Highly recommend trying the coconut shrimp appetizer (perfectly crispy and coconutty), and the clam chowder (very flavorful and not too heavy) if they have it! The steaks are wonderful! I have been dining out for more than 50 years. This is the first time I ever had to wait over an hour for a 7:30 reservation. 8:30 and counting. All the other nearby"Plan B" restaurants are closing. And we are not the only ones. Unbelievably badly managed. When we were finally seated at 8:45, the service was good. They were apologetic and the food arrived quickly at 9:10. However, the food was, to be charitable, subpar. The steak was good and properly cooked (table stakes at a steak house). Everything else was pretty awful. The bread was stale and cold. The side salad (extra charge) was drowned in dressing and the croutons were dangerously inedible. The "whiskey peppercorn" sauce (extra charge) for the steak was congealed; clearly made way ahead and thickened beyond belief. It was mildly useful to moisten the desiccated, unseasoned mashed potatoes. But the worst was the side vegetables: over-steamed, unseasoned zucchini flopped onto the plate. They put steak on a plate with bad cafeteria food. It must be a completely demoralized kitchen. And that means bad ownership. read more

My husband's company has had their Christmas party at KC steakhouse for two years in a row and so far I have really enjoyed it. The waiting staff are very friendly and never let your drink be half empty. The food is always delicious. This last one we had chicken and tri tip. Both were sooooo good. Like for it being my first time I wanted a great dish and I do appreciate the help from our server, but my brother and I did feel sorta rushed to order. My favorite whiskey sour is from Eureka on Stockdale but the sours I drank here were really delicious. Different cherries in both drinks but both the drinks were excellent. Growing up in Bakersfield, I'm mad at myself for not coming any sooner to KC Steakhouse. Came by on a Saturday for my first time, and absulotely loved this place. The ambiance here was awesome. Dark, had a bar type feeling and it was a classy decoration that I liked. Menu was good and extensive. They have just about everything you would think a steakhouse would have. I decided to try their 9oz filet mignon, cost me $52 for the plate but IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY. My steak was cooked to perfection and tasted AMAZING. Hands down the best steak I have had in all of Bakersfield and I'm a huge steak fan fyi. The baked potato that was my side was also superb. Overall, my meal was a 10 out of 10. Our server and bartender were phenomenal. These ladies were on it and they were so kind! When you have great service and a great meal, you know you will be back. A reservation for 7:30 turned into a 1.5 hour wait and frayed tempers. It was Christmas week and there were several large groups having a raucous time and no desire to vacate well after they had finished their meals. The hapless waitresses were getting the brunt of complaints from upset guests who had made reservations and were forced to wait for more than hour. With most restaurants closing at 8 pm, there weren't other alternatives. We inquired about our seats several times and they tried to placate us with promises of tables about to be vacated. What they didnt tell us was that there was a bar full of irate guests ahead of us waiting to be seated. A couple walked by us who were incredibly angry. They had given up after a wait of more than 1.5 hours. We finally got seated next to a large multigenerational family taking over three tables. They had been there for a while and their orders had still not been taken. We were concerned that we would never be served so we insisted on ordering right away. Food arrived 30 minutes later. The steaks were good but not outstanding and all the surrounding dishes (bread, salad, mashed potatoes, gloppy green peppercorn gravy, and overcooked zucchini) were high school cafeteria caliber. As we were leaving, one of the guests from the large family group was standing outside smoking a cigarette to cool off. Without any prompting from me , he started a long rant about making a reservation 2 weeks in advance, getting there, being told there was no reservation, and being chided for not following up. I would have attributed these issues to the busy Holiday season. But I concluded that the overbooking is a recurring management issue related to greed or clueless time management or both. If the management took as much care in managing their bookings as they did in their thoughtfully curated Christmas decorations, they might actually be able to deliver a fine dining experience. read more

I have been hearing about this place for a couple decades and we finally got to go for a friends birthday. I absolutely loved our server although I cannot remember her name. She took us to the secret bar next door where we continued to party for our friends birthday. Upon entering this gem of a restaurant, the first thing I noticed was how dark it is. Next was how small the restaurant is. I liked the setup of the place though with the bar having a big presence overall. The drinks were great and so was the bartender. I decided to give the good ole ribeye a try and I am so happy that I did! It was cooked to perfection and the side of garlic mashed potatoes were on point. The hubby devoured his lamb chops and said they were amazing. We will be coming back to try something else and will for sure have some drinks! After reading reviews from just two days ago (google reviews), it's unfortunate to say that we had a very similar experience. We're not sure if it was because we're young or because of our race, but the service was disappointing. Everything felt rushed, our order was not prepared as requested, and the servers were not very attentive. We genuinely felt out of place during our visit. The steaks and even the sides lacked flavor, which was surprising considering our tab was around $150. For that price, we expected much better quality and service. Other places around town have treated us far better and served more flavorful food at similar or even lower prices. Sadly, we will not be returning. read more

