Enjoyed a nice early breakfast today at Spencer's coffee shop. Spencers was bustling with their early Friday regulars this coffee shop is always clean and fresh. I haven't been to Spencer's in quite some time. Our waitress had a coffee and water promptly and was very friendly.I ordered the senior special, couple slices of thick bacon, scrambled eggs, and some hashbrowns, my order didn't take long to be brought out. Spencer's is a local establishment. They have multiple locations around town but this own is very close to our home. It's a great choice for breakfast or lunch. Service is always on point. I don't think I've ever had my coffee refilled so fast in my life. They have a nice cozy feel, where almost every table is a booth at this specific restaurant. It's great for 1-2 or ever larger parties. They'll make it work for you, no matter how big your party is, especially when they have the banquetesque style room in the back. The food has never disappointed. Cooked to order and just a tip, to order any of your potato options at breakfast well done. They some times also have a bbq going outside for lunch and the occasional dinner. Overall the food is great, the atmosphere is nice and the service is excellent. I would also touch on this place being about the average, price wise, when compared to other local breakfast establishments but the CRAZY $3.00 "admin charge" to pay with a card is a little over the top. Had not been to Spencer's in a while so I was excited for our retiree group to attend this months breakfast at Spencer's. I ordered the chile verde omelette as that's how I like to compare cooks and variations at various diners The presentation good. The chile verde was not as tender as most breakfast places. The country potatoes were good enough but my friends said their hash browns were lacking and not cooked all the way through. Service was PERFECT. Overall not a bad day but for $17.50 I'd like tender, cut with a fork pork chunks. 3.5 stars but I'll round up and be back to try the chile verde again. read more

Pretty good breakfast place! I think my only thing I gotta say was the portion size maybe? I guess I was kinda thrown off guard by the size of the omelette was when I thought it would be bigger. Same goes for the pancakes. Everything was delicious but we just wish the portion size was a bit bigger considering they were about $16-18. I took my mother's to Spencer's for breakfast last week. This is my first time since they changed their hours. We ordered a ham and cheese omelette and a hobo omelette. We came here yesterday and we've given Spencer several chances, about 6-7 times total between dining in and picking up food, but unfortunately the service has consistently fallen short. Out of all these visits, only once did we have a positive service experience. During our visits, we're usually seated, the server takes our order, brings out the food, and then we're completely ignored. The server never comes back, and no one checks in. Toward the end of the meal, we end up having to flag down a different server, usually someone just walking by, if we need a coffee refill, a to-go box, or even just the check. We can never seem to find our original server again. This has happened too many times including yesterday to feel like a one-time oversight. What's especially discouraging is that the staff seems to give noticeably better attention to guests they appear to recognize, which makes it hard for new or occasional customers like us to feel welcome or encouraged to return. The food is pretty good, though slightly overpriced, but good food can only go so far when the service feels inconsistent and inattentive. It's disappointing. We love going to breakfast spots, and this one is really close to home, but after repeatedly being overlooked and ignored, we just don't feel like coming back due to the service. read more

Well today we chose to give Spencers a try because we where close by. We usually have a good experience when Jasmine is around. But today felt like we just weren't a priority like everyone should feel in a restaurant. First off, my wife's order was incorrect. She ordered steak and eggs medium well with half order hash browns. She received a dry overcooked piece of what might as well been a rock. And country potatoes. Strike one. Simple dish remake would have eased us but instead it felt like we were automatically put on the back burner. Not to mention the waitress almost didn't want to be at our table for more than a second. We had asked for more coffee creamer not only did it take a while to Receive it but also it was brought to us in very rude and uncourteous manner. The cup it was brought in was placed very harshly on our table and then they sped off without saying a word. Like we Understand sometimes a it gets busy but at this point in time it wasn't. Once again on our way out the checkout was met with disdain and an unapologetic pay here and get out vibe. The only reason im Leaving two stars is because the at least honored our request to have our pancakes brought to us as an appetizer while they prepared the rest of the order. As always the restaurant is clean and well cared for. The staff is prompt, polite and friendly. My server was Lindsey who was great. You always see a lot if regulars here, which speaks well of both staff and food. I like that they bring the flatware in a paper case, which keeps it cleaner & sanitary. I ordered the Caesar Salad lunch special with Sautéed Salmon. They serve a generous portion of skin on salmon filet that is lightly dusted with a Creole/Cajun seasoning. The skin is crispy and the salmon moist. The Caesar dressing tastes a bit more like an Italian vinaigrette, but is tasty. It's topped with fresh shredded Parmesan, lovely ripe fresh tomatoes and croutons. It is placed on a generous bed of dressed Romaine lettuce. The price is $17 which, in my opinion, an appropriate price for the serving. If you are looking for a delicious home style meal with good service Spencer's is on the list. read more

