Coconut Joe's has been a staple in my family for just about as long as I can remember. They're a long time, go to for my father and I after work outs and post practice meals in my youth, as well as a regular for plenty of family nights. Coconut Joe's is still a welcomed regular at any family gathering and a personal favorite of mine to this day. They've always had a strong burger. The huli huli burger n fries which is their pineapple burger is my favorite. For family style eating, their half pack and full packs are perfect. Their tri tip is good on its own, but with the corn, rice, and coleslaw mixed in with it is next level and the flavor always brings me back good times. The vibe inside is super fun. They fully embrace the surfer theme and have surf decorations wall to wall. Their televisions play classic surf trip movies which are fun to watch. Sometimes in the winter they will play snowboard and ski trip videos. Back in my youth, this was one of my favorite parts of the experience. I still love it, but don't get to dine in as often as I used to. They're great for take out, though I find the burger and fries are best enjoyed fresh in the restaurant. read more

The last time I ate here was 11 years ago, prior to that we frequented this location. The food is still flavorful, and I was not disappointed in the least, however, my son and I did find that we had to order 3 big plates in order to get full (we each weigh 200 lb). The service was top notch, and the ambiance is over the top wonderful (as always). We had the tri-tip, bbq chicken, and then split a large plate of fish & chips. The fish was about half of what you would get at lengthwise for a similar price, but very delicious. The tri-tip was as good as I remember and waaaaaaaaay more flavorful than Harris BBQ (on Buena Vista). The bbq chicken was delicious, but the drumstick was the size of my index finger, so small compared with 11 years ago, but all chicken seems to be getting smaller and smaller at all restaurants. Overall, we are happy with the results, and it's nice to see that a restaurant that weathered COVID and all the price hikes is still making quality food. (We only took off one star for portion size as at $66 for lunch, there are many places that will fill us up...such as Lengthwise). read more

This restaurant was near a charging station so we ended up stopping here for lunch. It looks like it's probably a restaurant chain, but the food was decent! The kids menu items are super affordable too. I ordered the fish and chips for myself, which were cooked nicely but I would have preferred a little less batter. My husband ordered the barbecue sliders. I wasn't really expecting much, but it actually came with a lot of meat and I liked that they served the sauce on the side so you could control how much you want. Since moving to Bakersfield four years ago, I always wanted to pop into this place. From the outside, I got the impression that it was a full on steak and seafood house. I was surprised when I walked in and found that it is a casual Hawaiian barbecue inspired Spot. When you walk into the place, it's like you're at a beach spot at Paradise Cove in Malibu or in San Diego. The menu has quite a few options for meats and plates. The restaurant offers both surf and turf options and you can get those in a bowl, burrito, or tacos. Since it was our first time there, we ordered a few things: Javi's shrimp tacos, lobster roll, chicken, gumbo, and Kahlúa pork sliders. Our sides included coleslaw, whole beans, and french fries. So the way this works is you walk up to the counter and order from the menu and then you go find your spot and they either bring it to you or call out your name/number. If you've ever been to Wahoos fish tacos it's very similar to that set up. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and since it was our first time they allowed us to taste a few of their side items to ensure that we would enjoy them. There is plenty of seating at this place indoors and outdoors. The indoor seating can accommodate large parties by putting tables together. Came here for a friend's birthday dinner. One of the few places that still will reserve a room for large get together. It was really easy, you order at the counter and they bring it out to you. I was stuck between the fish tacos and the burger with pineapple. I went fish since is a fish joint and got beans and corn as my side. My wife got the fish and chips and a carrot cake. I also remembered to add a side of spicy ranch. Chips were mid. Definitely not crispy enough. Lacked seasoning. My fish tacos were great, i do wish they did not use oil and semi-fry the tortillas. It defeats the point of trying to eat a healthy grilled fish option. Next time I will make sure to make that request. 