Pyrenees bread never goes unnoticed and is welcomed to my presence with glee. The lunch menu offered a few things that sounded amazing (looking at you, bruschetta) but I settled on a spinach salad with fennel, fruit, and goat cheese topped with a tangy cilantro dressing. The chicken was seasoned nicely and the salad was a delight. My friend ordered the penne pasta with butter garlic sauce, also with chicken. Of course I had some her plate and it was nicely seasoned and tasty but not unforgettable. I recently visited Mamma Mia Italian Restaurant while in town with my sister (it's her favorite spot), and she made a reservation for the four of us. Even though the restaurant was busy and lively, we were seated fairly quickly, which was a great start. The atmosphere was energetic, though there was some noticeable bass from nearby music that carried into the restaurant. It didn't completely take away from the experience, but it was something we all picked up on. We started with fresh bread and olive tapenade, which was a great touch--simple but really flavorful. We also shared a bottle of house Chianti, which paired nicely with the meal. For our entrees, we ordered the sea bass with a side of pasta, the skirt steak with seasonal vegetables, and the shrimp pasta with garlic shrimp. The shrimp pasta stood out--the shrimp were well-cooked and flavorful, and overall it felt like a thoughtfully done dish. The pasta that came with the sea bass was also surprisingly delicious and ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. Never disappoints! Everything I've had here has always been delicious. I've never known a better place in Bakersfield that can cook a perfect piece of cod. The portions are always a good size. It was my second time here, I definitely was looking forward to try some pasta and let me say they did not disappoint! Seating was fast and friendly, although I was being served by a gentleman several of the ladies offered service which was so nice. Some nice classical music would have took me straight to Italy. They forgot a whole meal after waiting a very long time for our food to come out, i understand when busy can take a little longer but when we placed our order it was not busy. They offered to make it but we didn't want to wait again for a meal. Then our bill was wrong and had to be fixed 4 times. Added extra drinks, items we did not order, still couldn't get it right the first 3 times. We waited over an hour to get it right and check out. Plus they ran our friends card before anything was fixed and would not give her copies of the "voided" charges. The owner was assisting the waitress each time but not once came over to address our concerns, or talk to us about it,and when he finally did he was rude, making it Sound like it was all our fault, and saying how he had avoided talking to ppl who wanted to see him to try deal with this. Attempted to offer a better server next time we came in. But never once an apology for their multiple mistakes. The mix up and over charge was over 250. This was my first visit to Mamma Mia, and this review is just my opinion... not sure how long they've been there but i've heard somewhere around 2018. Somebody please let me know if i'm wrong. Anyhow other than a few minor misses, the experience absolutely lived up to the name Mamma Mia as these were my first words when the Tomahawk Steak showed up,and the expectations I had walking in were brought to life. THE GRUB: The tomahawk steak was true to size and flavor - huge in size, incredibly tender, and cooked perfectly from edge to center, with a beautiful crust and tons of flavor in every bite. The fettuccine with Bolognese served alongside it was very tasty and well-seasoned, though the portion felt a little small compared with the impressive size and the price of the tomahawk, not a complaint just an observation, i knew I was ordering a tomahawk and I expected the price, thats not the point. The ribeye was also a highlight: well-sized, tender, and cooked exactly as ordered, making it another great choice for steak lovers. The fettuccine with butter sauce on the side was on the average side, but still tasty and comforting with a simple, buttery flavor. Service was wonderful; the waitress was very sweet, attentive, but she let us enjoy our meal coming in at just the right time and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the visit. The bread, unfortunately, was the low point of the meal; it was fairly plain, basic Wonderbread texture and the chopped olive topping that came with it (and i love olives ) was a slight disappointment, as an olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip would have been preferred but that's my opinion. The butter was served cold, which made it harder to enjoy with the bread and didn't match the otherwise excellent execution of the steaks and pastas. As my Granny(G-Unit) would say "Y'all gotta do better honey" The beer was nice and cold, and between that, the perfectly cooked steaks, and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant, this first visit to Mamma Mia did not disappoint and is easy to rate as a solid 4.5-star experience but unfortunately there are no 4.5 star ratings on here, so you get a 4 star rating Mamma mia.Thank you for everything. I called ahead and asked some questions about the menu offerings and then decided to make a reservation. I placed my expectations low. I now have to eat a gluten free diet, which ummm, Italian basically equals pasta. But I told myself there was salad and so, off we went on a Saturday evening. The waiter was so nice and made sure my food came without gluten. He even allowed me a substitution for my pasta without hesitation. The bar offerings were great and the wine selection was good too. The dining area is a little noisy when it's full. So keep that in mind for those who can be overstimulated. The service was great and while it wasn't fast, it was precise and predictable. Went in today for lunch and I hadn't been to Mamma Mia in years! The food was delicious we ordered the pasta purses for an appetizer and they were amazing our waiter made great recommendations and was efficient. The salmon was delicious, was beautifully caramelized. The Sofia salad was added to the side of my meatball sandwich and it was light and refreshing perfect for a hot sunny day. I would say that the complimentary bread was good initially but if you don't eat it right away it turns hard as a rock. But overall a good dining experience and will definitely be back. read more

The drinks- We tried the old fashioned, sangria, lemons drop, and espresso martini. All delicious. The food- sub par. I got the herb chicken and was served just the butter noodles while waiting for the chicken. The service- I got up and told the waiter Omar I did not want that chicken anymore because it was far too late and it had taken way too long. (Everyone in my party had gotten their food and some were already finishing) I sit down and Omar attempts to bring the chicken out saying "what am I supposed to do with it?" When we had asked him to explain something on the bill he said "not like it's that much" after he added a $4 cake serving fee for the utensils he provided us with to cut the cake (he did not serve it, it was our own cake) At minimum it would have been nice to have that communicated to us before seeing it on the bill. When making the reservation it was also not communicated to us that for large parties they don't do individual checks. You can split between 3 cards or cash. read more

After around a 20 minute wait, I had to ask a buss person from a different section to help, which she did and I truly appreciate it. We finally decided to try Mamma Mia and man... it was totally worth it! So many Elite Yelpers all agreed that this place was definitely a great restaurant and I knew I had to see for myself. We went for our company Christmas dinner 2 Christmases ago. After this visit, I have been wanting to go back but I always forget about it. Food is on the pricier side, so if you want to splurge a little then come check this place out. Food was amazing, I would not mind spending here because the food is close to perfection. We even made sure to get dessert because we had such a great experience and even the dessert was the icing of the night. The restaurant is a decent size so if you have a big party I think they can accommodate. Dress code is casual. I was charged a cake service fee which was a first. It was either $20-$30 fee. I would not cry over $5-$10. I believe Mama Mia has forgotten that they reside in Bakersfield not Las Vegas, Miami, etc. we may have a few boogie people living here, but come on. The charge you see for $85 was for a special they had (surf & turf) about 10oz sirloin mignon accompanied by two shrimps and a scallop. The other $85 charge was for a Trio special which included a sea bass fish, a scallop, and two shrimp. Both dishes came with a side of either pasta or salad. We only came here for lunch because Luigi's was closed for lunch on that day. If you're able just go to Luigi's instead. read more
