We had a celebration of life yesterday at 1933 Speakeasy Bar & Grill, It took place in the large back section I believe t it's called the back garden area. It was perfect large tables for 10 were set up with white table cloths. We went with a taco bar and sliders ordered for 125 guests. The staff had a podium up on the stage set up for peoples memories. 4 large monitors showing videos of our departed friend. It was perfect, we kept the bar very busy they were prepared for a large crowd, we had at least 125 or more Everyone commented on how nice everything was set up. The ambiance is always nice here. My friend and I come here for drinks often. The waitresses are always friendly and welcoming. The drinks are tasty, we usually get the lemon drop martini. The only thing I dislike about this place is the food. I have tried The salmon, the beef and chicken bites and nachos and just have been disappointed. This review is for the gardens at 1933 venue. We held our 10 year high school reunion at this venue and we can't recommend this venue more! Bree was so easy to work with and was very accommodating. They have chairs, tables and linens at the venue and it's all included in the venue price. It's such a great space! You have to order food and drinks from the venue (can't bring your own) but everything was affordable and tasted good. My son and I spent the whole afternoon during one of the first San Francisco 49er games this past year. What a blast we had with the crowd! Everybody seems so friendly, and they all seem to know each other. Granted they were all 49er fans pretty much. The food was really good and those waitresses really hustled to get out all the food in a timely manner. They were awesome! Our waitress was exceptional and I could see how the others were just as exceptional. Very personable and showed a great attitude, despite the workload that could be very stressful. We stopped in here one night, because it was the only thing open past 10 pm on a Thursday night. This is a great speakeasy that has some good libations, but the food part was sub par, well one part of it was. I say sub par because their version of tomato soup was more of a paste. Soup shouldn't be so dense where you can't penetrate it with a grilled cheese sandwich. My grilled cheese with bacon was pretty good I must say. The right amounts of cheese, nice cuts of bacon that complimented each other with that a good foundation as in bread holding it in place. In all we did enjoy our time in here. The decor has that prohibition look to it, showing you how it was back in the 1930's. I'm sure they didn't have karaoke back then, but these guys had a full crowd of on goers doing their thing. I will say this some were pretty damn good, while a majority of them should save their singing talents for their morning shower. Bless their hearts though. In all I did like my visit here. This is my first time here , we were seated immediately and given our drinks within minutes . I love the decor and the atmosphere of this place , it was very relaxing. We ordered the Top Sirloin with a salad and mashed potatoes, the salad was AMAZING . The steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly , I ate all of it ! Why have I not stopped in here before?!?!! First time stopping by dine in with my wife side of the family to try out this establishment. The customer service was on point and spot on. Our waitress was Courtney and we would request to have her serve us anytime. We sat and dine outside their Outside patio. It wasn't to hot because they have a Portacooler blowing cool air. I order the Cheesy garlic bread Tri-Tip Sandwich. And I kid you not, the portion was huge!!! Talk about almost the size of my head. When the bill came the drink was still on my bill and asked for it to be removed the server stated his manager said no because their is nothing wrong with the drink. Went here for St. Patrick's Day with a group of 6. Sat outside on the patio area. This place is huge and can hold a lot of people. Like a lot of other reviews it took about 30 minutes to get our food. Our waitress was pretty good at bringing out our drinks from the bar quickly. I ordered the guacamole burger (medium). It came well done, dry, and flavorless. The only thing that saved it was the avocado and the bacon. I would've sent it back but I was starving and this place was packed! I also had a margarita with my dinner that was nothing but margarita mix. After that I had a glass of the pineapple cider which would've been excellent but it came in a warm mug. This place seems pretty cool if you're just coming to enjoy a show, watch a game or just want some beers. It would also be nice if they had a drink menu that offered specialty cocktails with crafty names to go with the "speakeasy theme". I went there this evening 1/29/21 for the first time. I'll break it down in sections and spare you the extraneous BS. Atmosphere: I like it! It's got the modern-industrial feel to it. Totally cool vibe. Drinks: I only had one, but it was good. I asked for a Drambuie and 7. The bartender--I never asked for her name-- gave a healthy pour and I'm totally good with that. (Nice job whoever you are). Food: I would love to tell you