First visit trip to an Ono in over 15 years (had a coupon). My wife and I each ordered chicken katsu. It was the worse katsu I've had in 50 years. We ordered right when they opened at 11, but the katsu didn't look like it was just made. It had the appearance of reheated yesterday katsu. The chicken was very thin, overcooked, and not really hot. The breading tasted like reheated old oil. The macaroni salad also tasted off. The rice and salad were fine. The Onos we went to in the Los Angeles area in the past were always consistently very good. We will give them another chance and order the teriyaki. read more

Went here dinner, the wait after I ordered was a long wait. I ordered the mixed plate of steak and chicken. When the order came I was not offered soy sauce, or chili. Definitely a classic for me. Ono Hawaiian BBQ has been a spot to satisfy my craving for chicken katsu. This spot is located in a plaza with a huge parking lot. They have indoor and outdoor seatings. The to go area is clearly marked so no awkward looking around. Our food was ready when I arrived and even had utensils in the bags. The issue we ran into is the Mac salad, If you've ever had the Mac salad here you know how amazing it is, but this time not so much. It tasted basic, like salad you buy from a grocery store. We were so disappointed! We had all been craving that salad and it was terrible. Food is good, I'm just curious regarding customer service. I've been standing for about 2-3 mins and no one is approaching me, and I've seen a worker by the front counter putting sauce on little containers, and no one in line but me. There were 3-4 people at the back/kitchen and 2 people in the counter supposedly and no one said "I will be with you in few seconds or minute" then the worker finally approached me, how can I help you? she has nice eye brow/eye lashes have a little sparkle on it. I tried this place for the first time after a spin class. I got the fire chicken mini meal-perfect for one or even two people. The marinade/seasoning is extremely similar to what's used to make al pastor meat. The meal comes with one scoop of Hawaiian Mac salad and and 1 scoop of white rice. I made it a combo , which only came with an order of fried wontons, not sure if drink is supposed to come with a meal but i wasn't given a drink cup or offered one. My order was to go so it was handed to me and the worker walked away from me so I could t really ask about the drink. She didn't even ask if there was anything else I needed nothing handed my the bag and asked away which is why I gave it 4 stars and not 5. They greet you when you walk in and they will take the time to go over the menu if you're new! I got the grilled chicken mini meal. It was the perfect size! Didn't feel mini to me. The macaroni pasta was so good! The rice and veggies were also delicious...but I would go home with a bucket of macaroni pasta. That's my jam (and what helped me gain the Junior 30 in college). After I walked in and ordered, there was a huge line that formed. You know it's a good place when more people are coming through the door. The food was hot and the grilled chicken had a ton of flavor and was juicy! Nobody likes dry chicken. Went to the newer Rosedale location and it was really the same as the East Side location. Good food at a good price. The staff is always nice and even when busy, they keep things moving along well. They keep the place very clean, and keep it moving on the food. I'm a fan for sure, but only go once in a while because I like the super greasy/fatty Kalbi Ribs and so have to only order once in a while. Their food is so good though, really love it.
