We went for the first time to this location a few days ago and again today. Service was great and the food was delicious! The fish & chips is a must have. The batter on the fish is very tasty and crispy. We also tried the French dip which is made with Tri tip and added Swiss cheese and grilled onions and that was really good too. My son ordered the burger and he said it was ok. While there we saw a plate come out a that looked amazing, it was one of the specials called champagne chicken. We were originally seated at a booth and like most booth seating, you're lower than the table because you sink into the seat. I requested a table and we were reseated at a table /booth combo; better than the previous. Our orders were taken promptly and waitstaff was attentive. The atmosphere was very casual and not overly loud or crowded. I ordered Mossman's Original Fish and chips. The fish was seasoned perfectly and fried to perfection. The fries were undercooked and a bit hard. The coleslaw was bland. I probably wouldn't order this dish again. My sister order the chicken and waffles. It consisted of several chicken strips and one waffle and a homemade maple syrup with jalapeños. She said it was delicious. My niece order off the kids menu. Four pieces of French toast and two strips of bacon. She said it was ok. I also ordered onion rings. The onion rings were served piping hot and fried crispy. The meat in the French Dip was so tough we took it home for the dog. Pastrami was tasteless and dry. Staff was friendly.

We came in around 7:15 on a Friday night. The restaurant was not busy at all, yet the service was some of the worst I've experienced. We ordered 5 drinks and only received 4. When I asked about the missing one, the waitress actually said, "Sorry, I don't have an extra hand!" -- completely unprofessional. When the 5th drink finally came, it was missing the lemon we had specifically requested. For food, we ordered 2 kids' meals and 2 dinner meals, one with soup and one with salad. All 4 meals came out quickly, but the soup and salad were forgotten until we reminded the waitress. Same with the dinner rolls -- which we again had to ask for. None of this should have happened, especially when the restaurant was clearly not busy. Again we got the " Sorry, I don't have an extra hand!" Comment after each side dish came out. Instead of paying attention to her tables, the waitress spent her time chatting behind our booth. The food was fine, but the service was absolutely horrible. When I heard Mossman's was getting their own restaurant outside of the bowling alleys, I couldn't wait to go! Bakersfield has long been missing a good fried fish restaurant since the departure of my beloved Sea Breeze. For those who don't know, Mossman's took over the Broken Yolk Cafe on White Lane and Buena Vista. It doesn't look like there was any serious demo done to the building just new decor. The place is huge and I we hope that soon it will be to full capacity. They have a HUGE outdoor patio with plenty of fans and even Roman shades that can be rolled down when the sun is beaming. The day we went, they had been open for just over a week and there was a steady stream of take out orders being picked up. There are a few kinks they need to work out, mostly with cooking the food in a timely manner, but I'm sure they're up for the task. So the hubby and I both ordered the Original Fish & Chips but substituted the slaw for a garden salad. The fish was light and flaky, it was just missing the seasoning (This is where I began reminiscing about the good ole Sea Breeze days). Our fries weren't as crispy as I would've liked and they were also unseasoned. The salad was okay but they put it in the world's smallest bowl so eating it without making a mess was impossible! The biscuit was delicious! So light and fluffy! My daughter ordered the French toast and said it was good. I'm hoping that our food "issues" are attributed to new restaurant kinks and will eventually get worked out. Can't say how happy I am seeing came here. I personally don't like going to the location in the bowling alley because of the noise and how everything smells like feet. This new location is such an improvement. Even though they didn't change the ambiance much from the previous restaurant, it still had a bit that sets it apart like the new pics in the wall. The food was great. My husband got the signature fish and chips and said it was excellent. My oldest daughter and I split the pancakes and the chilaquiles and both were delicious. My middle daughter also got a three stack and loved them. Our server, Junior, was so friendly and helpful. They just opened and normally it's my rule to Wait for a month or 2 before visiting a new restaurant because it takes them that long to work out the kinks. But I had a lunch meeting and they wanted to go here so we went. The interior is just a lightly redecorated version of the old restaurant. Staff was friendly but our waitress was not very attentive. She Took a long time in between visits to our table and We kept having to ask for things like silverware, refills, etc but we weren't in any hurry so it was fine. The menu seemed kinda small to me for this style of restaurant. I thought they would have more breakfast options like blueberry pancakes, crepes, etc like other breakfast places in town but they didn't. I did really like how for the omelets you could have 1 pancake as a side instead of toast. I loved the concept! Perfect for those salty and sweet combination people like me. I had the Californian omelet and it was pretty greasy, I think they just took all the pieces of bacon that fell off while cooking the bacon strips and then just shoveled that inside the omelet... it was oozing grease. The pancake I was excited about was cold and not round and full but flat/lopsided. I think I was right about waiting, I'll try this place again in a month or two and see if more training/time helps them out with the service and food quality. read more

