Upon entering the hostess suggested we seat ourselves in the bar area rather than taking her time to seat us. First off, I love the complimentary unlimited bread and beans, and that they can box up fresh bread and beans to go, at no cost! Yay! Food is always good and fresh but this place isn't really baby friendly. There was no ramp for strollers at the entry, and they never offered us a high chair so my son stayed in his stroller. The waitress was very nice but forgot our waters but kept asking us if we wanted more beer. She also forgot my boyfriends side of Mac and cheese but we were still charged for it on the bill. However, once I mentioned this to her she was nice and took it off. On a positive note, the restrooms are always clean, and they play the new hit country songs if you like country music. First time trying this place out tonight and the last... Wish I would have taken pics of our food buy I didn't. Anyhow, we started off with the bacon wrapped shrimp and the jalapeño popper. The bacon wrapped shrimp were about the only good thing we ate... the poppers were wrapped in super thin sliced bacon and were very sad looking I had a blue cheese salad and didn't finish it it was not very good at all... for my meal I ordered the steak nugget things and had a few bights and asked for my check... so basically everything I tried was junk. I've been to cool hand looks probably 5 or 6 times now. I've always had great service and great food each time I go. The price of the food is what you would expect to pay for at a steakhouse. I have to point out the biggest reason for 5 stars. The first time myself and husband and daughter went to eat there we had to check for food allergies because my daughter is allergic to peanuts and soy. I was blown away at the response we received. My daughter was able to eat everything on the menu except for the garlic butter that came with the bread. The entire menu! For anyone who is familiar with a soy allergy that's almost unheard of. It tells me that the quality of their food is top notch. Because soy is a filler and preservative. So I know I'm eating quality. But what I couldn't believe is what our waiter did next. After he verified that my daughter could eat there, he took our order and brought our drinks and left. Some time later he arrives at our table with a grocery bag that contained a stick of butter he bought for my daughter! So that she wouldn't feel left out. I was blown away. It was so thoughtful and maybe a little crazy. But he actually ran across the street and picked it up and came back. He got a generous tip. We recently ordered the Tri-Tip Family Package meal. I have eaten a lot of tri-tip over the years and I have never had tri-tip this tender and juicy. This place is now our new go to place for tri-tip. I'm looking forward to trying their aged steaks next. Server had no knowledge of the menu and did know the difference between chicken fried steak and chicken. I ordered it and it was steak clearly frozen from Schwann's. She made sure to not clear the dirty dishes piling up and her team member gave me a dirty side look when we politely asked for him to please take the pile of dishes crowding our small table neither smiling or a word from him. I had placed a pick up order today through Door Dash right during restaurant opening. I had then arrived to pick up the order at the restaurant. I decided to stand at the door to stay 6 feet away from the customers who were waiting to be seated. They had already checked in and were sitting on the bench. The host, Jessica, did not acknowledge my presence. She stood there staring at the white board and drawing scribbles. A fellow employee also just clocked into her shift and stood next to her. They both looked completely dumb founded stared at the board and ignored my existence. Several minutes had passed, and I decide that maybe if I stood completely in front of the host counter (and in directly in front of their field of view) they would acknowledge me. Unfortunately, they did not. Finally minutes later I had asked if my pick up order was ready. THEN did Jessica acknowledge my presence and handed me my order. The host has poor customer service skills and is completely unfit to run the front. If you're looking for a steak there are plenty of other places in Fresno/Clovis that will cook you a phenomenal steak and provide exceptional customer service. I was in town visiting family for the Thanksgiving holiday. On Fri night, my hubby and I went to CHL's to peep the bar scene. We had already eaten dinner so we just went for drinks. It was around 8:30pm and the Saloon had plenty of seating available. I especially liked the comfy booths and sofas along the walls but we opted for a cocktail table. Service was top notch. Our server was also the bartender and she was extremely friendly and on point with her cocktail concoctions. I started with a Pomegranate Drop which is basically a Lemon Drop made with Pomegranate liqueur. It was really sweet, in fact, a bit too sweet for me. If you like girly drinks, this is the way to go! I decided to step it up and get a slightly dirty vodka martini. I also asked our server if they had bleu cheese stuffed olives. She said no but she could make them for me. Awesome! The martini was deeeeelicious. I ended up drinking 2 of these. My hubby had the Cafe Royal which is basically coffee mixed with Patron XO. We decided to try a dessert and the first one that stood out for me was the Molten Lava Cake. However, my hubby knows how much I love bread pudding and he pointed out that CHL's version was made with cinnamon rolls. How could I say no? We shared an order of CHL's signature bread pudding and we hardly put a dent in it. The serving was massive and not too rich. I