Never disappoints! Everything I've had here has always been delicious. I've never known a better place in Bakersfield that can cook a perfect piece of cod. The portions are always a good size. My group's always shared appetizer plates and there's always plenty to go around. Convenient location in downtown which makes it a perfect place for lunch or dinner. This place is great for date nights or for larger groups.
Lunch as a Mama Mia first timer. It is a fairly small and intimate indoor setting and our male server was fun and personable. Pyrenees bread never goes unnoticed and is welcomed to my presence with glee. The lunch menu offered a few things that sounded amazing (looking at you, bruschetta) but I settled on a spinach salad with fennel, fruit, and goat cheese topped with a tangy cilantro dressing. The chicken was seasoned nicely and the salad was a delight. My friend ordered the penne pasta with butter garlic sauce, also with chicken. Of course I had some her plate and it was nicely seasoned and tasty but not unforgettable. I am glad to have finally come here, but thought my lunch was pretty expensive compared to what I usually pay for a one diner situation.
I recently visited Mamma Mia Italian Restaurant while in town with my sister (it's her favorite spot), and she made a reservation for the four of us. Even though the restaurant was busy and lively, we were seated fairly quickly, which was a great start. The atmosphere was energetic, though there was some noticeable bass from nearby music that carried into the restaurant. It didn't completely take away from the experience, but it was something we all picked up on. We started with fresh bread and olive tapenade, which was a great touch--simple but really flavorful. We also shared a bottle of house Chianti, which paired nicely with the meal. For our entrees, we ordered the sea bass with a side of pasta, the skirt steak with seasonal vegetables, and the shrimp pasta with garlic shrimp. The shrimp pasta stood out--the shrimp were well-cooked and flavorful, and overall it felt like a thoughtfully done dish. The pasta that came with the sea bass was also surprisingly delicious and ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. The sea bass itself was decent, and the steak had good flavor, though the cook varied a bit more than expected. That said, the overall meal still came together well, especially with the stronger pasta dishes on the table. Overall, it's a solid spot in Bakersfield and clearly a local favorite. Coming from San Diego, I tend to gravitate toward very classic, simple Italian dishes--so if I were to come back, I'd probably lean into those staples, especially given how enjoyable the pasta was
My wife and I came here in December for a nice dinner to celebrate Christmas. We were looking for a good steak dinner and we were both very happy with our meals. The steaks were juicy, delicious, and perfectly cooked. They each came with a side of pasta which was a nice add-on. We had a calamari appetizer that was just ok and I would probably skip next time. Overall, great experience. Fantastic steaks, nice pasta on the side, great sautéed mushrooms, and a nice ambience. I would return for our next special occasion.
It was my second time here, I definitely was looking forward to try some pasta and let me say they did not disappoint! Seating was fast and friendly, although I was being served by a gentleman several of the ladies offered service which was so nice. Some nice classical music would have took me straight to Italy. But over all it's nice and calm atmosphere. I tried the Braised short rib ravioli, the pasta was perfect cooked and the filling was so flavorful, I'm definitely gonna come back for the same dish. The margarita was tasty and hit the spot. They have availability for big parties although it is a little tight in there. Recommend and definitely lived up to the hype can't wait to come back
This place is delicious!! The food all tasted great! My hanger steak was perfectly cooked and the creamy caper pasta was delicious! The service was also very good. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful throughout our dinner. The ambiance inside was also good. Loud enough that you can talk but not overwhelming. Also we showed up without a reservation and were still seated right away. Another plus. The only "bad" thing I will say is no parking. Parking is so hard to find coming here. We parked around the corner and walked.
Came here on a Friday night. Glad we made reservations. It was packed! Nice ambiance, servers were too busy though, there was a bit of a wait. We had the porcini sacchetti and calamari fritta. Authentic for sure, good flavors, just a bit pricey and portion size is definitely not for sharing! We probably should've shared a steak instead but now we know! Would probably come back and make better food choices. Now I know why this is such a gem in town!
This was my first visit to Mamma Mia, and this review is just my opinion... not sure how long they've been there but i've heard somewhere around 2018. Somebody please let me know if i'm wrong. Anyhow other than a few minor misses, the experience absolutely lived up to the name Mamma Mia as these were my first words when the Tomahawk Steak showed up,and the expectations I had walking in were brought to life. THE GRUB: The tomahawk steak was true to size and flavor - huge in size, incredibly tender, and cooked perfectly from edge to center, with a beautiful crust and tons of flavor in every bite. The fettuccine with Bolognese served alongside it was very tasty and well-seasoned, though the portion felt a little small compared with the impressive size and the price of the tomahawk, not a complaint just an observation, i knew I was ordering a tomahawk and I expected the price, thats not the point. The ribeye was also a highlight: well-sized, tender, and cooked exactly as ordered, making it another great choice for steak lovers. The fettuccine with butter sauce on the side was on the average side, but still tasty and comforting with a simple, buttery flavor. Service was wonderful; the waitress was very sweet, attentive, but she let us enjoy our meal coming in at just the right time and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the visit. The bread, unfortunately, was the low point of the meal; it was fairly plain, basic Wonderbread texture and the chopped olive topping that came with it (and i love olives ) was a slight disappointment, as an olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip would have been preferred but that's my opinion. The butter was served cold, which made it harder to enjoy with the bread and didn't match the otherwise excellent execution of the steaks and pastas. As my Granny(G-Unit) would say "Y'all gotta do better honey" The beer was nice and cold, and between that, the perfectly cooked steaks, and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant, this first visit to Mamma Mia did not disappoint and is easy to rate as a solid 4.5-star experience but unfortunately there are no 4.5 star ratings on here, so you get a 4 star rating Mamma mia.Thank you for everything. 10/10 This is our new favorite spot!!! The servers, bartenders, and Chef are absolutely amazing! All very friendly people. They treat you like family here. Love the bar area. The food is outstanding! Highly recommend the pork chop and steak. The desserts are delish!!! If you are into flavorful food, and great service... then this is for you!
Such a cozy, nice restaurant! Welcoming staff. Attentive waiter. Delicious wine. Loved the complimentary bread with fresh pesto sauce served with it. Lasagna was exquisite! My friend had the sea bass and loved it. I'm so happy she chose this place for dinner!
I called ahead and asked some questions about the menu offerings and then decided to make a reservation. I placed my expectations low. I now have to eat a gluten free diet, which ummm, Italian basically equals pasta. But I told myself there was salad and so, off we went on a Saturday evening. The waiter was so nice and made sure my food came without gluten. He even allowed me a substitution for my pasta without hesitation. The bar offerings were great and the wine selection was good too. The dining area is a little noisy when it's full. So keep that in mind for those who can be overstimulated. The service was great and while it wasn't fast, it was precise and predictable. Get the Saltimbocca Chicken, yum! And the burger is fantastic with hand-cut freshly made fries. The Mamma Mia salad is a winner as well.
Came here for my birthday. Always wanted to try this place. Got the ribeye with a bolognese. For the price I think the food was just okay... What tasted the best out of our dinner was the calamari. The service took quite some time. But it did end up getting a little busy later on.
This was our first time eating at Mamma Mia and it will not be our last! We met another couple who had arrived before us (they called and rsvp'd same day) and we didn't see them inside. We were so wrong - this place looks quaint and cozy at first glance but it opens up! After getting sat down with our party, the server took our drink orders and we ordered a mushroom satchel plate for the table. We ended up ordering another plate for the table. Plates were gone before I could get a drool worthy photo. Our drinks came and they were delicious. Like seriously, I'd like to take a moment to remember our drinks. Okay back to it. The entrees came and everything was so good. It was such a nice time to talk and eat and talk and eat. Such a pleasant place! read more