about the food, but alas, that requires a waitress who cares enough to take orders, ordering food cooking food etc... none of which happened. Here's the rub: When I ordered my drink at the bar, the bartender offered a menu to take to my table. I took the menu to my table and looked it over. It looked good, but after waiting 30 MINUTES for a waitress to take my order I gave up. The waitress at one point waited on the table next to me, but somehow didn't make it to mine. If it were busy inside I could totally understand, but it wasn't. Once I saw the handwriting on the wall, I decided to cash out. Overall impression: If your just looking for a cool vibe and delicious drinks, then by all means you should consider this place. If you want food, you may starve. The food was good and the service was decent, it was fairly busy at the time we went and although it took a little while for us to get our food, overall it was a decent experience. Three of us ladies came here for dinner on a Friday. We were greeted by a nice hostess. I told her it was difficult to find. We were seated quickly and got our drink ordered immediately. The food was also out in a fair amount of time. Awesome! R- she had wings, mild. They came with veggies and ranch. She thought they were good. Ranch too thin, watery. L- decided in cheese bread tri tip after I told her it got good reviews on Yelp. It is big open face sandwich. Lots of battered fries are included. She really enjoyed the tender tri tip. D-fried green bean appetizer with chipotle ranch. FABULOUS. Firm green beans and sauce is fantastic. We wanted and asked for extra sauce to put on our main dishes. Also, tried the Veggie Flatbread. Tomato chunks, eggplant, zucchini, etc. Good flavor. Crust not too thick. Enjoyed it. Cheese, however, was scant :( They don't have flavored tea. That would be nice. I was happy with the small, intimate feel of the event center and the service at the bar, however I snuck over to the actual bar and grill side of things and was no impressed. I paid over $15 for a sampler platter that contained 2 very sad, unflavorful chicken tenders, some bland onion rings, and a very dry quesadilla... might come back for a show again the future, but I will be sure to wat before I come next time! read more

So, my husband came here a couple weeks ago with his team from work to celebrate month end close out at work. He raves about it and said it was cool and had a great vibe and couldn't wait to take me there. We went out last night and chose this place, and I checked in on yelp also... It was our date night last night. It started out great, our server Jeannette was friendly and everyone there seemed like they were having a good time. We asked for a beer menu, we love good beer. They didn't have one, so, no biggie, Jeannette tried to recall what all they have, but couldn't remember everything. Whatever. We were just excited to be out. We ordered some Mango IPA's then finally ordered some food. I had been craving a BLT, so that's what I got and my husband got the chicken Alfredo. My husband is a great cook and can be picky, but he didn't complain much about the Alfredo. However the sauce did look brown. Lol. Not white or cream color like it should be. However he again, did not complain. My BLT was decent, I also make better at home. We are foodies. But a BLT shouldn't be hard to fuck up. The beer battered fries were delish and they had really good ranch. I shared with my husband. We were there for maybe 2.5-3 hours. My husband was able to get off work early so we could finally have a date night that was much needed. So we got there a bit after 6. Left around 9:30. It was quite crowed when we first got there, then it died down until about 8ish and it picked back up and got busy. We made friends with a neighboring table and chatted it up. And at that point I had had about 3 ipa's and then 2 ciders. Then we ordered 1 Jaeger bomb for each of us- (my husband and I). When we decided to leave and asked for the check, this is where it went south. They fucking tried to add extra BS onto our tab? Did they think we were that wasted that we wouldn't know? Bitch, they don't know us. We are heavy drinkers. We drink a lot and can handle our alcohol. My husband was basically sober lol! It takes way more than what we had there, to even affect him. The fact that they added on extra shots, extra beers and a desert that we never fucking asked for is BULLSHIT! The manager came over and tried to call us a liar and finally after speaking to my husband took off $40 worth of BS they had added to our tab. I learnt a long time ago to keep tabs on our drinks on my phone. Because I've had this happen before. We come from Phoenix and know how to party. There is not much to do here in Bakersfield, but how can you try to ruin a place by fucking your customers? This is the one decent place in town. They literally took this star rating from a 5 to a 2. And they're lucky I'm even giving that despite them trying to thieve us. I was pretty disappointed with how they handled that and it ruined the last part of our date night and put a major sour taste in our mouth. I was excited to go there, my husband couldn't wait to take me. Then they had to