a sign in the window

Its open for business but you wouldn't know unless you pulled on the door. There were no "just open" signs, no neon signs glowing in the window. The decor was a cleaned up Shamrocks the predecessor of this bar. First thing I noticed was all tall tables with bar stools around them. A big plus in my eyes. There are still two pool tables. The bar was cleaned up and a new 20 beer tap has been installed. They had several craft beers along with the major domestic beers. The had several TV's including a couple large projection ones. Nice watering hole to watch sports.

Clean bar, open area, modern touch, very clean bar.. cool bartender! Shout out to the homie Jeff! Cool bartender with an awesome mustache, laid back chill. Cool place to kick it at. Good art work and comfy and a wide verity of drinks and liquor.

At least Whisky Barrel put the game sound on when asked. Instead here, you get attitude from a bartender who's "not working".

Horrible service. New Year's Eve party was a joke. Entertainment is great, but the bar is a joke.

Poor service. Bartenders were rude and only cared about the guys they were flirting with. Will not return. Very unprofessional.

The man standing outside the entrance as I walked up asked me if I was ready to dance. I kind of thought the dance shoes I was carrying in my hands were a pretty good clue, but maybe he was just making conversation. That's how serious dancers recognize a kindred spirit - by the shoe bags or dance shoes in our hands; we never dance in street shoes or walk around the parking lot in our dance shoes. When I said "Yes!" he followed it up with "You salsa good?" Oh yeah, Honey - I "salsa good" This was my first time at La Movida and I was very impressed. Yes, I know you're looking at the map and shaking your head saying to yourself "It's down off Union for heaven's sake." Well, get over it. La Movida has a large well lit parking lot with signs announcing that there is 24 hour video surveillance, and I felt perfectly comfortable parking and walking in (and out at the end of the night) by myself. Inside, there is a surprisingly large dance floor with ample space around it to hold tables and chairs for quite a few dancers or music lovers (The space holds 1150 people). The club seems to play mostly salsa, bachata, and cumbia music, but that could have just been the night I was there. I danced for several hours, spinning like crazy every chance I got, and my knees didn't hurt afterwards so I'm declaring the dance floor very danceable. I've heard they have a lot of live bands that play there, too!! The club is attractively decorated and lit. I was particularly fascinated with the colored lighting behind the bar. It took me a while to realize that the lights were slowly cycling through colors from blue and green to purple and red, but in such a subtle way that it was not immediately obvious what was going on. The effect was actually very well done, even upscale. The bartenders and servers were very courteous and friendly, and the drink prices not unreasonable. I would absolutely go back! Girl's gotta get her dance on!!

We were able to find ample parking in the lot on a Saturday around 2pm. We walked into the bar and it took me a while for my eyes to adjust from it being so bright outside and dark inside, but you walk right into the middle of the bar with a large bar top and booths around the room. We walked to the restaurant side, which was super cute, but we went to the patio. The patio was super cute as well, with plants all over and there were giant fans for when it gets really hot outside. Our server was awesome too, and I mean awesome because when she came to take our orders I had seen a very tiny very pregnant little black and white cat and I asked about her. Our server was AMAZING in telling me that the local cats are pretty taken care of because she could tell I was concerned and distracted LOL We put in our orders: sister's favorite is the NY Steak French Fry Salad, husband got the Bacon Avocado Pepperjack burger, and I couldn't decide so I got the Basque lunch setup. All the food was awesome. My different dishes were delivered as they were ready and there was so much! The basque lunch is a good value as well in my opinion:) Everyone was very happy with their food and drinks. The restroom was small but worked just fine and pretty clean. I will definitely be back to try more things from the Pyrenees Cafe huge menu and awesome staff (and cute kittens).

This restaurant is a Bakersfield staple and the ambiance is a true reflection of that. The food was fantastic, had the tritip sandwich, probably in my top 3 pastrami sandwiches in town.
