We were at a fundraising event with food trucks on-site. We were looking for a healthier option for lunch, as my husband's dietary needs changed (heart patient). I had never heard of Bentley Bowl, but we decided to give it a shot. He absolutely loved it. Sweet potatoes, greens (his favorite, which I never cook), grilled chicken, and that cornbread. Oh. My. Goodness!! I'm not a fan of greens. However, these are great. I love the sweet heat sauce available for the fried chicken bowls. Is it cheap? No. But, you're getting quality food - and a lot of it. Definitely worth the splurge. Great job, guys. read more

The sides are it. Sides carried my meal. Got the signature bowl but swapped the greens. All of the dang sides were good, even the cornbread blew me away. Sweet heat is pretty good too. I just have two issues: 1. A little expensive in my opinion, definitely hard worth if it was a little less expensive. 2. I wish it came with more chicken! I can let go of #1 if I had more chicken in my meal. I do intend to go back to try more sides and more sauces but in general the food is really good. If they do more options for their mains I'll definitely hop in. These brothers are doing a good job feeding the downtown community and I hope they thrive even more. read more

Bentley Bowl - Bentley Signature Bowl (All Star - The Medium Bowl) - Soul Food Near Me - Bakersfield, California

Tried this at the night market and was pretty happy! I got the Bentley signature bowl. Chicken was cooked very well, not dry for me at all (which I'm always nervous about). I tried the strawberry heat sauce and it was DEFINITELY strawberry heavy but in a good way. Greens and yams were great! Mac n cheese was a bit bland and the cornbread a bit overdone. That being said, I wasn't a fan of the dessert I got. I think it was the dessert of the day, I forget the name but it was a brownie in a jar of some sort. It just tasted like poor quality box brownie that was dry/overbaked. Wish I would've tried the peach cobbler instead or just not had a dessert from them at all. read more

Shout out to Bentley Bowl for their generosity and providing free meals to KCSOS employees and law enforcement who were directly affected by Tuesday's events. The business stepped up and handled the rush during lunch hour with professionalism, patience, and care. The bowls were bomb.com and deliciously prepared. Great to see community coming together to make Bakersfield strong! read more

OMG just go!!! Can't really say enough good things about their food. Super crisp moist chicken bites. Perfectly cooked Mac N Cheese. The greens are some of the best I've tasted and I'm from Georgia. I know greens. The yams will make your grandma jealous. And that sweet but yet dense corn muffin was delicious. The only thing I would change would be.... who am I kidding absolutely nothing!!! read more

Bentley Bowl - Oh MY Yumminess!!! Swae Signature Bowl (MVP - The Large Bowl) Sooo much food and totally packed with awesome flavors!!! - Soul Food Near Me - Bakersfield, California

I can't get enough of Bentley Bowl! I always get the Bentley Signature Bowl, "MVP" size. It hits the spot every time. Every flavor works so well together. From the fried chicken to the Mac n cheese to the smothered greens and all the goodness inbetween. I didn't even know I could love a sweep potato this much, until I had their sweet potatoes. And the cornbread is soft on the inside with the perfect outer crunch. Truly, heaven in a bowl. They do some amazing in house hot sauces, and you don't want to skimp on those. I brought my brother with me on my last visit, and tried the BBQ Fry Bowl he got. It was of course delicious as well. The Waller brothers and family team making the magic happen are extremely kind and friendly people. They have a way of making you feel like a part of the greater Bentley Bowl Family. Of course, a special shout out to Auntie Ora who seems to always be in the kitchen or onsite, working her magic. She always greets me with a warm smile and asks me how I am doing. They're truly the sweetest folks. They often run regularly out of their kitchen in downtown Bakersfield, though they still keep the food truck very active and you can find it regularly at all of greater Bakersfield's best events. Their instagram is great way to keep up with for the most up to date location of the truck. read more

