While staying at the Marriott, my husband and I had breakfast twice. Both times, our waiter, Prakash, was awesome. He was attentive and remembered our order the second day. That day I tried lemon blueberry pancakes. The pancakes were large and excellent with lemon syrup. I recommend them. I shared with my husband and still had leftovers. The first night of our stay, I went back for dinner. I sat in the bar area and had an excellent waiter, Darrian. He was friendly and gave me excellent advice. I had the Tea Time cocktail. It was the best cocktail I have ever had! It was green tea with bourbon, coconut, pineapple, and a spiced pair reduction. It was sweet, but not too sweet. Perfection. Darrian agreed I should try the Shrimp and Grits. It did not disappoint. It was delicious! It is offered on the dinner menu and Saturday/Sunday brunch menu. Crispy all the way around and still very juicy. Came with 4 pieces so basically half a bird. The hot honey drizzle was perfect and glad it was served on the side so I could control the portion. Now I swapped out the mashed for the beans so can't really complain. I ordered a red wine and the bartender and staff were friendly and attentive. After a rough night of sleep and a long day in class the last thing I wanted to do was walk to eat. But since I wasn't driving and didn't want to spend on an Uber walk I must. This place came up as a relatively short walk from my hotel. Inside of a Marriott, you don't expect to find such a fabulous dining option. But fabulous it is. Signature Old Fashioned: elijah craig small batch, vanilla demerara, black walnut bitters. Very well balanced. The perfect antidote to a long day and tired feet and brain. Shrimp and Grits: thick-cut bacon, charred corn, white cheddar grits, jalapeno, blistered tomato. The creole flavor was excellent. There was something about the grits were perhaps a bit too gritty? I felt like I was occasionally chewing on overcooked char or husk, or something just on the edge of 'it shouldn't be in my plate.' The one thing that absolutely shouldn't have been in my plate is the shrimp veins. The shrimp felt a bit overcooked - and this was confirmed by the very crispy vein that I pulled out of my mouth after biting into the first shrimp. Thereafter I was careful to cut the shrimp to check for veins. 4 of the 6-7 nice sized shrimp were not deveined. Isn't this cooking 101? Even my 11 year old knows that we always take off the black poopy thread on the back of the shrimp. Blistered tomatoes-- I usually dislike cooked tomatoes but the sweet pop of tomato juice actually worked as a nice foil against the Creole flavors. Charred corn added a nice textural element and another flavor to the overall bite. The crostinis were a nice touch but really this dish didn't need anything to help it along. I might even revisit my loyalty to Hilton the next time I'm in town if I can just walk down from my hotel room and eat here. read more

My lemon pancakes didn't taste much like lemon at all but the biggest disaster was the husband's spicy brisket hash which was neither spring nor hash and still not sure it was brisket. I have a soft spot in my heart for this Conner's Kitchen because we hosted our wedding reception in their beautiful bar area in 2019. My husband and I decided it would be great to revisit once a year on our anniversary, but the pandemic shot that down the last few years. Now they are back in action we made our visit and had a good experience. This place is dimly lit and can be used in a multitude of settings like date night, quick lunch, guys watching the game. Unfortunately during our visit the bar was understaffed so we could not sit there, 3 of the fav cocktails were out of commision, but our server did the best she could to share details about what was available. We came in for our first visit during sports playoffs downtown. The restaurant was very busy and quite loud. We were, however, seated promptly and the service was exemplary. I had fried chicken and with the sides, I ended up sharing 2 pieces of the 4 with my family. I'm a big fan of this place. I've been on multiple occasions and the food is always good and consistent. Yes, it is a hotel restaurant, but you wouldn't be able to tell. It's connected to the Indianapolis Marriott downtown but has its own separate entrance and regularly draws a crowd independent of its hotel guests for both brunch and dinner. On warmer days there are fire pits on the patio with nice seating and good people watching. They are also dog-friendly. National Margarita day featured $2 blood orange margaritas that were awesome! My first experience here was a five star experience. My second experience was more like a two star experience. So I'm just giving them a four star review in hopes that my second experience was just an off day. The first time I went I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. We shared the lump crap hush puppies, bbq wings, skillet cornbread, and hummus platter. Between the three of us, we definitely had our fill. Great experience at Conner's from start to finish! We arrived early (20mins) to our reservation and were able to get seated right away. Micah was our server and he was very friendly and attentive. We started with the corn bread appetizer and as a cornbread lover- BRAVO, it was delicious. I always love when cornbread has actual full corn kernels in it. I had the turkey Cobb salad and it was delicious. I loved that there was deviled eggs on the top. I had not see that on a salad before. This restaurant is inside the Marriott Downtown in Indianapolis. It is a good size for its location. You can enter through the lobby or the street. The staff is friendly. The meal came out pretty quickly. When I checked in, I was offered a free order of cornbread; however, they don't sell that anymore. The waitress spoke w her manager so instead we were able order from a select other options instead. So we were able to order the BLT Deviled Eggs for free. Although they were small, they were delicious! The bacon and tomatoes were diced in tiny pieces with some shredded lettuce that came on top of the deviled eggs. There were only 4 so I probably wouldn't order these if they weren't free as everyone did not get a chance to try one. For my order, I got the Chicken and Waffles with a side of roasted potatoes. The chicken was fried and had pepper jack cheese melted on top. It came with a side of hot honey butter which paired well with the chicken. The chicken needed a little more seasoning so I did have to use the honey butter to help with the lack of seasoning. The waffle was light and fluffy. The roasted potatoes were cooked well. They had a nice outer texture with the not too soft or hard potato center. They give you several so I was not able to finish all of them. I went to two restaurants this weekend that were both suffering from the same problem: Incredible food and atmosphere, but lousy service. We went to Conner's on Mother's Day, 2019. Conner's Kitchen & Bar is situated inside the Indianapolis Marriott hotel near Lucas Oil stadium and Circle Center. I had the breakfast burrito and my wife had the pork hash from the Brunch menu. The food quality was spectacular - I can't say enough good things about it. And, the decor is that of a trendy downtown bar/bistro. So, why only three stars? It's simple: Crappy service. Three examples: 1) No one should ever have to beg for coffee refills. It took about 40 minutes for our food to arrive. I get it that it was Mother's Day and you were busy, but increased crowd levels should have been planned for. 2) I had a Yelp check-in coupon for a free appetizer (the crab hush puppies were out of this world). Our server acknowledged the coupon and even pressed the "Use now" button in my Yelp app for me. But, of course, it was still on the bill. An honest oversight, but annoying nonetheless. The manager removed the charge for me. 3) There was another family that rode the elevator with us from the parking garage. They had a small child with them, and on our way out of the restaurant, we saw the mother in the hotel lobby trying to keep the child occupied. The mom said that they still hadn't received their food. After well over an hour?!?!? Seriously?!? So anyway, this served as yet another example of how mediocre or poor service can tarnish what would have probably been a 5-star review from me. As soon as I walked through the door I wanted to be with someone I love enjoying a nice meal. It feels intimate and the lighting is beautiful. I tried the sticky Brussels sprouts. I'm personally not a fan of Brussels sprouts, so I didn't care for them. That being said, my friend enjoyed them. I was deciding between the burger and the fried chicken. Since I didn't have a big appetite I decided to split the burger with my friend. It was delicious! One of the best burgers I've had in Indy.
