These guys are exactly what you want out of a computer repair place: smart, considerate, calm, and communicate well. I was sent here from Apple.com for my nonstarting computer and they were able to diagnose within a day and replaced the HD the next day. It was working perfectly then and crashed again so I took it back and they found out that the fan was not working and that's why the first HD was fried. It's a bad day when you get a black screen on your iMac but it was a good day when I took the ancient thing to Computerland. It could not be saved but for less than the price I thought I would pay to repair my old computer, I got a new old computer, with all my data saved and uploaded. Gus listened to how I used my computer -- mainly for writing, email, and Internet searches (no games, etc.) and met my needs beautifully. Great customer service all around. Computer repair places know that they have got you in a vulnerable place, with your trusted machine not working. They could take advantage of you. Computerland did not. *Update they extended the warranty, but 90 days. Hopefully it will still working after 90 day. The problem was that my computer wouldn't turn on when I tried to push power. So I called Apple to repair my computer and tech support told me to I need to bring it in to be looked at. There was no appointment was available at the Walnut Creek or Emeryville BART Apple store for a couple days. Tech support said that closet place to drop it up off was at the Computerland in Berkeley. I was nervous about not going to Apple to fix my computer but the reviews on yelp was great. Finally, I decided to drop it off at the Computerland in Berkeley. First they charge $40 to see what is wrong. I was ok with the charge so left my computer with them. After 5 days, someone calls me back to let me know it will $500 fix my computer. I had a heart attack. I guess motherboard crashed. So I decide to yes to fixing my computer. Few days later, my computer is ready so I go pick it up. They guy tells me 90 days warranty on the part and 30 days warranty from Apple. That's not a long warranty. What if something happens after I guess you out $500. THREE DAYS LATER...... my computer is doing the same thing that I did before I spend $500. Barely used it. I called Computerland and they respond to tell me that good news my computer is still under warranty. It has only been THREE DAYS. He finally said that can bring it in to look at and that I would have pay if it is outside of my warranty. I couldn't believe it. I dropped. my computer off. Once again they brought the warranty up. My computer should have been fixed after the first time. After a few day, some call me to pick up the computer. They said that motherboard needed to be repaired again. Wait!!!!!!!! I thought motherboard was supposedly replaced. I asked can you make sure the computer is fixed before I pick it up. Finally, when I went to go pick up my computer. The guy make seem like I did something wrong to the computer that's why motherboard had to be replaced. WHEN IT HAD ONLY THREE DAYS. I don't feel comfortable with the work that was done my computer. Was the motherboard actually replace with a new one? Was the work done correctly? Will I need to bring it back again? Will it stop working after the warranty then I out of luck? I don't know. I hate to feel like this when just spend $500. read more

I was panicked. I teach online and on Sunday night, as I was prepping, my screen suddenly went black with no warning. I turned it on and off and still sat staring at a black unresponsive screen. I had no idea what to do. I was referred to Computerland of Berkeley through Apple Support and, though I was anxious, I was able to schedule an immediate appointment. After they charged me $60 for inspecting my phone, they eventually turned on my phone and my phone was fine. But when I asked them what's wrong with my phone, they couldn't ask it, they just said "I don't know what happened to your phone, but we turned it on". Very unprofessional service, I just wanna know what did you do to my phone, and what might be the potential problem causing the shutdown to my phone. Really disappointed to their service. I had an internal issue with my mac, i took it in on Friday, they checked it in a hour, ordered the parts needed by Monday. The lifespan of the battery of my 2017 Macbook Pro needed to be replaced, due to the heavy use of the Adobe Cloud System programs such as Photoshop or Illustrator. Due to Covid, the Genius Bar at Apple was closed, therefore Apple suggested Computerland of Berkeley. The staff were nice and helpful. The charge of the battery replacement with service was $330. After three days, I got the laptop back and the staff went the extra mile by replacing the keyboard and speakers. That was pretty nice of them. I would recommend the Computerland of Berkeley for any Apple-related computer repairs. read more

