Never disappoints! Everything I've had here has always been delicious. I've never known a better place in Bakersfield that can cook a perfect piece of cod. The portions are always a good size. My group's always shared appetizer plates and there's always plenty to go around. Convenient location in downtown which makes it a perfect place for lunch or dinner. This place is great for date nights or for larger groups.

This place is delicious!! The food all tasted great! My hanger steak was perfectly cooked and the creamy caper pasta was delicious! The service was also very good. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful throughout our dinner. The ambiance inside was also good. Loud enough that you can talk but not overwhelming. Also we showed up without a reservation and were still seated right away. Another plus. The only "bad" thing I will say is no parking. Parking is so hard to find coming here. We parked around the corner and walked.

My wife and I came here in December for a nice dinner to celebrate Christmas. We were looking for a good steak dinner and we were both very happy with our meals. The steaks were juicy, delicious, and perfectly cooked. They each came with a side of pasta which was a nice add-on. We had a calamari appetizer that was just ok and I would probably skip next time. Overall, great experience. Fantastic steaks, nice pasta on the side, great sautéed mushrooms, and a nice ambience. I would return for our next special occasion.

It was my second time here, I definitely was looking forward to try some pasta and let me say they did not disappoint! Seating was fast and friendly, although I was being served by a gentleman several of the ladies offered service which was so nice. Some nice classical music would have took me straight to Italy. But over all it's nice and calm atmosphere. I tried the Braised short rib ravioli, the pasta was perfect cooked and the filling was so flavorful, I'm definitely gonna come back for the same dish. The margarita was tasty and hit the spot. They have availability for big parties although it is a little tight in there. Recommend and definitely lived up to the hype can't wait to come back

Came here on a Friday night. Glad we made reservations. It was packed! Nice ambiance, servers were too busy though, there was a bit of a wait. We had the porcini sacchetti and calamari fritta. Authentic for sure, good flavors, just a bit pricey and portion size is definitely not for sharing! We probably should've shared a steak instead but now we know! Would probably come back and make better food choices. Now I know why this is such a gem in town!

Let me start by saying that we are always more than happy to pay for really good food and the food here is always good! We also feel that the menu prices are appropriate for the food and ambiance. Husband ordered the special seafood trio last night which was approximately 6-7 ounces of pan seared halibut, two medium sized shrimp and one average scallop. The charge was $95.00. Insane! We had an event to go to so we just signed and left. When I called today to double check and make sure it wasn't an error I spoke to a nice gentlemen who explained how much seafood prices have increased. Ok, I understand that however, I suggested that they quote the price when they tell the special in these cases because literally nobody would willingly order that if they knew ahead of time. Basically the response was that people eating there don't mind the price because they appreciate getting such good quality locally. Again, it is the principle. We will be back, but will never ever order a "special" again.

    Ribeye with bolognese

Came here for my birthday. Always wanted to try this place. Got the ribeye with a bolognese. For the price I think the food was just okay... What tasted the best out of our dinner was the calamari. The service took quite some time. But it did end up getting a little busy later on.

This was my first visit to Mamma Mia, and this review is just my opinion... not sure how long they've been there but i've heard somewhere around 2018. Somebody please let me know if i'm wrong. Anyhow other than a few minor misses, the experience absolutely lived up to the name Mamma Mia as these were my first words when the Tomahawk Steak showed up,and the expectations I had walking in were brought to life. THE GRUB: The tomahawk steak was true to size and flavor - huge in size, incredibly tender, and cooked perfectly from edge to center, with a beautiful crust and tons of flavor in every bite. The fettuccine with Bolognese served alongside it was very tasty and well-seasoned, though the portion felt a little small compared with the impressive size and the price of the tomahawk, not a complaint just an observation, i knew I was ordering a tomahawk and I expected the price, thats not the point. The ribeye was also a highlight: well-sized, tender, and cooked exactly as ordered, making it another great choice for steak lovers. The fettuccine with butter sauce on the side was on the average side, but still tasty and comforting with a simple, buttery flavor. Service was wonderful; the waitress was very sweet, attentive, but she let us enjoy our meal coming in at just the right time and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the visit. The bread, unfortunately, was the low point of the meal; it was fairly plain, basic Wonderbread texture and the chopped olive topping that came with it (and i love olives ) was a slight disappointment, as an olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip would have been preferred but that's my opinion. The butter was served cold, which made it harder to enjoy with the bread and didn't match the otherwise excellent execution of the steaks and pastas. As my Granny(G-Unit) would say "Y'all gotta do better honey" The beer was nice and cold, and between that, the perfectly cooked steaks, and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant, this first visit to Mamma Mia did not disappoint and is easy to rate as a solid 4.5-star experience but unfortunately there are no 4.5 star ratings on here, so you get a 4 star rating Mamma mia.Thank you for everything. Ultimately the bread that got you a 4...