Stopped by Friday afternoon hoping to see inside the new spot but it was not opened. The food truck was outside and serving. I ordered two signature bowls, some cobbler, and a drink. I was excited to support this local soul food truck because two amazing young men work hard to make it happen. We ordered through door dash and tried the "make your own" bowl. My husband raved about the fried chicken because it's made with thigh meat and has a crispy fried batter. They provide great service and aim to please their customers. The food is good but the packaging is impressive!!! Above and beyond with classy red bowl and beautifully packaged gold forks! Are you kidding me?!!! Wow!!! Plus a Bible verse on the side. Congrats to this family. You are making Bakersfield proud. read more

Bentley Bowls - Authentic Southern Soul in Bakersfield! Born in Birmingham, Alabama and raised in a true Southern family, I'd like to think I know a little something about soul food cooking. And after ten years of trying just about every spot in Bakersfield, let me tell you--none of them come close to capturing that real, heartfelt, down-south, slow-cooked, made-with-love flavor like Bentley Bowls does. Every bite reminds me of home--comforting, flavorful, and soulful. This place knocked the cover off the ball. Amazing, amazing, amazing. Visited the Beale library yesterday and seen the Bentley Bowl's food truck in the parking lot. Been wanting to try out this food truck for a while. Ordered the mac and cheese and chicken bowl and my daughter ordered the vegetarian bowl. The chicken was perfectly fried and the Mac and Cheese was absolute perfection. Creamy and cheesy and paired so well with the fried chicken. My daughter's vegetarian bowl was delicious! Perfect mixture of sweet potato, the vhicken, dirty rice and corn. Came here for the Yelp Block Party. They were offering little bowls that contained some of the items on their menu. The bowl included Mac & cheese, 1 of a kind cornbread (I still day dream about it), collared greens, sweet potatoes, & of course chicken! The chicken had a perfect balance of crispness, spice & tenderness! They were also giving out peach lemonade & ommmg hands down 10/10! I can not wait to go back & bring all my friends! I had been looking forward to trying Bentley Bowls after following them on Instagram and unfortunately missing them at the recent Southwest Night Market. When I saw that they were open at their headquarters location on Truxtun Avenue, I decided to place an online order. My order was prepaid and confirmed via email at 3:06 p.m., with an estimated pickup time between 3:26 p.m. and 3:41 p.m. About 10 minutes later, I received a call informing me they had run out of rice and asking what substitution I preferred. At that point, I assumed my order was being prepared, and I was genuinely excited since I had been looking forward to their chicken, collard greens, and Purple Sippin' drink. I arrived at 3:32 p.m. and noticed a line of about 10-12 people at their truck. At the pickup window, I was told they were running behind and that it would be about 20 more minutes, which would put my order ready around 3:51 p.m. I agreed and waited. When I returned at 3:56 p.m., the line had cleared, but I was informed after several minutes that they had run out of seared chicken as well, and it would be another 10-15 minutes. At that point, nearly an hour had passed since placing my order, and after already being called once about a shortage and then asked to wait additional time, I requested a refund. The staff member who processed the refund kindly suggested I return on Tuesday, but unfortunately, I left with the impression that my order had been deprioritized in favor of walk-up customers. With the line gone and my order still incomplete, it felt neglected. This was disappointing, especially since I had driven specifically to their location for the experience, and I had high expectations based on the many positive reviews regarding both their food and service. Sadly, my first impression did not reflect that reputation. read more

