A lunch date with the hubby

Came for the Summer Fest to hang out with friends. I enjoy a live band and I got there just in time to watch the infamous Joe Peters/co-owner of the bar. He was good, I can see what all the hype is about. I hadn't been here in a while and noticed they extended the outdoor patio area quite a bit. It has plenty of ceiling fans built in for those terribly hot summers Bakersfield is known for and also heaters for the winter. Overall this place has definitely gotten an upgrade. We all know about Chef Lino coming in and turning the kitchen into one of the most talked about ones in town and believe me it's warranted. The food is amazing!

Cool little spot, nice bar, friendly folks, great atmosphere, a little loud, good food, great drinks. I had the stroganoff, wife had the bbq ribs on special. Both were really good. If we ever overnight nearby again, we will be back.

The service by Eric was excellent. However, to go from a pint of beer to a 12 oz for the same price is crap. If you're going to switch from more to less at post it somewhere. That's shady and a rip off. Have extra glasses of pints if you're going to charge the same. Keep it fair.

New York steak, jalepeno mashed potatoes. Parm fries and cilantro pesto pasta.

Went there on Friday for dinner. Arrive around 530 and place was pretty empty which I was surprised. For apps we ordered bacon wrapped pickles and jalepeno poppers, both were decent. For dinner we ordered the New York steak and cilantro pesto pasta. The steak had great flavor, was just a bit overcooked as we asked for medium rare. The pasta was very good, I would definitely recommend trying that pasta dish. Will be back to try other menu items.

This rib eye special with delicious sauce was so amazing, the hit at our table. Wish this was an option on the regular menu!!!

It is date night, and I told my man I wanted to go to Pour House though I went last week lol. Thursday night seems to be a popular night. A good number of other customers, yet it was easy to find a seat. Our servers are always very sweet and welcoming. I'm good with a glass of wine (they have a house Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio for $6) between the two, I think think the Pinot Noir is a bit better, and my guy ordered a Manhattan $14. I think my spicy margarita last time was very good. Having tried more things food wise, we've settled into our favorites. Each time we go, we definitely get the pork belly popcorn which is always loved by others who dine with us. Besides the rib eye special, our favorites on the menu thus far are the Chicken piccata and the Salmon in a homemade butter lemon sauce. For sides, hands down we loved the asparagus and the spinach and mushrooms. My boyfriend never likes vegetables but he said he could eat a whole plate of the spinach and mushrooms lol. Last night we both finished everything off of our plate. It was all so delicious, and dare I add "healthy?"

    Chicken stroganoff...or so they say.

First time picking up food from the Pour House. I ordered the chicken stroganoff to go and was totally shocked and disappointed. It literally tasted like straight Worcestershire sauce with zero creamy goodness. Totally bummer.

We went to The Pour House this evening as my choice for a birthday dinner. The food was wonderful. We had chips, salsa, and guacamole as an appetizer. Not an exciting appetizer, but surprisingly tasty! I had the special, and I recommend getting whatever the special is. Tonight it was the Salisbury Steak. I almost didn't get it since it reminds me of TV dinners, but it was the special, so I was all in. Woah. It was absolutely the bomb. The taste made me salivate on every bite and the jalapeño mashed potatoes and asparagus complement the dish. One companion got the Shrimp Diablo (wow, just wow, with the rice and beans as sides), another the salmon in a lemon butter sauce, and the other the pork barbacoa. Out of all the dishes, all but the salmon would be a strong repeat order and the salmon was very good. I would encourage lunch or dinner at the Pour House. Keep in mind that this is for 21 and older patrons.

My mom and I stopped in for lunch last Monday on Presidents Day just before noon. We were greeted by a wonderful waitress but unfortunately I don't remember her name. She was very polite and patient as my mom asked a few questions about the menu and Chef Lino. The restaurant was clean, relatively quiet, had ample lighting, and had an older, more mature crowd. It was the perfect setting for lunch with your parents. I enjoyed the big comfy chairs at our table, too. We eventually settled on a couple of salads and we shared the quesobirria taco plate, which is served with three tacos, sauce, and a lime and were very good. We each had a glass of the house chardonnay as well. It was alright, but the Josh was much better. I remembered this bar being a rough and tumble biker bar many years ago, but it seems it has reinvented itself. Give it a shot, and you'll be glad you did!

Loved this sign next to the front door.

