Finally had the opportunity to try Pollo Campero after one opened up in my neighborhood. The fried chicken was excellent. It almost has a red golden brown cross to it. But that's just all the flavor. And the flavor is not just in the fried chicken skin, but also in bed into the chicken itself all the way down to the bone. The grilled chicken was also very great tasting and was all well seasoned. Being that today was the opening day. The service was a little bit on the slower side being how busy they were, but I have no doubt that within the next couple of weeks that'll be something that they can improve on. The chicken was juicy and tender with fun flavors bursting with every bite. The side macaroni and cheese was a little over cooked but had good flavor. The fried plantain was good, maybe a little under cooked but still not bad. I feel like maybe the come frozen, which makes sense because it's so hard to find good fresh ones. It came with two corn tortillas that were good. Over all the meal feed me and my husband and was just a tad over $20. For the price I feel like the flavor and friendliness is worth the money. Nope, and it's quite a shame as well. Great location, highly visible, brand new everything and all that was needed was a decent product. Unfortunately, Pollo Campero failed to deliver even as much as a semi-passable offering. The parking situation is tenuous as it is cramped and there are quite a few cars sharing the space with Texas Roadhouse. Parking on the next lot over by Dave and Busters is better, but good luck playing Frogger as you cross the intersection. I will say that the staff seem very happy and all have big smiles and don't look over stressed during this opening month. Now the food situation is the main let down. Pricing is fair, but after receiving the product, it seemed less so. I got the 3 piece meal with the white meat upgrade along with the Mac n cheese and fries. The chicken was dry and the spices were overly citrusy. The Mac n cheese was overcooked and pretty bad. The fries were cold. We asked for fresh fries but it never came to the table. Was hesitant to try because of some of the reviews, but didn't want to cook dinner so hit their drive thru. We had the slow roasted chicken, plantains, yucca fries, and an empanada. Everything was really good. The chicken was flavorful, lemony, and cooked well. Plantains are not served many places, and these were delicious. The dipping sauce for the yucca fries was really tasty. Then comes another family. They received their food immediately even though we were in front. We have to wait another 25 minutes for our chicken. I asked for my refund and I have to wait 15 more minutes for the transaction to be done. I lost an hour for nothing. My recommendation follows the number and remember you get paid by your. Also tried the grilled chicken which was juicy, flavorful, and overall delicious. The fried chicken is crunchy and flavorful, no complaints (and I rarely enjoy bone in chicken unless I make it myself). The sides I tried (yuka fries, Mac and cheese, and plantains) were good - not amazing but not bad. The empanadas are also really good, the filling was delicious but it could've been crispier.
