I can't thank Alex enough for taking the time to help me diagnose my computer issues over the phone. He generously walked me through the troubleshooting process, shared his knowledge, and gave me honest, practical advice without asking for anything in return. What impressed me most was his patience and willingness to explain things in a way that made sense. Instead of jumping to expensive solutions, he helped me narrow down the possible causes and gave me the confidence to make informed decisions about my PC. Beyond his technical expertise, Alex is just a genuinely kind and trustworthy person. It's rare to find someone who's so knowledgeable yet willing to help a complete stranger simply because they care. If you're looking for someone who knows computers, values integrity, and truly wants to help people, I highly recommend Alex. He's the kind of person you can trust, and I wouldn't hesitate to reach out to him again in the future. read more

Wow, what a gem for the local community! We stumbled upon this wonderful store are looking for somebody to help upgrade my son's computer. The owner is super kind, knowledgeable and efficient. Only was able to replace my son's ram same day in less than 10 minutes, but charged less than half of what other stores offered. Laptop is working perfectly. It was great to see him explaining what he was doing to my son at every step and want to look out for a laptop computers. It's obvious he loves helping people and working on computers. Can't recommend this place enough! read more

Took a water damaged laptop in. Alex opened it up, dried it out, cleaned it up and threw in some new thermal paste while he was in there because he noticed it was old. Took him 3 hours. Asked for $60. Please go to this man and give him more than he asks for. Next lowest quote I got was $240. read more

My computer wasn't working properly after a brief power outage in my neighborhood. I messaged Alex, and he immediately replied with some helpful advice. We texted back and forth a few times, and eventually the computer resumed working normally. So I didn't need to actually get any service, but would certainly choose Alex if and when I needed some help. Very responsive! read more

Took a 20-year-old laptop to Alex to have the files and photos transferred to an external hard drive. Alex did a great job working with the aging laptop's issues and initial incompatibility with the external hard drive. Highly recommend him! read more

I'd give 6 stars if I could. Alex has been building computers for over 40 years. I took my old broken case and a separate GPU over to him with a brand new case for a full parts migration. He got it done in 2 hours, cleaned every component, and wired everything up perfectly with exceptional cable management. I also had some questions about my hardware after the build was done and he didn't hesitate for a second to manually take out the SSD I had been asking about, explain everything to me, answer any questions I had and more, and reinstall the components and give suggestions on future part choices. Alex went above and beyond, and notably he was the most affordable out of all the options. I called Computerland in Berkeley, Central Computers, YY Computers, DJ Computers, and for the same service they were quoting anywhere between $140 to $250, asking anywhere between 24 hours and 1 week. Alex quoted $100 over the phone, and when it was time to pay, he asked for just $80. For the quality of service he has provided, there was no way I could just give him $80. Even $100 was a steal. My new PC is running flawlessly, I'm coming back to him without a doubt for future needs. read more

Very knowledgeable, responsive, very reasonable and very nice. It was such a great experience all around. Highly recommend!

Alex communicated well and diagnosis and successfully repaired the computer for a reasonable price. Will definitely use again

Alex is amazing! I have a large gaming rig that's been running into issues lately. I called Alex at ATY and he explained some troubleshooting I could do which was really helpful, and I appreciated that he didn't try to get me to first come in or spend money before sharing this knowledge. It showed that he really cares about people getting their computers back up and running. I could tell he's very experienced in repairing PCs like mine, so I told him I wanted to bring mine in for him to clean up and diagnose. He got rid of every spec of dust out of my PC tower, even disassembling things to get to the hard to reach parts. He did a very thorough diagnosis, even testing if my memory is the issue by slotting them in different slots on the motherboard and running a rigorous visualization to push my hardware and identify where it's failing. Now everything is running like new! Alex even took photos along the process to show me the before and after of his work. Definitely some of the best service I've ever received and I'm very happy to have found Alex and recommend that others with PC issues to check out ATY Computer! read more

The one time when all the 5 star reviews were real and reflected my experience. Alex responded to me through Yelp messaging when I had requested a quote to re-paste my GPU (9/9/24). He confirmed the issue that was described in the details I provided and walked me through what steps he would take to resolve the problem I was experiencing. All the other businesses that responded quoted me extremely high prices or had no experience taking apart a GPU. Alex offered to clean my entire system to make sure all of my fans will work efficiently as well and told me the turnaround time will be about 2 hours. Side note - Chinatown parking is a bit rough so you might have to circle around a few times to find a parking spot or park a bit further. There are two entrances to the building and his shop is located further down the hallway and in the middle from either side that you enter from. He has a floor sign at his shop entrance. The next day, I dropped off my PC at Alex's shop around noon and he was able to work on it right away. I also asked if he could re-paste my CPU as well. About 2 hours later, my PC was ready for pickup. Alex showed me pictures of the dried up factory thermal paste which caused my GPU to reach up to 80C+ under load and my fans to ramp up to 100% every few seconds. He had re-pasted both my GPU and CPU as requested and dusted my whole system. He had my PC ready to test on the spot and I was able to test my temps, from 80C+ with fans at 100% to 36C idle and 50-54C under load (everything was still quiet)! Alex's service was top notch at a very reasonable price for everything he worked on. I highly recommend him if you need support for your desktop, and I would go back to him if anything ever comes up again. Thanks again Alex! read more

Alex is literally THE BEST computer repair person you could possibly hope to find. I'm truly blown away but not only his level of service, but his kindness and general amiability. I feel so grateful that I found him. My 12 year old went on an 'adult' website and caught a horrendous virus that caused his computer to create a really loud siren, almost like a fire alarm. We were both really scared that the computer was done for, forever. But Alex knew exactly what to do. AND, he found a service that allows me to effectively block all such websites from my son's computer, so that this never happens again. If you're having a computer issue, RUN, don't walk, to see Alex. read more