try to take advantage of us. And we aren't the ones! Nice try Jeannette and management. I finally got the opportunity to check out this place. Some friends of ours invited us for a evening out in the town. We decided to go to the 1933, just as my wife and I walked in we noticed how big this place really is, 14,000 sq ft. We were kindly greeted by the host at the front door. She asked if we would like to sit indoors or in the outside patio, I replied asking if we could get a tour of the place. She kinda replied "of course", after taking a quick peek here and there we decided to sit in the back shaded patio. This patio is very large and perfect for group gatherings. The menu had excellent food and beer choices, after placing our order for drinks they were brought out quickly. The entire place looks very well done and with great taste in the decor. The wooden tables felt very sturdy, seating was very comfortable. After eating and drinking we went to the club area. There was live music, the guys played very well. There was also a bar in the club area, my friends and I had a good time. If there is anything I would complain about, it would be the menu I was looking at. The menu was dirty and sticky as if someone spilled soda or BBQ sauce on it. Somethings did how ever throw me off a little. It seemed like they spend a lot of money on almost everything except on the beer mugs, ash tray and the way the silverware was wrapped in paper napkins. The beer mugs were plastics, the ash trays were also simple plastic like the type you buy bulk at a wholesale store. I normally see a restaurant that serves food with paper napkins vs a restaurants that used cloth napkins two totally separate ball games. I didn't expect paper napkins for this type of place. I came here with a group of friends. The wait staff is very nice but the service was pretty slow. There weren't a lot of guests eating at the restaurant so I didn't understand why some of us weren't getting the stuff that we wanted. For example, one of my friends asked for tartar sauce and she received it when she had to remind the wait staff twice! I asked for Tabasco and I ended up taking it from another table. My initial thought walking into this bar was, "why are the lights so bright?" I came to the establishment expecting a dark, hole in the wall type bar with an intimate atmosphere. Truthfully, 1933 is more like a Buffalo Wild Wings masquerading as a speakeasy. There are huge television on either sides of the wall. Tables upon tables and booths upon booths. A stage for what is likely a karaoke night. They have various beers on tap and normal service. If I was expecting a sports bar I would have given higher marks. But I felt deceived. I felt lied to. 1933 you are a hot wing and burger bar, so just say so! What I found very appealing was the open lounge in the back with couches and room for games. That is different, that is what should be advertised. Beyond that I have yet to come to a club night so I'll have to return. read more

Drawn to this restaurant by the speakeasy theme, we stopped in here on a Friday evening for dinner. While the theming is minimal, we still found a solid offering of food and decent service on our visit. This restaurant is quite large, with an outdoor patio, main dining area complete with pool, and a separate bar/night club like area. The main dining area is surrounded by large televisions for sports, so there is certainly potential for sportsbar fans. The overall design is pretty generic, and aside from a few wall items, the theming for the name isn't there. I'm not sure if they thought the speakeasy theme would set them apart or if it was just a feeble attempt to mask a generic sportsbar offering. It doesn't add to the restaurant, but it also doesn't detract. Bottom line: go for its sportsbar characteristics, not the speakeasy marketing. As for food, we found a now standard set of menu offerings. Burgers, salads, sandwiches, wings, and a few dinner options. The menu variations on these items is generic - blue cheese burgers, buffalo chicken sandwiches, etc. Still, we found all our food to be cooked well. The servings were generous for both meals. We enjoyed a wings appetizer that was cooked just fine, but again, nothing special. The burger was cooked properly, with big, thick slices of bacon. My tri tip sandwich was seasoned just fine, although the menu didn't specify it comes open face on a slab of bread, and not as an actual sandwich. Our overall tab for 2 entrees, a 4 piece wings appetizer, and 2 draft beers with tip came out to about $60. While the entrees were reasonably priced, the beers were priced higher than elsewhere in town. Service was friendly and quick, though we were told we'd just missed a rush that was yielding 2 hour waits. Given the size of the restaurant and number of staff, I really hope that was an exaggeration. I walked out feeling very neutral on this new restaurant. I'm all for new dining options in town, but 1933 hasn't brought anything new to the table. It's average to good food, but just doesn't do anything to set itself apart. If the theming was supposed to do that, it doesn't go far enough. An overall take it or leave it experience. read more