We were excited to try Mossman's once it opened so close to us. We ordered take out on a Friday night. My husband really enjoyed the fish and chips. He gave it a 9 out of 10. My son had a kids hamburger meal and we were pleasantly surprised at the size of the meal. It was a generous size burger and fries. I ordered the French dip sandwich with salad. The only reason I took off one star is because they forgot the au jus with my sandwich, otherwise it had good flavor. Next time I would have said to put dressing on the side for the salad if I were to do take out again. It was nice to have a side salad with plenty of added veggies and meats included though. They have breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the menu. Checking in when you first get there so you can have your name written down for a table is also where customers pay their bill when they're ready to leave. It was a bit chaotic when we first arrived. Plus, there's a booth where customers can sit and wait for their name to be called in front of the cashier. Where the cashier is is already a small area so I didn't like that. Something really needs to be done about that area. The benches are still there in the front, so you can wait outside for your name. I did like the booths and tables, they are very spacious. Our waitress was very kind and I thought she did a great job. The tri tip sliders were so good. The rest of my food was pretty good. I wished my omelet had more cheese. There was no cheese inside, and it looked as if cheese was only sprinkled on top. If I do return, it'll be for those sliders! read more

I've been in three times since opening, and it's just so-so. The service is good, but the food is cafeteria like. Reminiscent of dinner time at a retirement community. The staff is so kind but it just can't make up for the poor food. When we were about to leave I hear loud music "bumping" from the back kitchen. How strange and weird, when Christmas music is coming from the speakers inside the dining area. Then I go back towards the kitchen towards the restroom and yep, it's coming from the kitchen. I really wanted to love Mossman's, I thought I did. Been to the Westchester location two or three times and attended a couple large events they catered. Delicious! But not today. Maybe it was the fact that it was 3pm on a Sunday or maybe they're not that good anymore but I was sadly disappointed. When we sat down my son tried to talk me into leaving. I should have listened. Enjoyed a delicious breakfast sitting in Mossman's outside large patio. Our waitress, Gayla, was so sweet and kind and gave us excellent service refilling our waters frequently, taking our orders efficiently, and bringing our food out promptly. She recommended the special of the day which was a farmer's skillet. The eggs were nice and fluffy which covered the crispy bacon pieces, sausages, and ham smothered in gravy for that comfort country food taste. We visited the new Mossman's location yesterday and were seated right away at 4:30pm. Greeted by our waitress immediately who was friendly and quick with our drink order. Our food order was taken within 10 minutes and I'd say we only waited another 10-12 minutes for food for a table of 5. We got the fish and chicken strip dinner with budget salad. I didn't think there was anything "budget" about this salad. A nice portion with chopped turkey, ham, and a hard boiled egg was such a nice touch. Fish was crispy and flaky and their chicken strips are always good! We also got an order of the Chilaquiles which were good with a nice spice to the red sauce. My mom ordered the French Dip and was equally impressed. The other two in our party loved their dinners as well. Our table also tried the chicken and waffles and onion rings which were both so good! The chicken and waffles are served with a bacon syrup and the onion rings are cut thick but are sweet and crispy and served with ranch. The housemade yeast rolls are light and fluffy. Food was a 10/10. Now let's talk about service! Amazing. We were greeted and taken care of by multiple staff members who cleared dishes as we finished items, made sure our drinks were always refilled, checked in to see how everything was or if we needed anything more, etc. Everyone was friendly. I was craving a burger and being in Bakersfield there are many options. On the way to this specific location this restaurant is right next to a Carls Jr. which was our first choice for something quick but my partner and I decided to support a local business instead so we chose to walk the few extra steps to Mossman's. It was not so busy and we sat at a dimly lit booth where we were greeted by very polite and pleasant waitresses. They were quick to take our order and our meal wasn't long before it was ready. I ordered the Ortega burger while my partner ordered the bacon cheeseburger. Both excellent. The Ortega burger I highly recommend over the Ortega burger at Tiny Marie's (also located in Bakersfield) this Ortega burger was juicy and perfectly seasoned. They do cut their tomatoes a bit thick but that's great since I love tomatoes. The fries were okay but definitely elevated with their delicious ranch that I mixed with buffalo sauce for my own kick (highly recommend trying this mix) we didn't even ask but the waitress brought us seasoning salt which paired delightfully with the fries and burger. The burger also comes with a pickle spear (hell yeah) our drinks were constantly refilled and combined with air conditioning for this Bakersfield heat, it was a great experience. Excellent customer service and great food!
