar. It's open seating at the bar, but if you wanted a table - the wait was at least 15-20 minutes. :) Take your pick! We ordered: (1) Steak & Eggs (slab of NY steak & 2 eggs). Each entree comes with your choice of hashbrowns or country potatoes AND biscuit & gravy, pancake, or toast. I ordered my steak "medium" with over-easy eggs, biscuit + gravy & country potatoes. When the order came out, the portion size was HUGE. I had a big slab of NY steak, grilled to medium-rare, and 2 over-easy eggs + country potatoes -- all on one plate. My biscuit + gravy came on a separate plate, of which I didn't even get to eat any since I was already too full from my main breakfast entree! Even with my husband pick off my plate. The gravy was also a bit too thick / rich for me -- I prolly should have gotten the pancake instead, although I saw how big the pancake was too, humongous! 3.5 stars for the taste/flavor -- maybe push it up to 4 stars because of the portion size. (2) Chicken fried steak & Eggs (huge slab of battered chicken fried steak + 2 eggs). My husband ordered this because he saw some good reviews of the chicken fried steak on Yelp...although he ended up liking my entree better. His chicken fried steak came as a huge slab...as he said it was proper bakersfield portions (almost the size of the plate itself, and it sat on top of a layer of gravy). Too much gravy!!!! It was so rich / thick ...whatever happened to the type of gravy that's used during Thanksgiving? :( My husband got 2 eggs over-easy with hash browns and toast. :) I think he enjoyed his meal though, and ended up taking half of his meal home because it was a lot of food. We both remarked "Oh wow, that's huge" when the food came out...the waitress chuckled and said "we don't do small here." SERIOUSLY! If you're into big portions, then this place is for you, lol ...definitely can't go wrong with that. We are definitely a fan of this place... We stopped here on our way to Yosemite. It is an older place, but large inside. It has counter seating, tables and booths available. The decor is very eclectic and country. There are some waitresses that are attentive and a few that aren't, hey as long as we get the ones that are attentive, we're good. The food is very good, and good portions. Even knowing we would not be able finish everything we will be ordering after looking at the menu, we went for it. The leftovers my husband added to our breakfast menu at camp the next day. Here are some of the things we ordered: ~ Chicken fried steak w/hash browns and eggs ~ Biscuits and gravy ~ Waffles with side order of bacon & eggs The biscuits and waffles were ok, but everything else was very good. This was my first time here and I was very impressed. We were warmly greeted as we walked into the restaurant. Sat where we wanted as it wasn't packed so there were seats to choose from but it wasn't empty either. Business remained steady as we had our breakfast. The restaurant has a lot of charm. Hubby's been here before and let me know they've updated. I like the country charm of the decor and of the employees. It was cozy inside but I'm sure they can fit more people as there was seating in what seemed like a separate, additional room. We sat down, received our menus and drinks quickly with friendly smile and conversation. Our waitress was super friendly, wish I remembered her name. She and other waitress did a great job checking on us and making sure we we're good and/or needed anything. Food came out quickly as well. First time here I had to try the chicken fried steak, it was very good, very big, and very filling. Comes with two eggs cooked any way you like, had browns or country potatoes, and coffee of today, pancakes, or biscuit with gravy. Gravy was good as well, I put more pepper in mine, because I like a lot more pepper as a preference. Now this isn't the best chicken fried steak I've ever had but it was good enough that I'd come back for it. Couldn't tell you how good biscuit was as I took home with the reasoning gravy and steak. It was swallowed up by some hungry monsters before I could make it to the fridge! LOL Hubby liked his Chili Verde omelet but admitted he would've like to have my chicken fried steak. His sourdough toast was buttered perfectly. I love buttered toast and jam! Coffee was ok. I'm happy it didn't taste like brown water but didn't expect it to taste like Starbucks either... Not a restaurant where I would have that expectation. I enjoyed and appreciated that we were able to sit, relax, and chat before, during, and after our meal. I have heard quite good things about this place, I was in the area at lunch time, so no better time to try it out. The place has a small town, cabin feel to it, very clean. They serve breakfast all day so I got a spinach, mushroom omelet with home fries and toast. The omelet was really good but it had Swiss cheese slices on top which was a bit much. Would have been much better with shredded cheese. Other than that the food was great! Made to order. The service on the other hand, was really slow it took a while for them to take my order, to get my food, and to get my bill. I had time to read and respond to work emails in between all of that. I love having breakfast here. My husband and I stopped by for breakfast this day. I got the special of that day which was the Philly Cheese omelet and it didn't disappoint! Lots of meat in it and the Swiss cheese was great. I always get the country potatoes because I love the extra flavoring and onions and bell peppers in them versus the hash browns. My husband got an omelet too, but I don't remember the name of it. I'll post a picture though. He loved it as well. We will definitely be back. Oh and another note, the iced tea was good. Let's get to the food Wow is word that I'm using to describe this place. My wife had the steak and eggs. If she could give it 10 stars she would so we'll go with a well deserved 5*. Had a really good feel all the way around but the food was not that great. Here is what we order Steak and eggs, chicken and waffles and biscuits and gravy. The Chicken was good but the waffle was like a sponge and was not to good. As for the biscuits and gravy, the biscuit was real good and the gravy was bland, had to taste at all. I had a half of a steak and it was pretty tough. The pictures look good but to food was not that great. I expected more from a 4 a half star place. Every single time, there parking lot is full!! Told my wife that if we ever pass here and find a empty parking spot, we are gonna dine here!! Well, that Sunday morning finally arrived!!
