Stopped by this dive bar to kill time prior to going to an event next door. There were patrons at the bar who seem to be regulars; everybody knows everybody. There is music and a few pool tables on site. The place does smell like weed but smoking is prohibited at least from what I can see. Although we sat away from the bar, the bartender, whom is a very nice young lady, walked over to us to make sure if we were ok and if that we need anything else. Although these places are not my type of thing, I would still say it's a good place to hang - for a short period. read more

Actually really nice! I didn't have high expectations for a dive bar, but they have raised the bar (pun intended). Prices are great and it wasn't crowded. I don't even know where to start when it comes to fruity drinks but I told the red haired bar tender I just wanted something sweet with vodka and she provided. I think her name was Cassie or Cassidy? This place is disgusting. 1st time in, I live pretty close (Herndon/Marks) and stopped for a drink and what sounded like good music. I had one and a half drinks when there was an altercation at the bar. Instead of security handling it, the bartender, a Hispanic female engaged the nonsense and I was the unfortunate recipient of a beer bottle to the face. Not caring that there may be other patrons not involved in her chaos. She even left the bar back to engage the larger altercation outside proves she is trashier than her troublesome patrons and probably deserved whatever she had thrown at her from the start. I cannot recommend this spot if you have ANY class or common sense and will never return. read more

Was gonna blast this place. Yet I thought nah it's the bartender who was an absolute alcoholic and shit show of customer service. Drinking on the job because you don't like "Josh" the manager? I could write a 2 /3 page fckn essay on this experience. It was cool the first couple of drinks then her boss came in and tensions rose. Her following is cool. I disliked how she thought she ran the place after he left. As well as her giving me my tab at $22 because she was drunk and disagreeing with me on why ESPN kept playing highlights. Worse place I've ever been to. Bartenders were drunk when I got there at 10pm. Was FORCED to buy drink to play pool after I already payed for a round of shots for me and my friends. Then the bartender had the audacity to say I was stealing a pool ball. Who does that?! Why would I want a single pool ball. HATE this bar. Never going back. Old bartenders were WAY BETTER. This is a terrible place of business and should be shut down! The clientele is rough, bikers, and neglectful owners/managers make for a hostile environment. Rude and inappropriate staff tend to slack off, and seriously lack in customer service. The interior is falling apart and bathrooms are drug invested pits of disgust. Dive bars are suppose to have a certain level of roughness sure, but cleanliness should be a MUST! Absolutely the worst bar in Fresno. I believe there's two of these nightmares here, let me clarify and say that I haven't been to one of them but if the one on the corner of SHAW and MARKS is any indication of how their business are run than you can do yourself a favor and don't come here. read more

Worst experience in a bar n Fresno. Ordered a vodka redbull. Their redbull spout was not working right. She still served us. Couple minutes later she explained it wasn't working and needed to be replaced, to the "barback." Tried to get her attention for 10-15 minutes. Got the "hold on" finger 3 times. Was even going to try and switch it for a vodka/orange juice. She kept avoiding us. Finally took my wife to the car, (wasted 45 minutes of our night). Came back to get her card. Bartender said she was going to charge us for the vodka and we could pick another drink. I told her we were leaving and just wanted the card so we can leave. She told me she already charged me and preceded to make drinks for 3 parties, before she gave my card back. I was respectful the whole time, got louder when she held onto my card to fix the other drinks. I wish I could laugh and admit that this was a joke. But I can't make this up. If you're looking for the quintessential dive bar, this is it. Music depends on the crowd, since there is a juke box. Drinks are poured strong AF. I was there on a Thursday night, which I found out was Old School R&B night. That's not even really my jam but it was SO much fun, it brought back a lot of feelings listening to that music. Bathrooms are adequate. There is only one stall in the womens, but honestly it's not that busy of a place. At least not on a Thursday. Two pool tables round out the place. Patrons were all nice, and very eclectic. Everyone was just there to have a good time. Pro-tip: don't fall for the $3 Rum shots. It's the lowest of the lowest bottom shelf, and it smelled/tasted/felt like rubbing alcohol. Unless that's your thing. Then drink up! read more

The pool table is the usual coin operated table with cue's that have seen better days. Who you'll find in this dive are the regulars who're all known by a first name basis by the bartenders. You'll always find a spot in this bar for you and your group. The clientele you'll find are those who've strolled in looking to start the night off and those who've drinking at other classier bars looking to end the night it's a great mix of people who to drink. The bartenders are pretty good at getting served the moment you take a seat, there's no consistency as to who'll show up but there's always someone to drink with at Ewell's, it doesn't hide the fact that it's a dive bar. I was visiting family and friends and was invited to this bar. I have to say that for a very small dive bar kind of place, it's about who is there for that night to pretty much set the tone for the type of night you will have and the service you will receive. There was only one bartender for about 50 to 60 people this night. It is already a very tight place and it seem like the bartender would pretty much give up from time to time. Because I was there with friends and most of the time they were getting drinks for me, I didn't really have to deal much with the crowd and with the frustration of having to wait for drinks at the bar. Typical local dive bar that offered a bar full of regular patrons and stares. There were two bartenders on staff that evening, and they were friendly and accomodating. The guys playing pool in the back didn't seem too excited that we were there. On top of that, the door on the women's bathroom stall didn't lock, which ultimately caused some inappropriate commentary and a physical altercation. The bartender was wearing a skimpy dress, completely made eye contact with us and decided to ignore us to take a shot. On the clock. we still waited and she continued to ignore us. i agree with the first review, im in my mid 20's and it would be nice to see people my age but its a Dive bar, the atmosphere is friendly, they do offer a full bar, jukebox and pool tables as well as a ping pong table with paddles. i would say the age range for this place is late 30's to as old as 60, yeah 60 year olds still party it up. read more
