I have been to the other Sonder location, but this was my first time stepping foot inside this newer one to meet up with some friends. It is a pretty popular location, and there were plenty of people during the time we were there. We were seated in a booth and even recognized people in the table next to us! The interior design is very similar to their other location. Very chic, modern, and clean. I ordered The Girlfriend burger which had a Wagyu patty with arugula, horseradish, grilled onions, bacon jalapeño jam, gorgonzola, and creamy garlic aioli with a side of their regular fries. The presentation was great, but the flavor packed into this burger was incredible. The sweetness from the jam paired with the creaminess of the aioli blended together so well! I love pickles, so I was happy to see a pickle spear on the board as a nice touch. The fries were perfectly seasoned and were a nice mix between wedge fries and regular fries. So if you're stuck trying to decide on a burger from Sonder, I'd recommend this one! read more

Sliced tomatoes were too thinly sliced. Mashed potatoes lacked flavor and fluffiness. Muscato wasn't sweet enough and in fact tasted like a white Pinot gregio- dry and light. I've been making it a point to explore more local restaurants around Bakersfield in search of my new go-to spot, and that's what brought me to Sonder on Brimhall. I stopped in before the lunch rush, so it was surprisingly quiet when I arrived. The manager greeted me right away, which made for a welcoming first impression, and there was plenty of parking. The restaurant offers a lot of seating both indoors and on the patio, giving it a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. My server was knowledgeable about the menu and recommended the pastrami sandwich with pickles and yellow peppers. It was a great recommendation. My favorite item, though, was the bruschetta appetizer. The only downside was the pace of service. Even though there were very few customers at the time, it took longer than expected to receive attention throughout my meal. I really wanted to like Sonder's new location because their other spot has such a cool vibe. Walking in, the space looks great--modern and stylish--but the food was a major letdown. The buffalo cauliflower seemed like raw cauliflower with lukewarm buffalo sauce poured over it. No crisp, no flavor--just sad. My steak salad wasn't much better. The meat was stringy and greasy, and the oil completely wilted the lettuce. The one saving grace was the cocktail, the Handshake. I wouldn't call it mezcal-forward--it was more like a smoky chocolate espresso cocktail, almost like it had a touch of wood-smoked essence. Absolutely delicious. It's honestly baffling how the drinks could be so good while the food was the total opposite. Come for the cocktails... definitely not the kitchen. read more

We came here as a party of 4 for brunch and the vibes and food were fantastic. We really wanted to check out Sonder's newer location and I'm so glad we did. I believe our server's name was Opie and he did a great job of making sure we were taken care of and was very attentive to our table. The monkey bread was a great appetizer for our table to start. Met up with some friends for brunch and had a very enjoyable experience. So many good choices on the breakfast menu (offered until 2pm) and the lunch menu. We each tried a different entree, and all 5 were big hits. Came in for a late lunch with a small appetite. We were warmly greeted and seated immediately. Vibes are nice, everything looks clean but the food was not so good. I ordered the Sonder Cobb with chicken and my partner had the Nachos with steak for an additional cost. Food arrived in a timely manner. Chicken on salad was dry and very salty. Nachos arrived with hardly any cheese and a whole lot of refried beans. Honestly felt that the whole nacho dish came from cans, especially the beans. On top of that there was maybe like a total of 7 small (smaller than dime size) pieces of meat on the nachos. It was quite embarrassing to even charge extra for meat if they will hardly give you any. We ordered the Brussels sprouts (a usual favorite), the pastrami sandwich--which was delicious--along with onion rings, and the chicken piccata served with a baked potato and vegetables. Everything was very good and the service was great. The chicken piccata was a little different from the traditional preparation; it was enjoyable. If you want store bought air fried sweet potato fries, store bought manicotti not even warmed up properly, bland Walmart Mac and cheese, this is the place. I was so excited that an additional restaurant opened up near my house. I go to Chef Lino's all the time and I was expecting some high-quality food for the price that they're charging. Unfortunately, I came in and it is literally all store-bought. Nothing in here is made. It is all warmed up and bland and they're using the location to try to get a clientele to come in and overpay for food that they purchased at Walmart. We finally tried Sonder, and we are so happy we did!! Everything was seriously amazing--I'm honestly overly impressed. We tried the lemon pepper wings, the wedge salad, and the girlfriend burger, and every single dish was equally delicious. Zero complaints across the board. I also loved how extensive their lunch menu is--I'm already excited to go back and try more. Beyond the food being great, I absolutely loved the location and the ambience. Our family came for lunch on a Saturday. Not busy, hardly anyone there (which is typically worrisome, but it might be because this location is new). The grinder sandwich and the Cubano were a major hit. The poke salad was very fresh. Chicken street tacos were pretty mid. They handled an allergy very well, knowledgeable about the menu and able to recommend adjustments. Nice aesthetic, seems like it would be a great place for evening drinks and dinner. read more

