I'm so excited that Bakersfield FINALLY got another fried fish spot! This place is not in the best neighborhood but please don't let that deter you. It's pretty small inside so it won't be great for large groups but the employees are friendly. The guy that gave me my order informed me that this place is originally from Louisiana and this store is the only one in California! I ordered the 4 piece fish combo and chose the fried okra and red beans and rice for my sides. I also added the fried green tomatoes to my order. I'm not a fan of catfish but this was good. The seasoning on their food is SEASONING, okay?!!!! The fried green tomatoes are delicious without any sauce but when you dip it in their homemade tartar sauce and hot sauce it's amazing! I'm not sure what kind of roll it is that comes with their meals but Hot Damn it's bomb! It's like a soft pillow, almost like a beignet but not as airy. I didn't eat my food for about 40 minutes or so and the roll was still so soft! I will definitely hit this place up again and give the fried chicken and fried shrimp a try! This place just opened up yesterday. It was their second day. They have chicken, fish, and shrimp. Everything I had on the combo plate was breaded. I got a side of fries, cole slaw, and a freshly baked bun. The owner told me this was a franchise. They were from Louisiana and were looking for opportunities in Bakersfield. As with any new business, it is going to take a few days to get the place up and running. You can eat inside. The tables and chairs looked comfy, but I opted to take out. The walls are a little sparse, but I'm certain they will dress the place up nicely. The owner was very nice and you could tell he had a passion for this business. If you enjoy fried food, this place is ideal for you. I am not a fan of fried food, never was, but I love seafood so I thought I'd see what was available. The menu is pretty limited and generic. I ordered the three shrimp and three fish strips combo with fries and fried okra. The shrimp was rock shrimp, which I am not a fan of, but the batter was light, delicious and well-seasoned. The fish? I was not able to tell if I was eating tilapia (which I am not a fan of) or catfish. It was quite salty and over fried. When I went in, the place was packed. Ordering is not difficult and the staff is very nice. The packaging is clean. The eatery is more designed to be a to-go place but there are a few tables and chairs for dining in. I first heard about this new spot on Yelp. After reading several reviews--especially one from a fellow former Southerner who said it was as close to home as you could get--I was instantly intrigued and decided to check it out. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted and given a brief history lesson about the franchise, which primarily originates from Louisiana. Every question I had about the menu was answered promptly and thoroughly. I later realized that the friendly, enthusiastic gentleman taking my order was the owner himself, Omar. Prices are more than reasonable. I was informed that a few menu items will be added over the next few weeks, so just keep in mind that this is a new business still getting fully up and running. While I waited, I was offered water, and in less than 15 minutes, my order was ready. The staff even kindly helped me carry everything out to my car. Once I got home, my family was pleasantly surprised--and definitely not disappointed. The entire experience brought back memories of home in the South. The food was piping hot, well-prepared, not overly seasoned, and appropriately portioned. My personal favorites were the okra, catfish, and the buns--they were delicious! I wasn't particularly impressed with the condiments, but my daughter absolutely loved their house sauce. Overall, a great experience. But you know what, you don't need the butter. I got all the sauces. Honest, nothing special about the sauces. The starter isn't your typical white tarter sauce. It had spices but not relish. Finally... Fried fish in Bakersfield that taste fire. Food is fresh and hot. We got the fish and chicken plate with fries and hush puppies. Fish fire, chicken fire (better than canes), hush puppies fire, fries fire. Last but not least the roll (which I wasn't going to eat or try until I touched it and it felt deep fried...fire, it tastes like a beignet without the sugar. Overall 9 out of 10 will try again. I got the 3 piece fish and chicken fingers. My wife got the 3 piece fish and shrimp. The fish was good sized and tasted ok i asked my wife to get all the sauces which i think she did. Problems with the sauce cups were they were all between 1/2 to 1/3 full. Also i could not tell if there was tarter sauce it tasted like ranch. We got something that looked like cocktail sauce, one hot sauce and two sauces that looked and tasted like a chickfilet type sauce, two white ranch or tarter. The chicken strips were very good they were perfectly breaded and the seasoning was good. they were also juicy and on the larger side for chicken fingers. Wife said the shrimp were large and tasted good also. for the sides we got fries that were generous and good, red beans and rice which was fairly bland, hush puppies my wife said they were ok and the coleslaw which i likes because it had a lot of sauce and it was not dry. we also each got a roll but neither of us tried it. The price was fairly good at 17 per plate. I would have given a higher mark if they filled up the sauce cups. Also, no lemon for the fish. read more

Me and my wife went there last night for dinner and it was absolutely amazing. The catfish is some of the best I've ever had. Mama's house better watch out. We had shrimp chicken strips absolutely delicious. The coleslaw was delicious. The fried green tomatoes, hush puppies, and fried okra were all so good. My nephew from Georgia called me about this spot when it first opened, wasn't even on Yelp yet, he was pretty excited. Said this is the closest and best fried fish outside of Georgia and he's serious about his fish fry. I had all, fish, chicken and shrimp I never had fried fish in Georgia but I've had my nephews (delicious) this was no different (also delicious) hush puppies were the best I've had. Today I went to the new Chick O' Fish for lunch. It is a brand new establishment that's only been open to 2 weeks. I tried several items on the menu to see how things tasted. I had the deep fried shrimp, the Chicken strips and one fish fillet. Everything is fresh and cooked to order. For the sides I tried the hush puppies and french fries. Absolute 5 Star rating! My family is hooked on this place!! Hands down some of the best and most fresh fish you can get in Bako, and their chicken is good. They dont have their full menu yet, but what they have is phenomenal. I came a couple days after opening and have already came back, definitely a staple for my family when we feel like eating out now.
