I love diners and Molly J's encapsulates all the proper feels of a diner. The place and ambiance reminded me of Georgia Diner on Queens Boulevard in my hometown of NYC. I didn't hear of any background music and never even missed it! Our waitress was Rebecca and she was wonderful. The portions were huge. I was a little miffed about paying $10 on sales tax but what can you do? My husband and son ordered identical plates, as they always do, SMH. They said everything was delicious. I ordered a veggie omelette with country potatoes and a pancake. Everything was great but that sole pancake was exceptional! It was SO good that I ordered one to go. It was my late grandmother's favorite spot, and after visiting again recently, it's easy to see why, it's one of those diners that stays consistently good, no matter how many years go by. Have been passing this place often when going to the store so decided to stop and get some dinner. This is a nice diner which Reminds me of one back in Whittier my grandma and I would go to back in the day. Food was delicious and more than enough to satisfy my hunger. I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy and corn. This was their daily special. I would definitely come back to try other items and want to try their breakfast next. My husband and I were in town for the day and as we were leaving we thought we'd try Molly J's for lunch and so glad we did! My husband had the French dip sandwich which was delicious and was a large size sandwich and fries. The roast beef was so tender and seasoned perfectly, *much* better than any comparable sandwich we've had in other restaurants. I had breakfast for lunch with corned beef hash & eggs + hash browns which was also delicious! First time here. It's a beautiful Monday. 9:45am Greeted and seated very quickly. The food is extremely soft. And my eggs Benedict were very basic. Soggy muffin. I can definitely see why I see lots of elderly folks in here. Which is great: so if you're trying to accommodate your friend, or Family on the super soft food here is the place. Happy Mother's Day! My son took me out to breakfast. Ava R. Our server was very dry and semi rude throught the entire meal. Food was okay. The potatoes were horrible. Dry as if we asked for crispy fries. To top it off, they were handing out carnations to the "Mother's". Guess who ddidn't get one. Yep. You guessed it the only Black mom in the restaurant. I drove past this place a few times before I finally decided to try and let me say it did not disappoint. We decided to try this place because we yelped to see who offered more than just breakfast at early in the morning. This spot has a diner feel and is pretty much dated back too mid 90's look. The food was good and service was also good. They acknowledged us right after stepping up to their counter and were seated right away with menus. Soon after we were asked for our drink order. They allowed us time to browse and asked if we had any questions, the workers seem to get regulars and it looks like they have a good friendly staff. I also couldn't help but notice their amazing pie dessert display that I can't wait to return to try. We all enjoyed our food the chorizo burrito I had was very tasty and not greasy at all. This is the spot for us when we go up to all the national parks in the Sierra Nevada. We usually stop here to have breakfast/lunch as our last "real" meal before our camping our backpacking trip. Overall, the food is decent for a typical local/home feel diner. The people there are great. Our server Rebecca was very attentive and detail. What a little gem! We had planned to go to another restaurant when we were in Bakersfield, but it turned out to be too far from where we were doing business. The fellow we were working with recommended Molly J's so we tried it. I had the chicken fried steak breakfast and my husband had the sausage patty breakfast. One of my favorite places in Bakersfield for breakfast. My favorite meal is a hamburger steak with eggs. I have eggs scrambled with some cheddar cheese and green onions. I asked for my hamburger steak rare and actually cook it correctly. Use a higher quality meat, tastes like ground chuck cooking on a flame broiler so it has that flame broiled flavor. I get cottage cheese instead of potatoes and biscuits and gravy. Excellent food and the service is also wonderful. The manager is always working right alongside with the waitresses to insure the customer is taken care of. read more

Very disappointed to say the least. I use to come here all the time with my dad before he passed away a couple of years ago. But hadn't been since before Covid. Back then the food was really good. This morning since we were on that side of town decided to stop by for breakfast. We were greeted right away. Our waitress was good, but the food was not. My husband had steak and eggs. Steak had no flavor he kept adding salt and pepper and covered it some gravy that I ordered as a side for my pork chops. Speaking of pork chops, same thing no flavor! My eggs were cooked. The country potatoes were okay until i made the mistake of putting ketchup on them. The bottle says Heinz, but it didn't not taste like it. It had some type of sweet awful taste. Our toast was soaked in butter. It still looks the same in there, very clean. I also noticed that they are a little higher than a lot of better cafes around town. I won't be back. read more

Went in for lunch with two other ladies. We ordered the meatloaf lunch, patty melt and I had the zucchini appetizer and slice of apple pie. The service was prompt and friendly as usual. We were waiting for our third person and they allows us to be seated which was nice. Our food was delivered time and everyone was happy. They gave us a complimentary cookie. My previous review I had ordered a salad and it was very wet so I opted not to order that again however while walking through the restaurant I noticed somebody else that ordered the salad and unfortunately it looks like there's a soup as well. Everything else I've ever had here is always been great just recommend not ordering a salad. I had never tried apple pie with cheese on it before so he just looked at me like I was kind of crazy but appellee obliged not sure that it turned out exactly how it supposed to however it wasn't horrible. I was thankful she was willing to accommodate what we both seem to think was a weird request. However I can't see the England had it wrong not necessarily but it enhance the flavor of my pie it was definitely interesting. I will try the pie again with a different form of cheese. Not that this is a restaurant negative I think it was very polite of her to assist in anyway she could. I love Molly J's. Breakfast is great and the weekend crowds confirm that. I am a fan of their bowl of soup and corn bread. I have fried several kinds and I like the beef vegetable a lot. Tonight I had the Chinese chicken salad which is very large. The salad dressing is fantastic. My husband loves to come on the weekends for the prime rib. Wonderful service from a down home staff.