It's rustic and clean, it's very clean. There's a very large side room for events etc. the main bar area is small with some nice chairs to sit in and the large tv was set to a fireplace. The floors are covered in various beef/farm brands, adds to the rustic western vibe. Bartender was friendly and attentive. She kept busy cleaning and dusting bottles- like I said- it's clean. Drinks for a "speakeasy" were not special. Very typical bar drinks- no special menu etc. I visit a lot of speakeasy's- this is, speakeasy-ish. Our two drinks & a club soda were nearly $40. They were made well. Unfortunately, they didn't have the ingredients to make the drink I had asked for. Overall, I'd like to see this place on a weekend night with music. The drinks were over priced for what they were- IMO. That said, I'll likely return, at least once. Still bummed KC doesn't have a nice speakeasy.

Nobody plans to spend an evening in Bakersfield. You pass through it on the way to somewhere else…read more-- Mammoth, the Sequoias, the long flat grind up the 99 to Sacramento -- and if you stop at all, it's for gas or a bathroom or because your BMW's brakes have decided, somewhere around the Grapevine, that they'd rather not. Thank you, Weatherford BMW of Berkeley, for the near-death experience and, inadvertently, for one of the best nights out I've had in years. Stranded and waiting on repairs, we checked into The Padre, the only hotel in Bakersfield that feels like someone with a subscription to Dwell had a hand in it, and set out walking through a downtown that time has treated with more kindness than reputation suggests. There's a Woolworth's luncheonette still hanging on. There are old brick facades and wide sidewalks and the particular quiet of a Central Valley evening when the heat finally breaks. And then, on 18th Street, there is Tiki-Ko, and suddenly you are no longer in Bakersfield at all. You are, instead, inside someone's magnificent obsession. Tiki-Ko is a proper tiki bar -- not a tiki-themed cocktail lounge, not a place that bought some bamboo at a craft store and called it atmosphere, but a genuine, committed, floor-to-ceiling shrine to mid-century Polynesian fantasy. The carvings are real. The lighting is correct -- which is to say, barely there. The mugs are serious. There are pufferfish lamps and carved totems and the whole glorious taxonomy of tiki ephemera, accented here and there with a skate-culture edge that keeps it from feeling like a museum. It's reverent without being precious. The drinks are the real thing. Mai Tais built with actual orgeat. Zombies that earn the name. The bartenders make them with the kind of care and enthusiasm that tells you this isn't a gig -- it's a calling. They want you to be here. They want to talk about rum. They want you to try the Painkiller. In a city that most Angelenos regard as a punch line, somebody built a world-class cocktail bar and filled it with joy, and the regulars clearly know it. You will not plan a trip to Bakersfield. But if you find yourself there -- by mechanical failure, by accident, by the peculiar mercy of a bad brake job -- walk downtown. Find the tiki bar. Order a second round. Stay longer than you intended. Bakersfield has been underestimated, and Tiki-Ko is the proof.

I only had a drink upstairs at the original bar and I ordered my default go to when I visit new tiki bars and am unfamiliar with their menus and that was the painkiller. The service or person behind the bar was chill and super friendly. I came in on the earlier side of a Friday evening, so although people were trickling in, the place wasn't packed. Since I was only able to stay for a drink, I just wanted to walk down and check out 'The Sinking Ship' and was thoroughly impressed by the decor (well pretty much for both spaces). Definitely a place I'd love to grab drinks with friends or spend more time at.

Even the manager came up and introduced herself and we had a nice chat. Smaller space than most bars but that is fine as for now, this place does not seem to get very busy. Even though happy hour runs late! The prices for drinks were more than affordable but nothing fancy. Your moscow mule for example will come just in a regular glass (darn thieves!) and not the slick, proper, copper mug that will keep your drink colder for longer. Again, think Denny's. Also tried a simple vodka drink and a margarita. They were fine. We went on a Fri night I think at 9pm when surprisingly, karaoke started. THIS was interesting. I was excited as it was listed as 80's night but as the night went on, 'anything goes' was the rule. It was fun but the same people went up over and over again trying to get their big break! They were having fun with it - we just decided to leave when the foul, crappy hip hop came on. The mood had shifted. There are booths, high tops and you can eat from the regular Denny's menu. We did not eat but what was recommended to us by staff were the burgers and skillets for next time. To sum up - this is a very casual spot to bring some friends and have drinks on the cheap with friendly service. And a diner menu if you are hungry that serves late into the night.

The security guy was cool and not one of those meat heads that have zero personality so that was a great first impression. The place is pretty big with most of the space being a stage with a lot of lighting and equipment. There's also a nice sauce dance floor and plenty of tables and chairs spread throughout. They have tv's playing videos for whatever music is playing at the time with a ticker at the bottom of the screen informing you of their weekly schedule.