4 stars Beans and corn were surprisingly good. Jalapeño ranch was good! If they did their fries better it would be killer for dipping! The star of the show was the carrot cake. It was so good I had more than just the bite I initially anticipated. Moist, not too sweet. Visited here on a whim since I always forget this place exists! It is nestled within a busy shopping center. The location is fun and fresh, it definitely gives tiki/ Hawaiian vibes! We always enjoy this place whenever we go. The food is great, the service at the counter is always helpful and friendly, and the place is clean and fun. Love the tiki Hawaiian atmosphere because it reminds me of my dad who loved Jimmy Buffet. During our latest visit, we got the lobster roll, the tri-tip meat platter, the kids grilled cheese and burrito and a luau burrito. The atmosphere was very beachy and pretty cool. They have a very large canoe hanging from the ceiling. It's like being at the cost here in town. The food was excellent. The lobster roll tray was big enough for two to share. The burrito has a sweet sauce we would have preferred to be left out. Everything was super good and made fresh to order. For the last 3 Friday nights, we have gone in to dine before 8 pm, and they are always out of lots of food. Last week was rice. Tonight was chicken, tri tip, and coleslaw. When we asked the young man in sun shades why, every Friday night, they are out of something over an hour before closing, and he responds, "Because people eat here" My husband asked me if I wanted to go somewhere else, and the young man puts out a smurk and says "Later" We love eating here every Friday night. But we will not be returning with customers service like this. Things are very expensive these days and we can't help that. Our committee held a birthday celebration for the US Army's 250 years in existence at Coconut Joe's Banquet Hall on Easton, just behind the AMC 6 Theaters. It was held on Saturday, June 14 for all of the soldiers that served for the last 250 years! Assisting us with any needs that cropped up was manager Juan Valenzuela. Juan helped us in so many ways when it came to making our event a glorious one. He was willing to bend over backwards to help us in any was possible. Juan will make a very good owner one day. I'm so honored to be his friend and am very thankful for Joe as well. I definitely recommend this wonderful get away tropical oasis and its wonderful banquet hall. I have a love hate relationship with this restaurant. Service is always fantastic, and I am never disappointed in my food but I swear every time I come I try to order the dang gumbo and they are always out or not available. No joke prolly the past 4-5 visits same thing. I've never once gotten to try it. :( so for that aspect I'm docking you 1 star on this review. Aside from that though I've had lots of items here but my most recent visit I got the Huli burger, holy damn it was a tasty burger, the meat flavor was great and had a good char flavor. I've been seeing this place a lot as it's right across from the hotel I stay in for work so I decided to try it out. I wish I could give 3.5 cause it's definitely a solid place to eat! Like I've said countless times: if they have tri tip on the menu I'm gonna get it. I got a 2 meat platter with tri tip and chicken with the chicken gumbo. The tri tip was good but not amazing. Definitely better than a lot of others I've had. The chicken was also good but not the best. Needed a little bbq sauce. The chicken gumbo though was amazing. Had a nice little kick and was a tasty treat and great way to start off the meal. If you're around Coconut Joes I'd definitely say to stop in as you won't be dissatisfied. It has been awhile since I have reviewed this place and I have been eating here regularly for some time. So I usually eat the fish n chips, I still usually order to go. The food is hot and fresh. It is not uncommon for the fish or fries to melt a hole in the to go box. The fish is good, has a crispy breading or batter on the outside and the fish itself is flaky and tender. The fries are fresh and very tasty. They serve this dish with some coleslaw but damn, it is served in a tiny condiment cup and to such a stingy portion I say "why bother?". Seriously if the coleslaw is any good at all you want more than four bites, if it is not good, well you know..... Anyhow they have some really good tarter sauce as well as some ecxellent cocktail sauce. Pass on the cake though, for $4.00 a slice do not roll the dice, as it is frequently dry. The staff here is very friendly, they take care of customers well. There is plenty of parking outside and there are a few trees available for locking bicycles. There are some tables and chairs outside for eating just outside. I would recommend Coconut Joes. read more
