Had my daughter's 26th B-day at Fredo's in Bakersfield with the family and it did not disappoint. Right when we walked in, the vibe felt welcoming and relaxed, perfect spot to sit down, enjoy a good meal, and just unwind. You can tell this place has a strong local following, and after eating here, it makes sense why. The food was straight up delicious. Everything came out fresh, hot, and full of flavor. You can taste the quality in every bite, nothing felt rushed or thrown together. Definitely one of those spots where you leave full and already thinking about what you're ordering next time. Service was excellent. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made sure we were taken care of the whole time without being over the top. That kind of service always stands out. This place is such a vibe. it's dark, moody and really makes me wanna listen to Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin. We came in for an early dinner as elder Millennials and were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't super busy, overly loud and that we were seated immediately. We had a few minutes to look over the drink menu first. My husband went with his classic Margarita, and I tried the one in a Melon. HOLY COW were the drinks STRONG!!! We decided to get a pepperoni pizza and the bruschetta. The pizza was large enough to feed both of us. Though the menu was limited, I loved everything we tried!! The pizza was perfectly cooked with a nice cheese pull and the bruschetta was fresh - with the peach salsa giving it an elevated flavor! I came here with my girlfriend for the first time, the seating can be a little limited but they have a really nice bar and an upstairs patio for reservations. The music and decor are such a vibe, great for date night or catching up with a friend. The bruschetta app was delicious, the pizza was good, but there wasn't anything too special about it. I came back to Fredo's last night & was not pleased with how the shrimp add-on to a dish still cost $5, but now I get 5 pieces of shrimp instead of 7 like last time. A dollar per shrimp is insane. Service was very slow & it was a weeknight, so not too busy. My friend waited for her pizza well over 15 minutes after everyone else got their food. Our server was very friendly. Roberto was our waiter and he was a straight 10/10; attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect without ever being overbearing. We also had the chance to meet Fredo himself, which honestly made the whole experience even better. Super genuine guy, easy to talk to, and you can tell he really cares about what he's built. We visited Fredo's on 19th Street around 5:20 p.m. on a Saturday -- which also happened to be Valentine's Day -- so we expected it to be busy. They open at 5:00, and when we walked in, the entire first floor was already almost full, so there must have been a line before we arrived. The ambience was beautiful and inviting, and since it was our first time there, we were excited to finally try it after wanting to visit for a while. The hostess initially went upstairs to look for a table, but we had to let her know we weren't able to walk up the stairs. It would have been nice if accessibility had been noticed or asked about beforehand, especially for guests who may have mobility limitations. That said, once we mentioned it, she did accommodate us with a table on the first floor toward the back near the kitchen. We could hear some dishwashing sounds, but honestly the music selection made up for it -- they played a great mix of oldies and mellow songs that really matched the vibe. We even complimented our waiter on it because it fit the restaurant perfectly. We ordered the mango and shrimp ceviche, which was absolutely delicious -- fresh, flavorful, and definitely a standout. The only downside was the chips served with it. They were extremely hard and very large, which made them difficult to eat. I had just been to the dentist the day before, so I had to break them apart and chew carefully. I even had to tell my boyfriend to be careful while eating them because I didn't want him to choke. I asked if there might be a softer option like crackers, but there weren't any available (though the waiter kindly offered to open another bag). Unfortunately, the replacement chips were just as hard. Aside from those small issues, we had a wonderful experience. The pesto pistachio pizza was amazing, my drink was great, and overall it was such a nice evening out. We definitely plan on coming back, and this could easily become one of our regular spots. If they ever switched to softer, smaller chips for the ceviche and were a bit more attentive to accessibility needs at seating, it would easily be a five-star experience. read more

It's garnished with a dried orange slice to enhance its presentation, but the flavors truly speak for themselves. Together, my friends and I shared a charcuterie board. It consisted of burrata cheese, brie cheese, three different cured meats, olives, jam, honey, pistachios, chocolate chips, and crackers. It was a good accompaniment of sweet and savory. Let's break this down. Prices were not terrible that is a plus. The cocktail menu had different options another plus. Breaking down the cocktail may not be fair. The Goat had clarified blue cheese. Sipping you can taste the gin with an after taste of funk but I knew it might not be for my palate. This is a unique drink and flavor. The appetizer was fine happy hour was smaller which was fine. The Italian stallion pizza is advertised as sausage, mushrooms, onions, and garlic confit. All you taste is sausage I dont think I had a mushroom and when you got a prices of the garlic it was delicious there just wasn't enough. Cannolies were not good, the filling was grainy with no taste. Overall I can say I tried it maybe I would bring out of town guests for a unique cocktail but this will not be on my rotation. Not normally a fan of sweetness in my cocktails but the tamarind in 88 miles per hour just take the drink to the next level. Have always gotten friendly and prompt service and chatted with the staff. At times drink do take a bit to come to you but for the quality it is worth the wait (they do not batch cocktails ahead of time like a lot of places in town). read more

After coming here twice, here is my personal experience. Mind you these are just my opinions. My meh is someone else's greatest of all time. Pros: -Drinks are great. I love that they have a creative menu and a classic menu. I love their melon drink and have enjoyed the others they supplied. -Decor is good and clean. Knowing what this space has been the last few years, it's interesting to see it as a restaurant. I have a soft spot for the space. -The wait staff here is very sweet and pretty attentive. Were very helpful and got me things i requested when I did. Cons/Nit picks: - The Pizza sauce is spicy. Not a bad thing. But as the base sauce for all their pizzas? Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. With the peach and salmon pizza, the sweetness combatted it. With a less sweet pizza? My partner had no issues, but I was slogging through it. I'm a solid medium heat girl and that last bite was tough. I was spitting out red pepper seeds. I wish they would let us know or give us the option of spicy or not. I keep forgetting and it's a surprise every time. -Seasoning was lacking. Ordered their bruschetta and it needed salt. Same with the pizza with the burrata cheese. The salted meat on the bottom is not enough to carry the dish. I had to ask for salt and pepper. I can see what they are trying to do, but it missed the mark a bit. I love trying out new and unique flavor combinations, but if you have a dish under seasoned or lack sometime that doesn't tie it together, it leaves for a lackluster experience. -Thin crust and thick toppings leads to a soggy pizza. I adore their pizza crust, but both times coming I had a mild issue with toppings. With the salmon and peach pizza, I wished the peaches were sliced instead of cubed. It made it harder to eat the pizza when they kept falling off. With the one with had this last time, the large, cold, piece of burrata quick made the center soggy and hard to maneuver. Overall the food quality and service isn't the issue. I can tell that they have good wait staff and good quality ingredients. Drinks are just great. They however miss the mark when it comes to finishing touches and for the price of the food, I want to the taste as well as the presentation. I do plan to stop by one more time to try their most traditional pizzas, but this has been my experience so far. read more