just couldn't eat another morsel so we took the rest home. Overall, the bill was around $35 (not including tip) for 4 cocktails and 1 dessert. Talk about CHEAP! Living in the Bay Area I normally pay $10+ per cocktail. I ordered a steal Cobb salad & buffalo wings over the phone to go. When I got home what a great disappointment! Food was horrible! They gave me 5 small pieces of undercooked steak for my salad that had no flavor whatsoever, it tasted like blood. The salad used is one of the most cheapest bagged salad you can buy. The ranch is completely watered down. The buffalo wings were breaded, I asked the girl on the phone if they were breaded & she said no. They were breaded soggy buffalo wings, if you can call it that. What do you expect on a Friday night). That gave us time to gauge other patrons' plates. Nothing seemed to pop out at us on the menu nor on anyone's plate. We decided to order appetizers and drinks first and then to go from there. We ordered "BBQ chicken nachos" and "potato skins" to start. The end result was expensively disappointing. The nachos seemed to be a concoction of something i would put together with leftovers from a family cookout. There seemed to be a whole thigh right in the middle of the plate (chicken was not shredded or properly cut into reasonably sized pieces). Not only that, but the chicken was not cooked properly. The potato skins were good... But because they were covered in cheese and eventually doused with ranch and sour cream (can't really mess that up). Overall the restaurant was just nice and the food was less than desirable. Perhaps the main entrees are better... But for what I got and saw, I don't see myself coming back anytime soon. read more

Had a good meal here. Cool Hand Luke's serves steaks, seafood, ribs, chicken, salads, appetizers, and desserts. My friend and I stopped here for a Friday night dinner. We were told the wait for a table was about an hour. We put in our name, and given a buzzer which went off in 15 minutes. Not bad!! We were seated in the back corner in a large six person booth. The interior resembles a saloon with decorations and props of the Old West with a full bar area, table seating and booth seating. There is also covered patio seating too. The place is dimly lit, but the table overhead light was bright with colored marbles. The Pepsi soft drinks ($2.29 each with free refills) are served in large jars. The service seemed rushed because the place was very busy. Our server brought us our drinks, a basket of fresh hot sourdough rolls and small pot of campfire beans and quickly left without giving us small plates and serving spoon for the beans. We asked another server for the plates and spoon and quickly obliged. For an appetizer, the Pale Ale Beer Battered Artichoke Hearts ($9.00) with garlic butter sauce & sprinkled parmesan cheese was hot and tasty. The entrees come with bottomless salad or soup (New England Clam Chowder). We had the Chowder (small clam & potato chunks in a creamy broth) which was on the salty side. My friend ordered the 12 oz Santa Maria Tri-Tip ($16.99), served in a skillet with sauteed mushrooms with a baked potato with butter & sour cream. The Tri-Tips were tender and chewy, just right. I ordered the Calamari Steak ($13.99) breaded in Panko & pan seared in butter & parmesan cheese and served with red skin garlic mashed potatoes. The panko was very greasy and the calamari was tender. The garlic mashed potatoes were soft and tasty, not dry. There was so much food, we boxed up the leftovers. For dessert, I had a slice of Strawberry Pizza ($6.00), pastry crust stuffed with cream cheese filling and topped with fresh strawberries & whipped cream, was a great ending to a very filling meal. The problem is the food hasn't been consistently good..not for some time. My entree plates generally have at least one "hot" item luke warm or cold. Maybe that's what they mean by "Cool Hand Lukes"....While I like the large mason jars used as water/soda glasses, I always seem to have a little something (not ice) floating in my drink... I don't know if they need to clean their dishwasher, but it has happened too often to be a fluke. We've also had the problem with our service staff disappearing for what seems like over 1/2 an hour or longer, with none of their colleagues within eye or earshot. I'm hoping my family that loves this place will find a new favorite..because unless things turn around, I've had enough of this place to last a lifetime. We've ordered from them for home delivery twice now and we were pleased both times. We didn't stray from our favorite, the prime rib. The meat is juicy, cooked to a perfect medium rare for me and coated with seasonings. The accompanying au jus and creamy horseradish were satisfying and welcome. The sides are still pretty average except for the mashed red potatoes. Those are heavenly. The salad is ok. The beans are are as good as you can make chili beans and yes I like them. Looking for a stake in Fresno affordable but good...this was not the one. Our appetizer artichoke hearts, well it came with a lot but too oily, not a good way to start the meal. My husbands Rib Eye stake was a huge disappointment, it was so thin and pulled apart not because it was tendered but because it was a poor quality pieced together, all you have to do is look at the picture this was before even Cutting into it. My prime rib was soft and had great flavor that is why I gave this place a 2star. Defiantly do not order a red beer, it was not flavorful although our server Josh did what was right and offered a different drink at no cost. Out dinner totaled $ 74+ Over all we won't be electing this place again. We would rather spend $$$ at a place like Ruth's statehouse but leave satisfied.
