Reviews long overdue, came here sometime in June / July, while visiting a buddy of mine running delivery operations for Temu in the city of Bakersfield. The place is situated near a gas station, next to a Starbucks. Wasn't a fan of their parking. But let's get to the food for value ratio. Houston's was Overpriced, Mediocre, and I think you'd have better value at a Raising Cane's. Honestly, I know there's been so many duplicates of this Nashville style hot chicken but in my eyes, the King of it all is still Howling Ray's in Chinatown, Los Angeles. For a multiple geographical location brand of Hot Chicken Sandwichew & Filets, the honor goes out to Dave's Hot Chicken --- they win for QA & Reach. Ok, so we went to go check this place out because we have been wanting to and it just so happened that after an appointment it was before the dinner rush and we remembered so to Houston Hot Chicken we went. The employees were friendly and it was very clean. We ordered a classic chicken sandwich, a loaded fries and a 3 piece tender in medium because we all like hot. I ordered a cucumber watermelon lemonade which was so good! Our food came out quickly and gave off a very nice first impression. We dove in and the ingredients all tasted really fresh which was a plus however the chicken for all 3 dishes had absolutely no flavor at all. Usually medium is pretty decent spice level but there was nothing. I'm not sure if it was just an off day and because of how nice everything else was we will probably give it another shot soon but ultimately it was disappointing this trip and the flavor didn't live up to our expectations at all. It was fresh and delicious, the only thing that is not consistent about the food is that sometimes when you order spicy it's not at all and other times, it is way too spicy, which was the case this last time I visited. So I guess it depends on who's ever in the kitchen and what mood they may be in! (LOL) My son had his usual favorite, which is the chicken sandwich that comes with the tender and fries. He also ordered an extra tender on the side. The pickles at HTHC are so delicious. Sometimes I order a side of them! If you ask for extra pickles, the restaurant charges you a $1.00,, or you can buy a side for $2.99. The staff is always friendly, and the service is fast. The person who took our order at the front counter, was so sweet. His shift ended while we were still enjoying our dinner, and he stopped to wish us a good evening and that he hoped we were enjoying the food! Came in around 545 and there was a few tables occupied. The outside was very clean and the inside was tidy and updated. I love the chicken mural on the wall gives it that artsy modern vibe. The pricing was fair for the meal definitely the bang for your buck. The staff was extremely friendly as I tend to be a needy client asking for sauces and customizing my meal. The employee was super sweet and smiled the whole time saying is there anything else that sounds great and also gave recommendations about the meal. This is our second time here, the first time was an Elite event. We loved the food and service so much we couldn't wait to return. This time my hubby signed a waiver to get the "houston we have a problem" fusion fries. It is with Carolina reaper and scorpion powder. My plus one and I really enjoyed our visit to HTHC. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and we really appreciated that the employees took their time to explain the menu and heat variations. The location is a little hidden. We relied on maps to get us there, but you really need to know to look for it. The place could use better signage on the main road. You have to take a road along side the gas station and wrap around to the back. I hope that gets straightened out. We ordered the chicken sandwich and tender meals as well as the cheesy sandwich. We ordered regular and medium heat. The medium had a kick to it. I'm a bit of a wimp to any heat but I was able to tolerate it. I definitely won't get anything more spicy. The fries were very crispy, almost like a thick outer texture. I'm still not sure if it is too crispy. Can that even be a thing? Overall, everything had a great flavor. I like the bright colors of the interior pictures. I'm not entirely sure how it is all supposed to relate to the restaurant but it is definitely colorful and interesting. After having tried this new restaurant through a Yelp event we decided to come back and try something different. We even brought our kids this time around. The staff are so friendly here! I mean top notch with being helpful and patient, making sure to explain the menu and help whenever you have a question. I ordered a regular watermelon cucumber drink but was given the frozen version. Even though I said it was ok and I'd drink the frozen drink I was still brought out the regular drink. This time I tried out the Texas Caesar Salad. Again, the chicken was amazing! I enjoyed the salad I just wish it had more lettuce. The portion was really small and with the small size of the bowl there isn't much the employees can do. The salad itself had great flavor and I really enjoyed the shaved Parmesan. The hubby went with the sandwich and tender again but decided to try the medium and mild spice levels instead this time around. He said he really enjoyed these levels of spice since the spicy was just a bit too much for him. My kids tried the chicken sandwich with the honey butter spice level and the tender and Belgian waffle plates. Both said the chicken was delicious! I really love their fries though. The fusion fries had a lot of flavor in it that I wasn't quite too sure about. The mango bites were interesting and sadly, the fries got soggy way too quickly. The chicken was good. I found out about this place through Yelp. it seems like a fast food joint, but in reality it is a good food fast joint. We order the Chicken Salad, the Texas Caesar, for $13.99. I thought I get the extra chicken for $4.99 because we were splitting the lunch. It turns out this is unnecessary. They give you generous portions with all their meals. I love their chicken. They say it's never frozen, free-range. I only know it is tender. They have a variety of sauces - from mild to super spicy - so you get the seasoning you like. Even at the busy lunch hour time, our food took less than 10 minutes to get to our table. The order staff is efficient, and they bring the food right to your table. The seating is comfortable, although in one section you're sitting a little high. But there is a cushion, so it's not that bad. The Mild chicken has some nice mild flavorings, But the medium level chicken is where it's at! loved the perfect amount of "spiciness" to it without it being overly spicy. The fries were also a hit! Crispy, hot and seasoned just right!! enjoyed very much!
