Honestly, I wasn't expecting this delicious of a Bloody Mary drink from a Mexican restaurant. Shame on me for assuming. It had a nice peppery kick to it, which marks a solid Bloody Mary, IMO. On March 8, we decided to have a family day with the kids and grandkids before my surgery on the 12th. We were craving Mexican food, and this has always been our go-to spot in Bakersfield. It had been a while since our last visit, and we noticed some changes--the restaurant looks different, and there's a new menu. Despite only one waitress handling the entire place, she did a great job, and Jose, who was helping her, made sure our drinks stayed full and kept the chips and salsa coming. He was really great! Everyone enjoyed their lunch, except for my daughter, who wasn't too thrilled with her taquito meal. My fajita dish (chicken, beef, and shrimp) had way more vegetables than meat, so I probably wouldn't order it again. Other than that, the food was good, and we had a nice time. Came here for some midday drinks and it didn't disappoint. I didn't get to try the food but they had a big variety of flavors for the margarita flights. We tried 6 different ones. They're a descent size for the price (about $5 each). The restaurant has a bar and outdoor area. Server was very helpful as well and multiple employees checked on us. Dined here with a group of coworkers yesterday. It is so nice inside and decorated super cool! To start, chips and salsa were delicious!! If you get good chips and salsa, you know the food will be good too. We all ordered different things. The fajitas looked and smelled delicious. Everyone that ordered them, loved them. I ordered the San Diego Burrito. It was big! It has steak, chicken and shrimp. It was very tasty but I really wish the chunks of meat were cut smaller. I also wished they would have added more chicken and shrimp and not so much steak. It was loaded with steak and it was supposed to be three meats. But all in all it was good. I have family in town staying with me over the long weekend. We had been sharing tiktoks about best places to eat in Bakersfield and this one came up for us. I really enjoyed the service and thought the waitress did a great job of balancing out when to come check on us and when to let us stuff our face. The food was really good. I personally had a huge breakfast and wasn't that hungry but the food I ordered was so good I ate about half of it anyway. The ambiance was actually nice except for it being loud as a NYC Train after a Mets game. It was so loud I had trouble hearing the person directly across from me. To put the noise into perspective, there was a group of loud people there that seemed to be having an amazing time. When they left it was less loud but still very loud. Bar tender made 2 drinks for a couple in front of them and poured more alcohol on one cup than the other. Upon giving them to the couple, bartender crossed her arms and gave the drink with less alcohol to the woman. Is this a protocol? Men get more alcohol because of simply being men? ****also beware that they assume you're paying with card. Why does this matter?? Apparently if you pay with card they charge you a cent fee that keeps adding up per so many dollars. If you pay with cash then you **shouldnt** get charged a fee, but you will!!! Where to even start, delicious food! I had them a year ago and now if I get the chance to go to Bakersfield this is the spot :) The tilapia Veracruz dish is so exquisite and flavorful !! so creamy and it comes out sizzling The service is nice and friendly, they do get really busy so that's the only downfall, which in really does to show how good of a restaurant they are ! They have a lot of different sitting areas and vibes in the restaurant . I was craving chips/salsa and a margarita and after a Yelp search we decided on Agave Grill & Cantina. It was not very busy when we arrived late Sunday afternoon. We were seated outdoors due to covid restrictions. I noticed that some empty tables had not been cleared or wiped clean. The menus had food debris on the inside pages. It was a struggle to keep the flies away from our food and many lingered near the entrance to the restaurant. Our drink orders were taken quickly. The Agave's Sampler was a pile of nachos with a few items on top. It was hard to distinguish what was what. My Girls Gone Wild drink was very tasty. However, once I noticed that the meat on Tacos La Paz was grey, I lost my appetite. Two meals, one appetizer, one alcoholic drink, and one lemonade totaled 65$. We won't be returning for that price and that level of quality of food. read more

