They just remodeled this place. Classic vintage diner that gives hearty portions... they definitely live up to that! Tried this place early on a Sunday morning. My family's usual go-to for breakfast when we eat out. Their portions are huge for the price you pay and the food we get is great. We usually order the chili verde omelet and/or some kind of skillet and it comes with biscuits and gravy -- all enough food for multiple meals. I will admit their service is hit or miss so we usually order for pick-up to avoid the lines/waits. I don't think I've ever waited more than 30 mins for our food when I've ordered for pick-up. read more

Service was fine for me and a friend each time we visited this restaurant, unfortunately I cannot say that my son received the same service or hospitality that I did. All he wanted were French toast full breakfast with a side of biscuits and gravy which I suggested and they are his favorite. My son's very first visit was a horrible experience. I was angry at the way my son said he was treated as a paying customer. I know it's like beating a dead horse. And most do not believe racism still exists but it does, especially here in Bakersfield. Yes he is a tall (6ft 4in) handsome, great personality, kind to everyone, father of 7 equally beautiful children, black male with dreads. Even though I said all that he was treated like a tall, black male with dreads. He was ignored by waitresses, snapped at by waitresses, order taken reluctantly, stared at by other patrons, and change thrown back at him. I was furious and called and spoke with the owner expressed my feelings and let her know that I will not be returning and nor will any of my family or friends. Food is good. Service is slow. When seated, we were not asked if we wanted anything to drink. I would say between 5 to 10 min before anyone came to us. The food came out quickly but was not fully hot. One person requested fruit instead of hash browns, but we were charged .99 cents, and they did not tell us that there was an extra charge. I also ordered one slice of toast instead of the two that came with the meal, and it was buttered on half the slice. I was asked if I wanted any hot sauce or salsa. I had to ask a second time about 10 minutes later because she never brought me what I wanted in the first place. The restaurant was clean, but the bathroom was nasty. You're getting vintage school Sambo's building (I think) be prepared to stand and wait cus they don't have much of a waiting area. Due to the wait time we decided to sit at the counter. The staff was friendly and boy did these girls have their hustle on. We didn't have to wait long to place our order but it did take long to get our order. The place isn't very big, it maybe seats 75 - 80 people. Well we all have our likes and dislikes when it comes to food. If you like food the way your sister cooks it when mom tells her to make your brothers and sisters something to eat, you'll like this place. If you like a lot of food and inexpensive prices, you'll like this place. The food isn't anything fancy, just comfy. Service was good. I ordered hamburger steak , scrambled eggs with cheddar on top, country potatoes, biscuits with gravy, two strips of bacon. The bacon was a thick but wasn't crispy like I like. The potatoes were fried in oil and served glistening in oil. Too much oil. The eggs needed salt and I suspected were also fried in the same oil, not butter which would have added more needed flavor. The hamburger patty was undercooked and also needed salt. The biscuits and gravy had a sweetness to them. It was the biscuit Too sweet for me and the cream gravy had way too much black pepper. The gravy was too thin and didn't have that richness of milk butter flavor that I'm used too. Rarely do I not eat the biscuits and gravy but I left 3/4 of it on my plate. Coffee was good. Overall a below average breakfast meal. I left half of it on the plate. The decor was nice with the natural wood and browns. Overall a mediocre to below average experience. This place has so much potential, these people really should step up their game in regards to food taste and quality. For the price of about $23 dollars I could have had a much better breakfast elsewhere. I will not return. read more

However, like Bob Ross always said, there are no mistakes, only happy accidents, and this nice little restaurant sure proved the point.  We had business in Bakersfield and decided to grab a quick meal before things got started.  Talk about surprised, breakfast was not only very tasty, but too big to finish.  From the coffee to the Chicken Fried Steak, country taters and gravy smothered biscuits, everything was wonderful.  Our server was also very attentive, our cups never running dry, we felt like VIP's or something.  This place is definitely on our Bakersfield HAPPY list for any future visits.  Not fancy, just good old fashioned, down home style food. Trash service, VERY unclean from the doors to floors. Yuck! I don't know why we even stayed. The seats in the booth we sat at were full of food, the floors were gross. We then see the busier pick up, hopefully unopened, packages of jelly then add them back to the caddy on the table; he could have at least wiped them off. Our orders were taken, and as we waited for our meal we were sat next to a large very loud party. Being that we were in such close proximity, like just about leg to leg, due to only one side of the restaurant being open the waitress should have moved the the other party's table over as far as possible. which she didn't. The steak wasn't seasoned and over cooked, eggs and toast were cold and my daughter's waffles were dry and tough. Oh let me not forget to add ALL of the condiment containers were FILTHY we ended up using baby wipes to hold them. The ketchup bottle, syrup bottle, Tabasco sauce, and the sugar bottle all had gravy sauce all over it. When using the restroom it looked like they've never cleaned it.
