I really want to give it 5 stars but every time we come there has been an issue. The food is delicious and I will definitely come back but today the service was very very slow. We asked for napkins which never came and we waited a very long time to get our check and to go box. It was not our servers fault. She was the only server I saw for the inside and outside and I also saw her behind the bar making drinks. They need more employees working. We showed up at noon 1 hour after they opened and the place was dead. We were the only ppl outside in the patio. During our stay 3 other couples did show up. It's been a little while since we ate brunch at Sonder. Very good choice today. We had amazing service and we all enjoyed every bite. The bruschetta appetizer is always a crowd pleaser. I appreciate that they slice it up and it's easy to share. We had the sonder burger, breakfast sandwich and French dip. We also upgraded to Mac n cheese and it was definitely worth the extra $5!! As always, their portions are generous and the iced tea was good. There were a lot of tables full of happy families and couples enjoying their morning together. We were seated quickly and had a nice time together. We were celebrating my son's birthday and they were kind enough to bring out a slice of confetti cake. The short rib has finally been ordered and let me tell you it doesn't disappoint. The short rib is fork tender and perfectly slow cooked to melt in your mouth. Sauce is very rustic and bold and exactly what you want with this dish. It absolutely hot the mark and then some. My 2nd favorite short rib of all time. Definitely worth every bite. Potatoes were not my style but still good, and carrots were cooked and caramelized perfectly. I would 1,000 percent order this again and again and again. read more

My friend and I spent a pleasant afternoon at Sonder recently. We went at around 2:30 in the afternoon. Perfect time for a friend meetup. It's quiet and peaceful, easy to chat without yelling. Jake was our outstanding server. He was so friendly and attentive. I love sitting on those lovely green sofas. I had the Lavender Lemon Drop Martini, Yum, my friend had glass of Cabernet. My companion ordered the chicken with mushroom sauce so rich and comforting. I had the seared Ahi appetizer. The interior is upscale industrial, very attractive. If you don't mind a fairly loud place during peak hours it's a nice environment for a date night. I've always experienced great service, delicious food and tasty libations here. Today we came here for brunch on our way out of town. Our Aunt said that she comes here all the time and even lives close enough to walk so she felt like it would be the perfect place to do brunch! I'm so glad we listened! Jacob was our server and he was so awesome! Honestly he was one of the kindest servers we have ever met very attentive and so just all around kind! He was attentive and helpful whenever we needed a refill or some extra syrup! Shout out to him for being amazing! Sometimes they have comedy shows; that sell out fast and look fun. We went for brunch on the weekend; menu isn't huge; but decent choices. I ordered the French toast; yum ; made my eyes jump out of their sockets. The fresh berries added a nice touch. I added a side order of sausage patties, so good. One of my friends and I did the unlimited mimosas ; I think it's around $30. Pineapple mimosa was definitely top winner. My work held their Christmas party Friday night here at Sonder's. This was my first time eating there and I have to say, I really enjoyed the food. We had the entire patio reserved, it was cold, butvthey had several propane heaters going. As long as you bundled up, it was fine. My legs and feet stayed kind of cold but it wasnt too bad. They served a salad with sone sore of champagne dressing. It was really good. The onions were quite strong and the dressing was peppery. So if you didn't plan on kissing anyone and if you like black pepper, it was good. Theu also served mashed potatoes that looked like they were made with red potatoes. I didn't have any but they looked really good and my coworkers who had sone said they were good. And the green beans were super good too! They had diced tomatoes in them. Definitely need to find a recipe for that. Proteins where chicken and tri-tip. Both were really good. The chicken was nice and moist. The tri-tip was tender. Light seasonings but all really good. It's a hidden gem in the Northwest Bakersfield. It has a cool European pub vibe. The server was surrounding sweet and helpful. The food come quickly. I try to love this place, but I can't. Every time I go back to try it out and give it another chance, they fail me. My main complaint is service. No host to greet you. Each time I've gone in, I have stood at the front waiting for about 5 minutes for someone to even acknowledge me and to come seat me. There is zero awareness from the staff. It's never packed when I visit. Which is mind baffling, since service is so slow. Every step of the way thru out my experience, has moved at a snails pace. I am guessing they understaff everyday. It's been years since we have been here. Love the changes to the dining room since we last visited. Warm and inviting. We were able to see Hillary who is always a joy. I'm sorry not to be able to thank our outstanding bartender, her name is slipping my mind . I'll update when I recall her name or find my receipt. Both ladies were welcoming and friendly. The drinks were excellent. I tried the Valentini and the watermelon margarita. For dinner we had the mussels and clams that were delicious. Our server was taking a very long time to take our drink and food order, and then it took about 45 minutes for them to get it out to us. This was on a Friday at about 1:30pm. It was a bit busy-- but not wait 45 minutes for your order busy. Additionally, we were sitting at the outside patio and our server was hardly coming out to check on us, so we finally went inside to ask for tab because we were tired of waiting. This was probably my third visit to Sonders, and each time, whether with a small or larger group, the service has been consistently quick and decent. The food is excellent overall, definitely on the pricier side, but you get good quality. This time, I had the lobster ravioli, which was rich, creamy, and very flavorful. We went to lunch their recently and arrive at 1140 and left at 1pm the food took forever for our party of 7.

