The first time we came here was great. The food is delicious so I thought Valentine's Day would be perfect. We came at 6:30 for our reservations, which were made via txt but we weren't on the list. That wasn't an issue though we were seated. The waitress took like 20 minutes to bring water we finally placed our food order around 7:20. We finally got our food at 8:25 pm. My mash potatoes were cold and tasted like boxed mash potatoes little flavor, the salmon 0 flavor. Just tasted like salt and that's it, my fiancés steak was just ok also the veggies served were just carrots little flavor and were basically raw. Saying I'm disappointed is an understatement. We drove an hour out here for a good experience and we could have just gone to our local Applebees for what we got. And the total was $120 In my opinion not worth it. read more

I was so excited to try this place out and was unfortunately let down. We called and made a reservation days prior, spoke to a guy named Deon. Show up on day of and they didn't have our name down, but were willing to sit us down. They end up sitting us in a 6 seat table and state we may need to share it with another couple. Weird, but okay. After some time I notice them sitting multiple couples in the same area. 30 minute passed by, no server had approached us. This was Valentine's Day, so I was being patient as it was very busy. Then I finally notice the server approach other couples that had arrived after us. I catch her attention and advise her we were there way before all the other couples. She proceeds to take our order. One hour passes and we they bring us waters. One of the waters had hair in it. Yuck! Our alcoholic beverages were in tiny cups but not bad. Two hours pass and they start bringing out food for other couples. That was the last straw! I asked to speak to a manager and I was advised there wasn't one?! On Valentine's Day?? Another couple asked to speak to the manager and they had been there longer. They complained for cold food, missing items and the fact no one was checking in on them. My husband and I were excited to hear about this new restaurant. We are foodies and we love trying new places, especially seafood restaurants. This is not your typical ceviche place, I could tell the chefs and the owners put in a lot of thought into the flavors of the dishes. I also like that they didn't copy the Tulum hype that restaurants have been doing here in Bakersfield. The vibe felt a little bit more elegant and classy. Be ready for smaller portions than you're used to, that are a little bit pricey, but as our waitress said, it's quality not quantity. Additionally, our waitress was knowledgeable about where the food was sourced from! I got a rainbow colored drink, and it was one of the best drinks I have ever had. We were unaware that if you order two drinks before 7pm you get the Botanas Camarones Al Veneno on the house which was a great treat. Their chef was out that day as well so we had to lean on trying their ceviche and aguachiles since their kitchen was down. Which was a bummer. The establishment is beautiful has very nice art and a wonderful view in the evening of the lights that reflect from the airport. Bartender Junior P. Has great customer service skills and can pretty much make any drink. Bartender Junior even takes the time to conversation and gets to know his customers, made me feel at home. Also server Dee was amazing very attentive and great personality. First, the food is amazing. Both the head chef and the sous chef are incredibly passionate about the quality of their food, and are very deliberate about expressing their inspiration in their dishes. Second, the mezcal collection is off the charts. This stands toe-to-toe, and often exceeds, any of the agave bars I've been to in Carmel, Los Angeles, or West Hollywood. Third, the ambiance is wholly unique for Bakersfield. It's such a celebration of Mexican heritage, both pre-Hispanic and modern. South Union isn't the most glamorous of neighborhoods, but the owner's insistence to bring it here, to HIS underserved community, speaks volumes about their mission. It's both admirable and audacious, and basically something you would never expect from anybody but, maybe, an owner who teaches an AP Spanish literature course at South High. Very nice and thought out restaurant. It is beautiful inside and the owners are very hands on and welcoming. The first time my friends and I went we had made a reservation but upon getting there we were informed their kitchen was down and they apologized for the inconvenience. We still stayed and lounged, played games, and took turns reading poems from the little library they have in the lounge area. One of the owners, the wife, came out to apologize to us for the kitchen being closed. She noted we had a reservation so she offered us a $100 voucher for the next time we'd come. She also gave us a free bottle of imported mezcal. It was delicious. We had a great time. We returned two weeks later and they honored the voucher. The food was tasty. The pastas are a big serving size. I ordered the steak pasta. Definitely hearty and filling. The other owner, the husband, gave out free shots of a seasonal drink he created made from guava. It was very good and refreshing. I ordered their horchata liquor drink, it was definitely very strong for me. It's made with mezcal and you could definitely taste the smokiness. Although I will say you get a good amount of alcohol for the price. I couldn't drink it and they gladly remade me a new drink. It was a coffee liquor drink, it tasted less strong and tasty. The restaurant is definitely still growing and I see it becoming a hot spot. Great layout, nice waitresses, good food, amazing drinks, and attentive owners. My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant about a week ago. We had no preconcieved expectations, however we quickly discovered a gold mine! The service, the ambiance , the FOOD- I mean ABSOLUTELY SUPERB! The quality of service , the artwork, down to every detail is full of amazing, intricate and unique elements. I'm absolutely astonished to say the least, to have found a restaurant in Bakersfield with so much depth and diligence in their craft. The steak was absolutely phenomenal! The dessert was also mind blowing, bewildering! The contrast of the sweet with the habanero Purée, a must try. THE DRINKS are beautiful and aesthetically pleasing, not to mention delicious! The couple who owns this beautiful masterpiece are both very engaging with their staff and anyone who steps foot in their establishment. I suggested Memento Mori Cevicheria & Mezcal Lounge to friends for taco Tuesday. It looked delicious and had positive reviews. What a disappointment. Yes, it's gorgeous but that's where it starts and ends. They don't provide chips and salsa; I know that a few places don't but based on their prices this place should. They don't have beers on draft (which I could let go of) so I ordered the margarita flight. The waitress emphasized that it was tequila, which I thought was weird since they call themselves a mezcal lounge. Drinks were ok, but a little sweet. I ordered 3 tacos- 2 carne asada and 1 shrimp. The carne asada tasted like pork, all 7 of us thought so. We asked the waitress and she said "yeah our carne asada does taste like that." Hmmm. Then for the shrimp taco it was fried; I wasn't expecting that. The salsa lacked flavor as did the tacos. We were all unhappy and hungry as the tacos were tiny and barely filled (more tortilla than anything). One of my friends, got the ceviche which we all tried and again questioned what it was. Odd, given the place boosts itself a Cevicheria. The service was mediocre at best. Food is getting pricier by the minute. . .I want to enjoy it when I go out and I am not just looking for a photo opp. read more
