We've been to The Pour House twice now, for the live music and the fun, laid-back atmosphere. If you're looking for a true Bakersfield local hangout, this is it. The dive bar vibe is exactly what you'd hope for, and everyone from the servers to the bartenders is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The food is a bit more of a mixed bag. The menu is pretty limited, with no plant-based options. I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo, and while it was very cheesy and comforting, it really just needed a generous amount of black pepper to bring the flavors to life. My husband had the Chicken Alfredo and enjoyed it. He also ordered the clam chowder, which he said had good flavor, but it arrived cold enough that the bowl could have used a little warming before it was served. For us, The Pour House isn't really about the food, it'sabout the experience. We rolled up to the Pour House on a Friday at about 3:30 pm and had the entire patio to ourselves. The patio is huge! The staff were great - very informative about the menu. And the food was so good. Outside it looks like a biker bar in an industrial area, but inside, there's fine food being served up. I think this might be the only place in town that has Beef Wellington on the menu, and Chef Lino's recipe is really good. Want something more mainstream and less expensive then there's an assortment of sandwiches and salads on the menu too. The beer is always cold, and the servers are very friendly and attentive. We try and go to The Pour House at least once a month, and even though it's a bit of a drive for us, it's always worth it. read more

Came for the Summer Fest to hang out with friends. I enjoy a live band and I got there just in time to watch the infamous Joe Peters/co-owner of the bar. He was good, I can see what all the hype is about. I hadn't been here in a while and noticed they extended the outdoor patio area quite a bit. It has plenty of ceiling fans built in for those terribly hot summers Bakersfield is known for and also heaters for the winter. Overall this place has definitely gotten an upgrade. So you really shouldn't give a bad review because you brought kids under 21!!! This was our first time here and I absolutely love this place and will try to make this one of our regular stops. The service was absolutely awesome and the food was outstanding!!! I had the Philly with fries. It was huge with tender perfectly cooked medium rare ribeye. I did hold the jalapeño's. It is date night, and I told my man I wanted to go to Pour House though I went last week lol. Thursday night seems to be a popular night. A good number of other customers, yet it was easy to find a seat. Our servers are always very sweet and welcoming. I'm good with a glass of wine (they have a house Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio for $6) between the two, I think think the Pinot Noir is a bit better, and my guy ordered a Manhattan $14. I think my spicy margarita last time was very good. Having tried more things food wise, we've settled into our favorites. Each time we go, we definitely get the pork belly popcorn which is always loved by others who dine with us. Besides the rib eye special, our favorites on the menu thus far are the Chicken piccata and the Salmon in a homemade butter lemon sauce. Went there on Friday for dinner. Arrive around 530 and place was pretty empty which I was surprised. For apps we ordered bacon wrapped pickles and jalepeno poppers, both were decent. For dinner we ordered the New York steak and cilantro pesto pasta. The steak had great flavor, was just a bit overcooked as we asked for medium rare. By this point, we all know chef Lino can cook. The man's tomahawk tacos were the only thing I got back in line for, one year at villagefest. But, and in my most humble opinion, if you want the type of meal that alters your mind, and makes you reevaluate your stance on what you know about the culinary world, I recommend heading to the pour house and ordering the beef stroganoff, just once in your life. The most comfort of comfort meals is transformed into a meal that makes you pay attention to it and says I am more than the sum of my parts! There is a few good things about this hole in the wall Karaoke dive, but when they decided to leap from a dive bar, to a fake gourmet 1 inch taco that are literally the size of my lime wedge, is when I have to speak up. See I grew working in Four Star Five Diamond resorts such as Rancho Bernardo Inn, La Valencia, & Omni La Costa Resort, Paradise Point Resort & Spa, and I have worked in French gourmet service with a famous chef, and what Chef Lino is plating up is a disgrace to the culinary art itself. Don't waste your money on micro tacos, reaching to be an hors d'oeuvre. They need to stay true to what they've always been and go hardy, not skinny overpriced bits that don't make sense or fit their brand or their demographic patron. We went to The Pour House this evening as my choice for a birthday dinner. The food was wonderful. We had chips, salsa, and guacamole as an appetizer. Not an exciting appetizer, but surprisingly tasty! I had the special, and I recommend getting whatever the special