This is a fabulous find for me. The man who owns it has been so helpful and so kind to me fixing my phone as I wait. I can't recommend him more read more

This story starts with my elderly cat somehow mistaking my partner's desktop computer for a litter box. The computer had been sat on its side, which meant that the cat pee got everywhere inside the computer. The smell was Something Else. And, predictably, the computer wouldn't start. We took it to Alex, apologizing profusely for the smell and asking if there was any chance he could assess the damage, and make any repairs that can be done. Alex was appropriately horrified at the situation, but happily took on the project. The next day, he texted my partner that he had done everything he could, including sanitizing all the components and testing different combinations of substituting in different parts, but the motherboard was fried. We picked it up a day later, and the price was exceedingly reasonable, particularly considering the intensity of the smell he had to deal with. My partner asked if Alex could handle the electronics recycling, but Alex encouraged her to take it home, and either see if we could find a new motherboard or sell the rest of the components to recoup some of the cost. It's an older model desktop, so he wasn't optimistic that we'd find a compatible motherboard, but it was still worth trying. We really appreciated that - he could easily have said sure, and kept the parts to use for future projects or sold them himself, and we wouldn't have had any idea. Throughout the process, Alex was kind, knowledgeable, and clearly very passionate about fixing computers. We'll definitely be coming back to him with any future computer needs. read more

Alex was a lifesaver, or at least he saved my computer. I thought I had a grasp on building a new gaming rig but after four hours of tinkering, I had nothing to show. That is when I called ATY computer. Within the hour, he completely disassembled the machine and put it back together with some excellent wire maintenance to boot. The entire cost of his work was $60 which is a steal. Alex was such a professional that we took all our electronics in for him to look at and clean, and he even noticed some bad wiring and a poor fan installation which he fixed with no extra charge. read more

A nice man, eager to help! You can tell he's very experienced (his site states since 1989), and deals with the many Chinatown community members & older-age group mainly. When I came in, he was with one of these older gentleman (non-Asian) seeking help. I was able to witness how patient and considerate he is; it shows in how he spoke with his customer and myself and how he tries his best to explain simply and thoroughly (but not elaborately) to facilitate the best chance at easiest understanding. I came to him with a complicated, hardware related problem with my laptop, and he was open and truthful about how it was too much work to repair/replace it using an uncertain part/method that gives it a lower chance of staying fixed for more than the price of the laptop itself. He could have simply went about taking my money on this undertaking and leave me with a shaky, unsure outcome, but he declined to save his customer...! He verbatim told me as much. This is most admirable. The location is smack down in the middle of Chinatown, so the parking is atrocious! Do not count on being able to park in front of the entrance, nor even on the same street/block. It is located in a type of first floor old business plaza; the kind that has a bunch of small office spaces through a couple of hallways -- it's named "Excellent Commercial Center", so that gives an idea. Multiple hair salons or travel agencies. So he has a very small, 1 room office, and as said previously, you can tell how "experienced" he is by the way you can to tell how long he's been residing there. It's small and cluttered, filled with the many projects, parts, and articles/supplies he has going on at the same time and his own personal "lived-in" habits. So, while I wasn't able to have my computer worked on by him -- so I wouldn't be able to evaluate & rate him on that basis -- I still got a very good impression and great interaction with him when I had him check it out. The only downside is the location. read more

Found Alex on Yelp. I had him diagnose the problem with my desktop about 3 weeks ago, which was giving me trouble starting up. Simply put, this guy is just great! In no time on a Saturday morning, he discovered the problem was with a dying power supply and an already dead fan. I was in and out in 2 hours. My desktop has been operating perfectly since he fixed both items. Not only that, but his prices were also unbelievably reasonable!!! So I had a very short down time of 2 hours, very reasonable price, and great workmanship! Now, he is my go-to guy for all hardware matters. Thanks Alex. Keep up the good work!!! read more

Very helpful. Not only identified my PC problems quickly, but also gave me tons of suggestions on how to improve it!

I recently built my second gaming pc but it wasn't working when case cables were plugged in. I was extremely confused as the PSU, and motherboard all worked fine when I shorted it. So I went to see ATY instead of trying to pull all my hairs out trying to figure this out. Alex was able to do just that while providing great customer service and he even took the time to explain what was wrong and how to fix it. Turns out the case wires needed to be resoldered, he was able to fix my pc under 30 minutes haha. I remember being quoted $80 for a diagnosis at a different shop. Alex quoted me way less than that while helping me both identity and fixing the issue. I wouldn't hesitate to come back here if I were to encounter any technical problems. The place is a bit hard to find but if you give Alex a call he would gladly help you out! Amazing shop and amazing person. read more

Alex is truly the best! I have a small business and was working on a model 2015 computer. The computer crashed and would not turn on. Just a month after my laptop's extended warranty ran out, my computer gave me the blue crash screen and when it booted up again, I could not connect to any network. I tried to do some basic troubleshooting on my end, but eventually had to admit that I needed an expert's help. As my work depends on my laptop, I needed a quick, yet effective solution. I found that at ATY Computer. I called Alex at ATY Computer and he told me some ideas he had, then said I could come by that day. He assessed my laptop and within moments diagnosed it as an OS problem. Within an hour, he had wiped my hard drive and reinstalled Windows and all the drivers. When I returned to pick it up, he had it playing Christmas music to show that it was connected to the internet. He then explained how I can avoid similar crashes, which was above and beyond. And later, when I was having a tough time signing into my Windows account, he took my call even though it was after hours and walked me through the mistake I was making. Thank you Alex for helping me on a stressful issue! I will take future issues to ATY Computer. read more
