Hook and Ladder is still my number one favorite neighborhood bar. It has that classic dive bar feel, but they've recently repainted and remodeled, giving the place a fresh, updated facelift while keeping its charm. The service is always on point, and the bartenders never disappoint. They're friendly, attentive, and keep the drinks flowing all night. Came in at 7pm on a Friday. The bar was clean, there was plenty of seating, and they have a few TVs playing sports. There's a pool table and a dart board. The bartender was friendly and served us quickly. Got the crow and wolf dark horse. By the time we left around 830, the place was getting busy and there was security at the door. So I go there because I want to play pinball. Kind of nerdy I know. But it's Sunday and I want a bloody Mary and I want to play pinball. I'm alone so that's how it is. I'll let you know how it went. It's 11:30 on Sunday the 16th I think. Ok s this place is amazing if you have Chelsea as the bartender. She made the best Bloody Mary I ever had. Yes I was disappointed because one of the pinball machines were down but the buzz I had after that amazing drink was enough to make it Sunday funday. Terrible experience the security guard said they were closed then let other people in.

Terrible. Tried to enter an hour before they closed but security told us they already did last call. Said our goodbyes in the parking lot and proceeded to watch 4 other couples walk in and get service. Decided to try again and when we walked in security told us to leave. Hung out in the parking lot for another 20 minutes and we were able to hear the bartender do last call. Absolutely horrible security service. read more

It was too early to head home after a bite at 500 Club so we walked across the parking lot to checkout the lounge. Great spot. Two bartenders were friendly and quick to pour. Good selection of draft beer and generous wells. Good music and friendly crowd. We'll be back. read more

update 5/3/25 spoke to the owner Mike Wass through text after Seth the bartender "accidently" charged me $40 for a vodka cranberry. Wass paid me back through venmo. But Seth also had kicked me out a second time. Again for no reason. I don't even talk to anyone when I am there, I just play pinball. I Told the owner that it wasn't the charge that upset me it was the way his employee talked to me and I don't know Seth but if I had an employee like that I'd want to know because he's charging the wrong price for one, probably pocketing the rest or giving his few friends free drinks. Mike Wass said he would speak to his staff and I said thank you I appreciate that. But then, I went in there to get out of the house and look who is there but my good friend Seth. This time I sat there for about five minutes before, "I'll be right with you, I'm on the phone with my boss"! (is it my business who is on the phone?) And then he says I'm not serving you. I'm also going to post this on all my social media, and I contacted the Better Business Bureau. If there was a reason for me to be treated like this then I would accept it and walk away. Now its War! I don't even talk to anyone! SETH THE BAD BAD BARTENDER if he charges you $6.50 for a vodka cran when its supossed to be $5.50 then you better check your bank statement because the owner doesn't care either. read more

I liked it here. Had to get work done on the truck at pep boys and had time to kill. Bartender was friendly and sweet. Alot of men.. i was the only female in the place at the time.. no problem.. sweet men also. Lots of TV with sports and good tunes. Will be back to day trip here soon! read more

I came to hook and ladder with my females while we were waiting for my friend to get us into a club a few streets down. Needless to say our clubbing garb was way too much for this place. This is the kind of bar you throw on a tshirt and some jeans on and get to drinkin'. We all grabbed a few of their well priced drinks and sat down. Boredum quickly set in until my eyes drifted to the side and seen the beautiful machine hosting what is one of my all time favorite games....(drum roll) Street Fighter. So I left my table of ladies to play all on my lonesome which was fine by me. Once it was time to go I really did not want to...I was still playing but a 3 to 1 vote got me out of my seat and into the car. I have been to a few other bars, but this is the one I will ALWAYS return to. I was introduced to The Hook, or H&L, over a year ago on my 21st birthday. it was the tail of a short bar crawl (I was incredibly lightweight back then), and the first thing John, the bar owner told me, was to shape up, and quit pretending to be someone else or something I'm not, in so many words. I still remember that, a year later, because he was the only person not feeding into my bull that night. Ever since then, Hook has felt like a family place to me. John is open with my group of friends, and has taught us many lessons while we drink and listen to the stories of how things used to be. Chris, the other bartender, is the most stand up guy I have met in a bar. He'll help you up, out, to the bathroom, or even save your birthday cake (thanks again!!!). He is also very open to try new things, and if you ask him for some crazy combination, he"ll do his damndest to make it the way you want it. Just don't ever ask for an Astro-Pop. Trust me. Together, the duo and their various bar backs and friends, make this place a worthwhile bar if you aren't looking for the party kind of bar. Don't get me wrong, they get crazy around here, but most nights, I go there to unwind, relax, and get the day off my mind before heading home. read more

Been here a few times with my boyfriend. We usually just stay home and drink on the weekends, but we decided to try a local place. I had friends recommend H&L and I'm so glad we went! It has a bar atmosphere, but everyone does their own things and is incredibly chill. The bartenders are all great. Theyre funny, friendly talented mixologists and I haven't had a drink I didn't absolutely love. Still, my boyfriend and I got a drink that had a bunch of types of spirits, plus blue curaco and sweet and sour and we loved it but don't know it's name! We'll be back soon and we'll ask! read more

Before I begin my hate on this place I'd like to apologize to all the people that enjoy this small gross hole in the wall bar. I've gone here several times with friends and have had okay times and crappy times. The place is to small for my taste and the bath room is very gross at times. The beers and cocktails are up to par but the location and environment kills it for me and makes me want to go somewhere nicer. Make sure you wash your hands every 10 minutes.... who knows what you're going to catch......Oh yeah, they also have a pool table. read more

Friendly, safe, and well maintained. This place draws in a bit of an older crowd but all are welcome. They have a pool table and darts but it's more of a place for polite conversation. Been here a handful of times and enjoyed a tasty bloody my with friends after work, a chill bar that's sort of a dice bar but immediately stopped going back when I almost swallowed A FLY IN MY DRINK and the bar tender BRUSHED IT OFF and chalked it up to the backdoor being open and the flies liking the liquor.