Absolutely love this place! The staff are always so welcoming and accommodating :) the bruschetta and short rib raviolis are to die for. If you have room for dessert I would suggest their tiramisu or spumoni ice cream; so yummy! I would highly recommend this Italian restaurant! read more

Food: Absolutely delicious! As a vegetarian, I was so happy with the flavors--the sauce was deliiiishhh, we all couldn't stop talking about it. Plates were filling and came with free cold bread and pesto to start, plus we ordered one appetizer. The bill came out to about $150 for three people (no drinks), a little expensive but honestly worth it for how good everything tasted. Service: The service was great. Our server noticed I was using Google Translate on the menu and switched to Spanish, which made me feel really comfortable. They even offered to take pictures for us and surprised me with free ice cream for my birthday--such a sweet touch! Environment: The restaurant is a little small, but cozy and welcoming. Perfect for enjoying a nice meal without feeling rushed. read more

Let me start by saying that we are always more than happy to pay for really good food and the food here is always good! We also feel that the menu prices are appropriate for the food and ambiance. Husband ordered the special seafood trio last night which was approximately 6-7 ounces of pan seared halibut, two medium sized shrimp and one average scallop. The charge was $95.00. Insane! We had an event to go to so we just signed and left. When I called today to double check and make sure it wasn't an error I spoke to a nice gentlemen who explained how much seafood prices have increased. Ok, I understand that however, I suggested that they quote the price when they tell the special in these cases because literally nobody would willingly order that if they knew ahead of time. Basically the response was that people eating there don't mind the price because they appreciate getting such good quality locally. Again, it is the principle. We will be back, but will never ever order a "special" again. read more