Visited Sonder for brunch & it was an interesting experience. I ordered cranberry juice for bottomless mimosas & it tasted like WATER. Not a hint of cranberry in the juice. Asked for pineapple juice instead & it was much better, more concentrated. Then we received a cup of water with a CRACK, thankfully we caught it before something bad happened . . . On the bright side, our server was kind & resolved both issues without a problem. I noticed that the place just opened up not too long ago & the menus are already falling apart. Laminated menus would be nice, probably easier to keep clean too. The food was delicious which makes up for those problems but I think they could've been avoided. I enjoyed an avocado toast salmon lox & prosciutto toast. My favorite was the prosciutto! I loved the amount of avocado on it, the prosciutto was flavorful & the egg was an excellent touch on top. The pizza dip appetizer was also delicious. Extremely cheesy, tasty pepperoni & tomato sauce. Sat outside because the weather was nice & their patio is cute. They had a DJ inside. We've been to Sonder twice now, and both visits have been very good. The food has been consistently great, and we'll definitely be back. On our latest visit, I had the pork belly tacos, which were excellent. The homemade chips were fresh and flavorful, and my wife enjoyed her hamburger and fries as well. Everything came out hot and tasted great. The service was a little slow, but it's a new restaurant, and you can tell the staff is working hard to get everything dialed in. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and eager to help. One thing we like is the outdoor seating area. Depending on when you go, the atmosphere can be lively and energetic or more relaxed and quiet. We've never had to wait for a table, which is a nice bonus. Being located in the Bel Court Center makes it especially convenient for us, and it's quickly becoming one of our regular spots. Good food, friendly people, and a comfortable atmosphere. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

Today's visit was disappointing. I've been to this restaurant three times in the past month and have ordered the same item each time, yet it's been slightly different on every visit. Consistency and presentation really matter, especially when you return expecting the same quality. I ordered the chicken and waffles again, but this time it fell short. The chicken didn't taste fresh and appeared to be pre-made chicken strips rather than properly prepared pieces. The gravy also lacked a fresh, homemade taste. My eggs were slightly undercooked, and I wasn't given any utensils with my meal. Positive note: The Waffle was good and it was topped with fresh berries. I'm not sure what changed, but serving what seems like reheated chicken strips--possibly microwaved--is not acceptable. I hope the restaurant can address these issues. read more

I've always enjoyed the food at the Brimhall location, which is why this experience was disappointing. My wife and I arrived at 8:00 a.m. for breakfast, expecting the restaurant to be open, as both your posted hours online and the signage on the window indicate an 8:00 a.m. opening time. However, the location was not open, and no one arrived during the 15 minutes we waited. If the restaurant does not reliably open at the listed time, I would strongly encourage updating the posted hours--both online and on-site--to reflect accurate operating times. Clear and accurate hours help customers plan their visits and avoid unnecessary inconvenience. Unfortunately, after waiting, we had to leave and go elsewhere for breakfast. No one ever checked on us, ever after the food was dropped off, I finally just ate part of my food, which wasn't to my liking. Our water glasses were not refilled. Love the vibe of the new place, great location and would give a 5 star to the aesthetic. The drink and food experience was far below that. 4 pm and no other customers, service was quick and friendly but it was surprising the lack of knowledge that our server had regarding the menu (simple things) and the number of selections on the menu that were unavailable (several wines). The biggest disappointment was the charcuterie. I love a good charcuterie and this was a major fail. LARGE charcuterie board had 6 teeny slices of bread and 6 small pieces of meat. The cheese was cubed cheddar and white cheese (think grocery store deli, not gourmet cheeses) and the rest of it...well, here ya go: sliced hamburger pickles, whole tomatoes, a pile of golden raisins, a pile of peanuts (really?), red onions, dried apricots, walnuts, grapes, a pile of hard figs and some jam. Definitely not a coordinated charcuterie experience. It needs a serious overhaul. I recommend looking at some of the charcuterie business sites and seeing how they assemble and what they include. Came in the afternoon one day. Sat outside as the inside felt stuffy. We were one of two tables at the place, and they still got our order wrong (despite repeating what we wanted). The Cobb salad was bland (Chicken was dry and the bacon was cold, not crispy. The lettuce not too fresh). Service was average at best. Not a repeatable experience.