I went to Computerland after my computer wouldn't turn on and charge. Never having gone to any electronics repair shop (ever) I'd naturally attempted to fix it my self; I'd done my own research; brought the computer to the engineers at my job (for them to check), AND consulted w/ Apple Tech support. Ultimately, they all said I would have to take it to the repair store where they would open up the computer. Let me start off by saying the ENTIRE staff at ComputerLand were so professional and congenial that I'd brought in my other laptop for them to fix too (keyboard issue). checked on my warranty, followed up with any developments fixed my laptops issues, gave a genuine smile every time I walked in . COVID times are tough, and so giving them a couple stars for trying to help people in these times ... but working with them was a terrible process. Also, Apple deserves a lot of my frustration. They don't have any appointments for repair work on their own system, so I had to wait a week to get an appointment with Computerland. When I signed up for the appointment, Computerland got the serial number of the computer and the problem that I was having: One of my keys stopped working reliably. Unfortunately this is an alarmingly common problem for Mac books in the last 4 years. Instead of using this information to order parts in advance, Computerland waited until I got there and then acted like it was an unknown computer and an unknown problem. They took my (work) computer and said that it would be 7-10 business days to fix it. That massive timeframe was because they needed to order parts and then it was 3-4 hours of work, which they indicated was hard to schedule. They track everything with paper forms, in triplicate like it's the 90's. They called me up a week later with the computer repaired. I picked it up towards the end of the day and when I got home the trackpad was making a large clicking noise. I brought it back and they said it might be another 7-10 business days to get a new part and install. It turns out they just didn't install everything correctly in the first place. Since it is going to take forever, save yourself the trouble and send your laptop into Apple directly for repair. read more

Super impressed! I urgently needed a battery + keyboard replacement on my work laptop (did not want to send it via mail to Apple because I knew it would take forever). I showed up in the middle of the day on a Monday after calling ahead of time and they were able to replace my battery/keyboard/top case within about an hour and a half. The last time an apple care rep sent me to two repair stores that were NOT authorized by Apple. so not only was my computer not repaired, I had to pay and then pay again to get what I wanted done. Now, I have computerland. Parking is difficult in the area, but that's not their fault. The technicians figured out what was wrong right away, provided an estimate for fixing the computer along with what is offered in apple care and voila - within a day the computer was fixed and a new touchboard installed. There were a few glitches but these professionals fixed them quickly and without complaint. Nothing was too much for these pros. Whoever answered the phone today was incredibly unhelpful and rude. I had a hard drive installed last year and it just crashed. I was told I could bring it in to have it looked at. I then asked if they could look up my account so I could find out what size the hard drive was. The guy told me he can't look up my account or tell me anything about the work they had previously done to my computer. He repeated that I should just bring the computer in. He then hung up on me. I wasn't impressed with their customer service the first time I dealt with them and felt they overcharged and also took too long to do the job, but this sealed the deal. They obviously don't value customers which is especially odd for a small business in these times. But that's fine, I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere! read more

Service was great. I called in and explained to them what happened to my computer (spilled liquid on it) and they gave me a clear breakdown of what to expect for price and timeline, which was $160 to take it apart and clean it, and potentially more for replaced parts. If I didn't want to replace the parts, then I could just pay for the labor at $80 and leave it at that. I dropped it off on a Saturday afternoon, they were closed on Sunday, worked on my computer on Monday, called me on Tuesday to let me know I needed new parts totaling $80 more ($240 total), and that it might take until Friday to fix. Luckily, they were able to have it done the next day, Wednesday. So only a few days without my baby and I am ready to start studying for my Friday midterm again, which I made them aware of throughout this process since my laptop had all of my study materials on it. The only reason for 4 stars is because I wish the price was a bit lower. It seems competitive for other places around here but I did find some place that was cheaper, I just decided to go with Computerland since it had the best reviews. But I love that they got my computer up and running again as quickly as possible. read more

Even during Covid they were able to give me a wonderful service. I Brought my laptop in the morning and I paid for the rush service because I needed my laptop to work. 2 hours later they called me back to pick up my laptop so I could use it while the parts to repair my laptop were on the way. The day after they called me back saying that my parts were in the store and they were ready to repair my laptop and give it back to me in a few hours. That is exactly what happened. I brought my laptop in the morning and before lunch i had it back ready to keep working and don't lose job hours. Amazing work, very professionals and very good people.