We had dinner on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 8:00 pm. We did not have a reservation so we sat at the bar and had a cocktail while we waited for our table. I ordered an Amaretto Sour and it was prepared perfectly, it was delicious. My friend ordered a Paloma and she said it wasn't good but refused to send it back. There was a small band playing that night and the music wasn't overly loud, just some nice background music. Once seated a waitress came by with some "Love Shots" a Valentine's Day alcohol shot. The shot was $6.00 and cash only, unable to add to your dinner tab, I found this to be inconvenient. Nonetheless, we purchased two shots and they were ok, nothing spectacular. And probably won't purchase again. We ordered the jalapeño poppers for our appetizer and they were delicious. Nice size, filled with a cheese mixture and fried. They had a bit of a spicy kick and were served hot. They were freshly prepared, not oily/greasy. We were also provided a bread and butter basket. Bread was warm and butter packets were spreadable. We were also served beans and salsa. I had the NY Steak special (listed on the board). The steak was cooked as ordered and very flavorful. It came with a balsamic reduction and blue cheese, delicious. The steak was a nice size for the price. It was served with garlic mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were a bit on the dry side but delicious flavor. The side of green beans were okay, canned green beans with onions, stew tomatoes and bacon. My friend ordered the ribeye special with a chimichurri sauce, which was ordered on the side. The steak was prepared as ordered and seasoned perfectly. We both ordered the same sides. We both added a garden salad ($5.00 each) and what a disappointment. Do not recommend adding the salad, complete waste of money and awful. It was iceberg lettuce with 4 stale croutons. Beyond disappointing. I had a Justin Vineyard wine and it was decent. They don't have an extensive wine selection. Overall, food was good but our steaks were fantastic. The waitstaff was attentive and accommodating. We will come back because the steaks were that good. read more

A great hidden gem. Like stepping back in time, this historic steak house did not disappoint. Goes back to the 50's and has fabulous, old school vibe and ambience. We stopped by for a late lunch and we were warmly welcomed by the server and bartender. As first timers, great suggestions were giving and we really enjoyed our lunch of baked cod, their famous lobster Mac-cheese, and delish Chinese chicken salad along with a tuna salad sammy. I have to say this has always been my favorite steak house. But tonight it was beyond disappointing. Went out for an early birthday dinner and my steak was sad. Everyone else really enjoyed their food. All I can say is that for almost a 50 ribeye I'm disappointed. It was overcooked, appeared to be very small, and the killer for me it was very cold. I've never had food in this realm from KC. Don't know if I'll return but for my birthday dinner it was 100% sad. I will also add they brought me another drink I didn't ask for that I would not have ordered as I was wanting to switch cocktails. I will also add that the table side bread seemed to be left over from another table. They brought to baskets for 6 people and one had only two pieces that looked as though it was leftover( crumbs in the napkin that were no where near our bread).All in all the ambiance was ok but my food was sad the service was ok not even what I would consider good. The service here is horrible! The umpa lumpas here hate women.. . If you come bring a man, per experience the services is better with a man around. The owners daughter tried to talk her way out of the screwups, stating one of the bartenders was a bar back, when clearly she took our order and kept rounding on the men around us. I decided not eat the steak after the owners daughter took the steak and told me she would get me a new steak yet she brought the same piece of meat out, even after I told her I'd pay for a new steak. I specifically told her I'd pay for both steaks !!! What a horrible experience, but what can I say this is Bakersfield where the racism is real!!!! At the end, I placed my napkins over my meal and let the bimbo know I was done and no longer interested in the meal and to charge me for one steak (being that they just recooked my old steak). The nerve of the trash ...she brought my meal bagged up with the bill and said the owner thought you might like to take this to go. LOL I told the owner daughter, "excuse me do you not know about etiquette"??? How dare you send a meal to go when the customer puts a napkin and trash on plate!!! What is wrong with this place!!!! One of my favorites in Bakersfield! This has the old time charm and the first place I took my Honey for dinner. Steaks are always good and the shrimp cocktail is excellent. We came here during the holidays and this place is all decorated up!! Hillary was our cocktail waitress and she was on top of her game by making sure we didn't go dry. Emily did a fantastic job as our server and was crazy busy but we never waited for anything. Cassie the owner made sure everyone was well taken care of and filled in wherever she was needed. Made everyone feel welcome! Last but not least Aleena and Sierra kept things flowing and bused tables and waited on everyone. There ribeye ( my favorite cut) is always made how I ordered it and there lobster mac and cheese is so good i order 2 or 3 servings lol. My mother is a hard critic when it comes to her porterhouse steaks and she absolutely loved it as it was made how she ordered as well as my wife's steak. To add to the great service the first time I went was with my wife on a very busy night and was told I needed a reservation but they still squeezed us in. I've been going to KC Steakhouse for years and I've done numerous New Year's Eve and a couple of Christmas dinners plus other occasional events. When I see the two ladies who own this very nice restaurant you would think we had never been in their establishment in my life. No hi, or how you doing, nice to see you, Nothing . Let me start, the service has gone down. I cannot complain about the food, but last time we were in, we were put by the back door and forgotten about. Waited way too long for our dinner. Three tables that came in after us and were served. When we asked the waitress, did you forget us or something, she responded by saying the pork chops take extra time to cook. Waiting so long and the door opening up so many times it became chilly that winter night and I asked to be put in the main dining. After being reseated, my wife inquired again about our dinner and she said to her, can I get you a cocktail like she had forgotten who we were after moving just around the corner to a little warmer setting. After the third-party was served, we had to get up and leave and as we were leaving our waitress said, have a nice evening... We were blown away. I could only suspect she forgot to place our order. I cannot guarantee you would get the same service, but we were thoroughly disappointed in our last visit to KC Steakhouse.