My friends and I come through here 1-2 times a year. We eat here primarily because the food is good. Never had food here we didn't like.I can't really say the service is all that great. I feel like because we aren't regulars that we don't get good service. Takes a bit to get started, ordered, anything else... the servers sure are quick to drop that check and NOT buss the table. Spencer's on Rosedale is one of those places that, once you enter, you immediately feel at home. It's got that typical cafe vibe. While Spencer's is probably known for their breakfasts, it was lunchtime. We picked the Avocado Swiss Chicken Sandwich. Our server, Loren, brought out our hot tea for my wife and lemonade for me. The food plate was not far behind. They seasoned the bread with a garlic-cheese seasoning and it was very good. The chicken was tender and juicy. And, the sandwich was built like a sandwich should be - with plenty of bacon and a large dose of avocado. The hefty serving of french fries that came with made sure we didn't leave hungry. There is a regular menu, a senior menu and a lunch special menu, so you'll never grow tired of coming to Spencers. This place is a friendly restaurant that has a good value. I frequented this restaurant for 11 years, becoming very close to the owners and to the staff. I supported them during COVID, and when they were closed down for rodents and roaches. I supported tgem when they stopped opening at night. Unfortunately, the owner/management decided to hire several young people who are destroying the service and reputation of this restaurant. I may have been the most loyal customer this restaurant ever had, but after recently going there and having to deal with two of these young people, I will NEVER go there again. I was in Bakersfield, California for work and wanted to try something good. I got on Instagram and put in Bakersfield eats and low and behold I found Spensers Cafe, there were three locations and I chose the one close to me on Rosedale Highway. The parking lot was packed and this to me is usually a good sign. When I walked in, the place was decorated in a rustic flare. The waitresses were nice and friendly. I ordered my ice tea which was pretty good and the glasses were tall. I ordered the All American Club Sandwich with French fries of course. So when the sandwich came out it looked pretty tasty. The sandwich was on toasted sourdough bread with melted cheese, tomato, ham, turkey, and bacon. SO GOOD!! The French froes were crinkle cut and crispy. They were perfect. As you walk in you are always greeted by not only the hostess but many waitresses. They are always busy, sometimes you do have to wait but it's never long. It doesn't matter what you order breakfast or lunch you can't go wrong. If you are by yourself or with a big party they can accommodate you. The food and service is always great! I have been coming here since the beginning. I actually grew up not far away and would ride my bike here when it was Perkos. That was many moons ago. Food here is reasonably priced for the amount you get. We just moved here to Bakersfield so we were looking for a nice small diner restaurant that we can call our "go-to" spot now. Back home we had a Norms but there is not one out here. We ordered the spencer cheese steak sandwich, the Swedish pancake breakfast and the pork chop breakfast. They were all good especially the Swedish pancake one. Cheese steak could use a bit of peppers or something but overall was good and came with lots of fries. Pork chop breakfast they asked if we wanted it breaded or grilled which was a nice choice considering both would be the same price. A friend told me she no longer goes there because of the service and I didn't believe her. Wow has this place changed! We used to go quite often, but won't happen again. Our server was so busy gabbing with her buddies that she kept forgetting our stuff. Husband ordered Hash brown potatoes and got country. So she took it back to correct it. Fine no problem. Then she's asks if there is anything else that we need and he replied "My milk". She then gives him a nasty look and shakes her head as she walks away. Once back to the kitchen area she starts talking to her buddies (employee) and points at my husband. One employee went so far as to actually stick her tongue out at him. We each had only one bite of our meal, but refuse to be subjected to that kind of behavior. We asked for the bill, paid ,and then asked for the Manager who was like deer in the headlights. We informed him what had transpired, then the girl (server) had the gall to say my husband was short with her.
