2 Eggs and Hash Browns
Angie B.

Came for breakfast for a book club meeting and ordered the Chicken Fried Steak Breakfast which came with two eggs, hashbrowns, single pancake, and the chicken fried steak. Best chicken fried steak in town! Perfectly fried and seasoned! The hashbtowns were perfectly crispy and eggs cooked to perfection. The pancake was buttery, thick, and tasted delicious. Waitresses were incredibly patient as our party had no shows and kept refilling our coffee's. Can't wait to come back and try other items although I believe I will probably just order the chicken fried steak!

Don't come for me guys. Knotty Pine was my favorite for years. However the food is not what it once was and I've had this conversation with several previous regulars. Was there a big change to the kitchen staff over the past year or so? Hopefully it can get back to what it once was. We need to protect this restaurant and keep it around for years to come.

Smaller size of the potato and eggs, 3 French toast, and biscuits and gravy

If you're considering going here, DONT HESITATE!!! The food, service, portion sizes, and atmosphere was perfect!!! My fiancee and I got French toast, a biscuit and gravy, potato's and eggs and everything came in such a good size! Not only that but it was delicious. We're definitely coming back!

Service into the restaurant was kind and full of greetings and smiles from everyone. Very cozy environment. As you can see from the pictures it is very cozy and warm; like a cabin you might stay at. I ordered Eggs Benedict. Perfect hollandaise for the Benedict's. Potatoes were crispy. My husband had the hot link breakfast with Lonnie potatoes. He loved SPICY. It was heaven. We shared the French Toast. Omgoodness, lots of food. Great coffee. The seating is tables and booths. Space is a bit tight, but everyone is focused on their family and enjoying their space. I loved this place. It is definitely a monthly keeper to our repertoire of favorites. I can imagine their lunch. Looking forward to returning! If you're in the area, come by and give them a try. You won't regret the experience.

Good food as usual. We decided to go here for lunch and it was pretty good for what we got. My wife ordered their egg, bacon, and biscuits with gravy for breakfast and I got their cat fish breakfast meal with bacon (catfish was burnt to a crisp). Just good ol' fashioned breakfast with some great coffee. Service was excellent, never had an empty glass. Loud atmosphere as well, everyone was talking really loud to each other. We had to use earplugs while we ate, thank God we had some.

I CANT GET OVER HOW AMAZING THIS PLACE IS. Now this place is TRULY A GEM IN BAKERSFIELD. I can't reccomend this place enough if you have never had their Breakfast or Lunch. This place is the defention of flavortown and every penny spent here is absulotely worth it. Stopped by for brunch on a Friday with my wife where I got breakfast and she got lunch around 1pm. They are open till 3pm FYI. I got myself the Denver omlete with Lonnie's hashbrowns and it was a MASSIVE portion of food considering the price. I honestly couldn't finish my plate, too much!!! My meal was a 10/10, just phenomenal. My wife went with a grilled Tereyaki Chicken Sandiwch and she swears it's the best chicken Sandwich in town lol. Overall, do your life a favor and come here. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. I've been coming to Knotty Pine since 2013 and I will confine to come for the rest of my life. Thanks Knotty Pine for all the amazing food over the years. Till next time!

Two egg breakfast with sausage

I was in town for work and was looking for a nice breakfast place before I flew out. I came across this cute place on Yelp, read the reviews, and decided to give it a try. This was a great choice! When I arrived there was a wait, and the parking lot was full, but because it was just myself I was able to walk in and get seated immediately at the bar by the nicest host. I ordered the two egg breakfast with sausage and I chose breakfast potatoes and a biscuit with gravy. This was So much food, but everything was delicious. To start off the breakfast potatoes were awesome. They had the perfect texture, perfectly seasoned and there were a lot of them. The sausage was also fantastic, it was perfectly season and I think it may be made in house but I'm not sure. Either way it was very good. My eggs were perfectly cooked and my biscuit was so flaky. What an amazing breakfast. I can't believe I got all of this for $14.61 before tip. If you are in town, please give this cute place a try. It is so worth it

Steak and Eggs, over Medium. Ribeye Steak, cooked Medium Well. Substitute fresh fruit for biscuits & gravy, AND a Perfect Pancake.....DRUMROLL....Under $20 plus tax......enough for 2 people, or 1/2 of EVERYTHING to go! Felix, one of the kitchen workers, and possible manager, was friendly, when he came out for a break. He took time to engage in a conversation with this old man.....me. Experience Cope's Knotty Pine, on the North Edge of Oildale...where Merle Haggard lived in a boxcar that his dad fixed it up real nice. You can see it at the historic and iconic Kern County Museum. Right down Chester, just a few minutes away!

Chicken and waffles
Karen G.

The chicken and waffles were ok. Reason being is that the waffle itself was a little soggy and the chicken had very little flavor. The service was quick and friendly, the waitresses were attentive. The interior was giving country with all the wood furniture.