I love their food!!!! The orders are served fairly quickly and the people that work there are all friendly and always smiling. My family and I attempted to order from this restaurant three separate nights, and each time, we were unsuccessful because of wildly inconsistent and unreliable hours. Attempt 1: Google Maps hours didn't match Apple Maps hours. They directed me to check their Instagram. Attempt 2: Their hours were only posted on an Instagram story, which expires after 24 hours, contradicting the permanent schedule on their Instagram profile. Attempt 3: We messaged them directly to confirm their hours, which they stated were until 5:00 PM on DoorDash. However, they were closed by 4:40 PM. As a result of this repeated confusion and misinformation, three dinner plans were ruined. Until they can establish one, reliable source for their operating hours--and stick to it--I cannot recommend this business. Young owners still learning how to run a business. Update: Addressing the Owner's Response The owner's response only confirms the immaturity and inconsistency that led to this one-star review. Instead of taking accountability for their confusing operating hours, they chose to attack my feedback and brag about their academic credentials, which are irrelevant to running a professional business. Here is a point-by-point rebuttal to the owner's claims: "You were FULLY made aware of our hours" This is false. My frustration is rooted in being given multiple, conflicting sources for your hours. Attempt 1: I have screenshots showing a conflict between your Google Maps and Apple Maps hours. Your team admitted to the confusion at the time, providing a half-apology and directing me to a third source: Instagram. Attempt 2: Your "permanent" hours on your Instagram profile were contradicted by an expiring Instagram Story. It is an unreasonable expectation for a customer to have to check a temporary story every day to figure out when they can place an order 3 days later. This is not a sustainable or professional way to communicate your schedule. "How was your dinner plans ruined 3 times, when we clearly spoke in IG" The third failed attempt occurred AFTER speaking with you on Instagram. Attempt 3: I messaged your account directly that day to confirm the closing time for DoorDash, and you confirmed 5:00 PM. I have a screenshot of this conversation. When I went to place my order at 4:40 PM, you were already closed. This confirms the operating hour you provided me with was false. "It do not show the DoorDash hours. As those are not physical hours, but delivery hours!!!!!!" This is an absurd and irrelevant distinction, and their own posting contradicts it. I have a screenshot of the schedule they posted (like the one showing 10/1 and 10/2), which clearly states "DoorDash ONLY!" next to the specific operating hours. For a delivery customer, the delivery hours are the only hours that matter, and regardless of the platform, the time you post must be accurate and consistently honored. My Conclusion Stands: My review was about inconsistency and unreliability. The owner's highly defensive, overly personal, and unprofessional response confirms they are not ready to handle critical feedback or operate with the standard of clarity customers expect. My three dinner plans were indeed ruined due to a constant stream of misinformation, and until they can establish one, reliable source for their operating hours--and stick to it--I cannot recommend this business. read more

The food was homemade with love and deliciousness! The staff were friendly and made the suggestion to try the strawberry cornbread. Amazing! We tried their classic Mac Bowl which was mac & cheese and their bite-size fried chicken. My favorite sauce with it was the barbecue! Sweet and tangy. The cornbread was fresh crunchy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. I got one of the original and one strawberry cornbread. Both were delicious, but the strawberry is divine (tastes like funnel cake) we also had their homemade Sweet Tea and Lemonade -chefs kiss We'll definitely be back! read more

I'm writing this because I know the owners are going to read it, and I need them to know that this is by far some of the best food I've ever eaten in my life, ever. Bentley Bowl - Signature bowl - Soul Food Near Me - Bakersfield, California

If you haven't pulled up to this truck yet, you are straight-up trippin'. These two dudes are out here **putting their entire soul** into that grease. Whether you catch them posted up at their kitchen downtown or spot the lights at the Bakersfield Night Market, you already know the vibe is immaculate. I've seen them at random events all over the city, and honestly, I'll follow that smell across town like a cartoon character floating on a cloud. The fried chicken? Absolute fire. The crunch is so loud it's basically disrespectful, and the seasoning is hitting in places I didn't even know existed. I'm talkin' juicy, salty, crispy perfection that'll make you want to go back and give the cook a high-five and a hug. But the real star of the show? That mac and cheese and those yams. Listen, they go together like a **happy marriage**--the kind of love story that makes you want to cry. You got that silky, gooey cheese hugging those sweet, syrupy yams, and it just hits different every single time. It's that lsweet and salty combo that's basically a cheat code for happiness. And look, I'm telling you now: do **not** leave without that peach cobbler. The crust is flaky, the peaches are tender, and the cinnamon is hitting just right. It's basically a warm hug in a container. Even when the line is wrapped around the corner at some pop-up, these boys are moving fast, doing magic tricks with the spatula. No cap, this is the best soul food in the 661, and if you don't catch a food coma after eating this, you did it wrong read more
