I'd give 6 stars if I could. Alex has been building computers for over 40 years. I took my old broken case and a separate GPU over to him with a brand new case for a full parts migration. He got it done in 2 hours, cleaned every component, and wired everything up perfectly with exceptional cable management. I also had some questions about my hardware after the build was done and he didn't hesitate for a second to manually take out the SSD I had been asking about, explain everything to me, answer any questions I had and more, and reinstall the components and give suggestions on future part choices. Alex went above and beyond, and notably he was the most affordable out of all the options. I called Computerland in Berkeley, Central Computers, YY Computers, DJ Computers, and for the same service they were quoting anywhere between $140 to $250, asking anywhere between 24 hours and 1 week. Alex quoted $100 over the phone, and when it was time to pay, he asked for just $80. For the quality of service he has provided, there was no way I could just give him $80. Even $100 was a steal. My new PC is running flawlessly, I'm coming back to him without a doubt for future needs. read more

Alex is amazing! I have a large gaming rig that's been running into issues lately. I called Alex at ATY and he explained some troubleshooting I could do which was really helpful, and I appreciated that he didn't try to get me to first come in or spend money before sharing this knowledge. It showed that he really cares about people getting their computers back up and running. I could tell he's very experienced in repairing PCs like mine, so I told him I wanted to bring mine in for him to clean up and diagnose. He got rid of every spec of dust out of my PC tower, even disassembling things to get to the hard to reach parts. He did a very thorough diagnosis, even testing if my memory is the issue by slotting them in different slots on the motherboard and running a rigorous visualization to push my hardware and identify where it's failing. Now everything is running like new! Alex even took photos along the process to show me the before and after of his work. The one time when all the 5 star reviews were real and reflected my experience. Alex responded to me through Yelp messaging when I had requested a quote to re-paste my GPU (9/9/24). He confirmed the issue that was described in the details I provided and walked me through what steps he would take to resolve the problem I was experiencing. All the other businesses that responded quoted me extremely high prices or had no experience taking apart a GPU. Alex offered to clean my entire system to make sure all of my fans will work efficiently as well and told me the turnaround time will be about 2 hours. Side note - Chinatown parking is a bit rough so you might have to circle around a few times to find a parking spot or park a bit further. There are two entrances to the building and his shop is located further down the hallway and in the middle from either side that you enter from. He has a floor sign at his shop entrance. The next day, I dropped off my PC at Alex's shop around noon and he was able to work on it right away. I also asked if he could re-paste my CPU as well. About 2 hours later, my PC was ready for pickup. Alex showed me pictures of the dried up factory thermal paste which caused my GPU to reach up to 80C+ under load and my fans to ramp up to 100% every few seconds. He had re-pasted both my GPU and CPU as requested and dusted my whole system. He had my PC ready to test on the spot and I was able to test my temps, from 80C+ with fans at 100% to 36C idle and 50-54C under load (everything was still quiet)! Alex's service was top notch at a very reasonable price for everything he worked on. This story starts with my elderly cat somehow mistaking my partner's desktop computer for a litter box. The computer had been sat on its side, which meant that the cat pee got everywhere inside the computer. The smell was Something Else. And, predictably, the computer wouldn't start. We took it to Alex, apologizing profusely for the smell and asking if there was any chance he could assess the damage, and make any repairs that can be done. Alex was appropriately horrified at the situation, but happily took on the project. The next day, he texted my partner that he had done everything he could, including sanitizing all the components and testing different combinations of substituting in different parts, but the motherboard was fried. We picked it up a day later, and the price was exceedingly reasonable, particularly considering the intensity of the smell he had to deal with. My partner asked if Alex could handle the electronics recycling, but Alex encouraged her to take it home, and either see if we could find a new motherboard or sell the rest of the components to recoup some of the cost. It's an older model desktop, so he wasn't optimistic that we'd find a compatible motherboard, but it was still worth trying. We really appreciated that - he could easily have said sure, and kept the parts to use for future projects or sold them himself, and we wouldn't have had any idea. Throughout the process, Alex was kind, knowledgeable, and clearly very passionate about fixing computers. We'll definitely be coming back to him with any future computer needs. read more

A nice man, eager to help! You can tell he's very experienced (his site states since 1989), and deals with the many Chinatown community members & older-age group mainly. When I came in, he was with one of these older gentleman (non-Asian) seeking help. I was able to witness how patient and considerate he is; it shows in how he spoke with his customer and myself and how he tries his best to explain simply and thoroughly (but not elaborately) to facilitate the best chance at easiest understanding. I came to him with a complicated, hardware related problem with my laptop, and he was open and truthful about how it was too much work to repair/replace it using an uncertain part/method that gives it a lower chance of staying fixed for more than the price of the laptop itself. He could have simply went about taking my money on this undertaking and leave me with a shaky, unsure outcome, but he declined to save his customer...! He verbatim told me as much. This is most admirable. The location is smack down in the middle of Chinatown, so the parking is atrocious! Do not count on being able to park in front of the entrance, nor even on the same street/block. It is located in a type of first floor old business plaza; the kind that has a bunch of small office spaces through a couple of hallways -- it's named "Excellent Commercial Center", so that gives an idea. Multiple hair salons or travel agencies. So he has a very small, 1 room office, and as said previously, you can tell how "experienced" he is by the way you can to tell how long he's been residing there. It's small and cluttered, filled with the many projects, parts, and articles/supplies he has going on at the same time and his own personal "lived-in" habits. So, while I wasn't able to have my computer worked on by him -- so I wouldn't be able to evaluate & rate him on that basis -- I still got a very good impression and great interaction with him when I had him check it out. I recently built my second gaming pc but it wasn't working when case cables were plugged in. I was extremely confused as the PSU, and motherboard all worked fine when I shorted it. So I went to see ATY instead of trying to pull all my hairs out trying to figure this out. Just a month after my laptop's extended warranty ran out, my computer gave me the blue crash screen and when it booted up again, I could not connect to any network. I tried to do some basic troubleshooting on my end, but eventually had to admit that I needed an expert's help. As my work depends on my laptop, I needed a quick, yet effective solution. My computer was corrupted because I interrupted Windows 10 update. I called several repair shops and they all said it would take several days to reinstall Windows 10 and I would loose all my files. When I called ATY Computer, the owner, Alex, told me that he could backup my files first then reinstall Windows 10 and he could do the job in four hours. So I arrived at his shop at about 11:00 a.m. Alex was a very nice guy, he explained to me what he would do and how much time would take.