I can't believe this is my first time here. I've been hearing about Copes for years. It is a quaint rustic coffee shop, serving breakfast & lunch. The staff is prompt & friendly even though they are very busy. They have a quite extensive menu of breakfast & lunch items. Breakfast is served all day. Their lunch menu looks excellent as well. I'll be back soon to try it out. What I like is that they offer many individual items if you don't have a big appetite. I order a biscuit with gravy and a side of sausage. The biscuit was cloud fluffy, the gravy was rich and peppery. The sausage was moist & spicy. The servings are generous. If you want delicious down home cooking this is the place to come.

Food is ok but dry, service was horrible!! No drink refills, literally dropped the food and left. We had to find someone to get the check to leave. Other servers walked by and just glanced at us and failed to tip off drinks or even offer a "hey we are busy can I help" . Absolutely not worth the time , go somewhere else.

Brock's Smackin' Hot Turkey Sandwich, for onion rings
Aron N.

Given the reviews, my expectations were high. The food is okay. It's a typical diner. Was disappointed with my turkey sandwich as it was a bit soggy and the turkey was very dry and stringy. The country potatoes were soggy too. I think the traditional breakfast items are the way to go for this place.

NY steak was amazingly tender and cooked perfectly, the kind of steak that really does not need much done to it because the flavor already speaks for itself. They served it with chimichurri sauce, which just was not exactly my cup of tea, but once I added Worcestershire sauce, it really brought out the flavor of an already all-star steak. The Chicken Fried Steak 'n' Eggs with hash browns was also very tasty Steak even the batter had flavor and definitely worth it. The chicken fried steak had that good comfort food quality to it, with a crispy outside, tender bite, and a savory flavor that worked really well with the eggs. The hash browns helped round everything out nicely and even the biscuits and gravy which im generally not a fan of was very good. Service from Holly, and I hope I got that right, was amazing from start to finish. She was friendly, attentive, and made the visit feel easy and comfortable. Even the iced tea stood out to me because it tasted like the homemade sun tea I make every year by the pool, and that gave the whole meal an extra familiar touch. Overall, this was a very strong visit with a standout steak, a satisfying breakfast plate, and excellent service.

The steak was thin so it pretty much was all well done apart from the center being slightly pink. Such a disappointment. Country fried steak was one of the worst I've ever had, super dry, could have done with more gravy. Ordered drinks with less ice, glass came full of ice like an ordinary amount but went the wrong table at first. The restaurant was dirty. Needs sweeping as there was dirty tissue under our table before we entered but instead staff are cleaning the glass panels between the tables that aren't as dirty as the obvious tissues on the floor. Are they hoping the decor draws eyes up away from the dirty floor? 2 stars for the retro decor.

The food was good. The tri tip and chicken fried steak were full of flavor and seasoned well. The only negative we would say about the food is the tri tip was a little on the dry side, and the chicken fried steak was mostly batter. Both still tasted good, though. Just wished the tri tip was juicier and chicken fried steak was proportioned better with meat vs batter. Sides were really good (descriptions in the pics). Food was 4 stars. Atmosphere is very old school feel. They even had the Price Is Right from probably the 70's or 80's playing on the tv. Brought back funny memories. Overall, recommend. Very good local restaurant.

Not only was the food outstandingly fresh and warm for our ~150 guests, but the service was spectacular. When we saw that we had more guests than expected, the Hodel's team was quick to set up more tables. The rib was probably the best of the meats. The trip was okay. The food is buffet food so I don't have really high expectations. For a traditional family style buffet I would give the a 3.5 on the food. They had a great selection on salads made in house. The meat guy recommended the broccoli salad and I tried it. It was pretty good. It's been at least 15 years since I've had broccoli salad. That did not disappoint. My wife liked the good variety and selection, and the fried chicken was pretty good. My son liked the apple cobbler and their homemade peanut butter cookies. The service was exceptional. Everyone working there was pleasant and friendly. 5 of 5 for service. The atmosphere, the design and theme was very appropriate, although dated it is still very welcoming and appropriate for the venue. With that being said, the carpet was filthy and the upholstery was warn and old. It looks dated and tired. They can keep the overall theme and look, but give the restaurant an updated facelift of sorts. The seasonal decorations were nice. The store gift shop sold miscellaneous items including some of their baked goods, so that was cool. The lighting needs to be updated. That would really enhance their atmosphere. The bathrooms. You can learn a lot about a place from the bathroom. These weren't filthy per se but the floors were pretty nasty. It always grosses me out when my shoes stick to the tiles. The fixtures were on par with a lot of the restaurant, old, dated, and tired. Formica countertops? A lot of these design elements just need to be polished up. I think this is a great part of the Bakersfield community, but I think it's been a bit neglected. It's probably family owned for a while and the kids or whatever have gotten complacent with the business. I'm not saying it is poorly ran and the positive experience with their staff can attest to that. But they can use some freshening up. Tip to owner, I didn't see any take out happening during my visit but in today's food retail market, take out is HUGE! Especially with the Holiday season and football games etc. I have a feeling you are missing out on some of your local market. Reach out if you want a more detailed discussion. Bakersfield is poised to grow and i hope that you are poised to grow as a local business as well. I'm glad we stopped by on our way back to Sacramento.