10/10 This is our new favorite spot!!! The servers, bartenders, and Chef are absolutely amazing! All very friendly people. They treat you like family here. Love the bar area. The food is outstanding! Highly recommend the pork chop and steak. The desserts are delish!!! If you are into flavorful food, and great service... then this is for you!

Such a cozy, nice restaurant! Welcoming staff. Attentive waiter. Delicious wine. Loved the complimentary bread with fresh pesto sauce served with it. Lasagna was exquisite! My friend had the sea bass and loved it. I'm so happy she chose this place for dinner!

I called ahead and asked some questions about the menu offerings and then decided to make a reservation. I placed my expectations low. I now have to eat a gluten free diet, which ummm, Italian basically equals pasta. But I told myself there was salad and so, off we went on a Saturday evening. The waiter was so nice and made sure my food came without gluten. He even allowed me a substitution for my pasta without hesitation. The bar offerings were great and the wine selection was good too. The dining area is a little noisy when it's full. So keep that in mind for those who can be overstimulated. The service was great and while it wasn't fast, it was precise and predictable. Get the Saltimbocca Chicken, yum! And the burger is fantastic with hand-cut freshly made fries. The Mamma Mia salad is a winner as well.

We got there a little bit early but they were kind enough to let us come in and have a drink at the bar before they opened. We ordered some wine and bruschetta and then garlic butter, penne pasta and then a cream cake with coffee. Everything was delicious and the service was exquisite. We definitely felt like they cared that we were there. We recommend Mamma Mia and will return.

Food: Absolutely delicious! As a vegetarian, I was so happy with the flavors--the sauce was deliiiishhh, we all couldn't stop talking about it. Plates were filling and came with free cold bread and pesto to start, plus we ordered one appetizer. The bill came out to about $150 for three people (no drinks), a little expensive but honestly worth it for how good everything tasted. Service: The service was great. Our server noticed I was using Google Translate on the menu and switched to Spanish, which made me feel really comfortable. They even offered to take pictures for us and surprised me with free ice cream for my birthday--such a sweet touch! Environment: The restaurant is a little small, but cozy and welcoming. Perfect for enjoying a nice meal without feeling rushed.

Nobody plans to spend an evening in Bakersfield. You pass through it on the way to somewhere else…read more-- Mammoth, the Sequoias, the long flat grind up the 99 to Sacramento -- and if you stop at all, it's for gas or a bathroom or because your BMW's brakes have decided, somewhere around the Grapevine, that they'd rather not. Thank you, Weatherford BMW of Berkeley, for the near-death experience and, inadvertently, for one of the best nights out I've had in years. Stranded and waiting on repairs, we checked into The Padre, the only hotel in Bakersfield that feels like someone with a subscription to Dwell had a hand in it, and set out walking through a downtown that time has treated with more kindness than reputation suggests. There's a Woolworth's luncheonette still hanging on. There are old brick facades and wide sidewalks and the particular quiet of a Central Valley evening when the heat finally breaks. And then, on 18th Street, there is Tiki-Ko, and suddenly you are no longer in Bakersfield at all. You are, instead, inside someone's magnificent obsession. Tiki-Ko is a proper tiki bar -- not a tiki-themed cocktail lounge, not a place that bought some bamboo at a craft store and called it atmosphere, but a genuine, committed, floor-to-ceiling shrine to mid-century Polynesian fantasy. The carvings are real. The lighting is correct -- which is to say, barely there. The mugs are serious. There are pufferfish lamps and carved totems and the whole glorious taxonomy of tiki ephemera, accented here and there with a skate-culture edge that keeps it from feeling like a museum. It's reverent without being precious. The drinks are the real thing. Mai Tais built with actual orgeat. Zombies that earn the name. The bartenders make them with the kind of care and enthusiasm that tells you this isn't a gig -- it's a calling. They want you to be here. They want to talk about rum. They want you to try the Painkiller. In a city that most Angelenos regard as a punch line, somebody built a world-class cocktail bar and filled it with joy, and the regulars clearly know it. You will not plan a trip to Bakersfield. But if you find yourself there -- by mechanical failure, by accident, by the peculiar mercy of a bad brake job -- walk downtown. Find the tiki bar. Order a second round. Stay longer than you intended. Bakersfield has been underestimated, and Tiki-Ko is the proof.