Very relaxing atmosphere, our server was attentive and friendly. The food was amazing. I had the 3 tacos steak, chicken and pork belly. So delicious the flavor of the pork belly was outstanding and it was so nice and crispy. Even the beans, rice and salsa we excellent. My nephew had the Cuban Sandwich and said it was the best he's ever eaten. The flavors stood on their own and the bread was perfect. We also had the Bread Pudding OMG haven't had a taste of heaven like that in years. Sweet, crunchy, bananas, golden raisins, ice cream, the sauce and ice cream I believe I truly had a party in my mouth. Can't wait to return. I want to try the Cuban next time. I really didn't want to leave a 2 star but I couldn't find many positives. First it was a Saturday afternoon so it was busy so I'll take that into consideration. Had a reservation and was seated immediately which was awesome. The problems started here. Took almost 15 minutes after sitting down to take a drink order and another 15 minutes to get drinks. Took another 30 to take our order. The food came quick so that's a plus. I had the poutine and it was ok. Very salty and tots were definitely cooked in old oil. Very brown and hard. (You can see in all the pics). It wasn't bad but I wouldn't order again. The steak came cooked to order and was told it was good. Also the Hot mess had good flavor and crispy bacon. This is my personal bias but the brussle sprouts were not good at all. I usually love them but seems like instead of a balsamic glaze it was just balsamic and made them bitter. And the smell was so bad. That being said, the person who ordered ate them all so it must have been me. (Even though no one else at the table would try them). But the service was just bad. The kid was nice but he would come and check on us I would ask him to take a plate and he said he would just come back later and grab them. We had to ask for every refill and when he would drop a new glass and not take the old. We had 7 empties on our table at one point. We stayed for a while after eating and no one would clear the plates even when asked. We were there for a bday lunch and stayed to visit after and never once asked if anyone wanted another round of drinks and waters were not refilled. This is not a bad place just had a bad experience. I'd give it a try if you haven't been but I don't think I'll be going back. read more

Online and on their doors states they're open til 11pm on Saturday, we showed up at 9:40pm. Closed. Ambiance looked ok. Can't say how the food was, we were not seated. Funnier part is the door was open and we walked in. I walked over to the bartender and when I asked if they were still open she said "oh no we're closed" with this non-apologetic sense and a vibe like I should have known they close at 9:30pm, not 11pm like their hours state. She didn't say "sorry we're closing 1.5 hours early because we were slow", which would be understandable if she tried to car. It was very much in my face, get with the program energy, "you should know" lol. I can understand closing at 10:40, 10:30, even 10:15 because they're slow but 1.5 hours early? I shouldn't have to call them at 9:30 to see if they're still open. Stuff like this is very annoying, we probably won't try to go again. read more