The ambience was really nice. It was a little warm inside the restaurant though. I started to sweat while I was eating dinner I always say I judge a restaurant off of the free bread that they give you ... if that were the case here I would be giving them a one because honestly, this was some of the worst bread I've ever had and they brought me two rounds of it. I was hoping the first round was just sitting out on the counter in the back, but the second round was just a stale. Now for the good part of the review : I'm not sure of the server's name, but he was very attentive and polite. I had a nice romantic dinner plan and didn't want to be bothered much and I feel like he picked up on that immediately. He made sure we were OK with whatever we needed and didn't bother us. 5/5 loved his service The food we had was amazing. I chose to get the ribeye steak with the pasta. The steak was done perfectly, and I couldn't have been happier if I made it myself. That saying a lot because I'm a food snob and I always prefer to cook my own food lol I will definitely come back off of the food and service alone. I haven't been to Mamma Mia's before, so was excited to try a place that's new to me that others love. It's definitely a classic Italian restaurant. We were seated promptly and assisted by our waiter quickly too, but service otherwise took quite a while as it was busy. We had some delicious drinks and I was really impressed by the large cocktail selection. Ordering was fairly simple for me, as the gluten free options were very limited. I went with the gluten free ravioli and a salad Our salads came only 5 minutes before our meals did, so we had a very full table. My salad was so delicious and while quite small, my gluten free dish was super good as well. I'd love to see more Gf options. read more

Out of bounds good!!!! We are so lucky to have so many great restaurants in town. This is one of them. The have so much to offer and so many great choices. I absolutely love their ravioli. FYI you can choose two different type!!! The braised short rib ravioli is out of bounds!!!! Make sure you try them all. The drinks are awesome as well. read more
Went in today for lunch and I hadn't been to Mamma Mia in years! The food was delicious we ordered the pasta purses for an appetizer and they were amazing our waiter made great recommendations and was efficient. The salmon was delicious, was beautifully caramelized. The Sofia salad was added to the side of my meatball sandwich and it was light and refreshing perfect for a hot sunny day. I would say that the complimentary bread was good initially but if you don't eat it right away it turns hard as a rock. But overall a good dining experience and will definitely be back. read more

Very cute! I went here on a date with my partner and food was delicious. I ordered the short rib ravioli and my partner got the porcini sacchetti and both were great! We also got the calamari which was great as well, it comes with this creamy, lemony sauce on top which I really enjoyed. There is unlimited bread as well which is always appreciated. But the portions were a little on the smaller side. read more

The food was so good! We ordered bruschetta, a caprese salad and a ny steak hot Italian sandwich. You get unlimited bread and butter which is also delicious! Our waitress was so kind and helpful. It was clean and had a very nice ambiance inside. read more

Man oh man! Although the food was delicious the comfort was not there! We came in as a party of 6 and sat in a table what seemed like for 4. It was a packed house so I understand. It was very hot and the service did the best they could with having so many parties. Lastly the price was on the higher side which again makes sense based on the quality, I would probably only come for a special special occasion and if invited. read more

Do NOT skip out on this gem! For the first time since food prices have been skyrocketing, we felt like we actually got what we paid for. Every bite had more flavor. I was taught the law of diminishing returns... The food is supposed to have less flavor the more you eat... Not here! Oh. My. Word. The food was so good. The wait staff was all very kind and hardworking. The experience was, overall, something we'd love to have again and again. read more

We finally decided to try Mamma Mia and man... it was totally worth it! So many Elite Yelpers all agreed that this place was definitely a great restaurant and I knew I had to see for myself. We went for our company Christmas dinner 2 Christmases ago. After this visit, I have been wanting to go back but I always forget about it. Food is on the pricier side, so if you want to splurge a little then come check this place out. Food was amazing, I would not mind spending here because the food is close to perfection. We even made sure to get dessert because we had such a great experience and even the dessert was the icing of the night. The restaurant is a decent size so if you have a big party I think they can accommodate. Dress code is casual. My only gripe is that the portions of the food is not that big considering how pricey they are. Other than that, everything is delicious and this is a perfect spot for date night. read more

Age???,You can call. I don't think so, but I think they would make a small plate of pasta for a child. The are very accommodating.