I'll start with the good. The interior is nice and modern with a pretty cool vibe! We ordered the shrimp cocktail, 3 item combo and kids chicken and fries. The shrimp cocktail was the star of the show and what kept me from leaving a 2 star, it was really good and loaded with large shrimp. Definitely worth the $20. My combo had the relleno, taco and enchilada. The taco was ok, the enchilada was ok and the relleno was bad, the chili wasn't cooked enough and tough and it was FULL of seeds, not worth the $17 very disappointed. The kids chicken is just 6 frozen chicken nuggets and fries for $9 pretty steep if you ask me!! The service was ok. Nothing great or bad. The iced tea had no flavor as well. Also they have the bar really close to the restaurant and it was annoyingly loud with music and yelling it made it hard to enjoy our selves. Had a lunch date with my daughter. First we needed to use the facilities before we sit down and get comfortable. So,.I'm disabled and needed my daughters help to lift me up off the toilet,.so to know bar that I could hold onto. You could also smell the horrible smell of dirty bathrooms approaching them in the hallway, even though the bathrooms are updated with nice hardware and sinks,.and nice tile work. My daughter ordered the mole dish. You know it's good authentic Mexican food, of the mole is good. Well,.my daughter was disappointed. The mole was not even close to being somewhat spicy,.like no flavor, very bland. She had it to go, to give to her little brother. The prices are steep, but hopefully you can order something next time worth the money. Wish they could do something for that sewage smell. read more

We stopped in for lunch on Wednesday and the place was nearly empty, no wait at all. The service was good; pleasant, and our drinks were refilled before they were ever empty, which is saying something considering the amount of iced tea my boyfriend can go through. My boyfriend got the carnitas burrito, wet, and really enjoyed it. It was huge, and the bite I had of the meat was good, but the sauce tasted pretty 'basic enchilada & cheese' and didn't stand out as anything. My combo plate of chicken flautas and ground beef taco was not so decent. The chicken inside the flautas was dry and lacked seasoning, and the tortillas were a little undercooked. The taco was exactly the opposite. I usually love a taco shell fried in-house. Not so this time. The fried shell was overcooked and shattered on first bite, making it impossible to pick up after that. The meat was very salty, and there were so many raw onion chunks I had to scrape them off. Not much other flavor involved. Not a good taco. The 2 star review is a combination of Good service, Good burrito, Below average flautas, and Bad taco. This was our 3rd visit. All in all, I don't recommend. There are too many great Mexican food offerings in Bakersfield to spend money on the less than average. read more

Came during lunch with some co-workers to celebrate a birthday. They were able to easily accommodate about 20 people. The food didn't take long either being that we had a pretty decent amount of people. The venue looks great with a nice Spanish style to it. I haven't been here in a while but the times I do come I order the seafood nachos. I forgot how huge they are and it could honestly enough for 4 people. Looked pretty good off the bat with tons of cheese on top. At first I thought they skimped out on the seafood portion but it was all hidden under the melted cheese. Simple delicious Mexican food!! Just be aware when you order the mole enchiladas they are made with flour tortillas not corn. They are amazing and super good but I like corn tortillas better so I was a little disappointed but again they were still top notch enchiladas. Margaritas were delicious! My husband's shrimp cocktail was made with fresh ingredients, just the way he likes it. The margaritas were just as good as well. All in all good Mexican food. While waiting for our food order my husband ordered two beers to go that was ice cold (thanks to the bartender who worked 4/19/23) Service was fast and friendly. Mario made sure we had everything we needed for our takeout dinner that included chicken and spinach enchiladas with rice and beans. This visit was maybe the 3rd or 4th time eating at Agave for Mother's Day. It's a 15-min drive from our house, but Omar and his crew are awesome, the place is clean, and the food is fantastic! Brunch is $16 for adults and $6 for kids under 12. The adult brunch comes with either 2 mimosas or 2 margaritas, and an all you can eat buffet. Besides the traditional Mexican dishes found at most restaurants (rice, beans, homemade tortillas, Chile verde, fajitas), there were also all the classic breakfast items (eggs cooked to order, bacon, sausage, potatoes, waffles), menudo, bbq chicken and ribs, fruit, horchata, lemonade and a big dessert table.