Little hidden gems. Lighting is dark with bits color and neon popping through. The Bar Top curves around the bar- there are two booths that seat 5-6 and two short tables next to them- one seats 4- the other will comfortably seat two. There are a few bench style seating areas at the front with some short coffee tables. Think- skater tiki bar. The drinks were good- small menu if you're not sure what you want or are new to tiki. Both sides of the menu are the same menu. There are some nice mocktail options as well- you don't see that often. The service for me is mixed- it wasn't busy- steady but not busy- 1/4 full. I ordered two drinks to start for our table- (no cocktail servers here/not unusual for a small Tiki bar) I asked for a soda water- the bartender looked at me without a word- popped open a can of soda water and walked away. When he walked back by, I asked for a glass of ice- he said nothing and I got an eye-roll huff. I almost left. I don't think providing a glass with ice to pour your canned room temp soda water in, is too wacky an idea to be perturbed by the request. The female who took the order was friendly, smiled and was professional. We got a third cocktail- the Mai Tai. The grumpy bartender was friendlier this time. So, that helped. Maybe he felt overwhelmed and I threw off his groove by asking for water- then a glass... either way- being annoyed wasn't cool. The music.... Wasn't Tiki- it threw off the "Tiki Vibe" and made it feel typical small local bar that serves only Tiki drinks with some Tiki decor. It didn't take you to the land of Tiki- disappointed. Drinks were good.

Last year I made a large reservation for about 10 ladies to celebrate someone and on the way to the restaurant they called to confirm the reservation (about 30 minutes before), but I did not hear my phone. When I arrived, a distraught friend told me that they did not have our reservation so I asked what the issue was. The manager told me because I did not confirm, they were not sure they were going to hold the table. I apologized that I had not recieved a call, but asked if we could still have the table (I was there on time and could see the large table with the reservation note on it). The manager begrungenly said they would allow us to still dine with them, but they said they would not seat us until more of our party arrived. I asked if we could wait for our party at the bar, but they said they would not because every seat at the bar was taken. So just a heads up, you cannot stand at the bar, you cannot stand around the restaurant, and they do not have a place to sit and wait for your table, you just have to stand outside (I'm sure it has to do with safety or firecodes, I didn't argue, we waited outside until people at the bar left). Once we were seated, the staff was not friendly. Wondering if we should leave or not, I called a friend who works near the building who frequents this place often on what I should do. He told me to go back inside and that the staff would be nice. When I returned, a new server came to our table with a tray of shots and said they would be taking care of us for the rest of the evening. I figured maybe the manager and that other server was just having a bad day, my friend must have called the restaurant and asked his most trusted server to help us, and enjoyed the rest of our evening. I didn't want to risk it another bad experience, so I haven't returned since. A few months ago during the whole Cesar Chavez news broke out, that friend who frequented the place went with another friend to the Botonist and was talking about the news while they were dining. The manager overheard. Later when my friends were getting ready to leave, the manager started becoming upset with my friends and told my guy friend, "I HOPE SOMEBODY R*PES YOU". Stunned, he asked her to repeat herself and she did. My friends left. The chefs and building are wonderful, but obviously something needs to be done about the management and staff with being professional and treating customers with respect. I've worked in the service industry and understand how stressful it can be, but I have always been able to keep my cool around people who are trying to enjoy a nice meal. Hoping they recieve the help they need as I love to see my community thrive.