is. Tonight it was the Salisbury Steak. I almost didn't get it since it reminds me of TV dinners, but it was the special, so I was all in. Woah. It was absolutely the bomb. The taste made me salivate on every bite and the jalapeño mashed potatoes and asparagus complement the dish. One companion got the Shrimp Diablo (wow, just wow, with the rice and beans as sides), another the salmon in a lemon butter sauce, and the other the pork barbacoa. My mom and I stopped in for lunch last Monday on Presidents Day just before noon. We were greeted by a wonderful waitress but unfortunately I don't remember her name. She was very polite and patient as my mom asked a few questions about the menu and Chef Lino. The restaurant was clean, relatively quiet, had ample lighting, and had an older, more mature crowd. It was the perfect setting for lunch with your parents. I enjoyed the big comfy chairs at our table, too. We eventually settled on a couple of salads and we shared the quesobirria taco plate, which is served with three tacos, sauce, and a lime and were very good. We each had a glass of the house chardonnay as well. It was alright, but the Josh was much better. We had a great late lunch on Monday at the Poor House.We were greeted by the bartender and Brittney our waitress as we entered. We had just left Costco and were starving, hadn't been to the Poorhouse in a while. We weren't disappointed. Britney had our menu to us in no time. Just came from dinner at the Pour House. Didn't take pictures of the food because we couldn't wait to get out of there. It was so loud. A young man started playing guitar, which would've been great just acoustic, but he was plugged in to amplifiers and we couldn't hear ourselves talk. The strawberry salad with chicken was delicious. My brother and I both had the taco plate with a shrimp taco and the pork belly taco really good. The rice was bland. I don't recommend it as part of your side. Service was fine. We discovered Pour House on reading about it on the Bakersfield Californian. Wow! Glad I did. Great reviews and raves for Chef Lino. We checked it out, now it's our go to place for great food, drinks and service. The bartender is a true professional, I had a Tito's Martini that was made perfectly. Their service is warm, friendly and top notch. The first visit I had the ribs. I love well prepared ribs and Chef Lino's were amazing. Tender and fall off the bone perfection, served with pinto beans and garlic fries, the perfect match for the ribs. On subsequent visits I've had the chicken piccata, also amazing. This is not your typical fine dining experience, but the food is worthy of it. I heard their food was fantastic from a coworker and it did not disappoint! The ambience is dive bar, but the barbacoa is one of the best bites I've had in a long time! The meat was perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned and the smoky spice of the sauce was delicious on everything on the plate. We started with the pork belly popcorn, which was basically fried pork belly with 2 spicy sauces. The chipotle was super flavorful, but ended with a lot of heat. I ended up using ranch to cut it a bit and that worked for me. The presentation was awkward, they used a paper cone to represent popcorn, but we ended up with a puddle of grease on the table and using our forks to grab was difficult. Toward the bottom the cone unfurled and dropped about 10 pieces of pork on the table in the puddle of grease. The Wellington was good, it was a perfectly ordered medium rare, the wine reduction was complimentary with the onions and mushrooms on the inside of the pastry, but the sauce wasn't robust enough to compete and many of the bites just tasted like steak, so it wasn't perfect. The asparagus and spinach were perfectly cooked and well seasoned, and the fries were crispy and not overpowered by the garlic or parmesan. When my husband told me his boss said the Pour house has the best lunch in town I was SURE he wasn't talking about the same dive bar I've frequented late nights in my 20s (and some 30)!!! I was wrong. Apparently they got Lino from Lino's off Taft hwy which one loved my whole life and the menu is phenomenal!!! We ordered the linguica and mushroom pasta, a Philly cheesesteak sandwich with garlic fries and a pork belly taco a la cart. I'll start with my least favorite, the pork belly taco, it was OKAY. I'd heard great things about it but it tasted more like pork shoulder than pork belly, not bad by any means but I wouldn't order again. The sandwich was YUM, none of those pesky green peppers no one really likes anyways, instead they add jalapeños to their thinly sliced ribeye with cheese and onion....chefs kiss! The garlic fries were probably my favorite thing, they were crispy and SO GARLICY. My husbands pasta was nothing short of amazing. The rolotini holds onto that great creamy sauce and the lightly spicy sausage with the mushrooms was perfection. We had to stop eating before we fell asleep at the table!! Looking forward to my pasta leftovers. The ambiance is dive bar high top tables, crowd is good ole boys; some eating, some drinking their lunch. Not the food you'd expect from a place like this.
